mellownomad said:The core argument behind voting on this thread is quite simple: we shouldn't give Greece an inch of leeway. In fact, we should push them straight toward bankruptcy rather than offering any concessions.

Think about it this way: if we decide to bail them out, we aren't just helping one nation; we are effectively opening the floodgates. It would set a precedent that invites every other country to come knocking, demanding their own debts be wiped clean.
long live socialism! long live the Communist Party! long live Comrade Marshall!

and why on earth would that be a bad thing?

The Almighty brought heaven and installed communism.
Marshall brought heaven and installed socialism.

But then again, the world rarely works out that way... ☕

Perfect?
I'm out here voting for shutting down

Morgan Fox6 said:It’s definitely not just happening here. I mean, part of why things work in the West is because there’s this balance—employees take ownership, while management focuses on loyalty and, you know, having decent people skills.
But honestly, that rarely actually works out in practice.

I once worked in an environment where responsibility sat entirely on the manager's shoulders, and if they tried to pass any of that onto the staff, it was basically just a suggestion at best.
And let me tell you, in a setup like that, I never really felt like I became "part of the team," and I ended up clashing with another department.
As a reward for my efforts, I got handed instructions from that other department to basically dismantle our entire system. So, I did it. And my coworkers helped too. It's all a big circle of favors. That other department just makes up work for themselves, and then gets approved for three months of labor in just one month.

In return, when someone needs to be pushed out, everyone just stays quiet and keeps their heads down, right? Is that how the game is played?
It's all just one big loop..

I actually called out that other department in front of everyone for sending me those instructions to wreck the system, and then I got hauled into the boss's office. I told him, "Look, this is my responsibility."
The boss just looked at me and said, "Okay, fine. Just be smarter next time."🙂
Which is exactly why that guy is making millions..

Then there was this one colleague of mine—he wasn't great at communicating, or maybe he just seemed that way to others—but he was perfectly integrated into the group. He kept trying to push for professional growth and better ways of doing things, but he couldn't survive his probationary period.
Because every single time he tried to assert his will—strictly for the good of the company, mind you—he didn't realize that it just made everyone else look stupid, and they felt forced to follow his lead.
They canned him right after his probation, without a cent of severance...

He used to tell me about his time working in New York; he said Americans will stab you in the back and laugh in your face while they do it, whereas here in the Mediterranean, it's much more casual.

Man, this is the Mediterranean for you. You find the strongest guy in the pack and you just kiss his ass. There's no room for individualism here; the second you show any, you're finished.

Honestly, just lock them all in a room and dump a box of firecrackers in there; let them have their little party then.

The vast majority of people I see setting off fireworks are minors. Is that your experience—that adults are out here doing it? Any adult throwing fireworks around should probably be sent for a psychiatric evaluation. It's not like I haven't seen guys in their 20s lighting them off and giggling like toddlers; it looks incredibly weird, like they aren't even aware of how they're coming across.
Most of the time, we're talking about kids, and kids are exactly who these pointless toys are designed for.

Man, imagine how much fun they'd actually have!

Kimberly Smith6 said:Honestly, man, I mean—do you really think everyone enjoys reading books, especially when they’re about such complete nonsense? And who actually wants to go for a walk in sub-zero temperatures when it's freezing outside? 😬
Movies and spending time together, though, those are things people actually do every single day.

People set off firecrackers because they want to celebrate, not because they’re mourning some tragedy.
It’s just one day where they get to feel some joy, because for the rest of the year, most people are just dealing with the grind—the recession, the struggle to make ends meet, heartbreak, sickness, funerals, pure boredom, and all that mental and physical exhaustion from work or school, blah blah blah, you name it!

Personally, I didn't throw anything, and I didn't even bother watching the fireworks, even though I had the perfect view from the top of a hill overlooking half of Washington, D.C., simply because I wasn't in the mood to celebrate at all.
If I'm not in the spirit to celebrate, then let everyone else have their fun. I don't see what my personal mood has to do with stopping them; it's a bit arrogant to assume that my lack of enthusiasm should somehow dictate how others enjoy themselves, isn't it?

basically anything risky
that happens to be within reach of immature,

unreliable people - should just be outlawed.
- needs to be banned.
And then everyone suffers:
users,
bystanders,
kids,
their families,
animals,
property,
...
society itself.

Kimberly Smith6 said:It isn't actually about the firecrackers themselves, but rather the absolute moron behind them. You see kids running around with explosives because their parents are being negligent and frankly, just plain foolish. Whenever you run into a kid acting out or causing trouble, you can bet your life that's just a direct reflection of how they were raised at home.
Children are essentially just a mirror held up to their parents' upbringing.

As for me, I didn't set off a single firecracker this New Year's Eve, but I'm still not advocating for a ban on them; I think people should be allowed to have some fun during that one day of the year when there's almost nothing else to celebrate, especially since everything in this country feels like it's falling apart right now.

😁

People can find joy in a great book,
watching a movie, hanging out with family, going for a walk,
...

but fireworks and those kinds of things,
are definitely not how you celebrate!

we need to ban firecrackers entirely, and honestly, anyone caught using them should be sent to see a mental health professional for an evaluation
ban sparklers too, because I saw two people get absolutely scorched last night, just innocent bystanders minding their own business

We have to crack down hard and punish this behavior strictly until we finally root out this kind of pure idiocy once and for all

we should probably just ban governments from even functioning,
specifically those ones that let such immature and reckless individuals

get their hands on dangerous goods and hazardous materials in the first place.

It’s just a damn shame,
because we’ve even got people acting like this right here on this forum.

I suppose I agree to an extent.

But, I feel like the issue isn't really about making something; the real struggle is selling it, or rather, the distribution side of things.

I mean, you could theoretically "produce" 1,000 units of anything today, but then you're left wondering who is actually going to buy them and at what price point.

In my view, the only real option is looking toward international markets, but then again... everyone expects to get their slice of the pie.

If we're being realistic, I guess politics has certainly helped plenty of people climb the ladder.
