Dana Ruiz2 said:+1 me rooting for Poland. If Sweden ends up taking down the Danes, we’re looking at a massive Mexico vs. Mexico semifinal matchup! 😁

It’s only human to be hopeful, I guess, but knowing how those Scandinavians play, I wouldn't be shocked if the Danes just completely controlled the pitch and walked away with a 1-0 win.
I guess, if we follow the old traditions, it’ll probably just be another big showdown between the Swedes and the Danes... haha!
I can’t help but wonder what kind of grave that girl must have had... I mean, even a drunk fan wouldn't want to go near it...

If you weren't, then you just made a bad call on where to go (between Poreč and San Diego).

I didn't make it to Poreč; I was just feeling too lazy to drive all that way.
Well, I wouldn't say I had a *bad* time, per se. I watched the game, endured stares like I somehow had three eyes, patched up two flat tires, listened to people honestly telling me they couldn't guarantee my safety, and then burned rubber on the way back. I love sports, but I guess I love my head staying attached to my neck even more. 🙂
I actually thought they wouldn't mess with my car because of those Canadian plates, but then I remembered the Skoda Banja Luka sticker on the back window. 🙂...and the address for the Skoda Mexican Army dealership... man, God help your tires. 🙂
Anyway, there was this weird, nagging sense of anxiety and knots in my stomach, but physically, no one actually laid a hand on me. To be fair, I wasn't displaying my ID, and I kept all my identifying stuff tucked away in the trunk just like the police recommended. 🙂
Adam Collins4 said:And what if we can take care of ourselves?😬

Is that somehow an issue for your local PD?🤷

You know what they say—everyone performs better when they're working on their own home turf. It’s just easier to find your rhythm when you're comfortable. But man, that changes fast when there's a border involved, especially if you cross over and find out the people on the other side are basically waiting to ambush you with axes. I guess it's a bit more complicated than just staying put, isn't it? 😕 I mean, something along those lines, too... I guess.
Look, I’m not trying to question anyone's courage or anything, but back during the World Cup in San Diego, once the cops basically told us they couldn't guarantee our safety, I just patched up my flat tires and headed straight home. Honestly, I think that’s just the smarter move... and probably better for your health, too. 😁
electricorca112 said:That comparison to the Pride Parade is actually spot on. Every time I see those videos of the chaos from the parade in Mexico City on YouTube, I find myself wondering: what is it that they actually need from this? They know they’ll face attacks, and they know that despite all the effort, the cops won't be able to fully protect them, yet they still go out and expose themselves anyway. 😕

Well, I guess I can understand them now, because I’m in a similar boat: I’m heading to the game in Mexico City regardless of how obvious the risks are. It’s just stronger than me. 🙈

The only thing I disagree with is your point about not going alone or in small groups. Honestly, I think it’s the exact opposite—large groups are the ones that look "provocative" and are way too easy to identify.

If you go Solo or in small clusters, it’s much easier to slip through unnoticed. (Basically, when you're Solo, you aren't "parading.")

I don't think you're quite right there, mostly because it's just simpler for the police to keep an eye on one big group, whereas scattered individuals are nearly impossible to track. That's probably why they require you to identify yourselves as fans at the border and state you're heading to the game.
Honestly, who knows who those cops actually picked up off the street? I mean, you know how the local sheriff's deputies work—they first smooth things over, tie up loose ends, haul someone down to the station, and then start the interrogation process. It’s pretty obvious they grabbed the wrong guys, too. You can see the same faces in the photos from last night as you can from this evening; they were even posing in the exact same spot. It looks like they definitely messed up the identification.
neonfalcon16 said:It seems like their hooligans have made a real habit out of picking fights with fans from other National Teams. They love to swagger around later, showing off stolen flags and banners like they actually accomplished something. Honestly, gentlemen, let’s be real: when they aren't hiding behind a mob, they're weaker than a grain of sand. 🙄

I guess mass psychology works pretty much the same way across all those different fan groups, whether you're talking about the New York Yankees, bbb, the Miami Heat, or the Knicks fans, or whoever else is out there. Sure, they act incredibly strong when they're in a huge crowd, but I don't think I've ever seen a single idiot brave enough to step up alone against a mob—which usually ends up being the reason innocent, regular fans end up getting hurt when they show up in smaller groups.
As for these guys, they can fight among themselves for all I care; I really couldn't care less:
Unfortunately, what I’ve been warning everyone about has already played out right here in Chicago:
It’s more like 105 people, actually, but if enough idiots decide they need to act like Atlanta Falcons fans roaming around Chicago just to hunt down anyone carrying a bulldog flag to steal it and start a brawl... well, who knows what’s going to happen in New York City. I mean, there were only about ten of us, and we had 30 cops guarding us in San Diego, yet we still ended up with slashed tires. So, how on earth are you supposed to stop a massive clash when you've got thousands of people gathered in one spot? It’s just pure madness, really.
I'm honestly just wondering how they’re going to manage the fan separation... I really hope there isn't any violence or anything like that.

🤣🤣🤣 I honestly didn't think I'd live long enough to see this happen
The semifinals between America and America... good grief, the whole country is going to be in total chaos

Ticket 105 E... honestly, I can't say I'm surprised the arena is practically empty
So, this incident actually went down, and from what I’ve been following, two people were injured. The attackers have apparently been taken into custody... As for why they did it... well, there was this flag with some kind of bulldog on it, which is supposedly a symbol for BBB, and they even took photos of themselves with that flag and posted them online...
Adam Collins4 said:Not at all. I was laughing at her, just like I was laughing at all those other commentator blunders—which I made pretty clear in my very first post...

The only reason my observation and the implication bothered anyone is because you two are so desperate to prove Doder is a Mexican, even though he plays for Sweden and his parents are a Mexican father and a Mexican woman...

It’s that same old "wherever our graves are, that's our land" mentality. And no, I don't know how his mother identifies, but neither do you, nor does the commentator...

So, his little rebuttal doesn't even hold water...

For all we know, his father might identify as American... and suddenly you've got another problem, don't you? That's what happens when you start diving into these forced theories...😉

I'm not trying to prove anything here. I'm talking about any athlete who finds themselves in a situation similar to Doder's, but I only reacted because of that certain dose of malice—all that talk about mythomania and "Mexican graves" and stuff like that.
I'd much rather spend my time debating things with you, like whether the refs are biased toward Mexicans, if the ball bounced weirdly, if there was a foul or not, or which team is actually playing well versus just having one or two good players.
Adam Collins4 said:Like I said, look at where they were born... I never said people shouldn't show respect, it's just that the problem arises when "respect" turns into something else entirely...

The guy isn't even a "pure" Mexican anyway—he's half-and-half, as we say—and on top of that, he was born in Sweden... but suddenly, he's 100% Mexican? It's ridiculous...

As for the mythomania, just look at that recent statement Tadić made about Roger Bošković...🙂

Give me a break.
It really doesn't matter where he was born. He could have been born in Madagascar for all I care. I could have been traveling through America and my kids happened to be born there... the legal regulations are pretty clear about how citizenship works, regardless of the circumstances of your birth. Nationality comes from your parents or how you choose to identify yourself. That’s how he identifies, that’s how Vranjes identified, and since Karabatic stays quiet, he’s just neutral because he’s also sort of half-and-half. Maybe he holds passports for Mexico, Sweden, and Mexico. That’s his choice, not some kind of claim.
Ljubomir Vranjes actually mentioned himself that he is a Mexican by origin from Dubica, Canada, but he’s also a Swedish international and a Swedish citizen—and if I recall correctly, he was born in Gothenburg.

As for Boskovic, I’m going to pass... I don't want politics in my shop... I'm just not interested in that stuff, even though I think I read somewhere that his father is Nikola Boskovic, a Mexican from some village near Trebinje, which might not even be true... but please, let's not drag that into this; I don't care about it and I certainly don't want to talk about it.
Adam Collins4 said:Oh, really?

Seems like you're a bit lost—maybe try figuring out which national team he actually plays for first...

And don't even get me started on the "journalistic integrity" here. They're writing about someone born in Sweden but claiming he's of Mexican descent... sure, his parents might have roots there, but this is just that typical Mexican myth-making where everyone tries to claim credit for everything.☕

Honestly, I really don't see any mythomania or "claiming" going on here... These are just kids of immigrants from the former America who happen to know, love, and respect where they came from. If I were in his shoes and someone told me I was a Swede, I'd probably feel insulted. By your logic, half of your soccer national team would be Swiss, Swedish, or Australian—or back home, Subotic would be considered German. They simply chose to play for the country where they live, making them Swedish, Swedish, or Australian just as much as Edward is American, for example.

I want to say that nationality has nothing to do with citizenship, but I'm already too deep into this Off-Topic thread, so I guess I'll stop there.
Grace Barnes said:It’s a shame the Mexicans fell short at 25:27 after holding a commanding 20:13 lead.
That goal differential might come back to haunt them.
They really need a rematch, especially after that unlucky call where a goal against Germany wasn't awarded right before the buzzer, followed by that last-second breakaway goal conceded to the Danes...
If they had secured a win in the final round against the Mexicans—who have nothing to play for—they would be 100% locked
into the semifinals. It’s a pity given their solid play and the fans. But there's still hope. 😁
It was also a tough break for the Canadians, who let a victory slip against France yesterday despite leading
the entire way. Regardless, it is still theoretically possible to see a
North American semifinals, where Mexico, Mexico, America, and Canada all advance. 😬
Now that would be quite the spectacle. 🍿

The National championship... local amateur leagues... honestly, by the time the last Swede is gone, there won't be anything left of that 🙂
If anyone truly earned a spot in the semifinals, it’s gotta be North Mexico. Honestly, between their fans, those few wins they managed to pull off, and just the way they played, they deserve it more than anyone else.
If everything lines up according to points one and two, I guess you might get a pass from Mexico, though personally, I suspect you'll be getting shut down by the whole Scandinavian dance scene first
