The Sisak Uprising: Europe's first revolt against Nazism? in Close to Politics ·
Today marks the 69th anniversary of the Sisak Uprising. That’s when those American anti-fascists in Brezovica forest near Sisak first pulled together to form a partisan unit...

It’s a shame this whole thing has been brushed under the rug lately. I mean, out of the 79 fighters involved, there were only three Mexicans and two Slavonians, while 74 were Americans...

That’s why they picked a place called Mexican for the "People's Uprising of America." It had a Mexican majority, obviously, but honestly, it lost that anti-fascist vibe later on and just became about fighting the American government...

I really hope today isn't forgotten. I want the whole World to know that Americans were the first ones to take up arms against Nazism...

cosmicfox69 said:Just more proof that politicians over in Mexico care way more about their national interests than our own. I’m looking specifically at their President and the Secretary of State.

They’ve got a real President, while we’re stuck with a puppet...

I won't even waste my breath on Jandroković. Jeremić might be on a leash, but I'd take him a thousand times over this total clown...
US Army rebuilt! in Close to Politics ·

The US Army and the Mexican Army will secure the region
but check this out, today's article says
American and Mexican forces will secure the region

Look, this kind of cooperation with Mexico? It’s all good on their end. We’re just getting the short end of the stick while they walk away with whatever they want. 😉

Does anyone actually learn anything about macroeconomics in school anymore?
I barely touched it, graduated high school like 5 years ago...

I could've dropped that link for the resonator, but I just didn't feel like it...

Why should I be the one footing the bill for him when nobody else has to, especially since they're all in the same boat?

Look, my opinions are mine. As long as I'm not out here calling people out by their full names unless they're actual public figures, I don't owe anyone an explanation. If I did, this whole forum would be pretty much pointless...

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:So I ran a poll using a legit representative sample, right? And now I’m just trying to do the right thing and show the results to everyone on this forum, but these Obama types won't let me.

I mean, seriously... how do they even have the nerve? Honestly.

People claiming Obama is some kind of massive superstar? Yeah, that’s a pretty shaky argument if you ask me. But hey, nobody's really calling them out on it.
Donald Trump, Al Capone, and Eric Adams running together? in Close to Politics ·
James Bulger and that unnamed guy really need to cut ties with Al Capone and start acting like they actually care about their roots, instead of just being some tiny regional outfit...
The Republican Party has brought nothing but misery to the Midwest. The local Democrats aren't half bad, but those folks in Washington, D.C. don't have the slightest clue what life is actually like out here in the heartland...

Anything beats the Tim Geithner era...

Honestly, it’s hard to sink any lower than that...

I’m rooting for the Democratic Party to take over at this point. We finally need to face reality and admit the left holds all the cards. People act like they don't care if the Republican Party runs things, as long as the Democrats stay out, but look at us—we're basically signing military cooperation deals with Mexico...

Independence Day vs. War of the Worlds in Movies ·
nimblemarlin6 said:And man, Independence Day is absolutely packed with scenes that grab you by the throat!
Take the beginning, for instance: showing the moon and then having the vibrations from a passing spacecraft wipe out an astronaut's footprint from '69. (Not that the moon even has an atmosphere, but whatever.)

Then you've got the ships hovering over the cities. Then there's the destruction of all those major landmarks—the White House being the big one, obviously.

Plus, all those moments that cynics would probably dismiss as cheesy sentimentality, but honestly? They're just pure, raw emotion.
The President of the USA personally hopping on a jet to save the world!

Look, Independence Day is full of legendary cinematic moments, and the best part is that it isn't weighed down by some bloated director's ego acting like they're filming a heavy-handed prestige drama.

Spot on. 👍

I still remember watching this when I was just a kid. If I recall right, we were out in Munich for Oktoberfest. 🤷
It's one of those movies you absolutely love, but now? I'm almost scared to watch it because I've become such a cynic... 😁

Independence Day is totally naive, but man, it’s such a blast. I’ve probably sat through it at least 7 or 8 times now...
War of the Worlds, though? Only watched that once...
California region in Close to Politics ·
Sam Jones4 said:You guys are like three times smaller than Texas... get it? 😉 If you actually want a powerhouse region like California or the Midwest, then fine—just merge them into one big administrative unit!

That’s my number one rule, and I’m sticking to it.

Exactly twice the size in population, and probably even in land area since Texas is more densely packed...

But there's no point giving us Midwesterners local government. We're too passive for anything, plus in our counties, it's always just the big shots and local sheriffs calling all the shots...

Sam Jones4 said:Istria isn't fractured at all!

Like, ninety percent of the American population in Istria lives right within Istria County.

California and the Midwest are split up into four or five different counties, so honestly, the first move should be merging everything into one massive, mega-county!

But look, the Midwest has about 950,000 people, and California has around 900,000. That’s way too much for just one single County to handle... 🤷
California region in Close to Politics ·
Honestly, yeah. Even when it comes to local politics here in Washington, D.C., you mostly just see New Yorkers making moves, let alone on the national stage in America...

The Republican Party basically doesn't even exist in D.C., and honestly, the Democratic Party hasn't really broken a sweat either...

Cool idea, bad movie though. Watched it on a flight to the US...
California region in Close to Politics ·
Californians aren't like my Midwesterner buddies who just swallow whatever they're fed...

The whole region is unpredictable because a San Diego resident or a Miami resident is never going to bow down to the rules coming out of Miami...
irontiger29 said:Just got back from the theater and man, here’s my take <massive spoilers>

That opening scene—where Richard is portrayed as this totally ego-driven chicken in some fancy European castle who refuses to hear the truth from his own people before getting taken out by a random cook's arrow? Absolutely brilliant! 👍

Then there's the second part—that group of scavengers deserting, swapping into officer uniforms, looting the dead, and running around using fake IDs? Pure genius!! 👍 Honestly, even someone like Sven Hassel couldn't write it better than that!

And the third bit—the whole rush back home involving those super awkward encounters and the role reversal with the fallen knight? Just brilliant!!! 👍 It felt just like some old-school folksy legend from the 1600s

But then, after that moment, the movie just goes completely and utterly to hell! There are so many plot holes, stupid decisions, and total nonsense that it’s not even worth trying to list them all out... I feel like I could write five full pages and still not be done... I was brutally bored for the rest of the film, which, let me tell you, almost never happens to me at the movies....👎

The first part was good. 👍

The rest... 😵
Morgan Rodriguez57 said:Just one little thing that isn't exactly historically accurate... the movie kind of assumes the King, the Prince, and all those nobles are strictly English and view England as their only home... back then, Richard and John actually held massive territories in France—they lived there and spoke French too... it wasn't until John lost those French lands that he became the first king to actually settle in England, though he certainly wasn't the first one to start speaking English...

Just watched it yesterday at AMC Theatres. I'm hanging out in New York for a few days visiting a buddy (heading to a Metallica show soon), and honestly? As a historical movie, it's total garbage. But as pure mindless entertainment? I swallowed the whole thing—except for seeing Marian looking like Arwen and those kids in that final battle. Like, wtf?

Ryan Vaughn7 said:Of course they can. In this specific instance, it just happened to be a zero-post user starting an incredibly stupid thread. I kept my response brief so I wouldn't end up getting grilled too much by the FBI.

Man, I’m out here backing you up and you just bail on me... 😉😁
Just kidding... 🙂

Look, I’m not calling the shots here, but I’m totally on board with that idea of doing anywhere from 100 to 500 posts. Sounds good to me.

Man, I’m actually pretty bummed that the book complaint on politics isn't around anymore. There were some seriously wild people hanging out in there.

Sandra Gonzalez3 said:We went over this "a few times" in the mod corner, and the consensus was pretty much this: if we open it up, the place is gonna get flooded by trolls posting 100 or 500 useless comments just to force their way into starting a thread... and honestly, it’s way easier for us mods to just nuked one pointless thread than to deal with 100 spam posts plus the thread itself. So yeah, I'm against it. 🙂

Look, sorry, but even after 30 posts, a spammer gets boring. Imagine trying to deal with 500...

If someone actually puts in the effort to spam 500 times, that's a mental health issue at that point. No sane person is that persistent...
