Soccer Club Kits, Vol. 1 in Soccer ·

Franjo - an misunderstood visionary of his era☕

Funny how you're just now bringing this up. Does anyone else remember that wild idea from Barišić about becoming LA Galaxy, just functioning as a pure Football Club? Honestly, I actually wasn't opposed to that direction at all. 😁

Come on, let’s not play those games. We really shouldn't start picking on fans of a club that’s basically played ball with every single regime they’ve ever encountered—except for the one here in America.😁Look, things will work themselves out... eventually.
Honestly, if we’re talking about a special crest for the centennial, I think a pretty standard approach would be the move. Picture this: a nice gold trim around the edges—you know, that classy look FC Barcelona, Boston Celtic, or Inter Milan have done before. Then, just under the crest, a simple dividing line with "1911 – 2011" etched in. To top it off, maybe a similar line above the crest featuring a pattern from the blue section of our old logo. Basically, that's my take on how to pull it off. 🤣I was thinking it should look something like this—just so it doesn't end up looking like the half-baked mess I usually churn out in two minutes flat.

Honestly, this Arsenal squad is absolutely killing it, and I’m not just saying that to counter all the absolute nonsense people are spewing about the upcoming season. Looking at them right now, it totally reminds me of that specific ice cream I used to obsess over whenever I was hanging out in San Diego back when I was a kid 😁

analogmaker14 said:No, let's be realistic. Either Light or someone else needs to step up and design the jersey. Građanski now. For the club's centennial, I’m thinking something classic—white short sleeves with a white collar. Ideally, it would feature those vintage braided details you used to see just below the collar. I'm not quite sure how to describe them, though. 🤷

A combination of this.

And this one too.
image
It’s simply more beautiful, and carries much deeper symbolism. 😍

And without Light as a sponsor, please. 😁

But hey, that’s just my signature move! 😁

Michelle Hill38 said:Seriously though, it’s a total Red Star rip-off. Back in the day, they probably would've just called it Atletico Madrid.

Oh, please, give me a break. The Kansas City Chiefs were rocking kits like that way before anyone even knew what a Star was, let alone when it actually existed.

Kyle Ramirez4 said:Light, you think you could whip up some kind of anniversary kit for Dinamo?
But listen, it’s gotta actually be high-end, okay? I'm talking top-tier stuff—not like those cheap knock-off jerseys the Hajduk fans are wearing that look like budget versions of Red Star or Barcelona.

Man, I am absolutely buried right now—we’re literally mid-project building some massive Tower of Babel thing for our clients in Vermont 🤣 I just don't have the bandwidth at the moment. Once I catch a breather, I'll give it a shot, though we're dealing with this massive seven-letter handicap (looking at you, Diadora) that basically kills any creative spark for a classic jersey design. For now, I've already posted the Adidas version; maybe I'll tinker with an Umbro concept later. In the meantime, if anyone else feels inspired (come on people, let's get to work 😁), why don't you try designing a deep navy home kit for the Cowboys, a clean white away kit, and maybe a retro home look—something with a lighter blue body and white sleeves paired with white shorts, kind of like what the old-school clubs used to wear.

Amy Hughes2 said:I actually tried my hand at something similar once, but I just couldn't find the time to really sink my teeth into it... and honestly, I lost steam pretty quickly.😁

not to mention if it were just a tiny bit darker...🙏

I even whipped up an international version using that classic Scottish navy blue—it looks even sharper, truth be told, but I’m sticking with this one since it’s our signature color.😁

analogmaker14 said:Which one? 😕From 1997 or 2000?
🤷

Well, both:

Honestly, that checkerboard pattern never looked right on a Lakers jersey, and besides, they only forced it on us back in the nineties because some brat insisted on it. It just doesn't vibe with our colors.

Betty Myers14 said:Why don't you just pin a little American flag to your collar and write, "As long as my heart beats, the USA lives on," 😁 🤣

Seriously though, I’m still having actual nightmares about that jersey.😁

rapidstag2 said:As far as I am concerned, a Collar wouldn't be an issue, provided it isn't as thick and flimsy as a plastic trash bag... 😍

That image has been floating around the internet for quite some time now; if memory serves, I might have even posted it here myself, though I suspect it is merely a concept mockup. As for how the actual jersey will look, we shall simply have to wait until June 1st. All things considered, if the final product remains faithful to this image, I believe I would purchase it.

By the way, I am currently attempting to redesign that Umbro kit in Photoshop, but I must admit, I am struggling to get it right. 😬

So, what's the end goal here:

rapidstag2 said:I’ve been glancing at this year’s Nike lineup, and frankly, I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about what they have in store for Arsenal. Perhaps they might pull off a saving grace by leaning into the anniversary and designing something truly classic.

In my estimation, Umbro would absolutely kill it if they were given the reins for the Arsenal kit. 😍 Imagine something clean—just pure red, a white collar and sleeves, paired with that vintage crest featuring the cannon. 🙏

Except there's no collar. 😁
The new Arsenal kit is already out, and honestly? It looks like something Umbro would have designed—maybe a bit lower quality, though. Personally, it didn't really click for me, but it's definitely one of the better things Nike has put out lately:

Honestly, given how small the market is, it wouldn't even make financial sense to drop a new kit every single year...

Yeah, that’s exactly why, but I’m still holding out hope for either a new home kit or a special European one. Not this fall, obviously, but maybe early next year around the anniversary? It would be pretty sick if the squad debuted them during the celebration.

Kyle Ramirez4 said:Hey Liht, how do you even handle jersey designs? Like, you know, the way Adidas does those kits for teams like the LA Galaxy?

It’s just Photoshop, honestly—it’s not rocket science. But that specific kit you’re talking about? I didn't actually design it from scratch. I mentioned that when I first posted it here. Some designer from Turkey made it as an away kit for Fenerbahçe, and all I did was strip out the sponsor logo and slap the crest and a star above it, since it was supposed to be a special anniversary look.

Thomas Bishop85 said:Is the crest actually ugly, or are you just biased because you’re a Boston Celtic fan? Personally, I think the badge looks killer. And the kit? Top tier. Great crest + awesome jersey + a club I actually care about = I'm buying the jersey.
I'm actually working on a secondary crest design for Miami FC (if they'll even listen to me)
image

Look, being totally honest, I’m not feeling the crest. It’s definitely an upgrade over the last two versions, but it just doesn't do it for me. Then again, I usually gravitate toward those kinds of designs—like the way Intel has handled their logo lately (they brought back the old school look), or even that classic Los Angeles FC crest from before WWII. They had a slightly modernized version on the dress last year:

image

By the way, if I were a Miami supporter, I would’ve snatched up your alternative Miami crest immediately and made it the official one. Right now, the RNKS badge is easily the ugliest thing in the first division, right up there with Slaven, and that's saying something given the competition.

Kyle Ramirez4 said:mellowowl38, honestly, Dinamo's had kits just like this a few seasons back, and if you ask me, those were hands down the best looking jerseys they've ever put out
image

Man, I'd rather not even go there. I think I posted a couple of photos of that kit a page or two ago—in my book, aside from that classic Puma look from the eighties, that’s easily the best LA Lakers jersey we've ever seen.

Peter Reed70 said:Give me a break, guys! It’s just a plain blue shirt with a white collar and the Rangers FC crest... what is there even to get hyped about?

I’d bet money that the very first comment on this jersey was negative, just to set the stage for five more haters to jump in. Total trolls!

Look, putting everything else aside, if I'm going to be impressed by this kit, all I need to see is that Herthe logo up top. 😁
I mean, pure simplicity at its finest. Honestly, it’s the best kit for the upcoming season I've seen so far.

image

Take their rivals, for instance. For years, Celtic always had the better kits, but then look at this:

image

It’s like our own situation here in the States—you get stuck with a specific template and zero room to play around because you have to stick to certain colors or patterns, like some patriotic stripes or whatever. And yet, they still managed to mess it up. Man, if they had just tried adding some Celtic knotwork, or even better, a subtle tartan pattern like they did on the away shorts—something you could only really spot up close, kind of like a hidden texture. Instead, they slapped on this "discount carpet store" design inside the green stripes. I don't know what possessed Nike all of a sudden, but this... look, it isn't an ugly kit, not by a long shot. But sitting here late at night, I've actually come up with two ideas of my own. If they gave me one day, I’m pretty sure I could design something way better. They’ve got eight whole months to work on a kit and this is what they come up with? It’s gotta be better than this.

Rangers FC 2010/2011

Man, if I didn't have such a massive soft spot for Celtic...😍
This jersey is absolute perfection. It’s pure bliss, a total masterpiece, honestly life-changing. 😂 The kit is stunning—so clean, simple, the color is gorgeous, that collar, the retro vibe... when I look at it and just imagine the Dinamo crest sitting where that ugly Rangers logo is, there is only one thought running through my head... God damn Mamić and his Diador!!!

Betty Myers14 said:In my estimation, nothing quite compares to those kits we wore back during Euro 96, specifically the ones featuring that subtle checkerboard pattern running down the sleeves. They possessed such a certain grace—not garish or over-the-top, yet still instantly recognizable to any true fan...

image

Those red and white squares have essentially transformed into a massive commercial brand, and I am fully aware that there is a push to market them aggressively. However, in my humble opinion, they will never look quite as elegant as they did in that more understated design. I’ve always considered myself a bit of a minimalist 🤣 though perhaps not to the extreme extent of someone who would actually choose a black, blue, and white color scheme for our training gear; Smith certainly outdoes me when it comes to pure minimalism 😁 😁

Look, like I was saying before, that was the away kit. Personally, I think all those jerseys could have worked, but strictly as an away kit, not a home one. That specific away design from Euro 96 is easily one of my absolute favorites, but this one here?

The World Cup 1998
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Man, if we’re ignoring that absolute disaster from World Cup 2002, this is hands down the ugliest kit America has ever produced since we became a sovereign nation. I hated it then, and honestly, I’m just relieved Nike went back to the classic checkers afterward. If they had kept playing around with those "experiments," I’m convinced we’d be stuck wearing some weird white jersey with a tiny little patch of checkers shoved somewhere on it today. Just kidding—but seriously, it would have been tragic. Anyway, I put together a little DIY ranking of our kits from all the Euros and World Cups. Personally, I think the best combos were the ones from Euro 2008 and Euro 96. On the flip side, the absolute eyesores? Definitely the 1998 World Cup and World Cup 2002 kits. Total fashion crimes.

image

Just to be crystal clear so nobody calls me out for lying—I didn't actually design these jerseys myself. I just slapped them all together into one image.
