USB drivers needed in IT Support ·
It’s almost a certainty—basically a 100% chance—that you’re going to need to grab those USB 3.0 drivers. Since you're running Windows 7, the OS just won't recognize those USB 3.0 ports without them being installed first. So, your best bet is to head over to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download the specific USB 3.0 drivers there.

It’s a little tough to give you much help without more context... there could be a million different things going on here. To start off—have you switched up your monitor lately? Maybe bumped up the resolution? What kind of settings are you running in the games where this happens? Have you tried dropping the graphics details a bit? And most importantly, could you list out your full PC specs?
Booting macOS from an external hard drive? in IT Support ·
Well, in that case, give this solution a shot. Basically, once you finish installing Windows, don't go ahead and install any drivers or anything else right away. As soon as the installation wraps up, just shut down the PC and unplug the hard drive.
Booting macOS from an external hard drive? in IT Support ·
To be honest, I’ve never actually tried it myself. I have heard stories from people who ran into major headaches after switching up their entire setup—you know, swapping out an AMD processor for an Intel one. Apparently, once they made the jump to an Intel CPU and a new motherboard, they couldn't get Windows to boot at all. They ended up having to do a completely fresh installation because the chipsets and drivers just wouldn't play nice together, leading to a constant Blue Screen of Death every time they tried to start up. So, I'm not entirely sure, but I guess you don't really have anything to lose by giving it a shot? Since you mentioned you don't have an optical drive, a USB stick should work just fine. You can easily put together a bootable drive using a tool like Rufus.

But why not just burn the ISO file onto a blank DVD—or better yet, use a tool like Rufus to make a bootable USB drive? Then you could just install macOS on that other computer. Seems like a much smoother way to go, if you ask me.

Are you thinking about taking a hard drive from another PC running macOS and just plugging it into your own rig to boot it up? Honestly, you’ll most likely run straight into a Blue Screen of Death... Since the hardware components will be different—and they almost certainly are if it's from a different machine—macOS remembers specific chipsets, drivers, and all those little technical details. Most of the time, it isn't nearly that simple to just swap drives and expect things to work perfectly.

When you swap out the processor, there’s no need to go through the hassle of reinstalling Windows—just make sure you flash the BIOS first. You'll want to grab the latest version available, and then you should be all set.

Hey guys, I’ve been thinking—it looks like he might be dealing with a failing hard drive, especially since everything seems to be lagging so much lately. 😁
You've got a solid motherboard there, which means you won't have any trouble upgrading to a more powerful processor down the road.

As for the difference between PCI-E 2.0 and 3.0—honestly, don't sweat it too much; you're fine either way.

Personally, I'm running an NVIDIA GTX 970, and I haven't run into a single issue playing games at 1080p resolution.

Did you happen to uninstall your old NVIDIA drivers first, give the laptop a quick restart, and then go ahead with downloading and installing the latest NVIDIA driver?

She’s probably going to run into issues again because she picked up some adware.

Just download this little utility CLICK HERE—once you've got it running, close out all your open programs and hit scan. After the scan wraps up, just click clean. Your laptop should automatically restart once that's done. When it boots back up, head over to Google Chrome and find the option to reset everything to factory settings. Once you've done that, just install AdBlock Plus and you should be good to go.

I had the same thing happen to me—it just vanished. I’m not entirely sure why, but if you check your Windows update settings, it shows as being reserved, so you really don't have anything to worry about 👍

Just give them a call and ask—if they don't have enough stock ready to go right away, you might just have to hang tight for a day or two.

I mean, is someone really going to just hand that to you on a silver platter? 😬 If you put even a tiny bit of effort into Googling it, you could probably track down whatever version of Windows 7 you’re looking for—complete with a product key—in under 15 minutes.

It’s a pretty solid processor. I mean, what else are you actually going to use a laptop for if not this?

Could you list out your full specs? Also—have you made sure to install all your drivers yet?
OS and RAM usage: what to expect? in IT Support ·
Yeah, I get why you’re feeling a bit thrown off by how they worded that. The description says 8GB, but then the specs list 16GB of RAM—it's definitely confusing when they don't line up. Maybe they meant that 16GB is the maximum capacity? Like, you could potentially upgrade it to that much if you wanted to. Honestly, the easiest way to clear this up would just be to give the shop a quick call and ask them directly—just to be sure before you pull the trigger.
