Dealing with Scabies and itching? in Health ·
I think I actually picked up that nasty stuff about two years ago while I was visiting someone at the hospital.
I ended up using that Johnson's Baby cream—the one with the light-colored lid, if I remember correctly—and it seemed to help me out quite a bit.
I believe it was called Johnson's Baby or something like that.
They had it over at CVS and a few other places, so you might want to check there.
Broken paddle in Health ·
Have you had a chance to see an orthopedic specialist yet? If everything looks aligned and your bones aren't growing crookedly, I guess you might want to try some back exercises, though I think the most important thing is just focusing on your posture.
I actually dealt with something similar when I was around your age, and even now, my spine is slightly out of alignment because that’s just how I grew, I suppose. When you're standing or sitting, maybe try pulling your shoulders back as far as you can; I think that would be really helpful for opening up your chest and helping your lung capacity more than if you stay all hunched over.
Severe myopia in Health ·
Actually, my glasses work just fine, it’s more like the contacts aren't quite doing the trick since my prescription is actually a bit stronger than what's in my frames. But I guess it doesn't really matter much anyway, because I can't stand wearing contact lenses.
Severe myopia in Health ·
I used to work in the eye clinic at a public hospital, and they just mail the lenses straight to your house; you don't even get a say in which brand you get or where you buy them, so I guess it feels like one big monopoly unless you go to a private practice where you actually have some choices.
Anyway, I felt like $167 having to pay for soft contact lenses—three packs for each eye.
I suppose that should last about a year since they were the three-month supply kind.
The prescription they gave me was -5, which seems totally wrong because my glasses are -3.50, and I don't think there could possibly be that much of a difference.
Naturally, I can't see a thing with them and my eyes just end up hurting.

I guess I’ve still got this old, beat-up wallet that’s basically falling apart; the stitching is starting to give way and coins keep slipping out, but honestly, I’m probably just too lazy to go out and grab a new one. 🙂
I suppose I’m one of those people who never really throws anything away unless it’s gotten so worn down that it’s literally disintegrating.
Even though I'm well into my thirties now, I still have a huge pile of old childhood toys tucked away somewhere, because I feel like every single little thing holds some kind of deep meaning, so I just can't seem to bring myself to toss them.
Sudden weight gain: What's going on? in Health ·
It’s kind of funny how you’re suddenly eating so much more for no real reason, though I guess it's possible you might actually be pregnant without even knowing it yet.🙂
If you really are eating this much, maybe try adding a little more physical activity into your routine.
Opening a minor's checking and savings account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I think that’s available online, though I actually have one set up through my Bank of America account specifically for foreign currency, and apparently JPMorgan Chase and a few other big banks offer it too.
It might be easiest if you just open an account at a branch that's pretty close to where you live, so you don't have to go on a huge trek just to deposit some cash.
If you're planning to use it for PayPal, once you get registered, they usually just pull about $2 from your account and then send it right back to your PayPal balance once everything is verified.
To verify it, you basically just log in and enter a specific code found on your bank statement, but since Bank of America doesn't really send physical statements to your house much anymore, I usually just head down to the local branch and ask the lady at the desk to write the number down for me on a little slip of paper. That's how I handle it, anyway.
Opening a minor's checking and savings account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I guess you could do that, though if you have regular activity going on, most banks will probably hit you with a $5 $2.75 monthly maintenance fee, so maybe just check around before you commit to opening an account somewhere.
You might even want to ask about a basic checking account without a debit card—like one of those old-school paper check setups—since you wouldn't be able to use ATMs or shop online, but if someone sends you money, you could just head into a branch to withdraw it, and I think those usually don't have any monthly fees at all.

Casey Jones5 said:Hey, stop spreading misinformation. I can easily pull up statements from both my JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America cards if you want proof.

I'm not really sure about the JPMorgan Chase ones since I don't have one myself or know anyone who does, but I had a Wells Fargo card until a few months ago and it worked okay, at least not on PayPal. Someone else mentioned here that their Federal Reserve Microsoft card worked at certain online stores, but mine wouldn't work on PayPal, so I just went down to my local branch yesterday and the lady there ended up splitting the charge into two parts for me.
So yeah...

I think we’ve mentioned in this thread a few times already that you should probably just use cards from either JPMorgan Chase or Goldman Sachs!
Or maybe just any standard credit card from a major bank.

Olivia Thompson9 I guess someone mentioned:
I'm sixteen and I was thinking about opening an account—I don't really get the difference between checking and savings, to be honest—but I was hoping to have something where I could save up money and then actually use it to buy stuff online. My cousin is sixteen too and he has something like that, so I guess I'm just wondering what that's actually called and if it’s even possible to do? 🙂

I guess I'll go ahead and get back to you, just like I was doing for wireddriver45 earlier.
I guess you should probably just open either a checking or a savings account at Bank of America or JP Morgan Chase, since maybe their Visa cards are the only ones that actually work smoothly for online shopping.
I guess I might suggest going with a checking account instead of a foreign currency one, because they seem to take a pretty big cut on those currency accounts, maybe. $1.75 I guess there’s a monthly account maintenance fee if you actually have some activity going on in your account during the month, though I think keeping a basic checking account stays free if you don't use it much.
So, there's actually a bit of a difference between a standard checking account and a business account. A business account is basically meant for commercial stuff, so you’d have to report every single cent that flows through it when you file your tax returns. I guess you don't really need to worry about it right now since you're still a minor, but just so you know, those accounts are taxable, and if you start pulling in massive amounts of cash, the IRS might eventually come knocking to ask where all that money came from.😁
It's basically just a standard checking account where you get your paycheck deposited, so you can use checks or maybe even run a little bit of a negative balance if you need to.
I guess you can't really buy anything online with just a basic checking account card since it isn't an Intel-compatible one, maybe.

I guess I should check if you both feel like everything is clear now, but maybe just let me know if there's anything else you want to ask about.🙂

It’s true, I never really bother depositing anything less than $33.
I mean, you used to be able to pull out as much as $17 from a JPMorgan Chase ATM, and besides, you could always just grab some bread, milk, or a can of tuna with your card and blow those $17 at the local shopping mall. 😂
Intel Visa in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
You could $1.75 I guess, but I don't really see the point, since she'll probably just laugh at you while you're stuck waiting in line for thirty minutes at Wells Fargo to make your $1.75.🙂
I've definitely paid $33 before.
Maybe just pay $17 if you feel like you absolutely have to.

Look, I’m not expecting any income this month, but my monthly maintenance fees are sitting at $1.75/mo.
So, how do I actually get cash into my checking account?
And what’s the minimum amount I can deposit like that?

1. Like I mentioned before, you can just head over to the bank with your debit card and ID and deposit some cash at the ATM.
It should show up in your account pretty much instantly, so you could probably check it right at the machine once you walk out.
2. You can really deposit whatever you want, I guess; maybe even just $10 $0.00 if that's all you have, or even $33, since there isn't really a limit.

Also, I think most banks won't even charge you that $1.75 monthly service fee if there hasn't been any activity on the account at all during the month.

I personally have accounts at JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo and that seems to be how they handle it, though I suppose I wouldn't know about other banks.

I guess you definitely can, though your parents would probably be in charge of the account until you hit 18.
Basically, you could always deposit money into it, but I think you wouldn't be able to withdraw anything without their okay—unless the laws have changed recently and I'm just out of the loop.

Congrats on passing! 🙏🙏 🙏My parents always tried to teach me that lying isn't really the best way to go about things 🙂, and I think you might have actually shown that mindset with this post! goodness me.

P.S. Just so you know, I haven't bothered signing my debit cards for years since it doesn't seem to matter anyway, because I don't think anyone asks for a signature on a receipt unless it's a credit card.

@rustypanther39, the lettering on my Bank of America cards has completely rubbed off, and from Chase I only have a Maestro debit card left where the letters are still okay, though the card itself is starting to peel apart at the edges, so I'm pretty lucky it expires soon.

I don't think you guys quite get it, those cards are honestly total garbage; I have this one debit card from my foreign currency account that I've never even carried in my wallet because I probably only need it once a month, so it just sits there in a folder with my banking documents, and yet all the lettering has already rubbed off even though I haven't even had it for two months.
I guess someone else on this thread mentioned in a PDF how quickly the print wears away, and maybe the signature strip does the same thing too.

Yeah, I mean, it’s just that on all my cards, that strip keeps peeling off into a hundred tiny little pieces, which is really what I was getting at.
Opening a foreign currency account... in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
analogowl7 said:Hey there, so I went ahead and set up a foreign currency account at Bank of America today, specifically in Euros. My main goal here is just to handle some online payments using my debit card, but I have a few lingering questions about how this all works.

First off, if I were to deposit, say, $5 into the account, am I going to get hit with some sort of transaction fee just for making that deposit?

Also, if I happen to deposit funds in U.S. dollars, does the system just automatically convert those over to Euros, and if so, what kind of conversion fees should I be expecting to see?

I was also wondering about the easiest way to check my balance—is there a specific fee for checking it, and can I just manage everything through their online banking portal?

Lastly, could someone clarify what the annual maintenance fees look like for holding an account like this?

I think they charge maybe five bucks or so a month for online banking, $2.75 depending on how things go, I guess.

If you actually use the account during the month, like at JPMorgan Chase where it might be $1.75 monthly, then you pay, but if there isn't any activity, I suppose there wouldn't be any fees that month.

vividranger8 said:So, there’s really no such thing as a card where you "don't need a PIN"—it’s more like the merchant's bank decides whether they want a PIN or if just a signature will cut it for that specific transaction. Usually, with credit cards, a signature is enough, but honestly, that's not a set-in-stone rule.

But honestly, nobody ever actually checks that signature anyway, and it's kind of hard to sign the card when there's no room left because that white security strip with the three-digit code is covering the back where you're supposed to sign, so you basically can't even do it if you wanted to.
