Borat, Brüno, or Ali G: Who's the best? in Movies ·
These feature films are pretty mediocre at best. His real peak was definitely those half-hour episodes back when he was still flying under the radar, even over in the USA.
9 (2009) in Movies ·
Here is the link to the short version of the film. It’s honestly too good to miss—definitely worth a watch. Alongside Arc, this ranks as one of my absolute favorite animated shorts
A Kramer vs. Kramer? In my opinion, it’s the definitive film on marriage.
On another note: good luck hunting for a job with a psychology degree. I don't mean to sound cynical, but you're going to need some serious luck.
J.C.V.D. (2008) in Movies ·
When I first heard that Jean-Claude Van Damme was up for Best Actor at the Sundance Film Festival, I honestly wasn't sure how to feel about it. But after sitting through JCVD, there wasn't even a question: that nomination is well-deserved. It’s genuinely refreshing to see this level of creativity and originality popping up in Hollywood lately. The film hits all the right notes—plenty of humor, solid action, tension, and touches of drama—yet everything flows together perfectly. The direction is nothing short of brilliant. I haven't come across this director before (this is only his second feature film), but you'll definitely want to keep an eye on him.🙂 One of the most original films released back in 2008. 9/10
P.S. That Intro scene set to Baby Huey's music is easily one of the best openings in cinema history.

Jerry Adams71 said:Great movie. I think it was released here under the title Lost Brotherhood or something along those lines.

I’m pretty sure the American distributors gave it that exact title too. Besides, this isn't your typical old-school war flick where characters like Bat or Lubis just follow orders blindly. It’s layered, deep, and incredibly well-paced. In my opinion, it's the best war movie out there, right up there with Full Metal Jacket.

Who exactly is responsible for this absolute disaster?

I checked out mentally a long time ago. I'm fairly certain Jonathan Collins43 is either someone who makes trolling a full-time hobby or just a kid.
The movie is absolute garbage—purely unwatchable trash. Even the 1,700 people over on IMDb seem to agree, given they dragged the rating down to a pathetic 3.7. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a score that abysmal.
Directors who totally missed the mark in Movies ·

By the way, I think American Graffiti is such a great, nostalgic flick. Lucas wasn't always the "questionable" director people make him out to be today... Star Wars was basically his meteoric rise and then his massive crash. Wish I’d caught this sooner...

Well, would you look at that!
I had completely forgotten about American Graffiti...😢 An excellent film,
It really is a pity Lucas didn't utilize his talent more frequently. He left himself a directorial "gap" of twenty-two years (1977-1999). Quite unfortunate.
Zeitgeist ~ Addendum in Movies ·
Chris Ruiz said:I respect everyone's perspective, and it’s perfectly clear that I live in a conservative, right-leaning, hardcore Catholic country...

As a left-leaning, hardcore atheist, I view this movie—and other "Zeitgeist"-style films—as nothing more than fabrications. Nowadays, it is incredibly easy to lure people in with various conspiracy theories, especially when they lean on things like 9/11 or religious themes and similar nonsense. The ideas might sound intriguing at first glance, but they read like heavy science fiction. It always comes down to evidence, evidence, evidence... Since there isn't any, I find it difficult to take the authors of these films or the writers of these "conspiracy" books seriously.
Dancing with Bashir (2008) in Movies ·
The animation is excellent, though the soundtrack actually takes the lead for me. Between the visuals and the composition, the film gave me major Waking Life vibes, even if the actual subject matter and themes are worlds apart. Really solid work—8/10.

Michelle Flores40 said:All told, the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon resulted in about 40 deaths over a ten-year span.

Why does the body count even matter here? Does the fact that they killed "roughly 40 people" suddenly transform them into ethical terrorists? 🙄I don't see the logic in obsessing over these statistics.🤷>
Best Movie + Soundtrack Combos: Top 5 in Movies ·
So, just a quick thought—it suddenly crossed my mind, that final scene from... Texas, California There’s something about that scene where Travis walks away while Ry Cooder’s guitar starts wailing in the background. It hits hard. I also found the sequence from... Fences Where exactly does Sibeline stitch those cut blades while Agla sevdam thumps in the background? And of course, you can't forget the essential Morricone : in good. Good, bad, or ugly. The track is called The trio-believe. I think anyone who’s actually sat through the movie understands exactly what we're talking about here. For a few bucks more. Music for that final showdown. I’m talking about the scene that kicks off right when Clint sets his watch down on the dusty ground.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sorry, I just didn't feel like hunting down the links.

Well, damn. I didn't realize that. I just assumed it might be, given the way it was shot.
Thanks👍

Mucan's work here is clumsy yet absolutely brilliant. It’s been a while since I last sat down with it. That was actually my first introduction to the Dogma style—all handheld camera work and zero musical score. It didn't miss a beat when it came to delivering those raw, unfiltered emotions.

goldenhound32 said:I actually started watching Blood Diamond and had to shut it off.

Well, you missed the part where Leonardo DiCaprio pulls out his cell phone right in the middle of a firefight, bullets whizzing past his head, just to call his girlfriend over in Europe and tell her she's the love of his life.🤮
Defiance (2008/2009) in Movies ·
Given the director's track record, I'm expecting a massive dose of overblown sentimentality.
Chinatown (1974) - Roman Polanski in Movies ·
It’s been ages since I last sat down with this one. Honestly, a rewatch is long overdue.
I still vividly remember that incredible sense of atmosphere and tension. All things considered: a top-tier classic.
