What I would say, though, is that the mods simply can't be everywhere at once on Politics in a Day... And while everyone technically monitors everything, certain threads are naturally watched more closely by specific moderators. For instance, I rarely touch the finance subforums, and other guys might not even glance at the immigration threads, and so on. That's why reporting rule-breaking posts is actually useful. Sure, I get that it feels awkward in certain situations, like when you don't want to be the one snitching just because someone dropped an English link...
On that note, there's another thing: generally, we tend to turn a blind eye to English a bit more often because the assumption is that most people here can read it. I'm not saying that's perfectly fine, since there are definitely people who struggle with it, so if that's the rule, you're right that it should be applied consistently to everyone. But, the reality is that English occasionally slips through the cracks. In the US, it's basically part of the DNA since everyone goes through it in school from a young age.
Other languages—like German—are only known by a small group who took specific classes, or very few people at all, like Russian. English is objectively only an issue for those over, say, 40. Everyone else spent over a decade studying it in the American school system, so the assumption is they can figure out a basic text on their own...
Seriously though—can't you guys just work it out and split up the workload or the moderating duties? It’d make things so much smoother!
So, like—maybe we could just start a private thread? You know, somewhere off the radar where we can hash out the details ourselves! We could decide right then and there who’s gonna mod which topics and set up a rotation—like, maybe some people take the even weeks and others grab the odd ones—to keep an eye on those brand-new threads. What do you guys think?
We actually had the exact same thing happening on our overseas forum back in the day! It was wild—you'd have a bunch of mods all piling into one specific thread because they were personally obsessed with the topic, while other threads would just sit there totally empty because nobody, not even the staff, found them interesting enough to jump into.
It honestly took forever—like, seriously long—before we finally sat down and figured out who was actually going to be running the show and how we’d handle moderating the threads!
There's always another side to the coin—especially if there aren't enough people hanging out on the forum!
active! Honestly, looking at the ratio of mods who aren't exactly on some "paid" payroll versus how many posts they actually drop daily—it’s kind of wild! Just a mid-level amount of activity there, really.
If that’s how it's gonna be—then honestly, miracles just don't exist!
