Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
dustyowl29 said:I don't see why you'd need an ophthalmologist unless you have a heavy prescription or some actual disease. Just hit up an optical shop, get checked out, buy your contacts, and call it a day... that's how it worked for my dear, and I think she was only at a -2.

Absolutely not!!! 😱
If I had followed that logic, I’d be staring at a -5.5 prescription by now. Most of the eye specialists working in retail optical shops are pretty mediocre 😢 (...apologies to the exceptions). I once showed up with symptoms of an internuclear lesion, and the "expert" there told me to just stay home for ten days because he couldn't see any issue with my eyes! 😠 Let me be clear: I walked in there experiencing double vision (diplopia) and a killer headache. I ended up at Mount Sinai ER, where the specialist ophthalmologist spotted the internuclear lesion with one glance and rushed me straight to neurology. I'm not trying to scare you—it doesn't mean you're definitely sick—but I wanted to point out that you have every right to demand the best care for yourself. Unfortunately, those retail eye techs usually don't care about anything other than slapping a prescription on you and moving to the next customer. And don't even get me started on contact lenses... they treat you like you're at a fast-food drive-thru: "Tell us what you need, sit down... here's your lens, here's your power, now get out." Seriously, go see a real doctor. 🧐 Your eyes are your eyes, after all... 👋
Anthony Kelly3 said:....I’d just say this whole country is straight up going down the drain when this kind of nonsense can be posted without anyone giving a damn. It basically means Smith was getting paid handsomely for his little gig—getting a nice bonus at the end of the month, I guess. How can you even claim anything about his salary when you haven't seen his pay stub? Or talk about corruption percentages based on pure guesswork? On a forum, fine, whatever, but unfortunately, this is how actual professional journalists write. Even that idiot Secretary of Health is just talking out of his ass without actually looking into the specifics of the case. (The stuff above was meant for everyone, I don't even remember who wrote what anymore)
But honestly, the best part is seeing people suddenly coming forward now to report Smith for stuff dating back to 1998. You handed over the cash, someone got surgery ahead of schedule, someone else lost out because of it, and then eight years later you suddenly decide to file a report? And the government protects you? No criminal charges for bribing? Fantastic.
Cheers.

I agree with most of what was said here... (And that primitive little outburst from the person who started this thread thinking they "discovered" something brand new can go back to crawling in their own tiny, ignorant corner...)... rest my case.

God, you are just so incredibly basic... and wow, thanks for the groundbreaking insight, Captain Obvious.
I’m telling you again... Not everyone is out there cutting corners. For me, "generally speaking," we aren't looking at more than 20% corruption across the board... (who knows!). It’s like pouring 20% wine into a glass, filling the rest with water, and then claiming you're drinking straight wine!
PS. Look, I’m not a doctor and I don't have any medical background (even though my spouse is a physician, just not here in the States), but I really can't stand these kinds of half-baked posts.
Look, I've dealt with my fair share of doctors and hospitals lately... let me tell you something though. At Mayo Clinic, I’ve had both the good and the absolute worst. Over at the ophthalmology department, everyone was actually incredibly polite—well, except for the nurse at the intake desk who acted like her only job during shift hours was sipping coffee in peace—but they did get me in fast. But then? The ER neurology ward... I don't even have the words. Back then, I didn't even know I had MS yet, and the neurologist there basically told me nothing was wrong and sent me on my way. My mom literally had to lead me out by the hand because I couldn't see a damn thing and could barely stay on my feet.
I was admitted in Cleveland, and honestly, that experience proved to me that not every single doctor is crooked. Seriously, stop generalizing everything and throwing everyone into the same bucket.
Red Eyes in Health ·
"Visine" and "Refresh Contact's" are fine if you just need some drops for contact lens wearers—I use them myself—but they don't actually do anything for inflammation. They basically just moisturize and rinse things out. If you want something that actually fights inflammation and cuts down on that stinging, itchy irritation in the corners of your eyes, go with "Proculin." 🙂

Hehehheheh....Richard Thompson33...that Sherfeziev joke of yours is gold...LOL

Megan Morgan said:I've had this redness in the corner of my eye near my nose for three months now. It just sits there. Sometimes it stings, too. I can't wait a whole month to see an ophthalmologist—I need an online doctor or some kind of drops or something right now.

If you're dealing with irritation and stinging (especially in the corners like you mentioned), "PROCULIN" eye drops might give you some immediate relief. Honestly, just head to a local CVS or Walgreens and ask the pharmacist; they can point you in the right direction. But look, don't skip out on seeing a solid eye specialist. That stinging and redness could be anything, and you really shouldn't mess around when it comes to your eyes. Proculin shouldn't hurt you, and it should help take the edge off the burning and redness.
They aren't even expensive... just a few bucks...🙂

Thomas Hill2 said:stormylynx14, give me a break. That’s a hospital we're talking about, and I highly doubt any single doctor is pulling a 20-hour shift in the OR. I mean, sure, maybe if it's one marathon surgery—but even then, it’s physically impossible for one person to go at it for 20 hours straight. You’d always have two or three doctors rotating in. The reality here? The kid was operated on by an intern. We're talking about someone who probably shouldn't be trusted to hand out flu meds, let alone perform surgery on a human being!
I’m not saying it’s the intern's fault—look, they're just doing what they're told. But the person who handed surgical tools to someone that inexperienced? That’s where the real failure lies. They basically handed them a wrecking ball and watched them smash everything. To me, that isn't just unprofessional; it's straight-up immoral. You don't ruin a young person's life like that.

Thomas Hill2... if you actually took a second to read what stormylynx14 wrote, you’d see he never said doctors are performing 20-hour surgeries. He said they’re getting absolutely slaughtered on their shifts, which is a whole different beast. The real culprits? It's the people keeping us MDs on the unemployment line, blocking our access to fellowships, and then expecting the ones actually working to pull insane, multi-day shifts. We're juggling ER admissions, endless paperwork, and constant emergencies, all while being expected to stay "fit" and healthy. Give me a break. Honestly, it’s a mess that's being paid for by guys like this poor kid—and by us doctors, too.
stormylynx14 said:The data doesn't tell us the "why" behind this. It’s totally plausible that the doctor had been on duty for 20 hours straight, pulling every kind of procedure imaginable, and just lost focus. Look, if you're sitting in a cockpit of a commercial airliner, there are strict regulations regarding physical and mental readiness, shift limits, and all that. In medicine? There's basically nothing. So yeah, don't act surprised when mistakes happen more often than they should.

I'm with you 100%! I know some brilliant young doctors over in Cleveland—I actually have a friend who’s a surgeon—and reading about this was absolutely horrifying. But honestly, I'm in total agreement with stormylynx14.
High cholesterol levels - any advice? in Health ·
Laura Chase8 said:high blood lipid levels....I was hoping you guys could tell me everything you know about this... my "brilliant" doctor didn't offer up anything useful at all... she just kept dodging my questions... six months ago my cholesterol was 6.0 and now it’s hit 6.5... I'm just looking for more info on how dangerous this actually is... what to eat versus what to skip...

Thanks in advance!

I'm with everyone else here on everything mentioned in the previous posts....And honestly? Stress is one of those massive factors that can absolutely tank your numbers and send your lipids through the roof. Usually, when that happens, your triglycerides spike right along with them..... Try to decompress as much as possible and stay away from the chaos—even if that means telling certain people to get lost and go back to their hometowns!😬 For me, believe me, cutting out the stress significantly lowered my cholesterol.🤣 I didn't even realize how much "swallowing" and bottling up frustrations 😠 (while wearing that fake polite mask) wreaks havoc on your physical health. Your body eventually just spits it all back at you..... Live your life! 🙂

chicago said:Hey everyone, I could really use some help figuring out what to eat. My doctor told me I need to stick to foods that won't trigger heartburn/acid reflux. Basically, tomatoes, ketchup, and greasy stuff are off the table. I'm totally lost on what to actually cook for myself. If anyone here has dealt with this and managed to get better, please hit me up with some advice. Thank you.

thank you, [Name]....I read your post and just wanted to reach out and share my own experience, purely to be helpful. Even if our situations aren't exactly the same 🤔 (since I don't know your specific diagnosis), I went to a private specialist about a year and a half ago because my esophagus and stomach were constantly burning. Turns out, I have a super sensitive stomach—my stomach lining is just too thin to protect itself properly. Back then, they banned ketchup, tomatoes, peppers, and even fresh cucumbers from my diet (though pickles were okay). Greasy food was a no-go, and I can't touch dairy at all, unless it's fresh goat milk or cheese. So yeah, those are my "forbidden" foods. Other than that, I can eat pretty much any other veggie, especially if it's steamed. Fruit is fine too, except for apples—I can't even handle an apple pie. My doctor told me that with everything else, I’ll just have to listen to my body. As soon as I feel that burn starting, I stop eating it.🙂 Honestly... when I'm staring at the kitchen counter not knowing what to make (I know the feeling, it's frustrating), veggies are a lifesaver. Zucchini, eggplant, cauliflower, peas, carrots... just lightly sauté them or poach them and serve them over some rice, especially brown rice. Trust me, it's great. Hope this helps a little bit.....👋 Anyway, let's hear it...🙂

I mean, look... it’s definitely not the time for jokes, especially when you're spinning out like that... but hey, at least you're still breathing. It could've been way worse.😱

Paul Cook33 said:No, seriously, I got into a wreck on Monday near Venezuela, 19 miles just outside town where you hit the interstate heading toward Trieste. Some semi truck cut me off right into the third lane.
I was out cold from Monday afternoon until Wednesday around 6.
Figured if I posted here, maybe someone who actually knows their stuff would chime in.

Paul Cook33....first off, I am so sorry if I offended you. I was just joking around, but clearly, there's a time and a place... and this wasn't it. Seriously—forgive me. I'm just a huge jokester, don't hold it against me. Like I said before, I really hope someone with actual expertise can give you some answers. Wishing you a speedy recovery....

Look, I know I’m totally out of my depth here since I don't know the first thing about this stuff, so feel free to ignore me🤔 but man, that sounds bizarre. You weren't in a coma, yet you were out cold for two whole days?!🙂 I honestly can't wrap my head around how someone can sleep that hard for forty-eight hours straight....
I really hope you're doing alright now... I mean, you literally got hit by a semi-truck.😲 ...geez. I just hope you can put this whole nightmare behind you soon, and hopefully some actual expert steps up to give you some real answers....

Too true... stress is the big one here, and I’m pretty sure that's what's driving the whole thing.🙂 But look, with all this stuff getting pushed back, maybe it's actually a good thing that your body is flagging it. It’s basically a nudge to show us exactly where we need to dial back the pressure.🙂 For me, it was a huge wake-up call that I have to put myself and my health first. You’ve gotta learn how to say "enough is enough"🙂 and just tackle the problem head-on with a smile.🙂

I feel for you, Rebecca Grant46😢... but hang in there.🙂 I mean, what else can I even say? You probably already know the deal, especially if you've dealt with this kind of stuff before. Honestly, finding out early is the one silver lining—at least that’s what people tell me, anyway. It's just a total bummer when you can't tell if they're actually being straight with you or if they're just delivering the news in the most brutal way possible...🙂
