Taking out a loan just to pay the phone bill in Close to Politics ·
Verizon could totally afford to drag their feet and wait over a year to roll out an anti-dialer tool—I mean, when you're sitting on a monopoly like that, who's actually going to force your hand?

$17Having to pay for your own lack of tech savvy? Honestly, that feels like way too much punishment. It's like getting hit by a semi-truck just because you didn't see a pebble in the road.

In $1.75.

Man, some people are just stubborn—seriously. 😁 😁 😁

Go bake some cookies! 😛 😘 🙂

I never said I wouldn't pay it—honestly, I'd be pretty devastated because scraping together $40k would be brutal... I'd probably have to take out a loan or something. But hey, at the end of the day, you own your mistakes, right?

Okay, fine, they get paid. But I wouldn't want someone cutting my hand off just because I parked in the wrong spot, or taking my head off because I forgot to pay for a beer at the pub. Seriously, lady, we're talking about $17. You could buy a decent used car for that kind of cash.

And how much of that $17 is actually pure profit for Verizon? It's not like they're going bankrupt if they let this one go, right?

I actually agreed with a right-winger TWICE in one day!!!

Gotta go take care of business or something just to balance things out!

Oh, and one more thing. I kind of get why people would complain about an account like that. But what’s really gross in this case is how he’s filing complaints and grabbing headlines just because he's "Deaf and a pro handball player." Does that mean he deserves special treatment from AT&T compared to some regular guy like Steve, Vince, or dustyscout53?

I thought he made the news because of $17, not because of being Deaf or playing pro handball.

And as for you paying $17 without a second thought—haha, yeah, I totally believe you. 😉

dustyscout53, let's cut to the chase...

If you got hit with a bill from $17 for a totally useless month, would you actually fight it—or just pay up and move on?

Jose Miller3 said:Of course they make money—but hey, they also make money when I call my aunt in Des Moines 😁. What’s that supposed to mean, we just shouldn't use phones because AT&T is profiting from them? Or skip the lights because Exelon makes a buck...

And as for those anti-dialer programs—honestly, they're garbage. They don't protect you from anything. Just like most crap in life, the only real way to dodge dialers is to stay in your own lane...

Yeah, right, like you're protecting anyone.

And that whole "not using the phone" thing... you're being a little slow here.

frozencobra37 said:Look, even if I can't stand AT&T, this whole thing isn't really about them. The only way they could actually stop those dialers would be to just block all international calls entirely—which, let's be real, makes zero sense.

See how AT&T keeps you so well informed? 😁 😁

You don't even need an anti-dialer—it's enough to just request a specific international exit code, kind of like how companies use a zero for outbound calls.

Jose Miller3 said:Tipkovac, honestly—for 99% of those dialer scams, the user is the one at fault here. AT&T isn't to blame for this at all. Those calls were placed (to the Cayman Islands and wherever else) because someone likely downloaded a dialer while browsing shady adult sites. He’s the one who installed it, not AT&T. It came from his computer, so he's the one responsible for the bill.

It’s pretty obvious to me that people naturally try to shift the blame onto others when they mess up—especially when there's some big old monopoly involved. I feel bad for the guy, really, but he should just pay the bill like everyone else did. And by the way, most people didn't end up in the news because they aren't famous or making a huge scene about it.
Sorry... maybe next time he'll watch what he clicks on while downloading stuff!

😁 😁 😁

Sure, it took AT&T a whole year to roll out an anti-dialer tool, and yeah, they were late to warn people about them. But does AT&T profit from these dialers? Not even close.

"He should pay since everyone else did."

Wow, what a top-tier argument.

Jado thinks he's some kind of fine artist just because he can paint a woman in a wet t-shirt—really? 😁 😁 😁 😁

Eh, whatever—it’s all for the customers, right? 👍

Personally, I'm just hoping they eventually realize they should swap those seats out for recliners. Not just at the AMC, but everywhere.

The Little Prince?

I mean, why do you think he's called "little" anyway? And why all that talk with the roses?
He passed away? Man, I didn't even know he was still around.

thanks 😁😁

Seriously though, this is my chance to rethink my take on the mic. 😁 😁

I don't actually think it's bad anymore—I mean, the budget was only $4 million, right? I'll give it another look and see if I can find anything worthwhile.

Can't help but compare those quiet, introverted vibes to Carver's writing—especially stuff like *What We Talk About When We Talk About Love*. If he can pull off an atmosphere ten times heavier than some old folks out at a bingo hall (maybe even more than *Please Shut Up, Please*), then *Lost in Translation* really needs to be something much better to justify all this hype.
casualjackal12 said:Plus they just slap letters all over the screen!

I mean, you aren't there to read, right? You're trying to watch the movie, and they're busy cluttering up the frame with text...

Look, alright—if I owned the license and didn't have my paperwork handy, I'd probably be scribbling over the footage too. You just write whatever's within reach, you know? Like, I'm watching A Few Good Men and suddenly Jack Nicholson goes, "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" while the screen is covered in: 20 oz of Paris baguette, half a liter of yogurt, a pound of tomatoes.
