I’m not entirely sure how I stumbled upon this movie, but all I knew going in was that it fell under the "sci-fi" umbrella, and I have to admit, it genuinely blew me away.
It seems to be one of those polarizing films—the kind where people either absolutely adore it or completely despise it. 🙂))
It’s a massive myth that you can't achieve anything without a degree from a prestigious film academy. What does "graduating from film school" even actually signify? If you possess genuine talent, the drive, a vision, and enough grit to navigate the industry, you can produce a film that hits the festival circuit without breaking a sweat. And if you manage to network along the way—which isn't nearly as impossible as people claim, especially in a place like the US where everyone seems to be connected—you can make a career out of filmmaking just fine.
Honestly, film academies are overrated, and frankly, I find them a bit exhausting. You have these old-school professors who act like they've cornered the market on wisdom, spending years trying to force you to shoot films exactly how they envision them, rather than letting you follow your own instincts. I'm not just talking out of turn here; I know plenty of people and faculty members within those institutions, even if I didn't attend one myself.
Besides, the landscape has shifted completely. These days, you grab a decent digital camera that won't break the bank, create something inspired, and upload it to the internet or YouTube. If the work is good, people will watch it. You can effectively broadcast your voice to the world whenever you want... There are platforms, there are indie circuits, and there's a whole host of festivals dedicated to showcasing young, unestablished directors, regardless of whether they have a diploma or not.
The only thing an academy really teaches you is certain technical skills, but in this day and age, those aren't the gatekeepers anymore. You can learn to edit footage shot on your own gear quite professionally right in your own living room. You don't need a university setting for that.
At the end of the day, you just need to keep shooting. It's really that simple; there's no grand philosophy required.

I’d honestly love to send that gratingly obnoxious frontman to have a little "chat" with some white supremacists down in southern Montana. Let him see how easy it is to swat flies. With a handgun. They didn't play the old stuff, they didn't even have a drummer, and they were just scraping by at Fortress Europe for the first time, but somehow they managed to pull it off through sheer cacophony.........
Wow, you're just so witty and incredibly cool...
To be honest, yesterday was actually a much better day than I expected!
Asian Dub Foundation absolutely crushed it at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and if anyone tries to tell you otherwise, they’re just lying...🙏
Cage the Elephant was decent enough, but Iggy Pop was honestly pretty underwhelming—though that’s just my take...
!!! - what even is that???? 👎
And I can't stand LCD Soundsystem.
Overall, the festival was alright. Maybe next year they could try bringing in some more interesting acts...😁
Yeah, last year was pretty rough... the lineup felt uninspired and weak, and that whole festive atmosphere in town was basically non-existent. I didn't even stick around for the final day because I just couldn't bring myself to care anymore, and the last day is usually the highlight. I’ve been to the Sundance Film Festival about five times, once even volunteering, and I’m really hoping they can pull it together this year. If they can't, I think I'm done for good... 🙂
I mean, they did light those palms right in the middle of the party at Bamboo Bar up there, which was actually pretty cool... 🤣
I caught this movie yesterday at the local independent cinema during the Human Rights Film Festival, and honestly, it’s a must-watch once it hits the mainstream theaters. It’s truly excellent.
It was directed by Richard Linklater and is based on the novel by Philip K. Dick.
Here is the link:
Anyway, Keanu Reeves stars in it. Now, he isn't exactly known for his range as an actor, but since he's playing an addict with a completely fried brain here, the role actually fits him perfectly.🤣
So, has anyone else seen it? I'd love to hear your thoughts or comments...
I actually crew t-shirt from the set of that movie. It’s red, and the front says "how are you"—which is what those kids in the film keep repeating—and the back has the title plus "Kenya crew" 🙂 🙂 Pretty damn cool, right?
That said, I honestly think the movie is garbage...
AC/DC - Highway to Hell - a total classic
Iron Maiden - Man on the Edge, and I From Here to Eternity
Motörhead - Built for Speed
In my opinion, these tracks lean more toward car culture, but honestly, I could probably sit here and play a whole mountain of songs that I just love...
Wait, this just hit me...
That scene where Picard gets tossed out of the shuttle in the Jeep and turns around with that look—you know the one—that hollow stare and that faint, unsettling smirk? It’s absolutely brilliant. Honestly, one of the best moments in the entire series...
neoneagle15 said:...It’s almost funny. It took them ten movies, plus Star Trek: The Original Series, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise just to realize that starships can actually collide with one another... 👍
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, let’s not forget that one episode of Star Trek: Voyager where the Captain charges headlong into some vessel controlling time, causing both her ship and the other craft to explode, only for time to reset (or whatever the mechanic was...) 🙄, and of course, nobody is hurt. Voyager comes out without a single scratch, and everyone just carries on as if nothing happened at all...
Does anyone actually listen to 3dd? I’ve picked up a few tracks lately—"loser," "when im gone"—and honestly, they’re pretty solid...
Yeah, sure, there's plenty of commercial fluff and nonsense involved, but whatever...
Honestly, my experience at the Sundance Film Festival was anything but bad. I don't get why people complain about it being full of preppies and socialites—it wasn't really like that, except maybe on the final day... those "preppy" types were mostly just hanging out at that bamboo bar, while everyone else was actually watching films and grabbing drinks elsewhere. The vibe was honestly great all five days, the crowd was solid, and I’m definitely planning to head back next year...
And let's talk about the ticket prices—they’re steep! But honestly, I managed to catch almost every movie for free. They’d let people watch screenings in the plaza outside the hotel or over at Bauer, and even at that cinema by the walls, you could just slip in right as the movie started without a ticket... Even the shuttle bus passes worked the same way; you buy one and use it all five days without anyone giving you a hard time.
On a side note, if those two gorgeous goths who kept walking past me and my friend near that little pub—Muré, I think it was—are reading this, feel free to reach out... 😁 😁
Lars rules!!!!
Alright, look, the movie isn't quite as mindless as something like Daredevil... but that woman with the spikes coming out of her fingers is easily the most idiotic guy in the history of bad characters. And on top of that, she almost takes down Wolverine...
