Is it actually true that Neil Jordan's The Good Thief is just a remake of Melville's Bob? I haven't seen the Melville film, so I can't say for sure.
The Blues Brothers in Movies ·
A legendary film. It’s a tragedy what happened to John Landis. As for a sequel—don't even bother wasting the breath. One of the biggest letdowns in cinema history.
Directors who totally missed the mark in Movies ·
I reckon we could throw Kevin Smith onto this list too—honestly, he didn't need Jersey Girl to prove himself...
Apparently, I need to track down every single entry in the Jeopardy Horror collection just to claim any sort of cinematic literacy... What’s the actual draw with these movies?
Word is getting out about an remake starring Gerard Butler. At this rate, it looks like every single Carpenter flick is headed for a reboot...

As for me, I practically lived on Steven Seagal movies, and to this day, I can recite the entire script of "siege" from memory...

Yeah, I’m positive you vividly remember that scene where Erika Eleniak jumps out of the cake.😁 (Trust me, I do).
wiredbison82 said:You make a fair point; the dominance of Hollywood is obvious enough, though it isn't exactly a revelation given how much Asian cinema has permeated our culture lately. But claiming the legend of autumn among five must-watch films belongs in a home collection??!!!!????? For whom?? I suppose some bored housewives might find it useful...

Most people grow up on American movies, then slowly branch out into international cinema as they mature. When I was a kid, my "must-watch" list consisted strictly of Stallone and Schwarzenegger—I didn't have the slightest clue who Kieslowski or Visconti were back then..

You've got Spielberg and Jackson tackling Tin Tin, Sam Raimi with Spidey... there are plenty of top-tier directors handling comic book adaptations these days. Even Branagh is giving Thor a Shakespearean spin. As for Singer—I wouldn't go so far as to say he's on the decline, but I'm not exactly jumping for joy either.
Darren Aronofsky is reportedly gearing up to remake RoboCop. Word is he’s ditching the PG-13 constraints—this one's going to be raw.
wiredbison82 said:I’m looking forward to this; it feels like a wild card. It will either be the cinematic achievement of the year or an absolute disaster... though I suspect Herzog might just pull off a pleasant surprise.

I'm with you there. The casting leaves me a bit puzzled, though—to be honest, Cage has been getting on my nerves lately.
Now we have the great Werner Herzog working on a remake of Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant. Starring Nicolas Cage and Val Kilmer. Honestly—pretty out of left field.

We could easily throw Cameron Crowe onto this list—he delivered an absolute masterpiece with *Almost Famous*, only to follow it up with the underwhelming *Vanilla Sky* and *Elizabethtown*.
Heartbreakers (2001) in Movies ·
Yeah, easily one of the better comedies we've seen in recent years.
Movie Buffs & Film Lovers in Movies ·
I checked the latest updates over there myself—still haven't seen any sign of Seven.
Rafelson's The Postman is actually quite solid. Personally, I don't think it falls short of Garnett's. Haven't gotten around to watching Visconti's Obsession yet.
briskhound2 said:Look, Scorsese only agreed to do that remake because the studio he was working for promised to fund some other project of his (can't remember which one...) so it was basically a package deal. It didn't totally ruin him (in my opinion), but he didn't really pour his signature directorial soul into it either—he just clocked in, did the job, and collected the paycheck. J. Lee Thompson directed the original.

Scorsese took on that remake because Universal Pictures would fund Christ's Last Temptation, and in exchange, he had to direct a commercial flick. Otherwise, the movie is fine.
I'm against the announced remakes of Carpenter's The Thing or Hill's Warriors.
Looney Tunes: Back in Action in Movies ·
Back in the day, Looney Tunes were a daily staple. Nowadays, kids don't even know who Zekoslav is... It's pathetic.
Saving Private Ryan in Movies ·
Great movie. I think it was released here under the title Lost Brotherhood or something like that.

Here’s another top-tier director who lost his way—currently on a serious downward spiral: Rob Reiner.

Soderbergh constantly walks that line between indie grit and mainstream appeal. He’s also got that production house, Section Eight, running alongside Clooney—they've backed some seriously sharp projects—producing everything from Nolan’s *Insomnia* and Haynes’ *Far from Heaven* to Gaghan’s *Syria*, Linklater’s *A Scanner Darkly*, *I'm Not There*, and *Welcome to Colinwood*.
