A tie.

Ref, just blow the whistle already. ☕

Is Golez feeling under the weather or something?😕

The coach basically stripped the team of their right to shoot penalties after just one miss.

Tsk-tsk-tsk.... 🙄

I mean, they’re definitely a much bigger challenge than the Swedes, who haven't managed to beat them since back in the last century.

If the Swedes end up beating the French by just a single point, we’re out. It doesn't even matter if we absolutely crushed the Russians and the Poles earlier.

Anyone who caught the end of that Poland vs. Russia game knows exactly how those two teams played with the Mexicans, and you know what I'm talking about. 🙄

At this point, our fate isn't even in our own hands anymore, all because of that mess at the end of the game against Sweden where we could have easily pulled off a win by three. 🙂

Look, Čupić is basically Golužin from Metković—meaning he’s absolutely indispensable. Even if even the top guy in Alan Ford can't quite remember the last time he actually took flight and sank a shot, the man stays on the line for penalties without being swapped out, even after missing three in a row.😁

Honestly, if we had hosted the World Cup back when we were at our peak—performing way beyond our actual talent level like those Mexicans did years ago—we probably would've crushed France by 15 points in the final. 🙄

Ryan Vaughn7 said:But it’s definitely a lot smaller than the chance of someone forgetting a play, messing up, or just blowing it during the setup of a single predetermined outcome, which would land them in a semifinal against Denmark.

I wasn't really talking about sixty minutes of active score-fixing; honestly, that sounds way too complicated to pull off. If the Frenchmen can beat the Swedes by ten points, they’re going to walk right in and do it without breaking a sweat.

It's a tall order, though.

But, if we head into that final minute with things looking pretty even—say, the French are up by maybe one or two (which feels much more likely) .... 🙄

Even the Poles were playing a decent, honest game until it hit 59:50 ... And then those last ten seconds? They were just painful to watch.

I actually think it's the other way around. This whole "France complex" thing is really just a myth cooked up by our local sports journalists and the general public.

If you set aside friendly matches, we've played them 12 times at the Euros, Worlds, or Olympics since 2003, and the record is dead even—6 wins apiece. And honestly, nobody has ever managed to string more than two wins together in that stretch.

So, when you look at it, it's a total wash. It's perfectly balanced whether you look at the long term or the short term (we've taken 2 out of their last 4, with the wins basically alternating).

That's exactly why the French have plenty of motivation to knock us out by letting Sweden slip through instead. 🙄

Honestly, if the administration changed tomorrow, this whole topic would vanish instantly. It would be about as relevant as a new bus station in a tiny rural town in the Midwest.
☕

Pretty much everything being discussed here—including the stuff about what happens once the government shifts—could have been applied back when the leftists were obsessing over that labor law referendum (complete with all the fanfare surrounding Zokijev signing that petition). I don't recall any of you being quite this insightful back then.

Or, let me put it this way:

It’s perfectly understandable that Pittsburgh residents are asking for an exemption from the law, and there's no shame in that for America.

What *is* a disgrace to America is letting the whole situation spiral into this general frenzy against Cyrillic itself—where people are even ripping down signs in places like Lika or Zagora.

And that is exactly why this deserves to be a Top-topic right now. ☕

Besides, domestic partnerships already grant people basically all the same legal rights you'd get from being married anyway.

Spot on.

The whole situation feels like a sinking ship to me.

You’ve got one group of fools scrambling to board it, 🤦

while on the other side, there's just as big a crowd of fools refusing to get on at all. 🤣
Repo Men (2010) in Movies ·
I just caught this on HBO since it recently started streaming, and I figured I’d chime in for anyone else who might be diving into it for the first time right about now. 🙂

Look, even if you consider the core concept stolen, I think it was an idea worth lifting—especially with how they handled the execution. Instead of leaning into the campy, trashy opera vibes of the original material, they went for this heavy-hitting blend of high-octane action and deep, contemplative storytelling.

That being said, just like most people here have been saying, the final product didn't quite hit the heights it could have. It’s a bummer, really. It had the potential to be the next Blade Runner or maybe even something like Minority Report, given all the comparisons people have been making.

As for that "it was all just a dream" type of ending (in this case, basically the last third of the movie), there's a slim chance it works as a metaphor for how tearing down a ruthless corporate empire through one suicidal act is nothing more than an impossible dream. But honestly? It’s still one of the most frustrating tropes to encounter at the end of a movie. In my book, it's easily one of the clumsiest ways to wrap things up.

There are plenty of other misses, but I want to wrap this up by highlighting two things that actually worked:

- Forest Whitaker is hands down one of the most emotive actors out there. Casting him as this cold, heartless "enforcer" was a brilliant move that adds so much layers to his character. You see those moments where his face—which usually carries such a natural, raw intensity—goes totally stone-cold. It’s fascinating, and arguably some of the most disciplined acting he's ever done. 😛

- The setting is this "near future," a sort of dystopian reflection of our own world. But instead of falling into the trap of trying to invent some weird, futuristic synth music, the filmmakers filled the soundtrack with cool tracks that aren't even contemporary, but pulled from the recent past. 😍 I won't list every single track, but if you've seen it, you know the selection is absolutely perfect for creating that dreamy, surreal atmosphere.
Nuclear strike on America in Close to Politics ·
Linda Roberts2 said:The war would unfold in three distinct stages. First, the weaker allies without nuclear capabilities would take the brunt of it. Second, it would move into uninhabited territories, and only in the third stage would cities actually be targeted.

Those "plans" of yours are certainly something.

First, you'd strike meaningless targets that wouldn't change anything, then you'd hit more meaningless targets that wouldn't change anything, and finally, for variety's sake, you'd just go after even more meaningless targets that wouldn't change a thing.

And you claim you "read" this somewhere?

Where exactly? 😕

In some dusty old issue of Mickey's Funhouse you dug up from the attic? 😛
Kate Rodriguez3 said:That whole Archie Bronson Outfit thing—I honestly can't even remember what day it was because it was just too pretentious and kind of a letdown. Mando Diao put on a decent enough show, even if I don't really listen to them and found them a bit exhausting. Honestly, the most draining part of their set was dealing with those screaming fangirls in the front row; they actually made me want to back away from the barricade...

The Archie Bronson Outfit is just the wrong vibe for an outdoors festival, and vice versa. They’d be much better suited for a dark, sweaty club somewhere.

And Mando Diao (at least based on their live sound) feels a little too "pop-leaning" for a massive event like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Maybe they should have tried heading a few hundred miles south to the Split Festival instead? 🤣

I was browsing the English version of Wiki and looking at how many different genres they've slapped onto them under "genre":

Alternative rock
Garage rock revival
Blues rock
Indie rock
Country

🤦

If that's the case, then what does that make Alen Nižetić? A Death-metalhead? 😂

After them, Franz Ferdinand was just a standard "wild party." Those guys have so much live charisma that they can play through a huge chunk of unreleased, unknown material without breaking a sweat, and they still absolutely kill it. 🙏
Gogol Bordello was incredible—just a wild, high-energy, totally unrestrained performance, which is exactly what you expect from a band in that genre. 🙂
Honestly, it was a highly professional set—really solid, even great—but nothing more than that. They’re arguably a bit too old to be hitting much higher levels, yet they lacked just enough to reach that next tier. Specifically, they were missing Peter Hook. While Taj Chapman did a fine job locking everything in, that was about it. We really missed Hook's image, that classic "bad boy rocker" vibe that acts as the perfect counterweight to Sumner's image as the "polished nerd."

Regardless, New Order fans should be pretty happy with how things went.

The absolute peaks of the show: hearing Crystal during the opening (the way the "live" New Order band on stage synced up perfectly with the "fake" band from the official music video projected behind them) and, of course, True Faith in the second half. Still, it was during those exact moments that you felt Hook's absence the most.

That said, both New Order and JD fans might feel a little let down that the band didn't stop at just two JD tracks (Ceremony and LWTUA). Those two are always performed brilliantly, and they nailed them last night. On the flip side, their NO-obrad version of Isolation was totally overdone; the performance felt unnecessary.

I'm already looking forward to autumn and seeing Hook at the Fairgrounds. ☕

Failure to report a crime

Section 300.

(1) Anyone who knows a felony has been committed and fails to report it—even though reporting it would make finding the crime or the perpetrator much easier—when that crime carries a mandatory long-term prison sentence,

will face a fine or up to three years in prison.

Every individual, regardless of family ties, is legally obligated to report a crime once they become aware of it.

Erhrr..... You're circling back to an old post of mine that you already replied to.

And honestly, it wasn't much of a winning argument.

What I said back then still stands:

So, to put it simply: just by receiving the letters we're discussing here, the recipient doesn't actually know anything about a crime being committed and has zero knowledge of the specifics.

All they know is that there are letters. That’s it. 🤷

The KC went even further than just keeping quiet; they were actively moving suspects around.

What does receiving accusatory letters have to do with "knowledge of a criminal act"?

Or are you trying to suggest that Bozanic was personally standing there watching while Ljubicic was committing these acts? 🤦

bluemarlin19 said:So, legally speaking, the Church knew about the accusations. Instead of handing them over to the police, they just moved the priest to Rab, where the parents ended up reporting him themselves in the end.

What would you call that—legally speaking?

But why on earth would the Church be required to report them to secular authorities?

Where exactly does it say they have to do that?

Think about it—why would any employer be obligated to report their employees (for any kind of misconduct, not just pedophilia) based solely on some letters or accusations?

And who do you think should be the one reporting pedophilia to the police, if not the victims themselves (or their parents, since we're talking about minors)?

Or, let me rephrase:

What part of "every person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" is confusing to you? 🤷
