Is there any way I can change my handle to unknown?
The user is already taken (), but they’ve only got 34 posts to their name and haven't logged in since about 2010.
I brought this up before, but the request was shot down because the name was supposedly unavailable. That was a while ago, though. Rules seem to have shifted since then, so I figured I'd ask again.🕺
Can I change my handle to shadow?
There’s already someone using that nickname, but they registered back in 2002 and only have about 34 posts... 🕺
Can I get into Shadow?
If not (which is probably a no), then can Specter get into Spec.tre? Just so we’re all treated equally under Nick's Law and all that... 😛
Let me clarify. 🙂
(Specter, I don't hate you, it's just—the end justifies the means) 😁
You know perfectly well it isn't possible. There's no point in arguing about it now.
No, there’s absolutely no need for that. It just looks foolish—don't take that personally—when you tell us it was some sort of experiment, claiming you were changing Spectre's handle and then suddenly just stopping. It isn't that I'm confused; it's that I am genuinely, truly baffled. 😵
What am I even supposed to believe here? 🙂
Nicholas King said:It honestly baffles me how people manage to turn such trivial matters into massive, unnecessary dramas. I mean, seriously—WTF? Everyone is obsessing over usernames as if they were some sort of cosmic, life-altering issue.
The solution is actually quite simple: just implement a rule where any account that’s been inactive for three years and has fewer than 100 posts gets renamed to "zzzUsername," and then the whole problem is solved.
And what if someone decides to "wake up" after three years and actually wants to participate in the discussion again? Well, nothing. It's that simple. Just go ahead and create a new account and call it a day. Using a new handle isn't going to make you any more important, anyway.
Blah, blah, blah. 🤣
It isn't about changing names; I don't know how you can't see that. I opened this thread specifically to demonstrate that rules apply to certain relationships while others—in this case, Spectre—can just bypass them. Understand that the username isn't the core issue here. 🙂
Nicholas King said:At this point, any semblance of a productive conversation should probably just end right here.
What exactly gives you the right to be making these demands? Just because you paid your monthly subscription fee to use this forum doesn't mean you get to dictate terms based on some perceived clause in the user agreement, I suppose.
🤦
No, I haven't paid any kind of monthly fee. 🙄 But look, it stands to reason that if they are going to discuss it, they should define the post count and the last login timestamp. It's basic logic. 🤷
I’m going to need you to define exactly what you mean by "recently." And tell me precisely how many posts have to pass before you decide to scrub someone's handle from a thread. 🍿
🙂It seems like a fairly straightforward request to me.
And by the way, Frank Reed4 hasn't posted since October 12, 2006—it's not like he's been dropping messages here every single day since then. 🤣
I am attaching some evidence here to show that moderators, or whoever else is running the show (be it super-mods, admins, or some third party altogether), are logging into other people's accounts:
Take this thread that ZgSash started back when Cordelia passed away. If you look at the timestamps, the thread was opened on December 25, 2010, yet according to my records, Cordelia wasn't active after January 13, 2011.
If Cordelia wasn't logging into her own profile—which, let's face it, she couldn't have been—then who was? Once again, I am calling on the administration to speak up, specifically Tyndall, who continues to ignore us completely. I have no intention of letting this go until we get some actual answers. 🙂
Well, I am formally submitting my demand that my username be changed to Shadow Valley. ☕

As weird as it sounds, this wasn't done out of some whim by Spectre, nor is it about special treatment. Spectre was basically the guinea pig for Anderlon's experiment, just like Nica mentioned.
If you look at the threads where people request name changes, there's a huge group of users who might actually benefit from this. It happens all the time where someone wants a name like Nicole, but it's been sitting idle since 2006 with maybe zero or five posts. People end up registering as Nicole_1011 or Nicole_1903 because the simple version is taken. We've seen those requests before. And honestly, nobody would bother changing a name with a high post count. Let's say, 20 posts or more. This is really just about inactive accounts with almost no history.
That was the whole idea behind the experiment: to see if this change was even possible or useful in practice for everyone. Not just for mods, but for any user. I don't want anyone thinking I'm pushing to make this permanent; I'm not. As far as I know, that's not happening. Whether it becomes a thing or not is entirely up to Anderlon.
So, you can stop ganging up on Spectre now. He’s innocent. 😁
Anyway, let's wait for Tyndall to say something more. ☕
Tyndall?
😁
Why was I never chosen as a test subject? I remember posting on that thread about changing my handle because there was some guy named Shadow who hadn't been active in forever, blah blah blah. Now, all of a sudden, he’s back in action. I have no idea what triggered this. Did you guys go ahead and reactivate him yourselves, or what? 😂
Lest I forget, it would be an absurd notion for anyone to think about changing usernames once they’ve already built up a significant post count. It just doesn't make sense. I'll go ahead and throw out a figure here, purely off the top of my head—let's say twenty posts or more—and that's where the line should be drawn.
Spectre used to have 21 posts. Just sitting there. Looking back on it now. I remember when things were different. Back then, everything felt more straightforward, less cluttered. Now? It’s all just noise. Anyway, that was the count. 21. Not much, but it was what it was. ☕ I'm feeling pretty down about that number 30. It’s hard to swallow when Frank Reed4 is sitting there with a 34. Just one of those days, I suppose.
Now you can finally take the noose off Spectre; they were about to hang an innocent man. 😁
I’m not looking to hang anyone out to dry here. I’m simply pointing out certain irregularities and injustices. It’s painfully obvious that even among equals, there are those who hold more weight than others—and now, it seems they're all trying to pull a fast one by hiding behind these "experiment" excuses. And honestly? I find this whole experiment concept incredibly murky. If the goal was to see if Spectre...
.Do I need to change my handle since he's acting as a moderator? Or does a different procedure apply for someone in that position? 🍿
Not necessarily. Let's just hold off and wait for Tyndall to weigh in with some more details. ☕
Tyndall?
Yeah, exactly. But Tyndall?
jadetrucker43 said:The original jadetrucker43 account wasn't actually deleted—it just got rebranded as "ex Spectre." But then again, like Nica said, they'll probably fill us in on all the specifics down the road. 😉
It’s clear you don't get it. My question is whether James Bond villain became an ex villain because that was his choice—considering he hasn't even logged in since 2006—or if it happened because you wanted it to, and you were allowed to make it happen because you're a moderator. 🍿
I'm waiting for someone to tell me the rules apply to everyone equally, regardless of whether they're blue, black, red, purple, or green. By the way, it would be helpful if Tyndall actually wrote something, just so we can see where he stands on all this. He changes nicknames, doesn't he? 🙂
There are two purple and two red admins responsible for this PDF. It’s statistically impossible that none of them happen to be online right now. 🙂
Either they're rewriting the rulebook on the fly to claim I'm talking nonsense, or what? 🍿

I know I’m being a nuisance 🙈, but honestly, I’m at my wit's end here. Is there any way we can get back to how it was in sFrank Reed4? Maybe I'm just overreacting, but seeing this is genuinely revolting. 😂
🙂
No. You’ll get used to it. ☕
Can you get me into Frank Reed4? 😁
Sure thing, just reach out to Sash.
Can I change my name from Frank Reed4 to shadow?
There’s already a shadow, but the capitalization is different, so I figured I'd ask. 🙂
Capitalization doesn't actually matter here; the handle is already taken.
Maybe try asking over here at some point. I’m certainly no expert—far from it, actually.
But there you go, just so you know someone is actually paying attention to you. 🙂
Is it actually possible to split a signature up, like putting one part on the left side and the other on the right? 🙂
I was looking through the signature formatting guidelines, and it says that if I use a BB size 2 font, I’m actually allowed to use two lines in my signature. So, naturally, I tried to set it up that way, but of course, it just won't work. 😢
The system keeps throwing errors at me saying:
1. You aren't permitted to have two lines in a signature.
2. Certain BB size settings are restricted, almost as if I'm being blocked from changing the font size in my signature altogether.
What gives? 😕
And why on earth can't we use colored signatures, or even just change the font style? Is there really no way to include a link? 😢
