Besides, what does theory even matter if I—even as a layman—found certain parts ridiculous when the director clearly intended them to be serious? It just means his "montage theory" isn't holding much water. At least, that’s my take on this specific movie.

Watched a movie yesterday at the local theater and, to put it mildly—it was a mess. It’s not even because the pro-India propaganda is so blatant; it’s just objectively bad filmmaking. People can argue about the era or the historical context all they want, but some things are just poorly executed beyond repair. And please, don't give me the "well, it's from the 1930s" excuse. That doesn't fly.
I will say I got a few good laughs out of it. Specifically, those shots of snow-covered boats that pop up for a few seconds repeatedly without any real purpose. Even that villainous caricature didn't leave me indifferent. The ending, though? Pure comedy. First, Alexander Nevsky delivers his famous line about Russia and swords, and then they write the exact same thing on screen again. Hilarious.
(Also, Alexander wearing a helmet and swimming goggles... he wasn't exactly the rugged man you'd expect him to be. Maybe if this had been part of a queer film festival, it would have made sense... but I'm not using that as my metric, just saying.)
The battle on the ice is decent enough—that contrast between the sky, the ice, and the soldiers is simple and effective.
But hey, that's just my humble opinion. At least Stalin liked it... 🙄

Did anyone else get the impression that, despite all the jokes at the expense of people from Canada, he ultimately admitted that Canadians living in Canada stay pretty true to their stereotypes (for better or worse)? Honestly, that part actually helped my view of the film.
In my opinion, the weakest link is the humor—it’s nowhere near George’s usual level. Plus, Bjelogrlićen doesn't quite sell the role of a Canadian. The directing feels a bit amateurish, too...
But hey, it’s only his first one, so who knows...

Regarding the question above, I’d suggest checking out Zappa's Lost episodes. There are a few recordings they did together from either '58, '59, or the early sixties. It's pretty fascinating stuff.

How could I possibly forget David? The man is one of a kind—a total legend. You seriously have to see this photo I stumbled upon online. It’s him, completely naked, lying in some ridiculous pose, surrounded by tiny little puppies. There's even one tucked right between his legs. Truly unforgettable.
I was watching Knight Rider when I was only three years old, and honestly, even back then, I thought it was pretty stupid.

I was recently watching the Falco's video for The Commissioner, and it’s honestly incredible how slimy the guy is. As far as music videos go, that one might actually be the worst ever made. He looks so slick with his hair and those designer shades, but his hand gestures are just plain revolting. It's hard to imagine anyone ever topping that level of cringe.
That’s exactly why it works so well. Highly recommended.
