Jamie Palmer said:Look, if you actually know your stuff and have run the numbers, I believe you, but if that's the case, we're basically talking about free energy at that point...

Well, fine then, let's go with that. Personally, I burn through at least two breakfast sandwiches for every hundred miles I drive, which is practically $13 and even that’s assuming perfect conditions, which they never actually are... 👍

But we were discussing electricity, not my diet...
My actual power consumption is probably somewhere around a few dozen kWh...👍
We took a little road trip out through the Catskills this past weekend $27 and the cost per person was negligible, especially since we got our electricity for free 😬...

Electricity is incredibly cheap right now, especially if you just charge everything overnight when rates are three times lower, so honestly, what's not to love?
And truly, I haven't met anyone yet who wouldn't offer that kind of deal...
The real dilemma is how you even pay someone back, because the amounts are so laughably small that it feels awkward to even bring it up...
In campgrounds, the difference is usually $1.00 per day between a site with hookups and one without... 😉

I'm fully aware it's essentially free energy, which is exactly why I'm taking advantage of it...
I'll be the first to admit I'm a total capitalist at heart, so when I was looking at getting an e-bike or a scooter, I sat down and mapped everything out on paper...
Eventually, the math tipped the scales; even though a standard scooter might seem cheaper upfront, this option wins out once you factor in all the other perks...

Just to give you an idea, I ended up spending about 11 $0.00 roughly, whereas I could have grabbed a scooter over at Pep Boys for $1167—and I think they had some even cheaper ones available...

Well, it’s not exactly dollars, but we’re looking at maybe a dollar and a half on 62 miles 😉

It’s high time I hit the 😬

At least my place uses that much electricity, so it could easily end up being
I’d bet you a beer that 😉

I’ll bring over a meter (unless you’ve got one handy) and we can see
Anyway, so far
Hopefully, we’ll be getting to the point where charging is totally free soon... 😉

It’s definitely not true that you're stuck at 25 mph... you can absolutely push it faster than that if you really want to 🙂

Anyway, I’ve posted about my bike on a few different forums before, including right here in this thread
And look, I get it—I’m not exactly a hardcore cyclist or anything, but it’s hard to argue when ninety percent of my gear is basically professional grade
The bike I ended up with was a bit more of an investment than I initially planned, but honestly, looking back, I think I got a pretty stellar deal

I picked up most of my parts from Artemis... they don't take credit cards, just straight cash, but I've been seeing more and more people riding around town with their custom setups 🙂

Crises can be anticipated, and crises will pass... but allowing the younger generation to grow old as renters or living under their parents' roof... denying them perspective and the right to build a life and work... that is a DISGRACE!!!!!

God, imagine being "ashamed" because you're renting a place...
I'm sure most Germans and Americans out there are absolutely mortified by your standards right about now...

but hey, they don't seem to let those little issues stop them from traveling the world, do they? 😬

What kind of actual progress are we seeing with all this concrete construction, instead of actually investing in things like education or travel opportunities for kids?
In thirty or forty years, it'll just be another headache since someone will have to deal with maintaining those crumbling ruins...

To whoever started this thread, I'm glad you got the answers you were looking for, best of luck with everything else...

I’ve been getting around to running my errands on a bicycle lately, though I actually went ahead and rigged up an electric motor so I don't end up drenched in sweat by the time I arrive... you might want to give that a thought
if you really want to take the easy way out, you just pedal lightly while giving it a little bit of throttle 😉

I was actually talking about court costs
where on earth would you get lawyer fees from? 🤷
well, he doesn't necessarily have to have them

Do you think the plaintiff can still manage things while the lawsuit is ongoing?
If he ends up being sued and decides to lay out the whole story to the judge in his response, the judge will probably schedule a hearing in no time at all and wrap the whole thing up. Once they hear the facts, everything will be crystal clear—it’s just a baseless lawsuit through and through. If you have a second, take a look back at a few pages of what I wrote about this earlier.

Oh, come on now, let's not be silly.
If you ever accidentally sent money to someone else's account, you’d definitely be singing a different tune. Listen to this guy—why on earth would I give back something that isn't mine? 👎Well, it’s really just because the law says you have to follow through; you can't exactly claim it was all an accident to get out of it.
Seriously, just stop with all the talk about milk...

There's really no connection to be made between ownership and possession here.
The only thing that really matters here is that his net worth was inflated without any actual justification, especially since his debt has already been cleared.

Does he actually have to show up for the first hearing?
Or maybe the second one?

Besides that, the legal fees should at least be split down the middle, and given how bad things are for him, they might even let him off the hook entirely

He isn't even in the wrong here; he's willing to pay it back, he just doesn't have the cash sitting around right now
so someone really needs to drag him through the court system if they want results😉

I'd much rather help out a fellow forum member than some random clerk at a government office
honestly, if he messed up, he should just pay it and be done with it instead of letting them harass the guy
or better yet, let him file for reimbursement for his travel and time spent dealing with this mess😉

And he shouldn't even have to worry about interest payments either
he can always tell a different version of events when he stands before the judge😉

As for all this moral high ground stuff, it doesn't move me... money is money

If a company makes an erroneous payment, that's a mistake made by someone within the firm, and it's their responsibility to fix the payroll issue...
Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
man, just head straight to the press, honestly, there isn't a better way to handle this 😉
trust me, once the story hits the news cycle, they’ll suddenly find a way to forgive those debts because the bank wants to maintain its "wholesome" image

just tell them everything exactly like you're doing here and see how quickly things start getting resolved
and make sure to mention, maybe even a few times, how much you actually want to settle up but simply can't... how they're basically forcing you to rack up extra travel expenses just because of their own screw-ups, and how incredibly rude they've been, all that stuff...
Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't give her a single cent back just yet...

I mean, why even stress about it? Just drag the whole legal thing out a bit longer. Tell them they were being aggressive, maybe even threatening, and that you tried to settle things reasonably but they wouldn't bud라—basically make sure they know this isn't on you at all...
Since you're short on cash right now
maybe wait until the third or fourth hearing before you even worry about the money...😉

Actually, your best bet is probably just to find a decent lawyer and let him handle everything...😉

Just feed him those little fairy tales about how everything was stolen or cursed, and trust me, it'll all come back to you eventually... you see it happen all over the world, how people who play dirty always end up paying the price...😉
It's just one of those stories those self-righteous moralists try to tell to keep you acting like a pushover.
Import duties on carbon fiber? in Cycling ·
I mean, you could just aim for a rough estimate if you want, but honestly, it’s probably smarter to just budget for about 50% more than you think...
plus, when you're dealing with those bigger, heavier shipments, you've got to factor in the extra storage fees they tack on at the end😉

as for customs and PayPal, there are tons of deep dives on the finance subreddits if you feel like reading through them, but basically, PayPal just acts as the middleman for your payments and usually adds a decent layer of protection to the whole transaction
Import duties on carbon fiber? in Cycling ·
If you’re looking at prices here in the States, you really ought to factor in an extra 50% just to cover shipping and everything else...

That’s pretty much my rule of thumb, honestly; I always calculate things that way, even when I'm sourcing parts for a car, so it’s a safe bet to assume it'll land somewhere in that ballpark...
Bicycles shouldn't be any different, though, and if you're lucky, you might even be able to pass two of them through customs as personal items...

I’d definitely suggest sticking with PayPal, though I suppose even that isn't a total guarantee against headaches...

And please, whatever you do, try to steer clear of those big courier services, because they’ll probably end up hitting you with even steeper fees than you expect...
Given the sheer size of what you're ordering, there might also be some issues with bearing duties or something similar...

Honestly, this thread should probably just be locked because it's pretty obvious you don't actually care about the question you asked

Just take your nonsense elsewhere, maybe head up to a different sub or something
besides, cannibals are still people, and the people running those camps are people too 😉
why on earth would they have two kids instead of just one 🤷
and why do both of them need a college degree when they could just work a shift at a Ford plant starting at 5 PM like back in the day?

Go ahead and lock this... it's just some frustrated kid who doesn't know anything, just spouting empty demagoguery he read on some random Wikipedia page

Yeah, everyone has a TV, a smartphone, a car: but when you add up all your monthly bills, what’s left from an average American salary? You guys are talking nonsense, watching too many movies like Wall Street and closing your eyes when you walk through downtown, ignoring all the poverty and people scavenging through trash. I doubt it was like this just a few years ago. It's obviously the same in Europe, too. What do you think? I bet some "smart" book tells you to ignore poverty if you want to be a real leader. Hahahaha.🤣
You know it's proven that the world's strongest leaders today are basically brainless when it comes to investing. Why are they so successful? Because instead of brains, they've got balls. And I guess that's what works for you guys. 🤷

Yeah, built for our upcoming generations

The only person talking nonsense here is you 😉
You watch some mindless movie, get sucked into conspiracy theories, have absolutely no clue what's going on, and now you're posting stuff that has nothing to do with the actual topic...

It's pretty obvious you aren't even interested in what you originally asked, it's just too heavy a subject for you, probably requires reading way too many books

And what exactly was left over from an average salary back in the old days?
Prices were higher, and everyone simply had less to work with 😉
Now, people actually have a lot more purchasing power for the same amount of cash
Except for cars, of course, and even then, whether it was then or now, a car usually costs about ten times a monthly paycheck

Just because you didn't notice something doesn't mean it wasn't happening... there have been people making a living off scrap and recycling for decades, honestly that's where the real money is made

If there weren't those government rebates and incentives, you wouldn't see them digging through the bins nearly as often 😉
Besides, where on earth do you live that there are even trash bins sitting out in the middle of a public square?
I have to admit, I haven't really seen that myself

Wow, look at you, you've read so many books, such incredible information

Why should I even bother worrying about other people? 🤷
I don't care, I look out for myself and the people who actually matter to me

Go ahead, show me your "evidence," I certainly didn't know that
I already know that people missing a few brain cells tend to end up working in certain government institutions

And yeah, among the folks collecting bottles and cans, there are definitely some like that too, which is just a disgrace to the whole country

darkmarlin92 said:Honestly, the government doesn't control anything anymore. Most countries have zero manufacturing left because we're just flooded with cheap junk from overseas. No production means no jobs, and without jobs, nobody can actually survive in this world.
It makes you wonder why our national debt is so insane. Capitalism wrecked us, handed over our country's resources to corporations on long-term leases, and gutted our economy. And here we are, trying to fix everything by throwing massive amounts of borrowed money at the problem... but it's impossible. Everything is just about the money. You gotta realize that.

WRONG

It isn't really about the money, it's more about that fundamental human drive to exert influence and feed the ego...
which is just part of being human, I suppose, the way some people naturally dominate while others follow...

if currency didn't exist, we'd just be fighting over rocks, land, or sheer clout (though, wait, looking closer, it seems like those things are still acquired through cash, see how it works... 😬 )

maybe try picking up a few books from different fields once in a while... psychology and biology might help clear things up... 😉

you say there's no manufacturing, but then you claim production is coming from other countries?
so there actually is production after all... 😬
and if there's production, then there are jobs... 😉

I'd also suggest checking out that series, Carlos 😉

The idea that Americans are all living on the edge of poverty is just a flat-out nonsense thesis

Most people are actually leading pretty standard lives... I mean, look around, everyone has smartphones, high-speed internet, streaming services—stuff we couldn't even dream of back in the mid-century days
There’s also a much higher diagnosis rate for neurodivergence now compared to then, which honestly just means we're better at identifying it, so things are arguably better😉

If things were truly so golden during the old era, why was everyone trying to flee the country, and why were people constantly sneaking across the border to shop in other places?
Why were there only a handful of bus routes or train trips available?
The national debt was absolutely massive, and that administration was essentially running entirely on credit
It’s pretty clear you don't have much of a grasp on either history or basic economics😬
etc...

It obviously wasn't nearly as great as your nostalgia suggests😉

Maybe grab a history book or some philosophy and give it a read, then you might actually start to wrap your head around it
And let's not forget, they had those rigid seniority systems back then too😉

I don't see what's stopping you from making your own money, really🤷
Clearly, the current system works just fine for the majority who benefit from it, but as for those who are perpetually dissatisfied... well, luckily there are plenty of intentional communities out there where they can go live by their own rules

I honestly see nothing but the upside when it comes to JPMorgan Chase 🤷

whenever I find myself short on cash, I don't have to go around begging friends or family for favors; instead, I just borrow, leverage that capital, and let their money work for me

and when I’ve got a little extra lying around, I’m happy to lend it out and watch those interest payments roll in 😬

Banks are the absolute gold standard

whereas those government-run outfits have already proven themselves... socialism was basically a coma, which is why you don't see it anywhere on the global stage anymore
because people eventually realized it was just an excuse for the lazy to leech off the productive members of society

as for the answer to your question, just spend the day actually learning something... rather than wasting an hour or two on some mindless flick, grab some books (you know, those thick things sitting in the library, if you ask your auntie she'll tell you)
Currency adjustment clauses in loans in Economy ·
Richard Lewis16 said:I mean, most people have already pointed this out, so sure, I guess I'll just wander around aimlessly until the USD-denominated loans finally show up... though if folks had just kept their savings tucked away in some local credit union back in the day—you know, when those places actually offered decent dollar-based lending—we’d probably be looking at a much higher volume of these types of loans right now...

The banks shouldn't have even broken a sweat setting all those rigid conditions in the first place, because let's be honest, there were plenty of people who didn't care about the fine print and were perfectly willing to sign whatever was put in front of them
if more people had actually stood their ground and said "no thanks," the banks would have been forced to pivot and actually cater to the public... though, of course, you can't ignore how much the federal government plays into this too, since they don't really give a damn about what individual interest rates look like as long as they get their cut, which is exactly why we ended up seeing those rates spike for regular Americans

😉 come on, it's pretty obvious if you just look at it

The thing is, you still have to actually prove a contract exists, and like I mentioned before, proving that is going to be a real uphill battle

You can find plenty of similar discussions over on LexisNexis😉

I’m still struggling to wrap my head around why on earth I would end up doing your job for you🤷
If you’re out there doing everyone else's heavy lifting, well, that’s your own little problem to deal with😉

Just take a look at my very first post in this thread... skip down to the third sentence and just read from there onwards😉

You’re always typing away, acting like you’ve heard it all before, yet you never actually point to what you're talking about...

I’m just laying out what the defense can realistically argue, and what a judge is actually likely to go along with...
that witnesses shouldn't be close friends, and that any verbal agreement absolutely requires both sides to be on board...

The attorney is sitting right here next to me 😛 and we're discussing how things actually work in practice, rather than just reading what's printed in the statute books—because, well, we both know how much of that stuff matters in a real courtroom...
