Man, Iwo Jima was heavy. Absolutely gut-wrenching. A few of those points Jose Miller17 brought up should've been included, but honestly, just keep in mind this movie wasn't made for the European market—it’s for folks over here in the States... and Americans have a pretty different way of looking at themselves and their own wars.
I feel like tons of people know all those country songs, and once they hit that certain level of tipsy, they love hearing them, singing along, maybe even shedding a tear or two. But... back then, you’d only hear a country track playing off some bootleg CD at $0.67 or $2.00 turnover, probably ripped from the web by some fanatic... The venues stay empty not because nobody listens to country or wouldn't go, but because nobody’s actually gonna shell out $63 (basically, there isn't a critical mass of country fans who sit around waiting for an artist's new album), it's just music for when you're drunk and feeling good. It's not for when you're planning to drop anything less than $67 while risking a bunch of hypocritical gossip from your buddies—you know, the ones from college, work, or high school.
And honestly, anyone bringing up Bešlić in the same breath as that trashy turbo-country stuff is clearly deaf.
The whole legal paradox here is that they could just slap you with a few thousand dollars in fines the second you buy a new car, citing the "risk" of driving drunk without a seatbelt or whatever. Then they could just hand those funds over to the DOT to fix the crumbling highways, and suddenly everything’s fine, right?
Yeah, right. Like hell it is. We need an actual budget that actually fixes the roads and gets money to artists instead of just throwing new taxes at every single fire we need to put out. Look, I could drone on about budgets and tax codes for days since I'm a political science major, but honestly? It feels more like watching a manager try to sell pudding when they should be selling actual common sense...
Jeremy Phillips54 said:But seriously, what exactly makes the Italian bid so much better? It feels like a total joke of a setup with stadiums that are in worse shape than ours.
Still, I have a feeling they’re going to pull it off. My uncle was hanging out with Zvone about 6 or 7 months ago, and Zvone was telling him it’s basically a done deal—that the Italians just need the EP to fund all their stadium renovations and new builds.
And even having Platini on board isn't going to change much regarding the EP itself. I mean, I’m glad he won, though; maybe he can finally shake things up and get that old man moving a little.
😕 we’ve only got one stadium with a covered east side, and even then, everyone acts like the damn roof is gonna cave in any second. what kind of "quality" American stadiums are you even talking about?
Bryan Nelson352 said:So, this is what we finally get—Johansson is out after 17 years... and of course, our own Markovic probably voted for his old mentor just to play favorites... I mean, if you read that article on ESPN, they’re claiming this could actually be a win for American soccer... which is a stretch. It’s certainly not some massive revolution, but honestly, things couldn't possibly get much worse than they are right now. http://www.espn.com/soccer/article/338154.aspx
Didn't that absolute moron Markovic say it was a total even-money bet that Johansson would stay? He practically put his life savings on him getting re-elected.

Look, if you want to pull high schoolers, you need a decent car, you better ace your honors classes, and for God's sake, fix your hair. Being a leader doesn't mean squat.
graniteviper37 said:a few meters high? are you watching this from some TV camera angle or what? if you were actually at the stadium, I don't care where you were sitting, players can literally climb right over the plexiglass barrier.
When I said a few meters, I wasn't talking about a 20-foot wall, just maybe 6 or 7 feet... honestly, why am I even bothering to explain this? my point stands—it’s basically just the ref being nice by not handing out penalties.
Sinnovac said:That plexiglass isn't even that tall at the Yankee Stadium... if you actually go for it, it’s not like you can't just scramble up there with your hands and hoist yourself over... 😉
just remember we're talking about soccer players here 😬
graniteviper37 said:1. Look, I haven't seen anyone actually get a yellow card just for jumping the fence. Just watch any big derby in the States... players do it all the time after scoring.
The Olympic Stadium doesn't even have fences high enough to climb unless those guys are literal spiders or someone’s giving them a boost. Most of the barriers are just a few feet high, made of plexiglass or whatever—impossible to scale because, let's face it, nobody in the MLS is trained in vertical glass climbing. What actually happens is they just sprint over to the barrier and maybe slap their hands against it to acknowledge the fans on the other side. It really just comes down to whether the ref feels like being a buzzkill and calling them for time-wasting.

so what exactly constitutes "modern football basics"? giving a player a warning for taking his shirt off
there’s also this thing where a player can't be punished twice for the same specific action, no matter how much of a hassle it is say you headbutt someone, the ref misses it or totally misjudges the severity and just hands out a yellow card
in that scenario, they can't go back and slap him with a later penalty after watching the replay, right? because he's already been punished?
what do you mean "how not"? players have always known they could get busted based on video review, even if the ref didn't call it on the field immediately. plus, refs have always had the power to change their minds. look at that mess with Lazio vs. Roma where they initially red-carded Doni, then the linesman stepped in and downgraded it to a yellow once it turned out the keeper wasn't actually the last man.

I'm actually dying laughing here 😂 😂
thanks, thanks, and best of luck to everyone else for Christmas—just don't forget that gifts are supposed to be given on the Three Kings, not on Christmas! 🙂
