Well, I suppose I’ll have to step in just to keep things orderly...
Freddy vs. Jason in Movies ·
This movie is just a total disaster. I’ve sat through my fair share of garbage over the years, but there is nothing I despise more than a cheap A-production like "Freddy vs. Jason"!!! Thankfully, it doesn't drag on forever...

It’s just because it sounds cool, honestly. It sets up this perfect, high-energy soundtrack that feels straight out of some super-intense techno version of Mortal Kombat: The Movie... Plus, you can't deny that Lambert fits right into that gritty, post-apocalyptic vibe perfectly.

Or the other way around?

Now, Sam Neill might not be a massive superstar, but at least he's a legitimate actor. I don't think Christopher L can say the same thing.😁

The Undertaker said:What are you guys talking about? Christopher Lambert hasn't even acted in a single movie!
.....well, he did show up in a few, actually.

🎉 🎉 🎉

Yeah, yeah... Just kidding about The Lambert😠
His refinement isn't exactly obvious to everyone... To some, it might look like a chronic lack of talent, but true connoisseurs know better. Future generations will surely come to appreciate his... ahem, "acting"...

Lambert—the absolute benchmark for mediocre performances 😁 😁 😁

The guy is absolutely terrible!!! His "good" movies are actually nightmares...
Someone brought up "Subway"; let me tell you, that movie is an absolute disaster. And nobody seems to be talking about the historical epic "Druid"🙂

Ps I watched "Beowulf" twice yesterday, and twice before that!!!! Why? Because I honestly couldn't wrap my head around how anyone could film such total garbage; who on earth is the target audience for this stuff???? Look, I can appreciate trashy flicks and cheap action movies all day, but the crew behind this film actually seemed to think they were making something cool...

Adam Wright56 said:If I could just offer a small counterpoint regarding what was said about George Lucas in relation to the Prequels and ABC.

It’s not really accurate to say the movies were total disasters; it’s more about the weight of expectations (which is exactly what Richard Hernandez13 was pointing out).

Most of us naturally hoped they would feel like the original Star Wars films, but George Lucas had already moved on—he had already told his story.

Personally, I was looking for something more than just high-budget fluff with acting that felt like it came straight from a local community theater troupe... Even Bruce Lee looked out of place in "Attack...", and he didn't even manage that in Hammer's Dracula !!!
I had a feeling Episode I and II wouldn't be masterpieces, but I didn't expect them to be quite this bad... You can't hide behind CGI and all that other nonsense; George Lucas has just become a factory worker producing content by the ton.

silentpilot6 said:Maybe they just don't care and they're only in it for the paycheck? That feels like the closest we'll get to the truth.

BINGO!!! Let's be real: 90% of people aren't making movies out of pure altruism; they're driven by greed (and in the world of high-budget blockbusters, that percentage is basically 100%).
Kudos to the few who actually do it for the love of the craft, but let's face it—those people are incredibly rare...

The whole "I wanted to make a film with a deep message... BLABLA BLABLA" routine is just for suckers. The real version is more like, "I wanted to make a total piece of junk, but since my contract guarantees me a massive payday, I couldn't care less."
Or take George Lucas's approach: "I wanted to make an amateurish flick with catastrophically bad acting (and I actually ordered the good actors to perform poorly) just so I could rake in all that cash from the merchandise later!!!"

PS I forgot to add IMHO

DMX

DMX??? Are you kidding? He’s incredible; he just carries that raw intensity with him... Honestly, the guy probably sounds just as intense while picking up a six-pack at the grocery store.🙂
He’s so unapologetically over-the-top that I actually find it refreshing.👍

I've always had a soft spot for the Beastie Boys trio... Not necessarily because of the individual members, but because of how they work together (in my humble opinion, their chemistry is perfect).

Afrofeet said:I watched it a few years back, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember walking away feeling pretty unimpressed. It felt like one of those cheap action flicks—kind of a budget version of a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. If I recall correctly, he played some Russian villain.

hehe... He was actually playing ZARKOVA!!! Honestly, the movie is a total riot... Between the acting and Malibu, plus that guy from the "Nikita" series (Operations), it’s quite the ride.👍
Best albums of 2003? in Music ·
Ugh... Hmm..... It turns out about 99% of the albums I picked up or spent time listening to back in 2003 weren't actually released in 2003.🙄 So, here are the ones that actually dropped that year:

Spinal Tap - a New darkness upon US Blood Has Been Shed
Blood Has Been Shed - Spirals
Fugazi - Hell
My first love... in Music ·
Hmm... I suppose I could say Guns N' Roses from the late '80s or early '90s, but honestly, I was just a kid back then, mostly just absorbing whatever my surroundings were playing.🙂
If we're talking about a group that I genuinely gravitated toward on my own, without anyone feeding me suggestions, I’d have to go with the Beastie Boys. Once I stumbled upon them somewhere around '92 or '93, I was absolutely hooked; they ended up being my absolute favorite band for a very long time.👍
Anderson Silva is the GOAT in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Anderson Silva is definitely solid, but does he actually hold his own against someone like Bruce Lee?
The guy’s hands are lethal, and those strikes are pure destruction.😁 😁 😁

PS And let's be real, it's not like Anderson Silva is facing any serious competition here in the States...
Alien vs. Predator in Movies ·
I’ve got some reservations about having Paul Anderson—the director behind "Mortal Kombat," "Soldier," and "Resident Evil"—at the helm here.👎
At least he’s acting alongside Lars Henriksen,😁

As someone who lives for the comics (you know, all those Gamma-charged muscles and chaos...), I can’t say I’m truly disappointed. Maybe it’s because I went in expecting an absolute train wreck, and instead, the movie just... wasn't great.
From a technical standpoint—the cinematography and how they translated the comic book panel layouts to the screen—it actually holds up pretty well. Plus, Nick Nolte does a fantastic job playing the part of a total loose cannon.😁

Force said:Where, when, and how on earth did you manage to catch most of them?

I was actually thinking of the more famous ones. I’ve probably seen about 40 blaxploitation films in total, mostly on those random German channels—no idea where they dig them up, but they have everything. Honestly, you’d be surprised at what pops up on CNN during the late-night slots in the summer.🙂

PS There's a reason why certain movies stand out while others fade away (think the Shaft trilogy, Cleopatra, Foxy Brown, or Pharaoh); most of the rest are just bland and uninspired, which is exactly why the genre earned that "exploitation" label in the first place.👎

Andrew Walker7 said:Was that actually the real Superfly from back in the '70s? I remember catching it in a theater once.

That’s the one, definitely... 👍 👍
PS I know this is usually more about movies, but since it was airing on TV, I figured it was worth a mention.

Did anyone catch that on NPR this past Sunday? I think it might be one of those rare Black exploitation movies I haven’t had the chance to see yet... Man, it was incredible; just totally PIMPADELIC!!! Priest is such a cool character, and that fight scene at the end... absolute CLASSIC!
Bad Boys 2: Thoughts? in Movies ·
The movie drags on way too long and feels a bit overdone. There are some clever moments here and there, but the action sequences feel pretty forced. My biggest gripe, though? Chuck Liddell didn't actually break anyone's bones.😢
