Back then, a Commodore was the gold standard. But give us the actual data on this computer. Even without seeing it, my gut tells me it's just way too underpowered for modern demands—especially since the internet is an absolute beast now, whereas back in 1995, it wasn't even a fraction of what it is today.
Bottom line: if you index everything from the jump—meaning you include both your C and D drives, for instance—you'll be able to find whatever you need just by typing it into the Start menu search box.

Usually, if you're looking at discrete graphics, they're soldered onto the motherboard, which means you're stuck replacing the whole board or attempting a repair. Then, of course, you have the APUs integrated directly into the CPU itself.
And yeah, there are setups that utilize a combination of both.
But here's the thing: right now, we're flying blind. We don't know which processor is under the hood, and we don't even know if it has discrete graphics or not. We know absolutely nothing.
Every single technician at these tech startups tried to talk me into swapping out my RAM to stabilize the system, even though they could clearly see it sitting right there in the BIOS.
The issue was that the original stick was 1600 MHz with 11-11-11-28 timings—specifically DDR3L running at 1.35v—but I had gone out and bought standard DDR3 at 1.5v. (Even now, AIDA64 keeps reporting it as standard DDR3 1.5v instead of the actual DDR3L 1.35v I'm using)
Anyway, I took it back to Best Buy, swapped it out, and everything's working perfectly now.

My old laptop finally kicked the bucket—it had a Turion RM-74 X2 2.20, an AMD HD3200 256 MB, and I’d upgraded it to Windows 8 about a year ago.
So, I pick up a new laptop with an A8-4500M quad core 1.90-2.80MHz turbo, featuring 7640G 768MB + 8750M 2GB Dual graphics. I install Windows 7 SP1 from a DVD because the installation files and a student key were still sitting on the hard drive of the dead laptop.
I get everything configured and head straight into video rendering. And here's the thing: even though I have all the correct drivers for Windows 7 on this new HP machine, it renders slower than the old, supposedly weaker laptop. It makes zero sense. In gaming, the performance gap is noticeable, but for rendering? It’s absolute garbage compared to what I expected given the newer, superior hardware.
In the meantime, I buy a USB 3.0 external enclosure, move everything from the old hard drive over to the new laptop, install Windows 8, run all the updates, and then use the Store to upgrade to 8.1 once it's released. After setting everything back up and hitting render again, the speed is incredible compared to Windows 7. Now we're talking—that's the kind of performance jump you actually expect when seeing such a massive hardware leap.
Plus, my gaming performance shot up compared to Windows 7.
Listen up, you peasants: I have absolutely zero desire to ever downgrade from 8.1 back to Windows 7.🙂
Since we're only a week-2 away from things picking up, why wait? 8.1 is just more optimized—it’s better, it’s faster, period. For modern hardware, there's really no point in sticking with Windows 7 when you can actually push 8.1.
And grab a 4GB stick of RAM so you can run in dual channel. By the way, you didn't even mention your graphics card...
In my experience, 8.1 handles gaming much better and it's noticeably faster during rendering. I see it on my own rig all the time. 🙂
