Imitation of Life in Movies ·

I’m not entirely sure why—it just popped into my head—but I was just thinking about this movie. It’s been ages since I last watched it, so I probably don't have much profound insight to offer, but man, it is just such a great film. I know most people tend to turn their noses up at melodramas—they can be so polarizing—but honestly, a melodrama done this well is worth its weight in gold. My favorite part has to be the story of the Black maid and her white daughter... it's just—well, it's heartbreaking, no matter how you look at it.

A truly incredible film.

So, please, tell me what you think about it 😬

Um, I suppose this is all just a joke—though, honestly, the movie in question is pretty much universally regarded as a total disaster waiting to happen 🤣

crimsonmoose3 said:Yeah, I've wondered about that too—I think Spider-Man actually sews his own suit, if I recall correctly. As for Batman, I'm not entirely sure—maybe it's his butler, though I highly doubt it. I believe they mentioned they might clarify that in the next Batman installment.

And regarding Superman? He just puts on some glasses and suddenly he's unrecognizable. It's honestly brilliant. 😂 😂

bigaje, in real life he's a total Superhero geek. Well, most people probably wouldn't even believe I'm a geek in real life myself. 😬

Yeah, they addressed that in the new Batman film, but still—they haven't really explained things for the other superheroes, I guess.

Ah, I suppose you just don't understand what real love actually is 🙂

If you happen to know a horror flick where the main characters actually manage to start their car immediately, please let me know right away. 🙏 🙏

Yeah, I'm actually watching Silent Hill right now, and—well—it's this massive, heavy-duty vehicle that just won't turn over.😂

I can't remember if I mentioned this earlier in this thread, but—I find it absolutely hilarious how in superhero movies, nobody seems to know who they are, yet they have these custom-tailored suits, specialized cars, and all that stuff.😂

Does Batman just sew his own little outfits and run his own garage or something?😕

He seemed almost desperate in that Guy Ritchie revolver movie, though. The whole thing was just... I don't know, pretty pathetic and disappointing overall...

Then you should definitely check out In the Name of the King 🤣

Juliette Lewis—goodness, what has happened to her? In *Cold Creek Manor*, she honestly looks just like Elizabeth Taylor—it's quite startling, I guess. 🙂

Well, I suppose the concept matters more than the actual plot—if that makes any sense.
And that is why Mickey Rourke has such an incredible presence 🙏

I guess Brody is just... well, let's just say he isn't much to look at 🤮
Oh, yes—both Charles Dance and Jeffrey Jones 😲

Female Directors in Movies ·
Alexander Moore73 said:She isn't exactly top-tier, but we shouldn't just gloss over her—Mimi Leder directed quite a bit of TV (like FBI) and Peacekeeper, which was one of those rare big-budget films actually helmed by a woman.

I suppose I’d argue she’s only being brought up in this thread simply because she's a woman—nothing more than that, I guess.😉

well, okay then 😬

driftingmason7 said:I'd love to see the original The Hills Have Eyes just to see how it actually was—even though a lot of people claim they're pretty much the same.

it really is quite similar—I guess the main difference is that the original focuses a bit more on animalistic human nature, rather than being such a critique of the government 😉 and there aren't any puppets 🤣

but in principle, it's very much alike.

rowdybadger41—I guess I should ask—are you male or female? 🤔

Honestly—I don't really care how much he took from him—it's just that the movie itself turned out to be terrible

Film Studies in Schools in Movies ·
quietdriver3 said:Why shouldn't American studies cover film? In my school—back in middle school—our teachers used to show us films for our literature assignments; we even studied documentaries and those old-school script formats—you know, the ones with two columns for visuals and audio. We had all of that...

Where on earth did you go to school? I don't recall ever having that in my curriculum—though I guess I heard from folks in other parts of the country that they actually had a Film Culture class.😕

Suddenly, those little girls with long dark hair—I don't know how to describe it—just turned into incredibly wicked witches 😕
