Benjamin Robinson31 said:Just hand strikes, or maybe elbows and knees too.

If it’s just hands and great cardio, you’re looking at boxing. Of course, boxing isn't just swinging wildly; you’re working on footwork, slipping punches, all that...
Hands and feet, but no elbows or knees—that’s kickboxing.
Hands and feet, combined with elbows and knees—now we’re talking Muay Thai.

In none of these disciplines are you obligated to step into a ring for competition, or even to participate in sparring. It all comes down to what you want out of it. Though, honestly, I doubt you won't feel the itch to try some light sparring after a few months of shadowboxing, hitting focus mitts, or pounding the heavy bag. Don't worry, nobody is going to jump you🙄; people don't train combat sports because they're idiots. And no one is going to toss you to the strongest guy in the gym just to watch you get broken🙄. If a coach does put you in a session, they’ll make sure the other person "goes easy," because actual morons are much rarer in these gyms than people tend to think...
Where did this idea come from that you have to compete?🤷

I’m sitting here wondering if it’s actually wise to get back into training or if I should hold off. Would getting back under the bar help the recovery process, or am I just asking for more damage?
What’s your take?
(I was training Kempo)

What if you end up needing another round of physical therapy? Honestly, it's probably better to hold off on training for another two or three months rather than creating a whole new set of issues for yourself...😉

I’m definitely not one of those groups you mentioned—not even the shadowy mastermind behind the scenes—but I still feel personally attacked here.😁
It honestly gets under my skin.😠 Especially when someone—and it feels like you have this little habit of doing it, too😕 (EDIT: You definitely do.🙄 ) starts a sentence in plain American English and then just drops in English slang or random terms mid-stream.

Like this:

...what kind of imagination is that? I could write an entire novel with that much headspace...
It just doesn't strike me as the brightest idea. but then again, love doesn't ask permission, right?

CNN is reporting that a five-year-old from Mexico is very likely patient zero. kid is alive and well

It really grates on me, though I didn't want to be a total partybreaker.

FUCKING SHIT!!!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, no way they did it! adfghsdfrgfbgfb, my god!

It was going so well; of course, I should have known it couldn't be right. Not only two episodes in.
fucking...

Listen, kid, I’d give you a hard time for a post like that in person, and you'd quickly realize that you don't talk to me like that—if not before, then certainly after you get a reality check.🙂

And the first step toward that level of annoyance is those people who write phonetically using "ch" or "sh" instead of using proper American spelling rules...

Well, in that case, you've probably seen Philosophy of a Knife too. I have it sitting on my shelf at home, but I haven't been able to carve out the time to sit down and watch it. Apparently, it's that same kind of pseudo-documentary, messed-up kind of thing. Is it worth committing, what, over three hours of my life to it?😕
Cannibal Holocaust in Movies ·
This movie is absolute garbage. It’s not even about the violence or the disturbing scenes—I mean, there are plenty of films out there that tackle those themes way better than this—it’s just fundamentally a bad film.👎 It reminds me of those low-budget flops starring Chuck Norris or Dolph Lundgren.

Oh really? And where exactly would you put it? Under Philosophy? Spirituality? Politics? Nowhere at all?🙄

rowdyhawk10 and the rest of you, why isn't something like Satanism—where Lucifer is treated as the supreme deity—considered a Religion?🤷 Just give me one legitimate argument.
And honestly, the sheer intolerance of refusing to let Satanism be a top-tier topic is telling...👎

If I were to start a thread on the Baha'i Faith, would you guys slap a "1,000 reasons why" label on it immediately? Or is that one also deemed "unsuitable" by certain people, despite being arguably the most peaceful and tolerant Religion out there? Even if it only has about 5 or 6 million followers...🙄
Why is this kind of content being approved on the forum? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m jumping back into this thread after reading a fair amount of nonsense, most of which seems to be coming from self-proclaimed "believers."😉 First off, they just don't seem to grasp that Satanism isn't some monolithic religion or singular belief system. It’s actually a loose collection of ideas that are often wildly different or even directly at odds with one another, all tucked under the same label. You’ve got theistic types—monotheists, polytheists, pantheists, pagans, you name it—then you have the skeptics, and then there are the atheists. To some, Lucifer is a literal deity; to others, he’s just a figure or demon pulled from Christian lore; and to a third group, the whole thing is just nonsense for children and fools. Furthermore, many branches of Satanism possess all the hallmarks of a formal faith, which is why they belong in the Religion section.

NQR: Does atheism count as a religion? Just a reminder that by any standard definition, atheism IS NOT a religion, regardless of how much Catholics or similar groups try to argue otherwise.😉
Should we also purge "Why Atheism?" or "Atheism - 1000 Reasons Why..." and similar topics from the Religion section?

😕 Have you been hitting the craft beers a little too hard or something?
Grace Diaz76 said:What are you even talking about? You seriously missed the mark on that one...😲

Wait, what?😕

Yeah, I honestly think it should be done: either by placing ads directly on the Forum, or...
Maybe it’s time we consider moving toward a subscription model to finally get rid of those ads...

How do you think a forum like this—and the staff running it—should actually stay afloat? Is it just going to be based on the good intentions of the community? Donations? Or should the team be expected to pay for everything out of their own pockets...
Grace Diaz76 said:And you could always just stop falling for April Fools' pranks and subscription scams...

:asshole:

Honestly, I don't get it. Who is actually so incompetent that they can't just open Chrome, type a few keywords into a search engine, and find the answer to their own problem? If they want to complain about the lack of ads, they can just pay for a premium membership to use the Forum without them—especially since those ads are what fund the entire staff and keep this place running...☕
Michelle Adams58 said:There’s no way I can get to my private messages while he’s up there... I have to wait for all those damn little stars to stop dancing around my eyes... honestly, it's just incredibly annoying🙄🙄 🙄
Or at least move him somewhere else

Look, you could always just pay the site an annual or monthly membership fee. Help them out with some alternative funding, and then you'd probably get a version of the site without any ads at all☕

Until then, either deal with it or just walk away☕

Alright, so I finally made the call. I'm actually going to start training some kind of combat sport. Spent way too much time weighing my options between Muay Thai and MMA, but honestly, MMA just looks more fun, so yeah, that’s the move.

Problem is, I'm living right in the middle of the city, so I'm torn on which gym to hit up: the one over in Dubrava or the one in Trešnjevka. I know Trešnjevka is closer to me, but I'm wondering about the actual quality of the coaching. My buddy trains at the Dubrava spot, so I could head there, but then again, Trešnjevka is right around the corner. What do you guys think?

Just a heads-up though—I've never actually stepped foot in a ring or anything. I've just watched a ton of fights on TV, haha.

Honestly, just go hit a few classes at both locations—try the downtown one a couple of times and then head out to the suburbs. You'll figure out which vibe suits you best once you're actually on the mats...🤷

You're acting like an expert here, so why don't you explain it? Show me that you actually know what you're talking about.🙄

Kendo: You mostly train in full armor. You aren't using a real katana; instead, you use a bokken—which is basically a wooden sword, usually made from bamboo—in various weights. There are plenty of clubs, and there are actual competitions...

Kenjutsu: This is done with a piece of wood shaped to look like a katana. There’s no armor involved, and when you're starting out, there isn't even any sparring. There are no competitions either. It’s more about preparation for the actual katana...
As far as I know, the only Kenjutsu masters in the city are Miran Škerl and Dinko Batur.

If you want to prepare yourself for handling a katana without accidentally maiming yourself, Kenjutsu is the way to go.
But honestly, I doubt you'll ever find yourself "fighting" anyone, not even with a wooden sword...

If what you're actually looking for is combat, then look into Kendo. Just remember, it isn't the same thing as Kenjutsu—a bokken just isn't a katana...

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Fedor Emelianenko in the Dream Grand Prix? in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Peter Fowler4 said:According to specialized combat sports outlets, America's top heavyweight, Mirko Cro Cop, might snag an invitation to the Dream Grand Prix. With the legendary Fedor Emelianenko also reportedly in the mix, a rematch between these two heavyweights could actually become a reality...

Cro Cop is currently recovering from surgery and should be back in the ring before we know it. By early May, Mirko Cro Cop plans to ramp up to full training sessions, aiming to prepare for a massive UFC spectacle scheduled for June 13th at Madison Square Garden. We don't know who his opponent will be yet, and it’s not even a hundred percent certain if Cro Cop will pull the trigger on that Madison Square Garden appearance...

>> VIDEO: I'd love to see both Dream and UFC at the same time

Then again, rumors are swirling out of Japan about another Dream Grand Prix being organized, potentially featuring fighters from all weight classes. Word on the street is that the Japanese organizers want to bring in names like Cro Cop, Fedor Emelianenko, Semmy Schilt, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Masakatsu Funaki for this tournament, according to Profightstore.com...

>> VIDEO: Fedor knocks out Tim Sylvia with a right hand

If a tournament like that actually gets off the ground, there's a real shot at seeing Cro Cop and Fedor Emelianenko facing off once again. It would be a sequel to that epic battle back in 2005 when Fedor managed to scrape by against Mirko, maintaining his spot at the top of the mountain. But honestly, we're still a long way from seeing that happen...

Just as a reminder, Mirko loves these Grand Prix tournaments. He actually took home the crown in one back in 2006 after grinding through Minowa, Yoshida, Silva, and Barnett...

(US News)div>

As if he could handle both the UFC and DREAM🤣
Like a kid dreaming...👎
Fedor is going to bury him. Unfortunately, Mirko just doesn't have that specific edge that all the great champions possess...🤷

By the way, Peter Fowler4, watch your step when opening new accounts: if a user under a ban starts creating clones, they can get hit with an instant permanent ban across all their handles. If a real moderator catches wind of it, it's "hasta la vista, baby"...😉

Ninjutsu training in Annapolis in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
wiredhound19 said:I'm actually pretty interested in combat sports, but I'm having a hard time deciding which direction to go... any recommendations? Is there anything decent for martial arts or maybe even gymnastics over in Annapolis if you happen to know...?

In Annapolis, you've got options like ninjutsu or kickboxing;
there’s a local kickboxer from the area who started out training in Krav Maga. I’ve caught him at a few seminars here and there, though I'm not entirely sure what his current level or stage is—you might want to check with Kamakura-san, he probably knows more about it...

As for Master Bartolin, there's a lot of ground we could cover there, but I won't dive into it just yet. Maybe once Panzer officially enters the fray... 😬 I'll give him the floor first.

He’s probably picturing someone carrying a sword strapped to their back, kind of like Leonardo—you know, that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle with the blue mask.

Or maybe he’s going for that Braveheart look:

My take? Sure, you can carry it, provided you happen to be a ninja turtle or a Scotsman...😁

I don't know, I was just sitting there thinking about how much energy we pour into these little digital debates, almost like they actually matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s funny, really... how quickly a conversation can turn from something interesting into just a lot of noise. We spend all this time trying to be heard, trying to prove a point, when most of it just drifts away anyway. It makes you wonder if we're all just shouting into the wind, hoping for an echo that isn't coming... kaže:
I started from the very beginning, but I still haven't managed to find anything concrete... 😁 Well, I was just working my way through from the very end, and I think I finally stumbled onto something...
Hey there.😉

Look, don't worry about it. I'm not exactly the type of guy who’s going to throw a tantrum because my nail chipped or something...
Actually, I don't even have much of them left. But whatever, it doesn't really matter... 😁

I mean, if you ask me... I was reading somewhere that Muay Thai is really more of a ring sport. It’s great for competition, sure, but what I’m actually looking for is something that might—God forbid—actually be useful on the street. Something that works when things get messy...
As far as I can tell, that’s Krav Maga, isn't it...? 🙂

👍Hey everyone, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels like my stomach does a complete somersault whenever those damn sirens start wailing...

If I were fifteen years old right now, with the perspective I have today, I’d head straight into Muay Thai. It provides such an incredible foundation for almost anything else you might want to learn, not to mention the self-defense aspect. Once you have that base, moving into Krav Maga clubs becomes much easier—you could just drop in for a few sessions or spend a couple of months there to get a better feel for it. You could even catch seminars from world-class instructors when they make their annual rounds through cities like Chicago or New York... From there, you just stick with whatever resonates with you more, or maybe try to balance both if you actually have the time, the budget, and the drive... though, of course, that all depends on whether you actually enjoy what you're seeing in the ring. Maybe Muay Thai isn't even your thing, but you aren't going to figure that out until you've put in at least a dozen sessions...

Right now, most of the local martial arts clubs are over at the State Fair... though you can still find plenty of Muay Thai gyms around downtown or up near the West Side.
