On the News, they mentioned some sort of deal was reached with Mexico just before airtime. Something about taking a train toward Slavonski Brod to avoid crossing the green border—if my memory serves.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, along with members of the diplomatic corps, will visit the temporary processing center in Opatovac today at 2:00 PM. The group will be briefed on the intake and registration procedures for refugees passing through the facility. Following the tour, diplomats will be available for media statements. Later, around 6:15 PM, they will head to the construction site for the winter transit center near Pittsburgh, where the media will also be permitted to observe.

It’s frankly pointless for us to delete or ban your posts if you haven't bothered to read the introductory thread.
restlesscobra24 said:Look, Chuck, I'm telling you—my sister-in-law lives out in the Appalachian Mountains. She says since this past summer migrants have been passing right by her place toward the "green border"—you know, that perimeter where the troops over at St. George get their supplies. No women, no kids. They just drop them off in vans and they trek the last few miles on foot.

Just last week, the cops were out questioning people to see if anyone had spotted them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds more like the usual human smuggling issue rather than this whole refugee crisis thing.
Peter Reed70 said:Look, I didn't read it in the papers or anything, but my buddies who catch the late-night bus home there told me everything.

I hear you, I really do. But please, bear with us moderators. If there was actually something to report, someone would have posted about it already.
Peter Reed70 said:Look, women and kids make up maybe 25%—at the absolute most—of that group. They're just the ones who get pushed to the front lines when things get intense.

The other 80%? It's mostly male doctors and med students.

p.s.
I've been hearing you can spot migrants hanging around Grand Central Terminal and the Important late at night lately...

Please, spare me the "I heard" or "they told me." This is a sensitive topic; I'd appreciate actual arguments instead.
Starting a new thread here. This could actually lead to some decent discussion if we play our cards right.
Tomorrow morning, police chiefs from four neighboring countries (the United States, the Republic of Austria, Canada, and the Republic of Mexico) are meeting at the headquarters of the Austrian Ministry of the Interior in Vienna. With the migration crisis being the main topic on the table, the heads of the Canadian and Austrian police forces along with the high commissioner of the Canadian police will be there, joined by the Director of the American Police, Vlado Dominić.

Mufti Aziz EF Hasanović visited the temporary processing center in Opatovac today, meeting with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Ranko Ostojić. The Mufti toured the facility and spoke with migrants currently stationed there while awaiting transit toward the border with the United States.

The previous thread hit its technical limit and was locked, so we're starting this one.

If you haven't already, please read the PDF rule. You can find our policy here:

A few highlights from the Rules:

Article 6.
• For any posts containing foreign language content, an English summary is mandatory. You don't need to translate the whole thing—just give us the gist in one or two sentences. Posts lacking a summary may be removed.
• Links aren't a substitute for actual commentary. If you post a link, briefly explain what's behind it (title, a quick summary, or a key quote). It should be clear why the page is relevant to the discussion.
A small side note:

Please specify if you're posting an image or a video. A little effort goes a long way; it kills the conversation when we have to click through links just to figure out what you were trying to say.

Don't quote low-quality posts, and don't engage with trolls.

Report inappropriate posts and then ignore them. Just ignore them, and one of us will handle the moderation.

As always, we have zero tolerance for hate speech. Please keep that in mind when participating.

This is the general thread for discussing immigration issues. There's really no need to start new or separate threads for this topic.

Additional guidelines:

1. Stop the personal insults (Penalty: 45 points)

2. Stop attacking people over their political affiliations (Penalty: 35 points)

3. Posting links to racist or xenophobic websites is strictly prohibited (Penalty: 100 points)

4. Inciting violence against immigrants is forbidden (Penalty: 100-500 points)

5. Don't spread panic with unverified info or posts that fly in the face of reality (for example, calling people "savages with knives" when they’ve been perfectly polite and haven't even stolen a candy bar from a convenience store) (Penalty: 35 points)

Update to the intro: The moderator warning from page 309 now applies here too.

rapidnomad512 said:To be clear, that reason for editing was written by slybison8 when he edited the post with my permission!

But this forum already looked into editing posts because of the habit of deleting posts and then editing them later just so they can be "justifiably deleted." It was determined that since you can't see the edit history, editing posts is strictly forbidden.

What’s the total number of posts deleted by all moderators since October 8th?

Three strikes and this thread goes to administration.

What’s the big issue with lucaton's deleted post where he cited the membership invitations that both Ivo Josipović and Vesna Pusić rejected?

Is this supposed to be a chat room?

Less than I have.

Continuing my tally of deleted posts... over the last ten days or so, three more posts have been wiped from this thread. Some users haven't even managed to write a single original thought before jumping in to weigh in on the massacre.

Your own posts have been getting wiped—one specifically just in the last ten days—yet here you are, starting a thread with some sensationalist headline about a topic being slaughtered. 🤦

If I were being picky, there's plenty else I’d choose not to read.

The way things are going, this topic has become a total minefield. They’ve gone out of their way to troll and mock slybison8, and honestly, they might even try to push him out of his position.

🤔 This caught my eye. You won't believe it, but PL is still a full-fledged moderator in the election pdf. Politics.

At 11:07 you posted a deleted message, yet at 11:06, the post right before yours already exposed it. If you somehow missed the thread above yours, how did you miss the one below where this is being sorted out? Or perhaps the detailed explanation on the next page? All these posts were made roughly 30 minutes apart, all staying strictly on topic—yet yours is the outlier. You didn't find that odd?

Do you honestly believe any of us should be spending our time chasing down users via PMs just because they aren't paying attention, on top of our moderation duties?

So, you claim you don't read the fine print, and that’s why you got burned over those few bucks? Honestly, just read what you sign and pay attention to which thread you're posting in.

You missed the fact that The Evening News broke this story, then issued an apology just hours later because they accidentally reposted news from 2013.

So, what was even the point of that post—or any of the comments following it?
If you actually bother to scroll to the bottom of that CNN link, you'll find this:

In today's print and digital editions of The Evening News, October 17, 2015, we published a report titled "San Francisco burning: Immigrants set hundreds of cars on fire."

We apologize to the embassy and our readers; a production error occurred, and our standard fact-checking process failed to catch the outdated nature of this report.

The Evening News Editorial Board.

CNN picked up the story in good faith, so we owe our readers an apology as well.

Maybe try reading the actual article before filing a complaint next time.
What are your thoughts on Deedy's moderation at the CIA? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Deleting posts is just standard moderation. Deciding whether to scrub certain comments or let them sit depends entirely on the context—reading the room. Often, there’s no sense in leaving them up; they usually just serve to fuel more trolling, insults, or pointless bickering. Plus, karma exists. There isn't one single rule that covers everything.

That's all from me.
