Most of this is Simon & Garfunkel stuff.
For instance:

Kathy's Song

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls

And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To America, where my heart lies

My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day

And a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme

And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I

COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2: What do we know? in Health ·
I’m still running a fever—it’s been hovering somewhere between 99.5 and basically 102.
Actually, today was the first time it actually dipped down to 99.5, so I thought maybe I was finally turning a corner—but no, now I'm back up at 100.4.
I've been doing the whole compress thing, inhaled some chamomile steam a couple of times, managed to sweat a little bit here and there... mostly just lying in bed, I guess.
COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2: What do we know? in Health ·
I guess this topic isn't exactly a crowd-pleaser.🙄
Anyway, for me, it all kicked off with some coughing and this weird scratching sensation in my throat—which, naturally, felt just like a standard cold at first.
I didn't think I was hitting a fever stage right away, mostly because I was still functioning reasonably well. So, I just grabbed some lozenges and some Tylenol and sucked on those.
Then came the evening heat wave, specifically centered in my head—sort of like when a character in The Simpsons starts steaming from the ears when they get angry, if I'm being descriptive.
By that point, I figured maybe this wasn't just a mild cold, so I called my doctor, and she immediately sent me in for testing.
The test was scheduled for the next morning, and the results actually came back pretty quickly by early afternoon.
So yeah, certain self-isolation protocols apply, and my household is under quarantine too.
I've been sticking to warm drinks—tea, muesli with milk, chicken soup... things like that—and taking Lupocet, but the temperature just won't settle down.
Generally speaking, it peaks in the evening and around midnight (hitting 102), while during the day it stays hovering around 100.
Despite the fever, I actually feel okay—almost like I don't even have one.
Even that heat in my head—though it's definitely there—feels subjectively less intense.
I'm not sure whether I should be happy about that or more worried.
The cough is still sporadic; sometimes it's intense for a bit, then there's a long stretch of nothing, which makes me think maybe the virus is already leaving.

And yeah, I'm one of those people who works on-site, so I'm guessing I picked up the bug at the office—most likely someone brought it in from outside.

What's your experience been like? Any comments or suggestions?🙂

Do you guys actually buy music? in Music ·
A few artists I’m really into—yeah, I actually treat myself to some vinyl and CDs every now and then—The Beatles, Monsier, Gilbert Becaud's 100,000 Volts, USA Today, Tony Montano...

Bryan Rogers87 said:Look, if you go by that definition—that art isn't just whatever happens to be something you personally dislike—then it logically follows that musical art (or any other kind, really) actually exists. I mean, if we follow that line of reasoning, there’s going to be someone, somewhere on this planet, who hates pretty much any genre you throw at them. It’s a mathematical certainty, I guess. There are people out there who can't stand rock, or jazz, or opera, or light opera, or pop, or country, or metal, or hip-hop, or rap, or dance... you get the idea. It just goes on forever.

So, there was that recent showdown between Hlo and Karleuša.
Look, I don't exactly have Karleuša on my daily playlist—not really my vibe—but you have to admit the girl has backbone. She actually held her own and gave a pretty solid response to that post from Hloverkin:

I guess you could call me a late bloomer—not that anyone's really keeping track. It’s funny how things work out, isn't it? You spend all this time waiting for the right moment, or maybe just waiting for life to actually start making sense—which, let's be honest, it rarely does—and then suddenly, everything shifts. I mean, maybe I was just moving at my own pace all along, or maybe I was just stuck in some sort of cosmic intermission. Who knows? It’s all pretty arbitrary, I suppose. says:
Look, dragutinović isn't Seva—he’s just not into that kind of thing. Imagine...On another note—I’m with you there—the devil is definitely a better band than Aerodrom, even if those guys managed to squeeze out a few classics here and there. Honestly, their solo careers? Pretty much a wash. And while Lennon is easily one of the greatest songwriters ever, his solo work just doesn't quite measure up to what he did with The Beatles—it feels a bit inferior, I guess. As for Judolino... well, he's just a witless, rude troll.

I’m a fan of both the devil and aerodrom izrsni—if you can call them that. I guess I like the first group because they really nail that sixties sound—it’s got that vintage vibe—and as for Jurica and his band, they just write solid songs. The melodies are catchy enough that they stick with you, and honestly, Pađen has a pretty great voice.

Let's crank up the contrast—CinemaScope style.
Wind in my hair, ZZ Top playing on the record player—just living the dream, I guess.

And five for San Francisco, I guess.

Anthony Carter5 said:None of those tracks even come close to the level of A Day in the Life, Across The Universe, Strawberry Fields Forever, In My Life, or Tomorrow Never Knows...

I guess Lennon definitely lost some of that songwriting spark during his solo career.

Or Don't Let Me Down.

Maybe the Lennon-McCartney partnership just had that specific kind of chemistry—and despite the partnership, there was always that underlying rivalry, too. Like how Strawberry Fields was basically Lennon's response to Paul's Penny Lane and stuff like that. Plus, we shouldn't overlook the contributions from George Harrison and Ringo Starr. (Ringo at the back again, I suppose!) 🙄

Bryan Rogers87 said:That’s why I think it’s a fundamental mistake when people equate art solely with whatever they personally like or appreciate, while dismissing anything else as "not art."

I mean, why wouldn't Brena and her music be considered art, just like Johann Sebastian Bach? Country music meets all the definitions of musical art, just like Bach's or Mozart music.

How does country music not fit into this simplified definition? 🙂 Brena has all those elements, just like Bach and Mozart.

Music is an art form expressed through sung and/or played tones, various sounds, noises, and the silence between them.

Anyway, I actually quite enjoy that kind of "country" art.
There's a local neighborhood near me where people are having a big party—and the speakers are blasting some seriously heavy country music...

I'm not really sure what the point of a thread title like this is—or even the question itself—but here we go: Is Jurica Pađen actually an artist, or just a decent guitarist? I guess it depends on how you look at it.🤔
Look, if you actually dig his music, then you listen to him and appreciate it—if you don't, you just steer clear. It’s really that simple, I guess.

Like I said before, I really dig his vocals and the songwriting—it just works for me. After catching his show at HNK Rijeka, I ended up picking up the original album Collection for myself.
So, there's this compilation from Sony Music—part of that Original Album Collection series—where they've basically bundled up five of Aerodrom's albums together. I guess it's one of those sets.
The liner notes for this release were penned by S. škarice. Here’s what they had to say:

Honestly, based on what I heard in those /demo/ tracks—stuff like *Kad misli mi vrludaju* and *Kraj tebe u tami*—it really would have been enough to get those studio doors swung wide open at a major label like Sony Music. And I’m not just talking about a quick single release, either—I mean a full LP, maybe even an exclusive contract. I guess.
These legends of the discography—despite everything they’ve been through—have actually aged pretty gracefully over these last 40 years.
Maybe they didn't quite scale the peak of the rock pyramid like their contemporaries in Prljav Kazalište or Paran Valjak—I mean, those guys were on a whole different level, I guess—but they’re right there alongside them, woven into the very foundation of the genre, and they aren't going anywhere.

I haven't actually sat down to listen through the CDs yet—I've been a bit preoccupied, I guess—but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are some nice surprises waiting for me in there. 🙂

Anthony Carter5 said:It’s pretty straightforward—some things I respect, and some things I just can't stand.

I have a certain respect for John Lennon, I guess, even if I feel like he sortally dropped the ball during his solo career. Don't get me wrong—he definitely has some decent tracks in there—but it’s almost like he just lost his edge or something. Maybe he just ran out of steam.

Looking at his solo career, Lennon definitely had some edge—some pretty intense, raw stuff that hits different. For instance, you've got tracks like I'm Losing you, I don't Wanna faca IT NY City zatim, Nobody Told me, Cold Turkey, and New York City... just some heavier vibes in there.
It’s on the same album where they have those softer tracks—I guess. Imagine I guess there isn't much to say yet—just waiting around, I suppose. Yoko Ono...and it also features a pretty intense version of Gimme som Truth.

Gimme som Truth
I'm Losing you
I don't wanna face it.
New York City

Then there’s this one song—it sounds pretty laid-back on the surface, I guess—but... The Luck of The Irish...but with some pretty intense lyrics where Lennon—
He sings about how the Britons are violating Ireland, leading right into those final lines:
Why The Hell ara The English There anyway?
as They kill with god on their side blam IT All on The Kids The Ira as The
as They kill with god on their side blam IT All on The Kids The Ira as The
While those bastards go about committing genocide... yeah, exactly. Genocide.

Anyway—I guess if you look back at it, Lennon was with Yoko Ono around 1972 and put out that album *Sometime in New York*, which was basically just one long series of commentary on all the political chaos happening at the time.
The reviews totally trashed the album, which is a shame—but honestly, there’s some brilliant stuff tucked away in there, like what we were just talking about, or... well, maybe. Woman is The Nigger of The World—that's the line. It’s the kind of place where chauvinism and the whole idea of women being subservient just aren't tolerated—I guess that's the standard now.
Woman is The Nigger of The World

Just a little bit about how "soft" Lennon was.🍿
Is Jurica Pađen an artist? in Music ·
I don't want to start a whole separate thread for this... but yesterday (sub, 13) I caught Pađen Airport live.
Basically, the Airport landed in Cleveland—and they put on an excellent show.

Photos

I’ve always thought Pađen had a beautiful vocal style (on some tracks from the CD, it's almost feminine and soft—I mean that as a compliment, not a critique!), but at this gig, he really tapped into that raw rock'n'roll energy. The band played through all their best stuff, including do the right thing, An Ordinary Love Song, end in darkness, Cancel a Flight—plus a few premieres from the new album coming out later this year. "So, the album is actually pretty good," Pađen joked sarcastically after the crowd cheered for one of the new tracks.

As the concert went on, more people started trickling in (though I don't think it topped three hundred), so after the applause following one song, Pađen remarked: "Oh, look, there are more of you... Great! That means more hits are coming your way... We're here because of you!"

"Any wild women in the house?" the frontman asked, telling the wild women to raise their hands.
Three of them did, so Jurica told them: "Alright, this one is for you three!" and then they launched into wild woman.🤣

Most of the setlist was Airport material, but Pađen also threw in a couple from his days back in Azra (restlessness and passion, what to do). From Valjak, they played ballroom doll, and from Film, they did film sing ZO dawn—he even made sure to mention Leiner from Cleveland, who he used to play with in Azra, noting that while Leiner isn't in the music scene anymore, he's a talented artist (a sculptor). As a tribute to Leiner, they played 'girl in a summer dress' and 'Fa-fa-fa,' since Leiner was on drums for those tracks. (The audience was chanting: Boris, Boris!).

For a few songs, he even picked up a harmonica, and throughout the night, Pađen swapped between lead and rhythm guitar. We also heard a cover of a track from godfather (it sounded great), and during 'Lift Me High,' they blended in 'Suzanne' (same rhythm, both were upbeat, bouncy tunes). He shared some vocal duties with the bassist, Tomislav.
(I have to say, the bassist was easily the most playful guy on stage—constantly moving around and just clearly having a blast.)

"People used to write letters, but now it's all emails... So many of our people are forced to move away for work, to Ireland or Germany, and they stay in touch with family through email and social media," Jurica said while introducing the song Fratello.
(I kind of appreciated how he showed some sensitivity toward the current socio-economic situation and how people are actually living.)
He didn't forget to toast the residents of Zrinski, since the concert was held in Zrinski city. :-)
"Come see us at a show—or maybe we'll come to you again. Greetings from the Airport in Chicago," Pađen concluded after the encore (Fa-fa-fa, do the right thing).

So, I finally went for that internal medicine checkup. Aside from my blood pressure being a bit wonky, everything else seems fine, I guess. The doctor wants me to dig a little deeper—first, a urine test where I have to collect samples for a full 24 hours and then drop them off, and apparently, it takes about two weeks to get the results back. He also mentioned an ultrasound for my adrenal glands... I think he said something about how maybe 5% of people dealing with high blood pressure actually have some underlying issue involving their kidneys or something related to that area.
The catch is, the waitlist for the actual imaging is a literal year (!) — so yeah, I’m probably going to look into what a private clinic charges just to avoid sitting around forever.
On a brighter note, I’ve started cycling again. Picked up some actual cycling shorts and a jacket—trying to take this a bit more seriously than just casual riding.
Running just isn't really my thing, though.

Health-wise, things are pretty much status quo—basically the same. There are moments during the day where I don't feel great, especially when my pressure spikes, but overall, I'm managing.🙂
Feeling weak and run down in Health ·
Just left the doctor's office. She went over my lab results—turns out my thyroid, which she was a bit worried about, is actually totally fine.
She seemed pretty relieved about that. Also, she thinks my blood pressure is finally settling down and the meds are doing their job. Though, since my bottom number usually sits around 90, she decided to bump up my dosage—going from 5 mg to 10 mg.
Still, we haven't really nailed down the root cause or the specific factors behind everything I've been dealing with.
I have an appointment with my primary care physician on the 24th, so maybe we'll get some actual answers then.
I am feeling a little better, I guess.

But if that helps you out too, then that's great.

Aha, okay. I figured it applied to both of us, since I keep getting suggestions and feedback from folks on this forum anyway.

My blood pressure is normal today—staying under 130, which is fine—it's just my pulse that's creeping over 90 after work (I was on the afternoon shift) and right after eating. It was more or less okay during the day, though I did feel hungry toward the end of my shift, so I grabbed a pastry and a yogurt drink. I'm planning on getting back into cycling soon—had to take a break because of some dental issues, which was a pain. I’m heading to see my doctor on Tuesday to see if there are any new tests they want me to run.
Feeling weak and run down in Health ·
So, I finally knocked out those tests—everything came back looking pretty normal. The OGTT, the HbA1c, and that thyroid ultrasound were all clear. I guess that’s one less thing to worry about, at least for now.
So, I guess that means it isn't really an issue then—or at least, not one we need to sweat over right now.

I don't really know what to make of this—it’s all just kind of a mess, I guess. There isn't much to say without sounding like I'm overthinking things, which I probably am, but whatever. It feels like we're just circling the same drain, maybe? Not that anyone is actually going anywhere, though. Just my two cents, I suppose. kaže:
Did any of the doctors happen to bring up Orthostatic Hypotension?
Orthostatic Hypotension - National Organization for Rare Disorders So, I was just scrolling through some info from the National Organization for Rare Disorders regarding Orthostatic Hypotension—you know, that whole thing where your blood pressure decides to take a sudden vacation the moment you stand up too fast—and it got me thinking about how much we all just gloss over these weird physiological glitches. It’s one of those things where you feel like you're dying for a split second, maybe a bit dizzy or lightheaded, and then you just sit back down and pretend everything is fine, even though your body basically just threw a tantrum. I guess it’s easy to dismiss it as just being "tired" or "dehydrated," but when you look at the actual mechanics of it, it’s kind of wild how much our nervous system has to micromanage just to keep us upright. It’s not exactly common knowledge, either—most people probably think fainting is just something that happens in old movies—but there's actually a lot of nuance to how the body handles those sudden shifts in gravity. Anyway, just a random thought while I was deep-diving into medical jargon this afternoon. Just something to chew on, I suppose.

Looking at the symptoms listed here... I guess it’s hard to say for sure without more context—you know how it goes—but maybe there's something more to it. It feels like one of those things where you start noticing one small thing and then suddenly everything seems connected—which might just be my brain overthinking, though—but anyway, looking at what was mentioned...
The symptom list is... well, it's pretty much everything, I guess. It’s all over the place—you might deal with issues regulating your heart rate or blood pressure, or maybe your body temperature just won't stay steady. Then there's the sweating, too, along with any number of bladder or bowel irregularities. On top of that, you've got the usual suspects like constant fatigue, feeling lightheaded, or those moments where you feel like you're about to pass out—syncope, if we're being technical—plus general weakness and that brain fog or cognitive stuff. It's a lot to juggle, honestly.

So, we're seeing some fluctuations here—specifically with heart rate shifting around (hitting 72, then 85, then 92...) and some changes in blood pressure too. I guess that's all part of it.
I get dizzy—I think it’s pretty normal, honestly—while I'm working, but I don't really deal with any of those other symptoms, like actually passing out or anything.

Maybe... that actually just reminded me of something.
I mean, let’s be real—it’s not like some doctor is just going to spontaneously stumble upon that unless you practically shove it in their face. I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes—you have to be the one to bring it up, or it just stays buried in your file. Experience, I suppose. 😁 )

I guess it really just comes down to how much time a doctor actually wants—or even can—spend with a patient. It’s all about that window of time, I suppose.
So, my doctor was leaning toward the thyroid being the culprit—but, well, given how things are actually looking right now...
That’s not really how it works—or at least, that isn't the case here. If that's the situation, then I guess we probably need to keep looking.
Whatever—I mentioned my issues to the nurse at the clinic, so she suggested I go in for an internal medicine checkup—which is scheduled for the 24th. I’m planning to head over to my doctor’s office tomorrow, assuming I can actually track down my lab results in time, just to see if there are any actual next steps we should take. If not, then Tuesday, I guess. Today was actually pretty decent, mostly... though my blood pressure was running a little high this morning—around 130 over 85, or something like that.
I’ll probably check back in with my evening readings—assuming I don't pass out first. 🙂

Hmmmm

Yeah, when I went to the ER, they told me my blood pressure was basically 'zeroed out,' so, just slightly elevated.
The thing is, I don't feel great—not all the time, mind you, but I get these episodes...
And my heart rate is all over the place, jumping from 72 to over 90 even when I'm just sitting home in front of the TV. So, clearly, something is spiking my pressure.

Kimberly Morris said:So, I’m dealing with insulin resistance, so I’m constantly watching my diet. On top of that, I’ve got hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, a Vitamin D deficiency, H. pylori, and some stomach issues—honestly, I’m terrified of getting a gastroscopy, but I probably have an ulcer or something similar since I threw up blood after taking some Advil.

For the last month or two, I’ve ended up in the ER at least once a week. It starts with this massive dizziness where I completely lose my balance. Then my hands and legs start shaking, my ears start ringing, and my chest feels tight. It’s that weird sensation where you feel like you’re about to pass out, but you don't actually go under. I don't even know how else to describe it.

Every single time, my coworkers basically have to drag me to the ER because they freak out when they see me. When these episodes hit, my face and lips turn deathly pale and I get these dark circles under my eyes. Once I get to the hospital, they run an EKG, check my blood pressure, blood sugar, oxygen levels... everything comes back fine. Then they just send me home to "rest" and choke down more vitamins.

I’m honestly at a loss. Last year, during my endocrine workup, I had every test imaginable: vitamins, minerals, hormones, heart, brain, abdomen... Everything looked perfect.

Part of me thinks it might just be psychological—like panic attacks since I struggle with anxiety—but I don't think anxiety makes your skin and lips turn that ghostly white color.

My symptoms aren't quite that extreme, but it's definitely worrying because this has been going on for, what,
a month now? And yeah, I agree it’s unsettling when your lab results are more or less fine but you still feel like garbage.

I did an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test and an A1C the day before yesterday, and I'm heading to the specialist for a thyroid ultrasound this Friday, so hopefully we'll have some answers then.
My blood pressure is normal today (127/85), though I did feel a bit off at work this morning.
I'll probably check in with my doctor's office about some more tests, just to see what's going on with the pressure.

I actually had a tooth pulled—they squeezed me in ahead of schedule—because I only had enough antibiotics left for a day and a half, and the waitlist at the dental surgery clinic is two months long, so I just got it done at a local clinic instead. It went relatively well—so I'm hoping the recovery
goes smoothly, which would be one less thing to worry about.

I haven't seen anything from sophie7 lately—it’s been a bit quiet on that front, I guess. Maybe they're just busy or taking a breather, who knows? It feels like things have slowed down around here, though maybe I'm just overthinking it. Either way, I'll be curious to see if they pop back up whenever that happens. kaže:
So, you're doing the whole fasting insulin thing—checking it first thing in the morning, then again a few times after you eat. I guess that’s just how the process goes.

Did the IRS even bother looking into your stuff?

I mean, honestly—without some kind of actual research, you aren't getting anywhere. You won't find a breakthrough or a treatment, whether we're talking about a high-tech pill or just a simple glass of carrot juice. It’s all about the investigation, I guess.

So, I’m heading out to do those searches now—you know, the Tuesday and Friday thing. Honestly, it’s been kind of a drag lately... I haven't really felt anything quite like this before, I guess.

Honestly, I’m basically a walking zombie right now because of this iron deficiency anemia... I can barely manage to haul ten steel beams without feeling like I'm about to pass out—I could honestly fall asleep standing up, and my focus is just totally shot. I’ve been cycling through Heferol and Steel Dynamics supplements for a while—taking one for a few months, then switching to the other for a bit—and it seems to work for a while. My iron levels get back to a decent spot, everything feels okay for a couple of months, and then—bam—it drops again, so I'm right back to taking more Steel Dynamics and starting the whole cycle over.
I’m feeling totally wiped out again—just dizzy, barely able to keep my eyes open, and my hair is thinning out... so I''m guessing I've hit that anemia phase once more. I probably need to head over to the local clinic and get some bloodwork done.

I don't really have those physical limitations—I can still ride my bike, handle all those stairs, and keep up with the heavy lifting at work without an issue... It’s just that I feel pretty lousy overall. I guess I just feel weak.

Larry Diaz4 said:Look, when I say I don't eat vegetables, I mean things like Brussels sprouts, beets, asparagus, spinach, and stuff like that. You know, the cooked, steamed, or fried kind... just tossed in as some casual side dish. Honestly? It’s just bland to me! Now, a green salad is fine because it actually makes the meat taste better. But bananas, apples, and all that fruit stuff? No thanks...
Are you really going to count a little bit of lettuce in a kebab 🤦 or some onions on a burger
as "eating vegetables"? Or maybe squeezing a little lemon over some fried chicken counts as getting your Vitamin C? 🤔

All I care about is being productive and not feeling like my body is constantly dragging me down. That's it. That's the whole goal. Because when you're in pain, you just can't get anything done.

Sorry if my food definitions aren't surgically precise. 🙂

I mean, I think you’ve basically locked in on one single goal—finishing your degree—and just funneled everything into that. It feels like you're kind of sidelining your health in the process... maybe? Just a thought.
Will it actually pay off in the end? I mean, I guess we'll see—it’s hard to say for sure right now.
And then there's what this fellow forum member had to say:

I guess you could call them the stragglers—the ones always bringing up the rear. kaže:
Yeah.

So you don't want to actually see a doctor or go through all those tests—and then there's the whole thing about not wanting to touch your diet or take any pills, either. I guess that's one way to handle things... maybe. 🤔 What else should you maybe try... I guess getting out in the sun for like thirty minutes whenever you can might help—it's good for Vitamin D, and honestly, it helps with depression too. Maybe give that suggestion from post 27 a fair shot for a few weeks or so, just to see if there's actually any effect.

Honestly, I think that fellow student probably needs to change things up a bit—just a thought.
Everyone I just can't. It’s starting to happen... I guess. Or maybe it isn't. It feels like things are finally shifting—though, honestly, it's hard to tell if it's actual progress or just us all collectively losing our minds again. One moment everything seems steady, and the next, you realize the ground has moved under your feet. I don't know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it—typical me, I suppose—but it feels like a change is definitely in the air. I guess I can. If you just take out that "no," someone might say... I guess. ☕

So, I’ve been dealing with this absolute nightmare of a toothache since May 1st—just constant, throbbing pain that won't quit. It's been pretty brutal, honestly. And the kicker? My dentist supposedly fixed it up, only for the pain to come roaring back the very next day. Just my luck, I guess.
And so it begins... I figured I’d just pop an Advil and call it a day—you know, thinking it would just pass. Big mistake. By the second day, things actually felt worse. Now I’m sitting here looking at two, maybe three tablets. Just one more pill...
The pain lasts maybe three or four hours before it just hits again—it feels like something is literally drilling inside my tooth. I’ve been reading the labels on Tylenol and Advil, and of course, it says
you shouldn't go over three or four doses. Well, I’m already pushing five or six. I actually missed my dentist appointments twice—once because I mistakenly thought they had shorter afternoon hours, and another time just because I showed up way too late. I finally went to the clinic on a Saturday, hoping the doctor could
fix things then. She gave me some local anesthesia and tried to pull the tooth, but honestly, between the sleepless nights and just being completely wiped out, I couldn't make it through until the
end, so she had to stop. She gave me a referral for oral surgery to get those three or four problematic teeth pulled and prescribed an antibiotic.
I started the antibiotic, but it didn't really kick in until the second afternoon, so I guess I was basically suffering through everything until then. I wasn't sure if it was better to
just toss and turn in bed without sleeping or try to push through work with this kind of pain. When you're sent from the ER to an on-call dentist
(which is impossible since you can't even drive when you feel this nauseous), you call them up, only to find out they're on vacation, or they transfer you to another line where nobody
ever picks up, and so on.

Regarding the actual topic I started this thread with, there were two times where my blood pressure spiked above 140, and the main symptom was
this intense heat in my head—kind of like how you feel after a hard run (ears glowing red), so I suppose I should mention that symptom during the checkup.
I slept for about 3 or 4 hours this afternoon just to try and catch up on the two nights of sleep I lost.

Anyway, that's the update for now.

Larry Diaz4 said:Let me know what’s going on because I’m curious too. I’ve been dealing with this constant weakness for a while now. Sometimes it feels psychological—you know, when I’m feeling down and that heavy mood just washes over me, I can recognize it.
But then there are times where it’s definitely not mental. Like, whenever the weather shifts, I am absolutely wiped out. Literally, I can’t even walk; I have to lie down and crash for two hours just to feel human again. I actually fell asleep on a bench at a local park once, and honestly, I don't even remember how 😱. Sometimes it feels like my heart is barely beating, or my breathing gets all shallow. I get pale as a ghost sometimes—even my orthodontist commented on how rough I look... and my grandma was like, "Honey, you look terrible. What is wrong with you?"
I went for blood work and a urine sample a few days ago, and everything came back totally fine.
The weight comes back so slowly; it takes months just to put on 2 or 3 pounds—and then right before finals week, I lose it all. At 5'10", I'm barely hitting 130 lbs.🙂 And everyone keeps giving me grief about it. It's annoying as hell...
I had a quick heart checkup once. I ramped up my workouts way too fast, and they caught something during a routine physical. It seemed okay at the time, but they said I should follow up occasionally (though I haven't really gone back since)
Because man, it is awful when you feel this total exhaustion and you just can't function. My ears start ringing, I get this sharp pain in my rebro, and I get so dizzy that looking at the floor makes me feel like I'm high or something—walking becomes a struggle because you aren't steady on your feet. You start sweating and feeling totally disoriented. Actually, when I went in to get a wisdom tooth pulled, I turned white as a sheet; I couldn't even stand up. Two nurses had to practically carry me, and they had to put me on oxygen. Everything went white in front of my eyes, and I seriously thought—finally, I'm dead. 🤣

You are literally helpless, like you have zero control over your own body.

I eat a lot of salty stuff. Not much sugar, though—except for some Cola 😬 So, no cookies or pastries or anything like that.
I stay pretty active. Probably going to be doing even more out in the sun soon.

I got recommended for a bunch of different tests, but if I actually show up at my primary care doctor and say, "Hey, someone told me I need all this and that," I think the doctor would probably faint from the sheer number of referrals she'd have to write. We're talking tongue checks (because it gets weirdly cratered sometimes), thyroid tests because of the weight issues, blood pressure since they think it's too low, then the heart stuff again, and an eye exam every single year. But honestly, I just don't have the luxury of spending all that time at the doctor right now.

Luckily enough, weather changes don't really mess with me—I guess I'm just built that way. The only thing that actually gets to me is the heat, specifically those stifling, humid days where there isn't even a hint of a breeze to break it up.

It’s just... honestly, it sucks when you hit that wall where you feel completely wiped out—like, total physical exhaustion where you can't get anything done. It’s a pretty rough feeling, I guess.

You’re basically powerless—it's like you don't even have control over yourself.

I can still get things done—it’s just that I have to scale back a bit and move at a slower pace, I guess. I also find that on top of my main breaks, I probably need to squeeze in another one or two five-to-ten minute stretches here and there just to keep going.
I'm trying to drink more water—or maybe just stick to more Coca-Cola. I guess we'll see how that goes.

So, I got recommended a few different tests, but honestly, if I actually walk into my primary care doctor's office and tell them—you know, like, "hey, people told me I should get this done and that done"—I feel like the nurse would just hit me with a stack of five or six different referrals. It’d probably start with a speech pathologist because my articulation can be a bit... let's say "rugged" sometimes—then they'd likely suggest an ultrasound for my thyroid since I've been feeling heavy lately, then maybe some blood pressure stuff because they think it's bottoming out, then heart stuff, and I'd probably end up at the ophthalmologist too, since I go there every single year anyway. I mean, I just don't exactly have the luxury of spending all day sitting in waiting rooms right now.

Look, you should probably just try to get organized. I mean, there’s no way you can tackle every single check all at once—that's just not realistic—but maybe you could just start somewhere? Just pick one thing and go from there, I guess.
So, I’ve got my appointments lined up for next week—Tuesday and Friday. I already cleared things with my boss at work, so I'm taking Friday off entirely. As for Tuesday, since that appointment is scheduled for the morning, I’ll just head into the office in the afternoon instead. I guess that works out okay, maybe.

Right now, my biggest issue is this toothache. It’s constant—just a steady, nagging throb. I started popping some Advil yesterday since there was no stopping it, but I had this idea—maybe it was a bad one—that the effects would wear off sooner in the afternoon, so I skipped a dose. Then today, I actually missed my morning dose because I was running late, but...
They said I could swing by tomorrow—Saturday. I actually have an appointment scheduled for two weeks from now, but honestly, if that tooth is giving you constant trouble, just go ahead and get it looked at... maybe. Hope it feels better.
Maybe I'll actually deal with this mess tomorrow—fingers crossed. Taking the pills doesn't really fix anything, it just... mutes it, I guess? It’s more like a temporary hush rather than an actual solution. And honestly, I've already had enough of it today.
So, looking at the third dose—according to the instructions, the sweet spot is somewhere around 3 to 4 tablets. Each one is 600 mg, so that puts the max at 1,800 mg... though I think if I remember reading the fine print correctly, you can push it up to 2,400 mg a day in extreme cases. Anyway, I guess that means I probably need to take another one before hitting the sack tonight.

steelwalker26 said:Larry Diaz4, what’s your HbA1c looking like? From what you're saying, this sounds like iron-deficiency anemia to me.
The best natural sources are red meat, organ meats, eggs, leafy greens, legumes, and fish.
Pair those with something high in Vitamin C to actually help with absorption.
And quit drinking Col; it just blocks your body from absorbing essential minerals. A natural lemonade (loaded with Vit C!) is a much better swap—just sweeten it however you want.

Larry Diaz4 said:I’d love to, really, but honestly? That might be the last bit of joy I have left in this life. And man, it's hard to let go... I know it's bad for me, but I just love it too much. It's like—I don't even touch coffee, or cigarettes, or booze.
I have no clue what the number actually is. I just don't have the luxury of time to go see a doctor right now, at least not until May 7th.
I don't eat any veggies. As for fruit? I can't even bring myself to slice it up because of my glucose monitor. It’s mostly just chicken and potatoes. Everything is fried in grease or oil—nothing except French fries.
On top of all that, I’ve been feeling pretty low mentally, and honestly, the last ten days have been even harder because of it.
I don't take any pills. Well, except for some Klavocin I had to take for an ear infection after ending up in the ER...
The weight is dropping again.

I can't believe I've fallen this far. I went from working out every single day and winning medals to being a total wreck physically. A dog could practically chew me up.

I finally cut out the sodas. First off—they just make me feel bloated, like my stomach is constantly full of air. Second, they’re honestly too much for me—kind of an overwhelming hit—and third, once you actually start feeling... well, you know.
(pointing at that tooth of yours that’s already acting up) if you actually believe that carbonated stuff eats away at your enamel—you know, like, totally destroys the tooth—then I guess you have to ask yourself why you're still drinking it in the first place.
With Col and stuff like that, you’re really just dumping sugar into your system—it doesn't actually quench your thirst, I guess. Even the standard sparkling waters—you know, like Perrier or those other big brands—always felt a bit too aggressive for me... maybe it's just me. I ended up picking up some Mivela (the red one) because the carbonation is way lighter, and honestly, it hits the spot. Might be worth a shot if you're looking for something else.
Sometimes I'll go with bamboo—I guess.

I came across this YouTube video a while back—it’s actually pretty educational if you think about it—where some guy pours two liters of sparkling soda into a pot and just lets it boil away. He basically kept cooking it until all the water evaporated, leaving nothing but this thick, brown sludge at the bottom... I guess it's just concentrated sugar and caramel or whatever additives they dump into those drinks. There are actually a bunch of other videos out there doing the exact same thing. Here’s one:
Link

White coffee without any sugar—honestly, it tastes pretty mediocre—but I finally decided to cut the sweetener out of my routine ever since these issues started popping up.
My own little struggle, I guess—if I mix my cappuccino with regular coffee, it actually tastes better since the cappuccino has a bit of sugar in it. It’s a weird thing to fixate on, maybe, but there you go.

I don't really do vegetables. And fruit? Honestly, I can't be bothered to slice it up—too much effort with my gadgets and all that. It’s mostly just chicken and potatoes for me. Everything is cooked in fat or oil... well, except for fries, obviously.

Maybe you're running into those issues because your diet is a bit too one-dimensional—I mean, your body might just not be getting all the nutrients it actually needs to function properly, I guess. 🤔
I think one of the guys on here mentioned something along those lines—it's a fair point, I guess. Anyway, I figured I’d throw in a few of my own suggestions.
When it comes to fruit—I mean, you’ve got blenders, right? You can just toss a bunch of different fruits in there and whip up a smoothie—but honestly, they don't always turn out looking that great.
It looks like—well, I guess the flavor really just comes down to whatever you decide to throw in there. You can pretty much find any combination of fruit that hits the spot for you—whether it's...
Bananas, apples, pears... or whatever else you're into. I guess I don't eat nearly enough fruit myself either.

When it comes to veggies... I’m all about salads—you know, like a good green salad, potato salad, mixed greens, beet salad... that kind of thing. The only thing I can't stand is kale.
Whenever I have beans, I usually make sure to toss in at least one tomato—or maybe some cucumbers or bell peppers—just to have a little salad on the side, I guess.
I don't necessarily need meat to be the centerpiece of a meal—I could probably just get by on nothing but potato salad or a bean salad if I really wanted to.

So, I recently ordered this vegan tortilla at a restaurant—not that I’m actually a vegetarian or anything, mind you—just a veggie tortilla paired with a side salad. It was actually pretty good, I guess.

Well, look, maybe try tweaking those eating habits a little bit. If you’re already going out of your way to grab a sugary soda—I mean, why even bother?—you might as well pick up a couple of pounds of fruit and some veggies while you're at it. Just a thought, I guess.

So, I scheduled some scans at the clinic (kidney ultrasound) and they suggested I get an OGTT and my HbA1c checked too
sometime next week. All the tests together should run about seventy-five bucks or so.
The week has been a bit of a mixed bag, I guess. Work was kind of rough during certain stretches today—just one of those days—but things felt better
once I got home. That is, until this tooth I’ve been getting fixed started acting up again, so now I have to deal with the dentist too. I cut my bike ride down to just thirty minutes because of the toothache, and now I’m just getting ready to crash.
That's about it. 🙂

steelwalker26 said:And this part is crucial:
supplement with extra multivitamins and minerals. Watch your meal timing. Cut back on carbs—specifically sugar and starches—and swap them out for leafy greens, healthy fats, and moderate amounts of protein.

Regarding that meal rhythm—if you start digging into the research on insulin resistance, you'll see the consensus is to stop snacking constantly. It means sticking to three steady meals composed of low-glycemic foods, and absolutely nothing in between.

I guess I'll be watching what I eat more closely from now on. I might occasionally toss in some effervescent vitamin tablets—mostly just Vitamin C, I suppose.

Douglas Grant26 said:Exactly. Those symptoms aren't even related to diabetes or insulin; it's just sending him down the wrong path. What was stated correctly is that meals should have a lower GI to prevent those massive sugar spikes and insulin surges. Generally, you're looking at five smaller, low-GI meals rather than just three big ones.

Since he doesn't have high blood pressure, didn't mention excessive thirst or frequent urination as main symptoms, and hasn't lost significant weight, he likely doesn't have a diabetes issue. But if he really wants to rule it out, he should test his blood sugar while fasting and after eating. If it were an insulin or sugar issue, he'd definitely see problems right after a meal...

So, my doctor thinks it might be a thyroid issue—though the folks over at the ER told me it wasn't exactly an emergency. I mean, okay, maybe it isn't "life-threatening" right this second, but I’ve had those episodes two or three times now where I just felt completely wiped out—just pure exhaustion and weakness—so that’s why I decided to post about it here.
Just sharing my own little situation here—I guess blood pressure is one of those things where everyone reacts differently. Like, maybe one person handles a jump to 135 or 140 without blinking, while someone else might feel like the world is ending. It really seems to vary from person to person, I suppose.
I guess we’ll definitely need to dig a little deeper and run some more tests—it's probably worth looking into further.

Jacob Sullivan91 said:Where are you even getting that from? Because over at Mayo Clinic they told me the exact opposite... honestly, eating smaller, more frequent meals is the only thing keeping my blood sugar steady (since it drops because my insulin is spiked too high). I really think he should go talk to an actual specialist. People online post whatever random theories they have about treating IR and diabetes, and half of it isn't even sustainable...

@Jose Edwards16 what was your fasting FEC like?

What exactly is FEC?
I just went in for some routine blood and urine work—nothing major—and I've listed the results here (just those four or five values that seem a little off).

From what I gather, there are actually different kinds of diabetes out there—Type 1, Type 2, and then that Type 3 thing. I’m honestly not entirely sure if you're supposed to follow specific diets depending on which type you're dealing with, or if it's all more or less the same approach. Maybe there are nuances I'm missing, I guess.
So... these diseases? I mean, what are we actually talking about here? It’s all a bit vague, isn't it—just one big, messy question mark. Maybe it's just the way things go sometimes, I guess. Or maybe there's more to it. Who knows?

Started doing some light biking and walking through the nature trails today—maybe for an hour or two. It wasn't really that strenuous, I guess. My blood pressure ended up being pretty normal this evening, around 125/85.
I've been sticking to veggie stuff lately—oatmeal, salads, even a vegan tortilla loaded with veggies. The thing is, I feel hungry again almost immediately after eating. It’s kind of a cycle.
Tomorrow will probably be fish night.

As for follow-ups—I’m going to try emailing the clinic because getting them on the phone is basically impossible; the line just keeps ringing busy.

Things are feeling relatively okay. At work, I only had those brief moments in the morning where I felt a bit off, but I managed to get through my shift normally.
I did mention to them that this is happening more frequently, so they're aware. I think some of them realized it wasn't just a one-off fluke
where I happened to feel bad once, but rather a recurring pattern.

Thanx for the advice. I'll check back in when I have updates.👍

steelwalker26 said:Based on your weight, lab results, and symptoms, it’s pretty clear you're dealing with insulin issues. Simply adding more small snacks to your main meals isn't going to fix that problem.

Well, I guess that was just the one thing I actually tried changing in my situation.
Nobody has brought up insulin yet—though, in my chats with doctors, I did mention feeling weak sometimes, or getting hit by this sudden, intense hunger right after I eat. That’s kind of why I finally decided to post about it here... I feel like I've been spinning my wheels for two weeks now without a clear diagnosis, while my health just fluctuates. I appreciate the input, though. 🙂

So, basically: stay active (gym, walking) and get more testing done.

Alright, so here’s what came back from the blood and urine tests done on April 11th.
I’ll just list the numbers that are slightly off—nothing too crazy, I guess, but still worth noting:
- Basophil granulocytes 1.3 (supposedly should be between 0-1)
- Total cholesterol 5.7 (ideally closer to 5)
- HDL cholesterol 1.3 (ideal is 1)
- Calculated LDL cholesterol - 3.8 (should be under 3.0 ideally)
- Free triiodothyronine ft3 5.3 (range is usually 2.9 to 4.9)
- Vitamin D - 26 (target is 75 - 250, I suppose)
