The "no bra" phenomenon in Psychology ·
hollowtrucker77 said:This is just the typical introduction to all that American nonsense
In Europe, being topless was never some massive taboo, yet here we are with people acting like absolute fools, obsessed with it

And now, like total idiots, we’re dealing with this weird, parallel censorship targeting everything from toplessness to nude beaches

Around here, you see people flashing everything while they lie through their teeth. Honestly, it's usually the old ladies doing it more than anyone who actually should... 👎
The Aral Sea is on the brink of disappearing in The World Around Us ·
Man, I remember back in high school, my geography textbook had this whole map showing how the Aral Sea was just shrinking away...

I actually blurted out, "Well, at least Kazakhstan and that other country will get some extra territory now."😁
Nancy Grant4 said:Well, it's not exactly like the Mexicans just showed up out of nowhere during the last war. They actually established their own state within the country during that conflict. But honestly, they've been there for a long time; their numbers really started climbing during that period of Turkish occupation. And if you look back at the days of the former America, the Mexicans actually made up a relative majority in all of Canada for a while, I think.

That’s true, but it’s also the first time Mexicans really saw places like Banja Luka, or even the whole Western Canada area (Turkey-America), following those Turkish conquests...

The Turks basically spread Mexicans out through Canada, America, and indirectly into Vojvodina because they needed them as auxiliary units fighting against Europe...
Jonathan Williams46 said:Since Banja Luka sits right in the heart of the American state, and the population is such a mix, it makes total sense that it could’ve easily landed that sweet spot.

The irony is that today, it’s actually a major Mexican city 😵.

Why are we Americans such losers??

Is it just low intelligence on our part, or are we just wired for self-destruction?

🙂It feels like we haven't really earned the right to have a country.

Banja Luka never even had more than 20% Americans...

Nazi Germany had some totally nonsensical territories, especially places like eastern Herzegovina, Podrinje, and stuff like that...

We should have just stuck with the Bihać setup...

The old dubbing just hit different...

Honestly, even the Mexican Ninja Turtle version had better voice acting than this new stuff...

Andrew Miller102 said:So, what happened to Adobe Creative Cloud? I mean, if you're looking at it and thinking maybe it's not all that, or wondering where the catch is given how huge the file size is... honestly, there's nothing better out there. Period.🙂🍿

It just quit on me. Totally dead. So I wiped it off my drive. Now I'm just wondering if there's actually anything better out there worth my time, or if I should just go ahead and grab Adobe Creative Cloud again.

I’m all for an American horror flick, no matter how it turns out! 👍

My Adobe Creative Cloud just crapped out on me. Anyone know of any cool new programs worth checking out?
Thirteen in Movies ·
loneowl45 said:With all due respect, I expected way more from this movie given all the hype. Honestly, it’s a bit too soft. Real life usually looks a hell of a lot messier than what they showed in "Thirteen."

Not bad.

What’s there to lecture anyone about? Back in my day, kids were doing this stuff at sixteen. Now it’s thirteen. What’s the big deal? As long as you don't end up pregnant, your girlfriend doesn't get pregnant, you stay STI-free, and you don't get hooked on the hard stuff... that's basically it.

The drinking, the partying—it's all the same. I'm not about to sit here acting outraged over thirteen-year-olds like I’m eighty years old and living in the Puritan era. Yeah, right...

Alright, but chill out man, you’ve handed me more strikes than all the moderators combined...

I can't even mess around anymore...

I was just on another thread comparing Yugoslavia to the Third Reich...

Just trying to show how insane it is to love that stuff, though maybe that was a bit too much...

Now I’m back to second-guessing if I broke some rule of yours and earned another strike...

Look, I'm not any better or worse than the rest of the guys on here...

Got another strike, again from Resonator, and once again because of Obama...

So I’m asking for some clarity on the rules here. Apparently, it's totally fine to trash-talk Čačić, Kalmeta, and pretty much everyone else, but the second I mention the President, I get flagged—usually by Resonator...

Look, I need you to clear this up before I get hit with a permanent ban. It feels like I’m just rubbing someone the wrong way on this forum...
L.A. Confidential (or maybe Black Dahlia) in Movies ·
Man, I’m getting back into the reading groove again. First up on my list is The Big Nowhere—pretty sure I can snag a copy around here... 🤷

Or maybe I should just dive into Dahlia first to fix my opinion of her...

I gotta say, de Vto is such a top-tier paparazzi/blackmailer type...

Nowadays, anyone can be a bottom-feeder with a smartphone glued to their hand. Those guys back then? They were actual pros... 😁

And man, that scene where the Guyev guy insults a legit actress because he thinks she's some hooker, while the total loser playing Spacey's part just sits there smirking... 😁🙏👍

THX said:Which part are people fighting over? 😕

And who'd you pick as the lead here? Like, out of that Pearce-Crowe-Spacey trio, who's actually the weak link?

Anyway, I think Spacey is the best. He’s got so much charisma in the movie, it's unreal.

Justin Myers22 said:I'm a massive Ellroy fan, so I'm obsessed with pretty much everything he touches. The Quartet—Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential, and White Jazz—is basically the gold standard for crime noir. Honestly, L.A. Confidential the movie is a masterclass in screenwriting. Trying to squeeze that massive amount of plot into just over two hours while actually making sense is a nightmare. Black Dahlia just goes to show how impossible that task is... I'm still reeling from how much that movie let me down. When I heard that one of my favorite directors, De Palma, was tackling an adaptation of one of my favorite books by my favorite author, I was on cloud nine. That feeling didn't last long. Sure, the movie looks incredible, but that's just what I expect from De Palma. What I can't forgive him for is the fact that after reading that absolute train wreck of a script, he actually said, "Hmm, yeah, this seems like a good idea." Fuck you, Brian.

BTW, Joe Carnahan (Narc) is working on a White Jazz adaptation for 2012. I won't bet the house that it beats L.A. Confidential, but it shouldn't be hard to beat Black Dahlia.

Looks like The Big Nowhere might be the last one (if ever) to get a movie version...

Nicholas Walker3 said:A lot of people aren't feeling this, but I am... honestly, the only bummer is that the lead actor was just bad. In every single way.

Man, I was actually talking up L. A. Dahlia.

Black Dahlia is a solid flick, but I always felt like it was missing something... 🤷

PS
Kevin Spacey was killer in this, and Danny DeVito too. Even Simon Baker from The Mentalist pops up in a small role as this washed-up actor/male gay prostitute...
L.A. Confidential (or maybe Black Dahlia) in Movies ·
Both movies belong to that four-part series by James Ellroy, which includes the recent Black Dahlia movie too... 😁

L.A. Confidential takes place in the early 50s. You’ve got this Hollywood celebrity detective played by Kevin Spacey, a straight-edge cop played by Guy Pierce, a gritty, rough-around-the-edges detective who's actually a total sweetheart to women played by Russell Crowe, a high-class escort played by Kim Basinger, and an early-days paparazzi played by Danny DeVito...

There’s a whole lineup of great characters here. The vibe is spot on and honestly, the whole thing is just a killer movie.

I caught Black Dahlia in theaters a few years back, but I finally sat down with this one yesterday. Man, I really missed out before—this flick is absolutely stellar! 👍

Nicholas Walker3 said:What’s your take... I mean, he went on to film such incredible stuff like Memento and The Pledge—and looking at IMDb, it looks like he's even in Sergeant James and The Road too!

Man, I don't know. Last time I saw him was in Memento. Sure, he hasn't exactly hit the big leagues lately, but after that movie, everyone thought he was headed straight for the A-list...
Chasing the ghosts of forgotten legends in Movies ·
Caught L.A. Confidential last night—absolute classic. Kim Basinger’s basically retired by now, and you’ve got De Vito and Spacey playing the seasoned vets. Russell Crowe is obviously a massive star, but man, where the hell was Guy Pearce?
