Misunderstanding in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Was I hallucinating today, or did someone actually post about the new rule of the organization and lifting those partial bans for a few users across the entire forum?

Since I'm already here, I just have to say: those partial bans on this subforum are easily the worst thing to ever happen to this place. It’s like painting a giant target right over people's avatars—it's pretty easy to guess how that ends and who gets screwed in the process.

Those users were just venting their frustrations because they couldn't post here, so they took it to other subforums. Now we've ended up with this whole group of disgruntled forum members, and honestly, it's hard not to feel for them.

I am glad the forum leadership finally stepped up to help out at least a handful of people.
Admin duties... in Feedback & Suggestions ·
vividtiger922 said:Dear Administration,

Don't you think it’s a bit extreme to wipe out half a subforum in just a few days?

And for what reason?

Because suddenly, out of nowhere, and without any provocation, things that were perfectly acceptable yesterday have become forbidden... the exact same things you allowed until now, the very same things your hand-picked moderators tolerated, and the very same topics we attempted to discuss calmly, logically, and politely in a thread you prematurely shut down by labeling those rare instances of nonsense as mere "idiocy." And let's be clear—writing nonsense isn't the same thing as being an idiot, so I'll take the liberty of calling your recent decisions pure idiocy. Tyndall, surely that shouldn't be an issue, right?

What's most pathetic, though, is that what you're trying to implement isn't even particularly controversial in itself; you simply lack style, guys. No sense of rhythm, no ear for it... nothing, really.

That’s how they handled things a few weeks—maybe even months—ago when they were redesigning everything and trying to enforce order over at RID.
Over at ZK, they did it slightly more gracefully because the supermod pinned a warning thread right at the top. I think some user from RID actually suggested doing it that way, mostly because a huge crowd of users went ballistic just because she asked why someone got banned.
The mods decided those kinds of questions counted as "questioning moderator decisions," so the whole group of expectant moms and new parents ended up getting banned.
The threads over at KZB were a total mess back then, just like they are now.

But why?

Well, that's a philosophical question, but maybe the forum is just terrified.
The origins of Reddit? in Forum Help! ·
I’m pretty sure there were spammers lurking on the old Reddit too, because if my memory serves me right, Russ was hanging around there.
It felt like everyone back then was way more chill, and the mods didn't go around throwing those damn red cards at everyone.
Sometimes they'd just block an IP address and call it a day. The whole company would spiral for a second because some colleague had these radical views plastered all over the company policy, but things would settle down fast. 😬
We didn't feel like we had to censor ourselves, people weren't nearly as passive-aggressive, and I don't recall anyone writing some formal intro saying they were starting a thread "in agreement with the admin or moderator."
My favorite flamewars were when the regulars would jump on the unauthenticated trolls with lines like, "Register if you actually have the balls."
Honestly, it would be great if you could track down that clone who was posting on that thread about the old IMF. I bet she could actually be helpful.

Nicholas King said:Where on earth did you get the idea that anyone here is looking to hand out punishments?

The OP literally mentions sanctions.
Since I’m clearly flawed and apparently too slow to catch on sometimes, feel free to just tell me I missed the point of your whole thread.
Then there's you—acting all high and mighty about wanting "quality posts" in the opening message, yet you're already predicting your own ban, or even a permanent one.
It's honestly a shame you didn't think to wipe yourself from the database; then instead of having "snob" under your username, you'd have something way more low-class written there.
As you can see, your little fears didn't come true, and it would've been just as well if you'd gone back to your favorite sub-forum earlier—you know, where anyone who knows how to click a mouse and mash a keyboard can find their place in the sun by writing whatever they want, according to their own level of intellect.
And I won't drag this out... welcome back to the site, anyway. You actually managed to write a few decent posts and left behind one top-tier screenshot that some jerk could easily pass off as trolling.
PS
don't bother replying because it's already obvious I've completely misinterpreted something. 😉

Honestly, those two posts being called out in the last thread don't strike me as any kind of actual issue.
I've seen plenty of similar—actually, even stupider trolling comments over on the main boards, so I’m with the captain on this one: we’re way too quick to hand out bans.
Besides, I don't know the captain or any of the moderators here personally, so there shouldn't be any reason to feel entitled to trash "serious" discussions just because of that.
And let's be real, anyone who's been lurking around this sub for the last year knows the OP used to get away with pretty much anything until the moderator strikalica called them out, and then even admin Sash had to step in and ask for some chill.
It’s honestly pathetic that after yesterday’s link and that user getting absolutely torn apart verbally, you guys are already out here hunting for more people to punish.

It’d be pretty damn interesting to hear what the mods actually think before the admin goes and nukes another juicy thread prematurely.
Since we all know how many drunk texts fly around here, maybe we could get some actual info on those permanent bans handed out while people are clearly wasted.
Why shouldn't we be able to Ban users we interact with? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
rustydrifter10 said:I’m honestly just hoping the admins weigh in soon regarding Smizlin's warning and the ban on the very thread she started to complain about them.

I know that sometimes the moderators will step in to explain how long a ban lasts or why someone got a warning, but those are usually just brief explanations—the kind of stuff you can already see right there on the warning itself—and they don't typically get dragged into a whole debate or try to justify themselves to everyone else.

Look, I get it. Mods aren't obligated to sit there and explain every single ban or why someone's post got nuked. They don't owe us an itemized receipt for every decision. But honestly? This constant, excessive power tripping over some guy asking a clumsy question? It’s useless. It doesn't lead anywhere. It just makes everything tense for no reason.

Nicholas King said:At first glance, banning "advocacy" can be easily attacked as "stifling free speech," "trampling on democracy," or those whole "death to fascism, freedom to the people" type of slogans. There are several beloved names that are gone now—and personally, I think it’s a real shame they aren't around anymore—but, I'm honestly not sure if debating that point would serve any actual purpose or provide any real benefit.

I mean, if you really stop to think about it, just imagine the absolute chaos that would ensue if everyone started shouting, "Why did you Ban this person?" or "Why did you Ban that one? They were actually great!" and so on. It would be a total mess.

The only thing more nonsensical than an absolute monarchy when it comes to managing online spaces is pretending to run a parliamentary democracy—because, frankly, that almost inevitably devolves into nothing more than populist anarchy. 🙂

I’ve started threads like that on Reddit before too. Don't you remember? 🙂

Look, the only silver lining here is that you actually managed to learn something from all this chaos. Now, maybe you can take that knowledge and share it with the ladies over on the Recreation subreddit—you know, that peaceful little corner of the internet where people actually try to be nice. 👍

rustydrifter10 said:Let’s be real: you don't just get a permanent ban for breathing wrong. It takes a massive pile of violations—we're talking someone with a huge reputation score—to trigger that kind of hammer. Or, it could be one single, massive violation, like trying to create a clone account while your main profile is already banned.

Because permanent bans aren't handed out left and right, anyone who follows the activity on this Reddit should probably have a pretty good idea of why it happened, since someone facing that level of discipline likely wasn't exactly following the rules.

Just to be totally clear, I have no idea who Bear is or what he specifically did to get banned.

Bear was just a regular user who actually posted useful stuff over in the Recreation section, and honestly, it seems like some of the ladies hanging out there—whether they're posting or just lurking—really miss him.

Smizl is just another user who asked about Bear’s permanent ban, pretty much like how I asked on the general boards why Blue got banned for good.

The only difference? Smizl ended up getting rewarded with 500 points for playing advocate, while I just got a straight answer to my question without any trouble at all.
If you don't believe me, go check out my thread over in the Mod corner of the trash heap; feel free to verify everything I'm saying.

People aren't asking for much, seriously. They just want the rules to apply to everyone equally.

Nicholas King said:Honestly, if I could, I’d send a massive surge of high voltage straight through the Ethernet cable of anyone posting images so huge they warp my entire screen. And look, this isn't even about being some "serious" forum purist.

The same goes for those people posting those obnoxious, oversized ads. Same energy. 🥳

I totally get why you're pissed—I actually took a quick peek at your thread.
🤣 🤣

OT
It would be great if the forum just gave people a heads-up when they try to upload massive images, instead of having other users aggressively reporting names just because they don't agree with them. Then, after the mods ignore the nonsense, they start whining to the admins over at PZK.
The moderators are basically wasting their lives handing out warnings just because newbies haven't bothered to read the rules yet.

Can we get a system to block oversized images, similar to how the site stops you from dumping more than 10 emojis in a single post? 🤔
(You have included 15 images in your message. You are limited to using 10 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again. )

You guys are getting seriously annoying with all these reports about images being over 640 pixels and starting threads that are clearly just meant to mess with people who actually take this forum seriously. 😕

I mean, back in the day, they taught us in school and around the neighborhood that being a snitch isn't the way to go, but apparently, those values are dead and buried if people are opening these totally lame, childish threads without a shred of shame. 😢

Since we're playing that game anyway, I’m reporting this ridiculous, pointless, and completely useless thread to the admin. 👎
