What are some movies you absolutely loved? in Movies ·
ljiga said:Mouse, Korean? It should be in the video rental stores by now.

I actually think you're looking for "Warrior," and I'm worried it hasn't hit the local rental shops just yet... It’s a solid movie, though. No doubt about that.
I’d be more than happy to give you some recommendations, but I tend to boycott all that corporate trash (I only go to the theaters to help dismantle the system from within), so I mostly stick to renting those B and C-list action or sci-fi flicks. But if that's your kind of thing, you might want to hunt down "Stormtrooper," "Warrior of Justice," "Apex," "Not Once but Twice," or "The Shepherd." Honestly, I could keep this list going until tomorrow. :-)

This movie is absolute garbage... I can usually enjoy a bad film if it has that certain campy charm, but this is just high-budget trash of the worst variety. I mean, was Sean Connery really that desperate for a paycheck?
Only worth a watch if you have absolutely nothing else going on...

If I had my way, I'd hand the director's chair over to James Cameron; he’s already proven he knows how to handle this kind of stuff... 👍

But they actually gave the job to Paul Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Soldier Paul Anderson), so don't go expecting anything great...

Ethan Perez97 said:But seriously, when it comes to the third installment, I actually think it’s the best one after the original. It manages to capture the story and the overall atmosphere most effectively, and if you ask me, it features the best-designed extraterrestrial in the series. 👍

The third movie is solid, and you could almost view it as a sort of remake of the first one, though that’s exactly why it loses some of its sense of originality. To be honest, the design of the extraterrestrial didn't blow me away; I personally preferred those massive warriors from the first two films—that hybrid dog kind of vibe.

It seems like you haven't actually sat down to watch the third and fourth installments, have you?🙂

Honestly, looking back at the last five or six years—maybe even longer—it feels like we just haven't had any solid, big-budget Sci-Fi. I’d much rather sit through Godzilla vs. Mechanozilla ten times over than watch Sphere
just twice.

When you sit down to watch a movie these days, it can feel like you're just wading through a sea of clichés. But here’s the thing: back in 1986, when Aliens hit theaters, those elements weren't clichés yet—they were revolutionary.

Preach!!! Glad to know I'm not alone in thinking that...

lonescout2 said:And who exactly is claiming that Aliens isn't a great movie?

Come on, guys... let's be reasonable. All Four Alien films have their own merits. The first one basically pioneered the Sci-Fi Horror genre with that suffocating, claustrophobic vibe, while Aliens is essentially the gold standard for sci-fi action. Every single entry features an excellent cast (though maybe Aliens is a tiny bit thinner there), and I wouldn't dare label any of them as bad movies.

I've sat through so much sci-fi garbage over the years that it's actually hard to pick a definitive winner for the worst, but out of everything I've seen lately, "The Eliminators" takes the cake. It was airing on ABC (which, honestly, tells you everything you need to know).
I try to catch almost everything that hits the theaters these days—well, except for the kids' movies—but honestly, I can tell you that about 99% of them are just completely soulless. It gets to the point where when my friends and I walk out of the cinema, there isn’t even a desire to sit around and dissect what we just watched. We usually end up spending more time rehashing the plot of some old Star Trek episode from the Kirk era than actually discussing the movie we just paid to see. It feels like everything is either mass-produced, cookie-cutter garbage or some pretentious "art" trash trying too hard to be deep. It's frustrating, really. I’m struggling to even recall a single standout film from the latter half of the 90s that truly left an impression. I mean, I can think of a few, but nothing that really hits that mark anymore. Does anyone else feel like the spark is just gone?
Charles Bronson - he's still got it! in Movies ·
Timothy Cox2 said:Charles Bronson was a B-movie actor. There's really no debating that. But honestly, that's exactly why I loved him—there was something about that raw imperfection...

You know, looking back on it, you might be onto something there. But you just don't see actors with that kind of B-movie grit anymore. Man... between the whole Death Wish series and Telephone... the guy was a total legend. I have to admit, I felt a real sense of loss when I heard the news.

In Deli, you get this gritty, dark look at urban tenement life, whereas in New York City, the world feels almost childlike—filled with strange figures like circus performers, Siamese twins, or the strongest man alive. And don't even get me started on the creepy character of the scavenger.
😎

Wait, are we talking about Aliens?🙂

Bradley Morgan3 said:Could you be a bit more specific when you mention those "other elements"... thanks?

Well, take the script, for instance. I mean, credit where credit is due regarding the core concept, but it just didn't quite click for me. It felt like all that weirdness was somewhat forced, wouldn't you agree?

Visually speaking, this movie is absolutely stunning. Personally, I’ve always thought Roger Deakins was a genius... his specific style is just irreplaceable. As for the other elements of the film? Well, there was definitely room for improvement.

mirrorball said:...in the US, I don't think a single Alien movie has ever been released on DVD, so you might have better luck looking abroad...

Yupp, it’s a shame, but it's the truth. A few years back, the Fox distributor (I'm not sure who's handling them at the moment) actually announced they were releasing all four films, but so far, we haven't seen any of it happen...
But if you look in Austria, it shouldn't be an issue; you could also always just order one through Amazon or something similar.
Who's the GOAT? in Movies ·
Tyrant said:...meaning they could eat anyone on this list (including your Bruce, Jackie, or whoever else you mentioned) for breakfast.

I have to disagree with that take. Lundgren definitely has an edge over most Asian fighters simply due to his physical build—there’s a massive difference between taking a hit from a 200lb man versus someone weighing 130lbs. That said, Bruce Lee is still held in incredibly high regard within the martial arts community because of Jeet Kune Do, and Jet Li was already a master of Wushu long before he ever stepped onto a movie set.

PS: Being a European champion doesn't carry much weight here; most action stars have been a champion of something at some point in their lives, and with so many different organizations out there, it isn't exactly a gold standard.

Eric Jackson43 said:He mentioned he didn't have room for Dolph Lundgren and Jeff Dacascos (see the post above). You seem to have forgotten that Lundgren actually played the one and only Punisher

THE PUNISHER!!!

"I still talk to God sometimes, I ask him if what I'm doing is right or wrong , I'm still waiting for an answer , and until i get One"

In that movie, Lundgren took out more wannabe ninjas than Martin K تمام Dudikoff and Bradley combined in all the American Ninja films...
