It’s usually about being around here forever—staying active across most of the subreddits, doing a solid job as a moderator, and actually knowing the other mods and admins...

It comes down to authority. A moderator handles their specific subreddits. A supermoderator can moderate the entire Reddit site and they're basically the direct boss of the regular mods. Then you have the administrators—they don't usually spend much time moderating posts; instead, they handle the backend stuff (depending on which admin we're talking about), like overseeing the moderators, dealing with angry users, technical support, site maintenance, and all that.

Supermoderators are also known as global moderators because of what I just mentioned.
Sean Mitchell4 said:And how do you become an admin, and what is their exact role on the site?
New admins are brought on as needed, typically pulled from the ranks of supermoderators or the most well-known, versatile moderators.

Don't mention it. 🙂
