So, after a quick but pretty intense back-and-forth with the other mods, we’ve decided to lock this thread down. Basically, there are three reasons for it—A) our rules strictly forbid starting threads about other members (even if you're being all indirect about it), B) the whole thing just feels... well, pretty pointless—unless the goal is just to nitpick someone else's specific way of typing, which isn't really what we're here for, and C) we already have a similar discussion where you can vent or make observations without making it specifically about how everyone else writes.

Live long and prosper.

'Jack Ryan' 'Jack Reacher' 'Alex Cross' – what comes next? 😁 It feels like Hollywood has started playing it safe by simplifying movie titles—just so nobody gets confused about what they’re actually watching. Honestly, this isn't bad news, though it kind of bugs me how they keep doing these reboots with a younger and younger Ryan... but hey, the other movies were solid enough (my overall --really just) and I’m crossing my fingers this one stays in line with its predecessors.

Actually, all the original crew—Ray Romano, Leguziamo, and Leary—are back doing voices for all the installments. As for Višnjić, he was only in the first movie, playing the villain...

Even though everyone loves to hype up Alien or whatever version of it today, the reality is pretty simple—it’s basically a haunted house movie set in space. That’s what Dan O'Bannon, the writer, said, and Ridley Scott backed him up back in the day. They just wanted to swap out the setting to shake things up and move away from the usual tropes. It wasn't a bad move at all, but things get messy when people start attributing qualities to the film that aren't actually there, or when the creators themselves claim they didn't intend certain things. Scott used this "less is more" approach where you barely even see the actual alien—which was mostly a technical necessity since the suit made it hard to hide the actor inside—but he really hit a home run with Blade Runner, which I don't think needs much explaining. Even though it was a bit of a flop initially, it’s become a total cult classic and a massive heavyweight now, turning Scott into a director that Sci-Fi nerds absolutely worship. This eventually led to him spending his accumulated credit on Prometheus, following the path he blazed with Alien, and even teasing some kind of sequel/reimagining of Blade Runner. Whether he can maintain that legendary status in the Sci-Fi world or if he’ll end up burying it is anyone's guess...

Roland Emmerich, when he isn't busy leveling entire cities with various spectacles, actually knows how to shoot a... let's say, interesting science fiction film. Some people in the industry even respect him, and why... well, I'll leave that judgment call to you. He actually made his debut over in Germany with Noah's Ark Principle, which showed a genuine... intention to follow in the footsteps of icons like Kubrick, before he pivoted toward... slightly more fun stuff. Moon 44 was a bit of a trashy flick, but it opened the door for him to direct Stargate, which remains one of the most original Sci-Fi films of the nineties (okay, okay, he definitely borrowed bits and pieces from everywhere, but it still feels unique), and then he went ahead and flattened the world in Independence Day. You can love him or hate him, but the guy knows his genre just as well as Steven Spielberg does, so it's no surprise he's considered part of the elite... even if his later work has slipped a bit in quality. Speaking of quality struggles, look at the horror master John Carpenter. While that might be a bit of an exaggeration for his whole career, the man has spent nearly half his time working in Sci-Fi, starting with that delightfully trashy Dark Star, moving through The Thing, then Starman, followed by Escape from New York, and They Live... basically, if you get the pattern, he handles Sci-Fi tropes just as effectively as he does horror. Interestingly, space doesn't seem to be his primary calling—Dark Star and Ghosts of Mars are really just little excursions—he much prefers putting his characters through hell on Earth, in the future, or in some isolated backwater. It's not even a flaw if you know how to build tension, and he certainly does, even if his visions of the future aren't always the most accurate... though they are entertaining enough. It's a similar story with another newcomer to the American scene, Paul VerhoevenHe managed to sweep both the critics and the audience right up with his... RoboCop... I mean, who could have possibly thought that would turn out to be total trash? (seriously, who?) Anyway, I’ve finally managed to get back on track with some decent pay and some actually decent feedback... Total Recall...Look, I get it—smart enough to be interesting—but Verhoeven really lost some street cred with Hollow Man. It was just this messy, misguided attempt at Sci-Fi that tried way too hard to breathe life into the Invisible Man concept... but he did manage to give everyone a good laugh with... Starship Troopers... honestly, such an underrated gem in the whole genre. People always get hung up on the satire and miss how much of a visual powerhouse it actually is—it’s just pure, high-octane sci-fi fun that doesn't take itself too seriously while still being incredibly sharp...Look, let’s be real—the movie is pretty bad. But honestly? It’s actually fun to watch, which is saying a lot considering how much worse it could have been... especially if we look at his sequels, which were a total mess. If Verhoeven hadn't been at the helm, this thing would've been a disaster. Plus, he somehow managed to wedge himself in right alongside that big-budget, A-list crew... Peter Hyams...So, look, this guy never quite made it onto the big-time A-list, but he definitely became a staple of that whole 80s Sci-Fi landscape. First, you’ve got Outland—which was basically just a classic Western like High Noon, but they moved the whole thing into space. Then he took on the massive task of making a sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, and what we got was 2010. It’s actually not a bad flick, let's be real, it’s just way too underrated simply because its predecessor was... well, an Odyssey... And then he decided to throw Jean-Claude Van Damme into a Sci-Fi setting with... Timecopom...well, just another perfectly solid flick—something that definitely didn't happen for everyone, since, you know, Emmerich really hit his stride with... Universal Soldier... man, talk about a relic of that mid-90s era. It’s one of those movies that just sits there—not quite a masterpiece, but definitely not the disaster people love to claim it is. You've got Jean-Claude Van Damme doing his thing, obviously, and Dolph Lundgren playing the unstoppable force, and honestly? It works better than it has any right to. It’s got this weird, moody atmosphere that feels almost like a precursor to some of the more polished sci-fi action we saw later on. It doesn't try too hard to be deep, but it captures that specific vibe of high-concept military sci-fi perfectly... just enough grit to keep it interesting without going full cyberpunk. Not exactly a genre-defining classic, but I'll take it over the mindless CGI sludge they churn out nowadays any day...He’s always coming out on top financially—the guy is basically a master of those solid B-movies, and he really earned his spot in the industry (especially when you consider some of the other folks who have been in that arena). Real genre aficionados love to talk him up as someone who truly "gets" Sci-Fi... and I’m not just talking about the big-name household names here...

Best Sci-Fi Directors? in Movies ·
I kind of stumbled onto a little thought while reading this thread about Prometheus—specifically regarding Sci-Fi directors. One of the arguments being thrown around is that the movie works simply because Ridley Scott is at the helm. Apparently, he’s got two massive hits under his belt that basically redefined the genre toward realism, and for some people, that's enough justification to call his recent dive back into the deep end a success. Others think he completely blew it... totally missed the mark. Either way, he isn't the only one who's managed to carve out a massive space in a genre that—let's be honest—is wildly underrated. There's a whole roster of filmmakers who built legendary careers by making solid Sci-Fi (or at least some really great individual flicks) by balancing critical acclaim with what the audience actually wants to see. Since we've already spent plenty of time debating which movies are sleepers, which are overrated, and what actually counts as "real" Sci-Fi, I figured it made sense to pivot slightly and look at the guys behind the camera... just to see who actually mastered that specific magic needed to survive in the science fiction genre.

If you were to split them up into groups, you could probably categorize them as "space-bound" vs. "earthbound" Sci-Fi. You've got directors who launch into uncharted territories to build these unrecognizable, unpredictable, and totally fascinating worlds, and then you have those who prefer to stay closer to home. This write-up is going to drift through all of that, so bear with me... hopefully, it gives you some food for thought for when you're voting. We'll kick off hunting season with the guy everyone loves to bring up whenever the conversation turns to high-quality, deep, and layered Sci-Fi, Andrei Tarkovsky. Stalker and Solaris are two films I'm pretty sure almost everyone knows. For some, they're the most profound pieces ever put to film; for others, they're just overhyped relics that can feel a bit slow. Regardless, Tarkovsky navigated a landscape where his American counterparts were basically the ruling class. Looking across the pond, George Lucas basically turned the world upside down with his Star Wars. Fairy tale? Sci-Fi? Nonsense? It doesn't really matter... the point is, the movie breathed new life into a fading genre, mostly from a financial standpoint. Lucas isn't really moving past his saga, even if he's only directing the first part of the original trilogy. But the old man isn't here just because the Force is helping him out; he's here because before Wars, he directed one... let's call it "interesting," somewhat dystopian THX 1138 that shows a much different side of his talent. Just a little reminder that lightsabers aren't his only trick. On the flip side, it seems like...James Cameron Space is basically the ultimate frontier because there’s just so much of it out there... everywhere you look. And honestly, the first thing that really blew everyone's minds was how much life could actually exist in those cult classics... The Terminator... just thinking about it again. It’s one of those films that really holds up, isn't it? Even when you strip away all the modern CGI nonsense we see nowadays, there’s still this raw, gritty tension that hits different... especially compared to some of the more bloated sci-fi stuff coming out lately. It’s got that perfect balance—not too much high-concept philosophy like something from Tarkovsky, but definitely more substance than your average mindless action flick. Just pure, relentless momentum...It’s one of those films that actually managed to carve out its own space in the sun—which is wild when you consider how pathetic the marketing was... But then, it really stepped up to the plate by taking over the Alien franchise from Ridley Scott himself, and honestly? It held its own... AliensimaDecisive, but damn convincing... The Abyss... man, you just can't beat that feeling of being sucked into something deep and unsettling. It’s one of those movies that stays with you, mostly because it doesn't try too hard to be loud about it—it just lets that tension simmer under the surface until you're practically holding your breath right along with the characters... it's pure cinematic atmosphere. It was basically a fresh foray into first contact territory—plus that whole wrap-up involving the Terminator sequel. If they hadn't filmed anything else, honestly, that would have been enough to fuel all the books... But then you've got those infamous... Avatar... He definitely pushed some boundaries—whether you're talking about the visuals or the massive budget—but honestly, that creative spark just isn't hitting the same heights as his early stuff... It’s sitting right there next to those classics, but it just doesn't quite reach them... Steven Spielberg (and honestly, who else?) if we’re talking about who actually turned Sci-Fi into a massive money-maker—which, let’s be real, isn't exactly a crime—it’s gotta be Lucas working alongside... well, Steven Spielberg. I mean, looking back at the trajectory, starting with E.T., moving through Close Encounters of the Third Kind, all the way to A.I., and even those more recent collaborations with Tom Cruise in some pretty mediocre flicks...War of the Worlds... just thinking about how much that story sticks in the gut. Whether you're looking at the original roots or the various ways it's been dragged onto the big screen, there’s just something about that specific brand of cosmic dread that hits different. It’s that feeling of being completely outmatched by something we can't even begin to wrap our heads around... just pure, unadulterated helplessness....and in one really great one (Minority Report... now that's a movie that actually sticks with you. It’s one of those rare gems where the sci-fi elements aren't just window dressing—they're baked right into the soul of the story. You really feel that tension between technological "progress" and the terrifying loss of free will. It makes you wonder how much we're already trading away for a little extra convenience... maybe even more than we realize. Just a solid, thought-provoking piece of filmmaking that holds up way better than most modern blockbusters.Look, you can love him or hate him, but the guy clearly knows his stuff—Sci-Fi is basically in his DNA at this point. He actually understands how to balance critical acclaim with what the audience wants to see, which is honestly a hell of a balancing act... Steven Spielberg even has some ties to the director of this first installment— Kubrick... So, his AI basically took over the reins—and let’s be honest, it didn't exactly pull off a masterpiece... it was kind of a mess, really—but hey, Kubrick still deserves his spot in the pantheon for what he did... 2001: A Space OdysseyIs it the greatest Sci-Fi ever made, or just the most overrated? I’ll leave that up to you guys to decide... but honestly, the raw reality of it basically pushed those old-school 50s and 60s classics—you know, where the spaceships looked like your nephew's plastic frisbees—straight into the rearview mirror and kicked off a whole new era of filmmaking. Back in the day, Kubrick used to say he actually regretted not making more movies... and even though Odyssey isn't personally my absolute favorite, I still think it’s a genuine shame he didn't dive in deeper...

hang tight, there's more where that came from...

So, I was digging through some familiar faces earlier... anyone still remember the police psychologist Alex Cross? The name might not ring a bell for everyone, but maybe you’ll recall if I mention he nailed the role in two absolute killer thrillers played by Morgan Freeman (Kiss The Girls & Along Came & Along Came a Spider) — and he did it well. Since good stuff is hard to forget (and it helps that the guy is basically an icon here in the USA), it feels like the right time for a little reboot... mostly because Freeman was already a few decades older than the actual character back when those were filmed. It’s a chance to freshen things up, especially since there’s plenty of material to work with given there's a series of over 20 novels out there

Behind the scenes, we’ve got action veteran Rob Cohen (think > and xXx) calling the shots, while the cast... well, it's a pretty crowded room. We've got Jean Reno, Edward Burns, John C. McGinley, and Matthew Fox, but the role of Cross himself has gone to Tyler Perry—which, honestly, has already set off some protests from fans who don't think he's the right fit for the part. Still, the guy actually looks the part from the books, so we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes out. This isn't a straight adaptation of one specific book, but more like a mashup of various plot points from a few different novels. The core vibe is Cross investigating a family death and stumbling onto a villain who is basically the ultimate nightmare: a sociopathic, sadistic, manic killer. Whether it ends up being a tired cliché or a solid, gritty thriller like we rarely see these days... who knows. The trailer hasn't officially dropped yet (I'll post it here once it does), but there are a few stills floating around for this upcoming flick.

Still got those memories of Bryan Mills and his... "unique skillset"? 😁 He basically tore through half of Paris just to pull his daughter out from the grip of some nasty kidnappers... seriously, Liam Neeson aged into this absolute badass motherfucker—the kind of guy who makes Vin Diesel look like a kid you’d send to the corner store for matches (and tell to bring back the change)... and obviously, that's enough to trigger a sequel. This time, he’s playing savior for his wife against a bunch of terrorists who are hell-bent on bloody vengeance because he took out their kid in the first movie... and apparently, the leader of this whole messy crew is played by Robert Šerbeđija. We also get the lovely Famke Janssen back as Neeson's wife, plus Maggie Grace as his daughter. The script is once again the handiwork of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen—the duo behind that fun *The Transporter* series—but they've handed the director's chair over to Olivier Megaton, the guy responsible for that arguably less-than-fun third installment of that same franchise.

The gist...

Quote : in The sequel Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the CIA agent with a particular set of badass skills for hunting down and taking out bad guys, only this time around his daughter (Maggie Grace) has to help rescue him when the father of One of The kidnappers swears revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists who to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically destroy the kidnappers one by one. Christian Taylor3 said:Beaver, let's get back to talking about porn on the Movie sub-forum:

NOTE: EXPLICIT CONTENT, UNDER 18S SHOULD NOT CLICK THE FIRST LINK IN THIS POST

(PORNOGRAPHY) The end of the movie contains a real oral sex scene. The character Daisy is on Her knees, performing oral sex on the character Bud. This is an actual oral sex scene, where a real penis is shown in the actress' mouth for a substantial length of time. He finishes in her mouth and she swallows.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330099/parentalguide

So, those are the moderation criteria over on the Movie sub-forum; they would allow that kind of thing to be posted there, even without a warning. It's just total ignorance and a lack of understanding of the subject matter.

Enough for the smart people.

northerncrane4, you're off-topic.

Once again, I'm asking the administration: who do I report to, and how, regarding a moderator's private messages (specifically one containing the most blatant insults toward a user)?

That is a complete fabrication and a total twisting of what I actually wrote.

I never said anyone should let it fly without a warning—what I was pointing out was that the Movie is categorized as a DRAMA rather than xxx ADULT, just for context. Both of your images are straight-up pornographic. With the first one, you didn't even bother with a warning; you just dropped it right into the chat, and as for the second one, the "warning" you provided has about as much relevance as me trying to find a lost sock in a dark room... I acted based on my understanding of the rules at the time, and I wasn't wrong—which has been explained to you several times now. This whole thing is just noise because the moderators were actually doing their jobs.

If you want to talk about xxx Movies, I'm always down, but don't go calling people uninformed or clueless when that wasn't even the point of my post. You started by dropping a wide shot of female anatomy (which you're now claiming is just an innocent picture similar to certain acts) and then followed it up with a link to oral sex, which you're now acting like doesn't even exist.

Enough from the smart guys.

Unless you're going to address those claims that the Movie sub-forum moderators are restricting communication between users—which is a pretty heavy accusation, by the way—this whole argument is pointless because we're just spinning our wheels...

Christian Taylor3 said:I’m on this movie site daily, several times a day, and I see him moderating the least out of anyone. I mention this because he’s currently sitting there trying to lecture people and pulling his usual bullshit. His ban was lifted, so let's just go ahead and give him hell ourselves. Exactly. He won't get away with this.

northerncrane4, as much of an absolute jerk and difficult character as he can be sometimes, is a genuine blessing to this movie site, and if anyone hasn't learned how to deal with his style by now, I honestly think they should probably find some other virtual spaces to satisfy their needs.

Completely unrelated to you, that second part is a literal quote from ZgSash, followed by "go screw yourself in advance." Those days are over; we all know how that ended. With the new administration, that kind of toxicity stopped, everyone adapted to the new direction of Reddit, everyone except northerncrane4. This whole thing where he acts like a tough guy when communicating with users has to stop. Right now. Yeah, even though I'm just your average user here without any authority, I feel I have every right to say it. Despite everything, I'll even give him a compliment, believe it or not—on the General Discussion board: http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=40038604&postcount=9

you're the one, Christian Taylor3, who keeps insisting you're in your own backyard and can do whatever you want, which personally bothers me the most. I've told you publicly before that you act like a busybody for everyone, and frankly, it doesn't suit you at all.

I am in my own backyard just like every other user on Reddit. Since day one, I've been saying that we all work together to maintain this place. Take the internal search tool that never worked—not a single mod thought to urgently ask the admins to implement a custom Google script for better searching. Why? Because existing threads were popping up like mushrooms; every day, several movie topics were being deleted or merged.

http://www.reddit.com/showthread.php?t=676985

It got fixed, even under the old administration (everyone loves to paint ZgSash as the ultimate villain these days, but we should be honest and admit the man had plenty of virtues too). There are dozens of interventions like mine, specifically aimed at improving this place.

I get that it drives people crazy. You try to show someone how to finally use the custom search (it's right in front of them, on every page), and instead of a thank you, you get nothing but lip: "Who do you think you are, lecturing me?"; "Are you a moderator or something?" and all that nonsense.

We can actually prove it right now, since you're already here. Look, as just another regular guy on the movie subreddit, it really gets under my skin when someone spends one month posting as little sunshine, then the next as lucca, then the third as Rilke, and the fourth as Jerry Rogers6... And since you’ve used all those handles to post in the movie section too—which isn't a crime in itself—the part that’s actually annoying is using multiple clones to swarm the exact same threads, specifically the film music topic. You just don't do that. I always try to flag it, and here’s how I did it quite politely: But now you're just getting worked up because it suits you, even though there’s really no excuse for it.

So, there it is—my famous habit of sticking my nose into everything. And honestly, who’s going to stop me? Especially when it usually results (as it always does) in something good. Nobody. Someone might even say thanks, but there's no need; I'm a pretty modest guy. 😁

If I were the moderator over there, I would have wiped that entire chat clean and warned you to stop doing it.
briskhound2 had a different take on it, and I don't think he was all that far off.

There were never any issues in the movie chat before, and this whole thing with the photos at the end definitely wasn't handled well. It doesn't even matter whether it's technically allowed or not; those things just don't belong in the movie chat. I have no problem apologizing, and I sincerely apologize if those photos hurt anyone's feelings, including yours. However, I still maintain that the punishment for it was completely out of line and way too harsh.

By the way, on those two movie chats, we became this huge community of cinephiles, debating great films and defending or cursing out Polanski. We aren't going to let those two photos and some blatant racism ruin our friendship (and for what it's worth, I totally support the mods in their reaction). 🙂

Just to refresh your memory, these were your reactions when the first movie thread was opened on the PDF: Back then, I was some rare, endemic species to you, and today I'm the resident "bad girl"... Play it, Sam... Play 'As Time Goes By'' 😢

P.S. What a load of crap this thread is, I can't believe it. 🙄

I agree, the situation with adult content on Reddit (especially with the double standards) is a total mess. If they actually fix it, we might finally have some decent admins. 👍

@quietdriver3, briskhound2

Gentlemen, we are on US soil now. Please provide links for every single claim or accusation. Thank you. 😁

Wait... what claims are we even talking about?

You said you’d break down how Harper is still doing the exact same thing today—if I just explained why he got hit with those restrictions in the first place. Well, I did my part and laid it all out... now I'm just sitting here waiting to see what you've got to say.

If you're looking for the receipts on how Harper's been getting messed with, you'll just have to hang tight—I need a bit more breathing room to dig through everything... I'll find those blatant claims where people point the finger at you being the one harassing folks on the message boards—and don't think I'm leaking private DMs, because I'm definitely not doing that—but it's pretty obvious from your post above, what you're constantly nitpicking about stuff that isn't even your business... like how you're out here counting everyone's usernames or, like we saw before on the boards, throwing around all those unverified theories about who's actually a clone of whom...

So, one last thing... how exactly are we supposed to restrict communication within a PDF?

Maybe you were thinking of northerncrane4, but since you used the plural, I guess that makes all three of us equally terrible at communicating... If I recall my own track record correctly, the only two times I’ve actually stepped in were regarding that guy's blatant racism—which honestly drives me up the wall—and one thing for Harper, not counting the usual warnings I drop when topics start veering a little too far off the rails...

Christian Taylor3 said:The whole mess is laid out right here: http://www.reddit.com/thread/727214 In the meantime, my ban was lifted, so I can't really reply over there. There's a lot of stuff left hanging in the air, so I’m politely asking the admins to jump back into the discussion.

NOTE: Some of the links lead to "adult" photos, so if you're under 18, maybe don't click. 😁

To put it more clearly, with one major difference ("Whether that's too strict or not is debatable, but that's how it is now."), it isn't like that anymore, as the ban didn't end up sticking. Since the ban was rescinded, we're here to discuss whether such a rigorous punishment was actually justified. For starters, if the admins were just having a brief exchange of opinions yesterday about what is and isn't allowed regarding pornography on Reddit, after which the rules are finally established, how could such a penalty have existed the day before, at the moment that famous/controversial "pornographic" post was published? In other words, "I didn't know yesterday that it would hurt me today".

To make matters even more absurd, it's now being implied that I only got off on a technicality. Am I O. J. Simpson now?

I have a specific question.I mean, why is that just some "unwritten rule," unfortunately? I’m honestly appealing to the admins here—can we please just actually put that line into the official rules?Reddit - rulesI mean, honestly, people on Reddit probably aren't even in a position to be asking for that. The corner for the banned. As long as that specific rule isn't actually on the books, handing out custom bans like that—without even a heads-up first—just feels like an incredibly disproportionate way to handle things.

Moving forward, then. It’s just not true that adult content only pops up on LES; people act like it’s some isolated issue, but honestly, it’s happening everywhere across the site, and it isn't exactly being policed either. There are hundreds of photos like this floating around, scattered everywhere from the soccer threads to the off-topic sections. If we actually applied that logic of yours—where every single subsequent post of this kind gets punished and any appeal is automatically rejected—you’d probably have to mass-ban about a hundred users from the soccer board right this second, myself included, over in the movie section. Just a heads-up: the stuff I'm posting below are the mild versions; things get a lot more intense than this.

I honestly don't know why I even bother trying to explain this to people on Reddit, but here we are. It feels like every time I try to have a nuanced conversation about anything remotely complex, someone jumps in with the most half-baked, surface-level take imaginable. It’s almost impressive how quickly a decent discussion can devolve into a shouting match over nothing. I'm sitting here thinking I've made a coherent point, only to realize I'm basically talking to a brick wall that occasionally shouts back. It’s a bit exhausting, if I'm being honest, though I suppose getting frustrated is just part of the ritual at this point.
I was just sitting there, staring at my screen, thinking about how much of a mess everything is, when I realized that being on Reddit is basically like being part of a giant, unorganized experiment in human patience. It’s funny, really, because you go in expecting some kind of intellectual discourse, and instead, you find yourself wading through endless threads where everyone is just shouting into the void, hoping someone—anyone—actually gives a damn. Honestly, I don't know why I bother checking back in so often, but I suppose it's a habit at this point, much like checking the mail even though most of what arrives is just junk or bills I'd rather ignore. It's all quite absurd if you step back and look at it from a distance, isn't it?
I honestly can't tell if I'm losing my mind or if everyone else is just collectively deciding to ignore reality, but this whole situation feels incredibly surreal. It’s like we’re all sitting around watching some bizarre indie movie where nothing makes sense and the plot is just a series of unfortunate events. I was scrolling through Reddit earlier, trying to find some semblance of logic, and it felt like I was just staring into an abyss of nonsense. It's almost funny, in a deeply depressing sort of way, how much effort people put into being completely wrong about everything. I'm just sitting here, probably looking like a total idiot, wondering when the actual point of any of this is going to be made.
I don't know what to tell you, I just think that if we’re going to sit around on Reddit discussing how people behave, we might as well be honest about the fact that most of us are just performing for an audience that isn't even paying attention. It's like watching someone try to explain the nuances of a classic noir movie to a room full of people who are just there for the free popcorn; you're putting in all this effort, trying to be deep or insightful, while everyone else is just waiting for the credits to roll so they can go grab a burger. Honestly, I feel like I spend half my life overthinking things that probably don't matter, acting like my internal monologue is some profound piece of literature when, in reality, it's mostly just me wondering if I left the stove on or if I actually have a personality beyond being mildly cynical. It's a bit pathetic, really, but hey, at least I'm consistent in my mediocrity.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, because half the time it feels like I’m just shouting into a void filled with people who haven't had their coffee yet. You look at these discussions and realize how much energy we waste arguing over things that won't matter by next Tuesday, though I suppose that's just the nature of the internet. It’s a strange little ecosystem we’ve built for ourselves, isn't it? Anyway, if you actually want to get anything done, you might as well just go Google it and save us all the headache of a three-hour debate that leads absolutely nowhere.

So, who’s actually going to step up and do this? Is it going to be Anderson? Mirrorball? Or maybe Nica? I’m genuinely curious which one of you actually has the guts to pull this off—no warning, no heads-up, just straight to the point—for a model citizen like Yurinova, whom I happen to know from the movie community, regarding this post: I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, because most of the discussions feel like they're circling a drain of pure nonsense. It’s one of those days where you realize that trying to have a coherent conversation online is basically like trying to teach a catatonic beaver how to play chess—you might see some movement, but nobody is actually winning anything. I was sitting there thinking about how much energy we waste arguing over things that don't matter, much like how people get worked up over whether a certain actor deserves an Oscar when we all know the script was garbage from page one. Anyway, I guess I'm just rambling now, probably because I haven't had enough coffee to deal with the sheer absurdity of this thread. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that at the exact moment they get banned, they have zero penalty points—basically a spotless record. In that case, you guys are basically just... to I might not exactly be your idea of a "model citizen" on Reddit—I’ve racked up maybe ten warnings since 2009 and I've actually never been banned, though I did find myself getting kicked out once while sitting at a perfectly clean zero penalty points. Anyway, regarding enrollment... I guess this is how it starts. (on the movie subreddit)

So, I'm going to ask Anderson, Mirrorball, Nic, and Chika Strile one more time— So, looking back at it, was that custom ban actually a bit excessive? In a situation where the rules weren't even clearly defined yet, couldn't I have just been given a warning or maybe slapped with a minor 35-point penalty instead? Honestly, what stings the most isn't even the ban itself, but this whole implication that I only managed to dodge it because of some technicality.

Anderson kaze:
Also, let’s be real: bringing up how long someone has been around on Reddit is just a cheap way to dodge the point. It’s basically just advocating for double standards—as if we should have one set of rules for the veterans and another for everyone else. And honestly? No, we shouldn't.

I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, especially when conversations spiral this quickly. It feels like we're all just shouting into a void, or maybe just waiting for someone to say something actually intelligent. Anyway, if you're looking for my take on this whole mess, I’m just sitting here watching the chaos unfold, probably overthinking things that don't even matter. It’s fine, really. I'm used to it.

Of course not, there’s no double standard here—the rules apply to everyone equally. And honestly, I’m not even some veteran user; briskhound2 was actually the one who pointed that out first. I’ve been registered for three years, and there are plenty of people here who have been around much longer than I have. It wouldn't be fair to them if I went around calling myself an old-timer.

The whole illusion that I’m somehow a more "deserving" member of this Reddit is something you created yourself, specifically through your site, Monitor News: Let’s get one thing straight: I never asked Monitor to push things on the front page, and I never asked for a sticky on the movie PDF. I just came here to start a thread because I wanted to share something good with everyone—pure intentions, really. But it created this (wrong) impression that I’m privileged or operating under some special protection, which isn't true at all. How am I supposed to fight that perception, Zeljko? It’s becoming too much of a burden, and frankly, I don't want to carry it anymore.

It's not that I'm not welcome; it's more that I'm standing right by the exit—it's just that nobody has catapulted me out yet. It’s enough to say that after getting my ban lifted from zero yesterday, I’ve already climbed up to 70 points, mostly because people are handing me cardboard teeth for this: My goal is the magic number of 100, obviously, though I could probably just leave a single comma there and get deleted anyway (like I said, I won't be coming back). I'll let the rest of you decide what's actually going on here.

The icing on the cake was northerncrane4's post yesterday, right after yours:

Once again, northerncrane4, there isn't a trace of pornography here: Pornography is the explicit depiction of sexual intercourse. Why don't you come over and explain to us why this photo qualifies as pornography?

That’s not even an implication. It’s just a straight-up fact...

Christian Taylor3 said:It’s pretty obvious, really—just like when the mods and administration decide to hide behind terms like "adult content." Crystal clear, quietdriver3. Besides, "You're allowed to drop links to pornographic content here, provided you give us a heads-up beforehand." Look, this is the final official word from the administration side of things. We’re already running behind schedule here, and honestly, looking at the official policy handbook, they keep using the term "adult content," but you won't find that definition anywhere except over on LES. Like I’ve said before, the rules just aren't where they ought to be. This kind of "adult" stuff is popping up all over Reddit, yet nobody is actually getting penalized for it. Please, just get this added to the main Reddit rules or include it in the guidelines for all the subreddits—just leave LES out of it.

That’s just not how it works. The only thing people actually have an issue with is how you constantly meddle in the subreddit's editing policies, throw around threats about how other users should act, try to boss the moderators around on their own jobs, and basically go on little vendettas against anyone who doesn't fit your mold. Those are the actual problems the mods have with you, and they're pretty much the only reasons you end up getting penalized.

Right now, I’m feeling exactly like Hannibal Lecter. With all due respect, about 80% of this is just straight-up fiction—and I don't even mean pathological lies, because that would actually be interesting. Trolling. Just one of those things that seems to be everywhere lately, isn't it?Just a classic mess-up that leaves me feeling completely washed up. I’m just sitting here thinking about those imaginary cardboard teeth. I guess he thinks he’s some kind of big shot worth a hundred bucks. We’ll have to take this up on Reddit later, though. Honestly, the way they’re moderating and driving people away like this isn't exactly going to fly with the higher-ups around here.

I’m going to need the admins to take a look at this one:

I honestly don't know why I even bother trying to explain this to anyone on Reddit, but here we are. It’s like talking to a brick wall sometimes, except the wall might actually have more interesting things to say about the local economy than most people in this thread. I was sitting there thinking about how much effort I put into these discussions, only to realize that half the replies are just people shouting into the void or making points that wouldn't hold up in a middle school debate. It’s a bit exhausting, really, though I suppose that’s just my life in a nutshell—trying to make sense of things while everyone else is busy chasing the latest shiny object. Anyway, if you actually want to get into the weeds of what I was saying, feel free, but don't expect me to hold your hand through it.
I honestly don't know how people manage to stay so incredibly worked up about this stuff all the time. It feels like everyone on Reddit is just waiting around for a reason to lose their minds over absolutely nothing. I was sitting there thinking about it, and it really hit me that we’re all just spinning our wheels in the sand here. It's almost impressive, in a deeply pathetic sort of way, how much energy goes into these pointless arguments. Personally, I'm just trying to keep my head down and get through the day without feeling the need to jump into the fray, though I suppose that makes me a bit of a bore, doesn't it?
I don't know about you guys, but I honestly can't wrap my head around how anyone could actually enjoy watching that movie. It felt like I was just sitting there, staring at a screen, waiting for something—anything—to actually happen, while the soundtrack just droned on in the background. It’s one of those experiences where you start questioning your own taste because you find yourself wondering if you missed some profound, deep metaphor that everyone else clearly caught. Honestly, it was pretty much a chore to get through.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, but here we are. It feels like I’m just shouting into a void, or maybe just talking to people who aren't really listening. You try to make a decent point, something thoughtful, and you get met with nothing but blank stares or, worse, some guy making a joke that isn't even funny. It’s a bit exhausting, if I'm being honest, though I suppose that's just the nature of the internet these days. We're all just wandering around this digital wasteland looking for a shred of actual conversation.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes. It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck where everyone thinks they’re the conductor. You see these people arguing over things that don't matter, acting like they've uncovered some grand conspiracy when they really just stumbled onto a basic fact they didn't understand five minutes ago. It’s exhausting, really. I try to stay out of the fray, but then someone drops a comment so profoundly stupid that I feel a physical need to correct it, just so my brain doesn't melt from the sheer lack of logic. Anyway, back to the void.

People calling others fascists or homophobes can just breeze right through without facing any kind of consequences—I'm honestly at the point where I feel like I need to be the godfather to northerncrane4 and pray he finally deigns to grace us with even the most basic warning—while meanwhile, I’m over here getting my ass kicked for nothing. . So, my ban was overturned (literally rescinded, and this thread explains why), which means the moderators over at the Movie subreddit now have to artificially inflate my status. All the arguments and evidence against them are laid out right here.

Oh, and just for the sake of accuracy, you don't have about ten warnings. You have closer to twenty.

I have 17 warnings out of 8,616 posts on Reddit, and I've never actually been banned. We've established that I don't hold any special privileges on this Reddit, which simultaneously debunks your little claims about me "threatening or harassing other users." Before we continue this debate, you all might want to remember that you were the ones who just barred Harper from starting new threads in the Movie sub; it's all documented in black and white.

Talk soon.

There is no ban, northerncrane4—it's been rescinded. All the questions from the original post still stand. Those rules finally need some actual definition.

Regarding that last warning you're citing, it's totally clean. Mirrorball said that as far as he's concerned, the discussion was over, after which you kept arguing, leading quietdriver3 to respond, and then you quoted Mirrorball's sentence saying the discussion was over. Except you're the one who continued after that sentence. You. Not quietdriver3. You.

Like I said, I'm going to contest that warning. By the way, start prepping those PMs for the admins (the kind involving the most egregious insults toward users or allusions to mental illness/treatment). Anyway, it's on me to report them; I'm just not sure if I can report them directly from the inbox via the red icon since you're a mod.

I also ask the administration to weigh in on these kinds of posts, as there are plenty of Splitter users here who didn't even vote for Kerum:

Look, you're literally the only person here complaining about being kicked out. Honestly, though—it’s not just you. A ton of people on Reddit have already voiced their frustration with how much you meddle in everything over at the movies sub... always poking around, stirring the pot, acting like you're the one who decides who does what and how things should go down. It's getting old. If anyone actually feels targeted by our moderation, feel free to drop by here and let us know...

You just got caught in a lie (the kind you seem to be throwing around quite generously here); don't tell me you didn't just Google "not safe for fucking."

And there was also a disclaimer next to that NSFW tag in English, saying "under 18..."

I'll say it again: the ban was overturned because the rules regarding "adult" content on Reddit were undefined or simply non-existent. Constantly bringing up that ban doesn't change anything. It’s zero argument. Everything was laid out in the opening post of this thread.

How is anyone supposed to believe that 80% figure when you're lying constantly? 🤷

We aren't going to talk like that.

As for the post being quoted, I don't see the issue. We can break my sentence down into simple facts. Did you lie when you claimed to have a clean record of cardboard teeth? Yes. Did you repeat that same lie twice (once in the banned section and again in the appeals book)? Yes. So we aren't looking at an acute issue here, but a chronic one.

Stop ignoring this and accusing me of pathological lying, especially when you're the one who moderates the movie you moderate every other year. I don't recall your moderator interventions over there, and I have a photographic memory. You only show up in the "complaints and suggestions" book when things get heated. I pointed out the exact same thing regarding The Dude (for months or years, Smoogja was the only one moderating the PDF for that movie).

A colleague already laid this out in their previous post.

I’ve made my point too. Baseless accusations of fascism fly by without even getting a single cardboard teeth, whereas repeating a quote gets punished solely because it forces moderators to ban people. That's just the reality of it; you can see the links in the post above.

Right now you’re sitting at 20 warnings, and before this latest mess, you had 17. How far is that from the 10 or so warnings you were bragging about in your first post? Are we lying again?

Btw,

This actually supports my argument. If I claim you were being disciplined for stuff like that, and you're clearly covered in warnings, how exactly does that debunk me?

I honestly can't believe you're calling me a liar over a handful of warnings. If every user here, with three years of tenure and over 8k posts, managed to rack up only 20 warnings without anyone ever getting banned, this place—along with KZB—wouldn't even exist.

It absolutely debunks you; if I was supposedly just harassing, bullying, mistreating, and mobbing users—which is a total lie, since I only "snapped" at trolls who were immediately kicked off the subreddit—then that falls entirely on your shoulders as the moderator for the movie you moderate. How could I have gotten away with all that without any sanctions, even during the ZgSash era? Care to explain that? And who exactly is responsible for that?

I haven't forgotten. Just as I haven't forgotten the mobbing you pulled every time you felt the crowd turning against you.

First, explain why you guys decisively banned Harper from opening new threads on the movie subreddit; after that, I'll give you an elaborate breakdown proving he still does all those exact things that got him banned in the first place.

That was taken out of context and is part of an attempt to troll. Actually, in the spirit of the new moderation direction, it handles a potential troll without needing any warnings or deleting posts.

Something anyone can easily verify just by clicking the link.

Nothing was taken out of context; it was a blatant insult to the user northerncrane4 is referring to. That user just happens to be from Miami, just like hundreds of other users. Why wasn't that given a warning if it was trolling?

Moderators are supposed to set the example for everyone else on the platform. Period. That’s the issue with the movie subreddit; northerncrane4, with that absolutely unacceptable way of communicating with users, is a terrible example for others. Yeah, even for me—we're all human, and I've got my own share of sins.

Because he was just cranking out threads without any kind of schedule, logic, or actual point... honestly, I was one of the first people to call him out on it. Harper ended up getting banned, so that whole mess is officially handled. On the flip side, though, all that mobbing you guys were doing—it was happening before, during, and even after everything went down. I know because I was right there warning everyone that enough was enough, and some people actually got tossed for their behavior. Harper isn't doing that stuff anymore either; there was a period where he used to flood the place with his own topics, but even that died down. He hasn't started a thread in ages, and when he finally does... at least it actually makes sense...

From what I can tell, you’re the only one around here constantly whining about northerncrane4. But look, once you started using the plural and claiming this is some widespread issue with the PDF—well, I'm gonna have to ask you to actually explain yourself... like, in what way exactly are the three of us making anyone's communication harder? Also, that call to the rest of the users on Reddit goes for this option too—I'd love to hear people chime in personally and say just how much of a problem we really are...
