Look, if you think cutting calories is the only way to go, you could just as easily cut out a quart of milk and a couple of candy bars instead. Or grab some fruit. It’s all math.

What do you actually expect to gain from whey? Honestly, it's just more food. 😁
And let's be real—you can grind through 200 sit-ups every single day if you want, but you're still going to end up with a rock-hard gut and tiny, pathetic abs. 😁

I used to be that guy, too. I was killing myself doing 4 or 5 sets of 250 crunches, wondering why my abs weren't popping, all while chugging whey like it was water. 😛

If you're gonna use whey, at least pair it with some glucose. $3.25 I'll shoot you a DM about it.

The bottom line? Chocolate milk actually edges it out. Specifically regarding sugars, the sucrose and fructose found in that chocolate milk perform just as well, if not better, than glucose when it comes to refilling those glycogen stores.

I shared the article because it's packed with actual scientific references; you can tell the guy isn't just making stuff up on the fly.

By the way, that guy (Alan Aragon) writes some top-tier stuff on nutrition. 🙏
Highly recommend checking out: www.alanaragon.com

Thanks, I'll definitely take a look at that second link once I catch a break.

So, from what I’ve gathered reading up on this stuff,
you’re looking at roughly 1.5 to 2g of protein and somewhere between 4 to 6g of carbs, depending on whether you have a fast or slow metabolism. Basically, if you're a slower mover, you go lower; if you're a furnace, you go higher. Honestly, though? I have absolutely no clue how to figure out which category I actually fall into.

Personally, I cap my protein intake at 2g a day—though half the time I don't even hit that mark. My Body Fat stays pretty much stagnant, yet the scale keeps creeping up, maybe around 4 or 5 pounds a month. I’d like to think it’s mostly lean muscle being added with just a tiny bit of fat, but hey, I'm not exactly tracking every single macro. I just make sure there's some protein and carbs in every meal and call it a day.

Look, you can totally give me the gist if you don't mind summarizing it quickly. I honestly don't have the bandwidth to sit down and read the whole thing right now.

That really depends on what you're actually trying to achieve. Look, if your big dream is to pack on 20 pounds of pure muscle, then honestly? No, it’s probably not worth it because you aren't going to hit those gains that way. In my opinion, spending money on supplements while just grinding out bodyweight stuff like sit-ups and push-ups is kind of a waste of cash. I'm assuming you're just sticking to calisthenics without any actual weights?

Look, personally, I’ve always found it way harder to smash through 2 or 2.5 grams of protein than to just deal with the carbs. 😢

Just hop onto Google and search for "Body Fat calculator"

And you'll end up looking at something like this
http://www.linear-software.com/online.html

Edit: There are also those methods where you measure your waist, arms, legs, wrists, or whatever else, depending on whether you're a guy or a girl. It’s not exactly pinpoint accurate, but it'll give you a ballpark figure for your Body Fat. I ended up using this one because I don't have access to that specific device—I can't even remember what the thing is called, honestly😁

My campus dining hall is basically right next to the gym, so I usually knock back a protein shake immediately after my sets and then just linger under the shower😁 to kill at least half an hour between finishing my workout and actually sitting down to eat at the hall.

Honestly, that long shower strategy is priceless. 😁😁😁😁😁

Look, if that gainer actually has whey in it, I’d say it’s totally worth grabbing right after a workout. Then, within about an hour, you should follow it up with a solid, slow-digesting protein meal—throw some fats in there too, too.

placidranger said:I honestly just mix glucose straight into my whey all the time. It’s purely because I’m too lazy to actually cook a meal, so I figure I might as well bump up the calories that way.

Look, I used to do the same thing, and hey, there's nothing wrong with that. But you can't go walking into a store, buy some overpriced gainer, and expect to instantly pack on five pounds. You could literally drink a gainer and still lose weight if your overall diet sucks. A gainer isn't some magic potion; it's just food in powder form, plain and simple.

Basically, I'm going to go buy some damn mass gainer... and please, just spare me the lecture in the comments. I get it, okay? Gainer is just overpriced sugar... it's just whey mixed with glucose... I know how the sausage is made, trust me.

Look, there's a massive difference between knowing something and actually understanding it. If you truly understood the implications, you wouldn't be thinking this way.

fadedsailor17 said:No, seriously, jokes aside, I’m a total amateur here. I don't care about getting shredded or packing on massive muscle mass—that's not my thing at all. What I actually need is pure strength. Here's the deal: I need something to help me get stronger in a short window of time, obviously alongside training, because I have to hit certain physical standards for my job. For example, I need to be able to crank out 100 pushups, so right now I’m hitting the gym three times a day, but I’m wondering if using some of those supplements would speed up my progress? I'm on a tight deadline here. I know nothing happens overnight, but man, if I could hit my target number just a month earlier, that would be a huge win for me.

You’ll actually progress faster if you *stop* working out three times a day, otherwise you're just going to burn out from overtraining. As far as legal supplements go, there isn't anything that’s going to give you the jumpstart you're looking for. And we aren't allowed to discuss illegal stuff here, so...

Look, she’s just a retail worker; she isn't expected to know all the "professional" terminology. 😛

You’re seriously comparing an anabolic steroid to some random plant extract? 🙄 Go ahead, try actual Anabol and then you'll see what a real steroid actually does. Besides, "steroid" is just a scientific term for a class of chemical compounds—I don't know exactly which ones, but hey, cholesterol is a steroid. So using the word "steroid" doesn't automatically mean you're talking about some magic chemical that makes you grow like a weed after a rainstorm; it's just chemistry. You've already got enough steroids in your own body to satisfy a pharmacy.

Of course it doesn't show up in clinical trials if they aren't even testing it because it's considered irrelevant.

They write this exact same garbage about plenty of other supplements I've wasted my time on, and let me tell you, I haven't seen any increase in strength, mass, or anything else. It was just money down the drain.

Come on, just tell me—what does that "natural steroid" actually do? It probably doesn't do squat, just like all those other junk supplements out there.

Alexander Lee81 said:If you’re already messing around with some kind of protein supplements... Look, I’m just going to say it: stop playing guessing games with your diet and go talk to a professional nutritionist. Seriously. You can spend all day scrolling through endless threads or following some random fitness influencer's "miracle" meal plan, but at the end of the day, you're basically just throwing darts in the dark. I know, I know—it sounds like expensive advice, and yeah, maybe it is, but think about what you're actually spending on supplements and failed diets that don't work. It’s much better to sit down with an actual expert who knows how to look at your specific body chemistry and goals. They can help you cut through all the noise and figure out what your body actually needs to function. Trust me, it's worth it to get it right the first time instead of wasting months spinning your wheels.

🤣

Man, I swear, I feel like I know half these people personally—specifically those nutritionists running around with Herbalife. It’s honestly ridiculous. These people act like literal robots; they just cram their heads full of whatever nonsense they read on some cheap flyer and then go around pushing the exact same tired scripts to everyone they meet. They don't have a clue. Seriously, they don't understand a single thing about metabolism or anabolism, yet they talk like they're experts. It's exhausting.

Honestly, if you’re looking for the real deal on nutrition—like, actually useful info about what to eat and which nutritionists are worth your time—this forum is basically the holy grail. It’s all right here.
