analoggull16 said:Could be anemia, or perhaps some cardiac issues? Have you had an EKG or an echocardiogram yet?

Back at the ER again today—just for the hell of it, I guess. They ran an EKG and everything came back fine, which is... well, fine. No big deal, I suppose.
The doctor said everything was fine and nothing to worry about—not exactly serious, according to her—but I still felt pretty lousy regardless.
I was honestly kind of baffled by how crappy I could feel when most of my labs were coming back totally fine—aside from my blood pressure being a little high, I guess.
I don't have any chest pains or anything—it's not like I'm having trouble climbing stairs or going for a bike ride, either.

steelwalker26 said:Looks like you're hitting the early stages of insulin resistance—basically prediabetes.

Start hitting some extra multivitamins and minerals. Watch your meal timing like a hawk. Cut back on the carbs—I mean both the pure sugar and the heavy starches—and swap them out for leafy greens, healthy fats, and just moderate amounts of protein.
Force yourself to walk every single day, but don't just stroll; vary your pace. You need at least thirty minutes, though forty-five is the sweet spot.

To track those baseline levels (which you’ll definitely need later to see if this is actually working), go get an OGTT and an HbA1c test done. Check this out for prep:

Thanx for the advice—I guess I'll just give my local clinic a call and see if they actually offer those tests before I bother making an appointment.
Maybe it’s a diet thing—I mean, whenever I actually manage to eat something, I feel hungry again almost immediately. It’s a bit weird, I guess.
So, I've started eating more small snacks between my main meals—just little things here and there, I guess.

Douglas Grant26 said:Check thyroid hormones first, then look into H. pylori.
I felt exactly the same way for over a year—just zero energy, like I had no blood in my veins. Every single test came back perfect until gastritis developed; that was the only real indicator of pain besides the exhaustion.

It’s not like I’m feeling anything super dramatic, but yeah—I am definitely feeling some weakness. It’s just weird because, looking back at this past week, I was able to get through my work tasks without any issues at all.
Just getting through my tasks at work—keeping things at a slightly slower pace today, I guess—and maybe grabbing a few snacks in between.

Thanx for all the advice, everyone—I'll let you know once I have some actual news (probably in a day or two, since my doctor is working the afternoon shift this Tuesday, so...)
I guess I'll probably end up heading back there again sometime soon.
Feeling weak and run down in Health ·
Hey there. I’m just quickly scanning through the topics here—and since I don’t actually have a "solid" diagnosis yet—and because I’ve been feeling a bit off lately, I decided to start this thread. I’d appreciate any advice you guys might have. I’ll try to be as detailed as possible about what's going on.

So, it all started around the second week of this month (April)—I just started feeling unwell, specifically weak.
In what sense, though? Weak or unwell? It’s a little hard to pin down, really—but roughly speaking, it’s like I’m just exhausted or drained (not to an extreme degree, mind you). I’m not getting dizzy, I’m not passing out, nothing hurts, and I can still get my work done at the office (even if I have slowed my pace down a bit). This started happening in the mornings (and I make sure to eat breakfast every day).
When I feel this way, I’ll take a little break at work—just sit down for a bit—and then eat something else, like a sandwich, some pastry, or maybe grab a yogurt drink, some juice, or water. It’s not like I feel better immediately after eating, but I grab something just to try and replenish my energy, I guess. And, well, that "off" feeling lasts for a while; it doesn't just vanish instantly. That sensation of weakness or feeling poorly also shows up when I get home, sometimes right before bed—even though I’m sleeping pretty well, more or less.

I went to see my doctor and explained everything. She checked my blood pressure (it was 130/90) and told me I should keep monitoring it daily at home.
We also did some blood and urine tests—most of the results were fine, except they found I'm low on Vitamin D, so she prescribed some Vitamin D supplements—and since you synthesize that from sunlight through your skin, she suggested I spend more time outdoors. My doctor mentioned it might be a thyroid issue, so she gave me a referral for a scan, but I'll be waiting two or three months for that.

As for the blood pressure (which I've been tracking for three weeks now), it fluctuates. Usually, it sits around 130/90, but it can spike up to 145/94—
and it can also dip to 122/80, which I think is considered "normal." Heart rate: somewhere between 72 and 85 bpm.
The doctor prescribed Prylar 5 mg to help lower my blood pressure, noting that it would take about
a week of taking it to really kick in. According to the instructions, the medication works by "reducing substances that can raise blood pressure and dilating/relaxing the blood vessels to make it easier for the heart to pump blood." Just one capsule a day in the morning.
For now, I can say the symptoms I described are the same as they were before starting the meds—so, I guess I just have to wait and see. Yesterday, for instance, I had 130/84 in the morning and 142/87 in the evening when I was feeling pretty lousy.
This morning it was 133/82.

Regarding my diet, I haven't used salt or pepper on my food in a long time. I've been eating less meat for a while now, though I wouldn't call myself a vegetarian—if I like what I'm eating (ground beef, chicken, etc.), I'll eat it. I don't like pork. Sometimes I'll have fish or calamari—and I enjoy meatless meals too, like oatmeal or lentil soup.
I don't smoke, and I don't drink (not even coffee, except for a sort of "white coffee" in the morning).
I'm 37, weighing 91 kg, and standing 175 cm tall based on my last checkup at the clinic.

Right now, I’d describe how I'm feeling as... mediocre. Not terrible, but certainly not great.

I've actually gone to the ER twice. I explained the symptoms, they checked my blood pressure and heart, and once they even gave me an IV for a bit. They concluded it wasn't anything too serious and sent me back to my primary physician (who is the one I eventually saw).
I should mention that I haven't experienced anything like this before, and I'm not the type to run to the doctor for every little thing, but this is definitely worrying me.

Also, I'm not having any delusions or hallucinations; I can drive just fine (just short trips between work and home).
Furthermore, I've concluded that none of this seems related to my job—because whether it's a "light" workday (like early in the week) or an intense one (over the weekend), I still feel bad once or twice a day (in the morning, during the day, or when I get home).

My friends and coworkers joke that it's probably just a lack of sex, but it's not like I'm constantly in a bad mood or anything. Maybe it's the blood pressure, maybe the thyroid... Does anyone have any other advice, ideas, or suggestions...?
Thanx!

fadedorca66 said:I don't know, smells like a dying power supply to me if it’s an older unit. Capacitors tend to lose their juice over time, which leads to this kind of nonsense (happened to me a few times, actually). Especially since you mentioned it gets more stable the longer it runs—that's a classic sign of a capacitor heating up and temporarily regaining some capacity. Maybe try swapping in a different PSU, or you could just crack this one open and see if any capacitors look bloated.

Well, the PC is about 5 years old—though, I guess, nobody really knows the exact lifespan of a power supply, or how long one can run before things go sideways...

William Richardson12 said:Looks like either a corrupted hard drive with busted OS files or your RAM is dying... seeing this many different errors at once is usually a bad sign. 😲

Try running a scan with WhoCrashed and let's see if it can actually make sense of this mess.

Usually, at the very end of the right-hand column, ntoskrnl.exe pops up, which is:
ntoskrnl.exe (Short for Windows NT operating system kernel,) also known as kernel image, provides the kernel and executive layers of the Windows NT kernel space, and is responsible for various system services such as hardware virtualization, process and memory management, thus making it a fundamental part of the system. It contains the cache manager, the executive, the kernel, the security reference monitor, the memory manager, and the scheduler.

And hal.dll
Hal.dll
The Windows hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) is implemented in Hal.dll.[1] The HAL implements a number of functions that are implemented in different ways by different hardware platforms, which in this context, refers mostly to the chipset. Other components in the operating system can then call these functions in the same way on all platforms, without regard for the actual implementation.

Like I said earlier, MemTest says the RAM is fine—and instead of an old hard drive, I'm using a newer SSD.

The power supply is a 550.

The setup is: an AMD Athlon processor, a Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H motherboard...
BSOD, black screen, random restarts... help! in Desktops ·
So, I'm dealing with this constant headache:
- the screen goes black (and then everything freezes—like, totally unresponsive—or the whole thing just restarts)
- it mostly happens when I'm browsing the web (and I'm pretty much always online) — though, honestly, it also happens when the PC is just sitting there idling with nothing running
or if I'm just listening to music, for instance.
- this happened back when I was using my old hard drive and a different version of Windows—now I've switched to an SSD and Windows 7, and yeah, it's the exact same story.
- there’s no real pattern to it—I could spend five minutes on Facebook and it might reboot, or maybe half an hour—then again, some days it works perfectly fine.
- sometimes I get a blue screen, other times it just dies without warning.

I've been trying to troubleshoot this by digging through Google. So far, here's what I've tried:
- ran a memory test overnight—everything came back clean.
- cleaned out all the dust from the case—so overheating isn't the culprit (I'd go as far as to say the PC actually seems more stable after running for a while, even with the heat we're having lately!).
- tried swapping RAM sticks, testing them one at a time—same result.
- I thought maybe it was a browser issue—but it doesn't matter if I'm using Chrome, Mozilla, or Opera.
- I once opened a ton of tabs—maybe fifty or so, just random stuff—and everything worked flawlessly, no freezing
or restarts—basically, there are days when everything runs without a hitch.
- most of the advice I find online boils down to this: install certain updates, and if that fails, just revert to your old settings.
settings.

But, I mean... I feel like we should probably figure out what's actually causing this first. Like, why is it happening? If this was happening with my old drive and my old OS, and now it's happening again, then an update or a reinstall isn't going to fix it. We need to find the actual root cause (I guess I'm not quite "tech-savvy" enough to pinpoint it myself).

You might want to hit up some old-school used bookstores—specifically the ones that buy vinyl—or maybe just find a dedicated record shop:

I guess the best way is to just email them a list of what you've got—see if they’re actually interested, anyway—and ask for a ballpark figure on what they'd pay.

- I’ve never really been one for popularity, and I guess I don't quite grasp what that actually means. Popularity probably comes from the catalog, the songs, and all that—certainly not from me, since I'm neither young nor particularly easy on the eyes.🤣 People always seem to claim I’ve done a ton of duets. In reality, I think I've done the fewest, but that album Frankie and Friends featuring Paul Simon, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, and several others, turned out to be quite a success—pretty much every track became a hit. It seems people genuinely enjoy my music, which I suppose is the whole secret to making it.

New forum rules: No thongs, no boobs... not funny! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
So, first off, our Funny photo 2 thread just vanished into thin air—and after spending a few days playing detective to figure out where it went, we finally caught wind that it was nuked because someone decided to drop some new rules on us.
Just so we’re all clear—our moderator, William Myers7, isn't exactly thrilled about these new rules either (if you can even call them rules instead of just straight-up restrictions). But apparently, some Obergruppenführer just woke up one day, totally unprovoked, and decided he needed to enforce some incredibly virtuous little policies over on the jokes forum.

Just a heads-up—pornography isn't allowed here. That means no explicit images or GIFs showing genitals, and obviously, no actual sex acts either. I guess we'll just keep things PG-13 around here.
I guess I should probably weigh in here—though I’m not sure if anyone actually cares about my take on this. Looking at what Jose Edwards16 said... it’s interesting, I suppose. Maybe. It feels like we’re just circling the same drain we always do, isn't it? Anyway, regarding that whole situation with the HRT Ethics Committee—if you can even call it that—it seems like they're just trying to save face. It’s kind of a joke, really. They act like they have some moral high ground, but then you look at how things actually function behind the scenes, and it's just... well, it's what you'd expect. Not exactly surprising, but still a bit much. I don't know. I might be overthinking it. Or maybe I'm underthinking it. It's hard to tell sometimes when everyone is just shouting into the void. Just my two cents, I guess.

Alright, fair enough. I'm on board with that.

So, just a heads-up—female breasts with visible nipples aren't allowed either. And before you ask, no, there’s no more hiding images or GIFs behind those 18+ content warnings. That's off the table now.
So, apparently, transparent underwear or bras aren't allowed—which, if you look back at point one, basically means you can't have any male or female genitalia showing through. I guess that's just how they're playing it.

Long story short—underwear just doesn't count as a joke. It's really not that deep, I guess.
Also, I guess staring at women's nipples could obviously do some serious damage to everyone's eyesight—not to mention our collective moral compass here on the forum.
So, are male nipples actually allowed? I mean, I guess it depends on the context—like, if we're talking about certain dress codes or whatever—but I was just wondering if there's any actual rule against it. Maybe it’s fine, maybe it isn't... who really knows?🙂 Discrimination, plain and simple. If we’re going to ban women's nipples, then I guess we might as well ban men's too—it only seems fair, right?

Also, just so we’re clear—bare buttocks aren't allowed either—even if they're tucked into a thong, whether you're talking about men or women. I guess that's just how the rules stand.

So, what's the deal with that whole thong rule? I mean, I guess there’s some logic behind it—maybe—but honestly, it just seems a bit much.🤷
Look, I’m all for the bare aesthetic—I get that—but I honestly don't see why people are getting worked up over a little lace or some thongs. It's not that deep, I guess.
A Boratov costume? I mean, is that actually allowed or is it totally off-limits?

Just a heads-up—no erotic images or GIFs allowed. I don't care if you think they're subtle or that they don't technically violate points one, two, or three... let's just not go there.

It’s a pretty "flexible" rule—if you can even call it that—which makes it incredibly vague and, honestly, highly debatable. I guess you could interpret it however you wanted, which means anyone could apply it to just about anything depending on their mood.

So, apparently, any hint of anything erotic is strictly off-limits—which means you could end up facing some kind of penalty or a formal warning. I guess we're playing by those rules now.

This, for instance, leans toward being erotic—just a little kid staring right at Sanja Doležal’s cleavage:
I can't really get into the specifics of what's happening in that video—it's just a link, after all—but I guess if you're looking for my take on whatever content is tucked away there, you might be waiting a while. It’s hard to have an opinion on a blank space, isn't it? Maybe it's some deep, philosophical masterpiece or maybe it's just someone filming their cat in Chicago, but without more context, I'm basically just staring at a URL. If there was something specific you wanted me to weigh in on, I suppose you could let me know... though I can't promise I won't wander off on a tangent about something completely unrelated.

Honestly, that kind of thing shouldn't even be allowed on Vice. Plus, I feel like Sanja needs to be reported to the HRT Ethics Committee—maybe get her suspended for a few months or something—and then they could set some specific terms for her...
So, you spend half a year working your tail off for the greater good—really putting yourself out there and showing what you're made of—only to have the little guy snatched away from his parents? Then they go out and find him some guardian—ideally a priest, because apparently, those guys have a better eye for cleavage than anyone else. I guess that's just how the world works these days.

5. Sensitive or controversial content is allowed, provided you post the image or GIF as a URL and tag it with the Dark Humor label. This applies to jokes based on religion, race, nationality, or similar themes.

It’s the same debatable rule here.

Obviously, nobody is going to be posting hardcore porn on Reddit.
But, why is eroticism such a problem? Take, for instance, a women's soccer match where a player gets caught up in the heat of the game and accidentally pulls her opponent's jersey, revealing her
breasts. Someone posts that clip on Reddit. That isn't promoting anything bad—it's just being shared for a laugh.

But, with rules this rigid, Reddit is probably going to end up feeling pretty empty...

I’m pretty happy—and actually satisfied😁—with how you handled this. You weren't being one-sided or dismissive, which means the thread can probably be unblocked

The title caught my eye (Living with "Forever Alone" Syndrome), so I started reading from the very first post.
This thread is dedicated to all those lonely wolves out there who just don't have the energy to make a big deal out of being single anymore—or more specifically, to anyone who has decided to stop swimming against the current, stop fighting an uphill battle, and just accept their "forever alone" status as a permanent fixture for the rest of their lives.
http://www.example-us-forum.com/showthread.php?t=818186

etc.
The original poster (unloved28) actually set the stage quite well and laid out her reasoning. A discussion starts, the thread grows—it hits five pages...
By the last page, someone manages to provoke the OP (or maybe she just let them get under her skin, I guess) and she responds like this:
I’m not planning on saying anything else, given the malicious provocations that have started popping up here.
Bye.
http://www.example-us-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4...1&postcount=97

...to which the moderator (Matthew Anderson) delivers the final word:
In that case, there’s no need for this thread to exist.
http://www.example-us-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4...&postcount=100

Locked & closed.

The thread was started on March 8th, and it was dead and buried just four days later. 😢

I suspect the moderator might not have considered that the OP wrote her final post in the heat of the moment—out of pure frustration. Maybe—and this is just a thought—after a good night's sleep or a little bit of reflection, she would have jumped back into her own discussion.
Just like everyone else would have kept posting—but now they can't, because it's shut down.

Doesn't every one of us get annoyed when, say, a site goes down due to some server error (like a 503 or 504 error) and after trying to load it a few times, we think:
'Ugh, forget this, I'm never visiting this site again!' Or: 'Fine, I'll come back once they actually fix the servers!' And then... we're right back there...

If there hadn't been any interest in the topic, it probably would have just sunk to the bottom of the forum on its own after a while anyway.

The question is—can a mod make a mistake too? Like, acting too hastily or reacting a bit too reflexively by just shutting the whole thing down...?
No Eurovision this year—so what's Huljić going to do now?
His wife is trying to comfort him, while he just sits there crying...

Neca Falk-Dobro - Everyone is rushing around
It’s that classic trope, isn't it—the song about the girl leaving the countryside for the big city, only to find herself drowning in nostalgia for everything she left behind. It's a mood, I guess. You trade the quiet streets and the open air for the concrete grind of somewhere like Chicago or New York, thinking you've finally "arrived," and then suddenly, the silence of the city feels way too loud. You start missing the small things—the smell of the grass after a storm, the slow pace of life back home—and realizes that the city doesn't really care if you're there or not. It's a bit melancholy, maybe a little cliché, but I suppose that's why people keep writing it. It hits a nerve because, deep down, most of us have felt that tug of wanting to go back to a place that doesn't exist exactly the way we remember it anymore.
