Look, okay, Russell is the one who actually blew his position and should have backed off, but Perez isn't innocent here either. Pushing like that is just plain stupid—if there's contact or a wheel touch, he's the one who's going to lose out way more than Russell will.

The race car was literally on fire and hadn't even come to a stop yet. Instead, some official barely managed to spot something under a wheel just in time for Sainz to jump out, before the car rolled right back into the barrier...

Not having a VSC on track when your car is burning up and sliding uncontrollably back onto the circuit would be beyond unprofessional.

The Gasly one is a much harder sell, though. There weren't even other cars nearby. Gasly knew damn well Sebastian Vettel was there, and Vettel didn't exactly have much room to dodge him...

But look, the penalties themselves are a joke in both cases; they shouldn't have even handed them out.
Because realistically, if the penalty for forcing someone off the track is basically nothing when the race is only 5 seconds long,
then it’s smarter for Charles Leclerc or Max Verstappen to just shove people off the track from now on rather than actually racing normally and leaving space...

But here’s how the progression actually works:
1st violation
2nd violation
3rd violation
Black & white flag
penalty

Vettel had his second violation on the penultimate lap, and then somehow magically jumped straight to a penalty without hitting the third violation or seeing the black & white flag. Just straight to the penalty...
How or why? No idea. It's just how it went...

Same deal with Russell—that shouldn't even be a penalty.
Even if you argue Perez should've been penalized before Russell, it's because Perez is the one forcing people off and leaving zero room, rather than being forced out himself.
