Arthur Anderson49 said:The absolute worst thing is when a porn director tries to get all philosophical on you. If we’re going to mix genres, I’d much rather have an actual philosopher tackle pornography.

I'm with you there. There's nothing quite like porn with "artistic pretensions." 🙂

But I can't sign off on "2001: A Space Odyssey"... though I totally get where you're coming from. One critic described it perfectly as "hypnotically boring." You just have to be in exactly the right headspace to let it "hypnotize" you.
That one five (or maybe ten?) minute scene of some shuttle drifting through space with the Earth in the background could easily compete for both the most boring and the best scenes ever made at the same time. Pure genius.

The top-tier ski resorts I’ve hit over the last 15 years:

1. Mount Rainier (went twice!)
2. Aspen
3. Just some hills near my house.

😕

Actually, I can. It doesn't bother me one bit.

A quick Hall of Fame list of the most cynical comments ever posted on this board:

1. Oh, well, everything is just wonderful now!
2. Thanks for actually contributing something for once.
3. I appreciate you updating your profile info so we don't have to do it for you.
Betty Blue, David Lynch. It’s not exactly a disaster (mostly thanks to the cast), but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece either.

As the Ramones would say,
you wanna go get some Chinese food

🙂

I'd honestly rather just hop on a plane to Japan. I hear Momus is a total superstar over there. 😁 Though, I have to admit, I'm a little confused—how?! 🤔

I mean, it’s not like that has much to do with you over in Chicago... 😬 😈

Devendra.

🙂 There you have it.

My top musical discovery of the year

1. Devendra Banhart

It took me a little while to really wrap my head around him, even though stormyviper11 sent me all his albums as MP3s. But once I actually dove in...

It took me quite a while too. I don't know if he's quite enough to be the "discovery of the year" just yet—that spot is currently reserved for Momus 😁, mostly because I fell for him at first sight, which rarely happens to me 😍. Regardless, he's great, but I realized that all his songs about little critters (sparrows, spiders...) are absolutely flawless. 😬
So, there you have it: Devendra, the bird and bug guy. 🙏

Carol Jackson45 said:My blood pressure spiked the moment they launched that fundraising drive for animals caught in the tsunami. Up until then, I actually had a shred of respect for their projects—meaning, I didn't think they were all complete idiots—but now? I take them just as seriously as members of Heaven's Gate.☕

Heaven's Gate, I have to admit my own interest was mostly driven by those poor animals hit by the tsunami. Honestly, I was just captivated by the deep-sea creature photos the waves washed up on the coast. You could really get a clear look at all their strange little features there.😛

Fair enough, you gotta give him credit for that one!

The top 5 most common names you'll run into at an auto shop:

My bad!
I forgot to mention that there’s a whole other category above everything else: pancakes in Napa Valley (doesn't even matter what they're filled with). But you have to go during the off-season when the town is basically a ghost town and those pancakes are the only thing keeping the 15 chefs and 23 servers from losing their minds.

Tinchi said:So, we're talking pancakes?
1. lemon and sugar
2. Nutella
3. chocolate chips
4. savory meat filling
5. baked with cheese

🙂

1. That works for me.
2. Actually, jam—though it really depends on my mood (plum or apricot are always top tier).
3. I could go with option 2.
4. Option 5, but add some walnuts.
5. Quince or apple jam plus cocoa (or maybe some melted chocolate).

3. Velimir Grgić-Jegulje, beans, bukkake

Someone gave me the rundown on a few parts of the book, and honestly, it sounds like a blast. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some details in there that I might actually prefer to leave unread. 😁

lonebison37 said:"The grasshopper crawled up her sleeve" is actually a song about pregnancy 😬

I haven't stumbled upon that specific theory yet, but that line "Go on, girl, get into that cornfield and set yourself up however you can!" definitely sounds like the prelude to the kind of situation mentioned above. 😁

Then again, if I really think about it, there's a chance she was just forced out into the field after eating way too much heavy navy bean chili and cabbage rolls. 😬

My top 5 favorite local tracks about animals... or at least anything involving creatures:

Tom Petty "Tu-tu, auto, vrag ti piz odnija!"
Idoli "Moja si"
The Doors "No comment"
Alternative rock discography "Grasshopper got stuck in her sleeve"
Alternative rock discography "Yellowed trumpets"

On the bench:
Arsenic "Man and Dog"

I noticed none of Corbin's tracks made the cut. It feels a bit unfair when people go out of their way to mention beasts in almost every other song—if not every second one, then certainly every third—so here we go:
+ EXTRA BONUS: 5 of my favorite animal-themed Corbin tracks:

Indifferent to the yard
Two dollars, buddy
I don't want to be an animal
Faithful dog
The dogs are going to finish me off

I wouldn't have lasted even a decade in that position myself—and I'm not even that far off. 🙂 So, I finally sat down and watched Pink Flamingos... 😁
