Power-to-weight ratio in Psychology ·
Let's be real here—mass psychology is basically just an old-school survival instinct. It can actually be pretty useful sometimes, like if you suddenly need to bolt for a fallout shelter during a nuclear strike.
Or when a Marxist makes a scene.
As for me, I honestly don't mind diving into shallow, trivial topics every once in a while—they’re actually great for zoning out... it’s kind of my version of watching soap operas.
In moderation, of course.

Man, I swear I’m about to lose my mind trying to make sense of Livadić’s posts.
Like, seriously—why am I even wasting my precious time on this?

IndyCar, man... that drop right after the first turn followed by that steep climb... it’s absolutely mental.

What is a Dogme 95 movie? in Movies ·
driftingowl27 said:Uhm, "Breaking the Waves" isn't actually a Dogme 95 film. 🙂

Well, uhm... I saw it mentioned in here, and since deep-diving through threads isn't exactly my superpower lately—I just kind of "latched onto" something that felt off to me, you know? Like a little mental alarm bell went off.
My bad.

I only caught "Lomec wave"...
So, I decided to hit up the local theater... just seeing what was playing... saw a von Trier flick listed... heard he was a pretty decent director, so I figured I'd check it out and see if I actually liked his style... the theater was basically empty... not that I really cared, though.
And man, after sitting through a few hours of that... let me tell you, it absolutely WRECKED ME!!!

Seriously, hats off to them—I was blown away, especially by that raw, "stripped-down" cinematography. That part really hit home for me.

Also, the whole bizarre storyline and that dark, moody atmosphere? Totally nailed it.

The only thing is, it’s a shame I was in such a headspace where I was just craving—you know—quick cuts, loud bangs, *boom*, *pow*, *screech!*—just mindless popcorn flicks.

Next time I go see a Lars von Trier movie, I think I'll need to mentally prepare a bit more.
And honestly, those flowers in the movie lean way more toward that Parisian blue vibe than they ever did in the book...

Honestly, it doesn't even matter what rank they finish at—they could have come in dead last for all I care...
the real thing is how you can see from an airplane window that they’re leaving their entire souls out there on the court. And man, you gotta respect that.
If only our other teams in domestic sports played with that kind of raw passion... especially the basketball guys—that’s my personal heartbreak right there, seriously, it's been ten years of this... 😢
These two are just hilarious—especially that one from Star Wars, when you compare it to a typical romance movie. But man, McGaw spends the whole damn film pining after Ryan O'Neil. Seriously, if you rename them both—say, while sitting next to some old aunt who can't stop crying over everything—then...
Best (and worst) movie theaters? in Movies ·
emerald said:Is it just me, or is the sound in theaters lately just... way too loud? Like, the last few times I’ve gone to catch a movie, it feels like it takes at least fifteen minutes just for my ears to stop ringing and actually adjust to the volume.

Man, you never know if they're actually rocking real Dolby Surround or if they're just slapping a sticker on the wall and calling it a day, right?

I won't go on too much about what's great, but I'm also a huge fan of AMC Theatres—mostly for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

But man, if we’re talking about the absolute worst theater experience ever, it was definitely this tiny little "cinema" in Newport.

We're talking wooden benches, a screen so out of focus it was basically a blurry mess—I was trying my hardest just to make out the plot of "Marsala"—plus you could smoke, laugh your head off, kick your feet up on the seat in front of you, whatever.
Add to that the fact that the movie itself had this super small-town, provincial vibe, which just amplified that weird, isolated feeling I get whenever I watch typical American indie films... honestly, the whole experience was just totally disconnected.

Man, thanks!!!! I seriously never knew any of the song titles on that cassette. It just had "Joy Division" printed on it, and even that faded away over the years....

Does anyone remember the name of that Joy Division track? You know, the one where he sings "...walk...in silence....don't walk away...in silence..." Man, that song was my absolute anthem back in my teenage years! I can't for the life of me remember the title—I used to listen to it constantly on an old burnt CD I made, and I actually ended up cracking the disc because I played it so many damn times... but then Spotify randomly brought it back to me today.
Gritty realism in American films in Movies ·
Most American movies feel like they’re just being needlessly harsh on the audience.
Especially when it comes to the screenwriters—they write stuff so brutal and clunky that even the most seasoned actors (and let’s be real, most of them come from a heavy theater background, though everyone here seems to jump into film regardless) end up looking like total amateurs in some tiny community theater production, no matter how much talent they actually have.
And honestly? That’s just the reality we’re stuck with.
Bruce Springsteen in Music ·
...memories.
Man, he was actually alright in my book maybe three or four years back—but then I started discovering those authentic Delta blues players, those gritty jazz ensembles, those soulful groups from the South, and all that. I think you guys get why it was so hard for me to just "move on" from him!

Springsteen is basically a giant recycling bin, but honestly, he’s decent. The guy basically took folk music from half the American South and claimed it as his own, passing off most of his choruses under the guise of "traditional melodies." That said, I think he’s a top-tier arranger, and that’s really what gives him that timeless feel—at least to the listener who isn't playing his stuff on loop every single day.

You gotta hand it to him for being so resourceful!
