Caught that yesterday. Thanks for the update. Honestly, this whole obsession with getting revenge on Gibson is turning into straight-up soap opera nonsense... It’s a shame, too, because the movie actually looks like a blast.

Trailer...
Mel Gibson is back, but look—I’m not just out here making stuff up or recycling everyone else's takes... I actually took the time to sit down and dig into the who, what, where, and why of it all, laying out every single detail...
It might not seem like it at first glance—mostly because you’ve got Mel Gibson carrying the lead role here—but we're really looking at an action thriller drama... How I Spent My Summer Vacation So, looking at this project by director and co-writer Adrian Grunberg... it’s actually an indie-style, relatively low-budget flick, sitting around that $20 million mark. Part of the funding came straight from Gibson's Icon Productions, which means Gibson is also pulling double duty as a producer here. But honestly, acting and producing aren't even his only "roles" on this one—turns out he's also one of the screenwriters. It really looks like in recent years, despite all the drama in his personal life, Gibson has decided to jump back onto the big screen with everything he's got. We actually got a taste of that back in 2010 when we saw him in that thriller drama... Edge of DarknessAnd that was after a full seven-year hiatus... then he went on to film two more projects, including a comedy-drama... The Beaver and a short comedy film too... Brainstorm...A lot of us (myself included) were really banking on Edge of Darkness being this massive, high-octane comeback for Gibson into the action genre—but man, it just kind of fizzled out into a mediocre thriller... though I know some people are gonna jump down my throat about that one. But honestly, looking at everything... How I Spent My Summer Vacation This could really be Gibson's big chance to redeem himself—especially since the whole thing is being pitched as this wild, black comedy action flick. With Gibson leading the charge, we’re also going to see some other pretty legendary tough guys popping up in the cast... Peter StormareSo, we've got Dean Norris and Bob Gunton in the mix... pretty solid cast. The whole thing was shot out in Texas and Mexico, too. You also have to mention that this is actually the director's big debut behind the lens—though he definitely put in his time cutting his teeth as a first assistant director on projects like the ones mentioned before... Edge of Darkness I'm still here... just hanging out... turns out there wasn't much to say about that last one, was there? Anyway... back to the grind. ApocalyptoIt looks like you might have cut off there... what was that you were saying? Or maybe you just hit send too early—happens to the best of us. Anyway, I'm around if you want to pick up where you left off... Man on Fire I'm ready to go. Just send over the text you need me to work on. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the WorldThe Swedish premiere is set for April 13, 2012, followed by the Netherlands on June 14, 2012. As for when the American premiere actually hits... nobody knows just yet, though we do know it’ll be sometime during 2012—stay tuned... I don't even know where to start with this one... just total chaos.
All in all, it sounds like a fun little action-packed ride... just a total blast.

Neither of those two books really blew me away—I mean, Rose Madder was alright, I guess—but after seeing how they completely butchered Bag of Bones, I’m not feeling too optimistic about any of these upcoming adaptations...

Exactly.
There's the whole "vibe" factor—so if someone makes a total mess of their movie selection and actually feels the need to warn someone else that it's garbage, they should just go ahead and do it there...

I mean, look... I’ve been thinking about this for a while now—not that anyone actually asked—but there's just something about how things are trending lately... It feels like we're constantly hitting these walls, you know? Like, you think you've got a handle on the situation, then some random variable shifts and suddenly everything's a mess again. It's kind of exhausting if you really sit with it... anyway, just my two cents. Not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things... briskhound2 says:

I’m just gonna lock this thread for now—letting the old guard weigh in on whether there’s actually any potential here, though honestly... I don't see much besides the usual bickering that barely even touches on the actual movie.

People were already complaining about people making pointless threads just to hear themselves talk—so unless you actually have something worth discussing, like a solid new project or some news about a bankruptcy, maybe just let the thread lie...

Just saw the trailer... turns out we're actually getting something to look at here.
The title pretty much says it all—we're looking at a remake of that cult classic, notorious action flick from the master himself, Sam Peckinpah. I honestly think the original might still be facing some kind of ban over in England, which is wild... anyway, this new version hit the global stage kind of quietly, and I’m not holding my breath for it to become a legend like the first one. At least based on early impressions and its box office run—which was pretty modest, pulling in about five mil during its opening weekend... As for the plot, I'm pretty sure it's just as well-known as the original. You've got this young couple who rolls into some godforsaken backwater—this time somewhere deep in the American heartland—and things go south fast when they clash with the local redneck crowd. It eventually boils down to a massive showdown right in their own home. Judging by the IMDb trailer title, this confrontation is gonna be even more intense than what we saw in the original, especially with how David Sumner is being portrayed... and Dustin Hoffman did such an incredible job with that role originally... Dustin Hoffman In the original version, he wasn't exactly such a pushover... how well this whole thing actually lands remains to be seen. The acting is fine, I guess, but it’s pretty obvious they were just playing to the younger crowd—since the main bad boy is basically everyone's current obsession right now... Alexander Skarsgård...I mean, they’re basically just backing him up at this point... James Marsden (Cyclops) James Marsden (Cyclops) from X-Men... yeah... Kate Bosworth It’s kind of a trivia thing—she and Marsden actually played a couple back in Superman Returns... but as far as the veteran heavy hitters go, we've definitely got some solid talent in this lineup... James WoodsDirector... Rod Lurie I mean, he’s not exactly headed for superstardom or anything—definitely no massive career trajectory there—but honestly? He actually put in some real work on a serious project... The Last Castle... honestly, I don't know how I feel about it. It’s one of those movies that hits a certain kind of nerve, especially if you’re into that gritty, old-school redemption stuff—kind of reminds me of some of the heavier themes Sam Peckinpah used to play with back in the day. You've got Robert Redford leading the charge, and even though it’s a military prison setting, there’s this underlying tension about dignity and standing your ground against an unfair system... which, let's be real, is a theme that hits home more often than people want to admit. It's not exactly high art, but it works in its own way. There's something about seeing a group of guys who have been written off by society finding a sense of purpose—it’s a bit cliché, sure, but it’s effective. It’s got that specific brand of American cinematic tension where you're just waiting for the inevitable collision between the inmates and the brass. Not a masterpiece, but definitely worth a watch if you're in the mood for something a little intense and unapologetically dramatic... maybe grab some popcorn first. I can't even begin to process this... just a single letter? If you're trying to make a point about minimalism or maybe just had a massive typo, I'm not quite catching the vibe... leave a comment or something when you've got more to say... Robert RedfordI mean, if nothing else, they really should've at least gotten the action sequences right...

The Fast and the Furious franchise

cosmiclynx57 said:For me, The Fast and the Furious (2001) is hands down the absolute best movie in the whole F&F franchise. 👍
There’s just this certain something about it that the sequels totally lack, and if I had to sum it up (briefly), it’s the fact that the whole thing is completely dedicated to street racing that looks freaking amazing, a straightforward story that hits all the right notes, and—which is huge for me—actually getting to know the characters.
Okay, that was the short version, so let me dive into the details for a bit. 😉
Now, look, the second and third movies focus on racing too, but man, they just don't nail it quite like this one did; maybe it's not the first film ever made, but for me, the vibe is just unmatched and the races feel way more exciting than anything else in the series.
Sure, the other F&F flicks have some really solid racing scenes, but I'm sticking to talking about the first one since that's the one I'm voting for!
The plot in the original is my favorite because it’s so simple and just "flows" naturally, whereas the sequels sometimes feel like they're trying a bit too hard.
It’s hard to put into words, really, but I just find myself enjoying the first film more than any of them.
And honestly, just getting introduced to the characters carries such a special weight for me, because up until that point, we didn't know them at all and were just stepping into their world for the first time. That whole process of building the bond between the two leads, Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner, is priceless and just beautifully executed.
If I could add just one more thing, that final scene/race is simply perfection. It’s perfect because of the insane driving, sure, but also because of the feeling it pulls you into—you really empathize with Dominic Toretto, who spends the whole movie talking about those ten seconds or less, as he puts it, where he feels truly free... man, I swear, watching that makes me feel just as free, like I'm actually behind the wheel or sitting right there in the car with him.
That’s the magic right there, you know? It’s priceless because it isn't just about speed, cool cars, and racing; it’s about the atmosphere. When everything clicks and fits together perfectly like it does in this first film and that final scene, that's when you get the real deal—an awesome movie.
You wrote a novel here, man, and even though you think the movie is awesome, you didn't once mention that it's ACTUALLY just a type of crime thriller—kind of a cliché one, really—where an undercover cop investigates crimes in a completely different, unconventional environment, getting close to the people he's supposed to be watching, which eventually leads him to push the limits of the law himself. The only film in the entire series that is dedicated to racing as the main driver of the plot is the third one, which feels the least connected to the overall story. "Part One" is basically a textbook example of copying a proven formula (check out Point Break for comparison), featuring a thin plot, bland characterizations, and cardboard cutouts for characters. The others didn't even try to sell any sense of seriousness, which actually makes them better.

Point Break actually translates to "Hell Wave." And "The Big Wave" is just how people translated John Mills' film, Big Wednesday (1978)
Anyway, she’s a solid director—honestly one of the best out there—but The Hurt Locker felt more like propaganda wrapped in some vague, unfinished setting rather than a serious piece of cinema... and all those stories about the movie being a hunt for Osama don't really scream high quality to me.

Degeneration is an animated flick and—as Evil says—it’s got absolutely nothing to do with the movies. Part 6 is just gonna be a continuation of that animated story, which, let's be real, won't have anything to do with the films either...
