I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Honestly, I actually had the DVD sitting right there at my place yesterday, and I could have easily swung by a buddy's house to check it out, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. That's how much I'm actually looking forward to seeing what happens after the second one.

Actually, there's no doubt about it 😁 , I haven't seen that movie in ages... I remember the monsters, that doctor who supposedly has a 280 IQ (is that right?), and those alien gadgets—some kind of floating spheres (?)—plus Robby, but for the life of me, I don't remember seeing Nielsen in that one.

CNN NIGHTWISH UPDATE:

The mastermind behind that huge American symphonic power metal outfit Nightwish, Tuomas, just officially confirmed all those rumors floating around about Tarja Turunen leaving the band. He held a press conference basically to try and settle the nerves of the fans, and he released this statement:
- "It breaks our hearts, truly, but our wonderful collaboration has come to an end. We’re parting ways as friends, though, and we wish each other nothing but the absolute best moving forward in our careers."
According to Tuomas, the cracks were starting to show way back during the Oceanborn era—which, let's be honest, is probably the group's absolute peak.
- "Tarja hit her absolute ceiling on that album, and honestly, with every record after that, I felt like I wasn't quite hitting the level of perfection I was looking for."
When asked how the fans would handle this split—especially since the last three albums were massive commercial hits, and people are claiming she was the sole reason for that success—Tuomas shot back:
- "I think we owe it to our listeners to deliver nothing less than perfection. If that means we have to move on without Tarja to reach that goal, then that's what we have to do."

Then, at the end of the briefing, Tuomas totally blindsided the reporters with news about who (or what) is replacing Tarja.
- "About 10 days ago, we actually signed a deal with Nokia to acquire a brand new supercomputer powered by a specialized integrated sound processor called Larisa 5580."
The band members have been calling Larisa their new secret weapon, claiming she can produce tones spanning six octaves more and two octaves lower than anything Tarja could ever do.
- "This opens up so many more doors for us when we're composing. We're ready to push the boundaries of metal music and finally reach our full potential!"
When someone pointed out that a computer can't exactly replace a living, breathing human being, Tuomas replied:
- "We know there are limitations, so we decided to turn those weaknesses into strengths. While we were touring in Japan, we saw how massive virtual singers like Akiko have become over there. So, Larisa is going to have her own virtual persona made of 8 million polygons to make her look as lifelike as possible. She'll look perfect. At our shows, we'll have this massive video wall where Larisa will interact with the crowd, flirt a little, and of course, sing. Fans don't need to worry!" - Tuomas concluded.

Per the contract, the band is set to release an album under the name Nokiawish, which is currently titled Connecting metal.

I mean, I guess every club just plays as many matches as they feel like putting in their preseason schedule, right? It's all about what works for them.

And that whole thing about the "World Cup"... honestly, it’s probably just because of how Americans see things. Good call on putting that in quotes, though.

I mean, honestly, it might be worth checking out. Just some good, easygoing soccer and six goals on the board? Sounds pretty solid to me.

See, it’s funny how you can always find someone online who will just flip your argument back at you—it happens all the time, at least to me.
Personally, I don't doubt for a second that Vai is an innovator. It's the same with Petrucci; you could call him a "jack-of-all-trades" because he pulls from so many different styles, but maybe he hasn't fully mastered any single one of them? That's why I actually dig him... sometimes his tones sound a bit messy to me, rather than "mathematical." Now, people can tell me I'm wrong, but that's just how I hear it. That's my perception. Besides, we're talking about world-class improvisers here, so they're all flexible—some just more than others.

Honestly, it feels pointless to take these hardline stances on things that are purely subjective. To be real, I don't even have the energy to argue about this stuff anymore... it gets exhausting. This guy is better than that guy, this player is faster than that player... blah blah blah.
