Michael Long4 said:Hi everyone, I wanted to jump in here with a few questions because I’m feeling pretty confused... My period is about 4 or 5 days late. My last one started on December 7th, and we had intercourse on December 26th.
I’ve already taken two Clearblue tests, and both came back negative. However, I’m experiencing this intense cramping and discomfort, almost like my period is about to start any second now. On top of that, I just feel constantly exhausted and on edge... I tried testing again today, and I was honestly so disappointed by the result...
I also seem to be heading to the bathroom much more frequently than usual...
Is it still possible that I could be pregnant...? 😢

You might actually be pregnant—it could just be that your hormone levels aren't high enough yet to trigger a positive result. A coworker of mine went through the exact same thing. Your best bet is to head to a clinic for a blood test; that’ll give you a definitive answer. Good luck! 😉
Tyler Ramos said:The birthing stool is absolutely driving me insane. I honestly don't understand why we aren't allowed to give birth in any other way besides lying flat on our backs 🤷
It’s almost as if they expect me to just teleport the baby straight out of my womb... it isn't some vague, revolutionary concept either (
I suspect it’s mostly because the supine position is just easier for the doctors, which feels pretty crappy when you consider that the mother should probably be the priority, right?
It's just so frustrating.
My husband happens to be an MD, and even he gave me this look like I was some kind of alien when I started bringing up alternative birthing positions. Honestly, there were moments where I just wanted to whack him over the head with a heavy frying pan...

🤣 So, even during pregnancy, your husband is getting on your nerves. 😂 😘
Anthony Allen9 said:The embryo doesn't "implement," it implants. And if implantation didn't happen, there's no HCG hormone for the test to pick up. If yours was positive first and then you got your period, that's an actual pregnancy—it's called a biochemical pregnancy. It doesn't mean the test was wrong. It just showed what was happening at that exact moment. I mean, how would a test know it's going to be a biochemical pregnancy and just show a negative right away?

Look, honey, I'm just repeating exactly what my OB-GYN told me. Plus, my own experience backs this up—I've spent way too much money testing before my period and basically just giving myself a panic attack for nothing. Any doctor will tell you to just wait until your period arrives. That’s just my take based on what I've been through, and everyone can do whatever they want.

And please excuse my slip of the tongue—my mistake. 😉
Anthony Allen9 said:Why would it HAVE TO BE LATE for the test to work??? Sure, it might be more accurate once you've actually missed a period... but I took a test before my period was even late and it was positive. You gonna tell me that was invalid? Because if it was, then why am I currently looking like a pregnant whale with a baby kicking me in the gut?
And besides, who actually knows exactly when their period is "late" unless they had an ultrasound to confirm ovulation or they're tracking basal body temperature? Even if cycles are usually regular, they don't stay that way forever. 🥳

No

Because I’ve been there too—taking tests way before my expected period just because I was desperate to get pregnant. One of them showed a positive, but I wasn't actually pregnant. My OB-GYN later explained that these tests can give all sorts of false readings if you don't follow the directions. And the instructions clearly state to wait until after your missed period. ☕
Obviously, an early test might show fertilization has occurred (because it has), but you could still end up getting your period, which effectively "washes away" that fertilization. In that case, it isn't technically a pregnancy—even though fertilization happened, the embryo failed to implant, or rather, failed to stick. I've detailed my own experience in a few posts earlier. 😉
Nicholas Foster21 said:I’m expecting my period soon—I have that familiar tugging sensation in my lower abdomen, coupled with those typical tender breasts—but this test has me feeling a bit conflicted. It’s confusing, really; I know these things aren't always 100% accurate, yet part of me is desperately hoping it actually is

Breast tenderness can definitely be a pregnancy symptom, but at this point, all you can do is wait. Fingers crossed! 😉
So, I ended up getting my period right on schedule—which, naturally, meant pregnancy was totally off my radar. Once it passed, though, my breasts started aching and swelling quite a bit. My first thought? Just some lingering hormonal leftover from a potential pregnancy. But a colleague at work—who’d been through a nearly identical ordeal—insisted I take a test. Sure enough, it came back positive about ten days after that "false" period finished. I called my OB-GYN immediately to explain the situation, but he told me there was no point coming in yet; I would have only been four weeks along, and an ultrasound wouldn't show much anyway. He just told me to wait until my next cycle and check back then. Well, the next cycle arrived, though the bleeding was a little lighter this time, lasting maybe three or four days. It wasn't until after that second bout of bleeding that I finally went in for an exam, where they confirmed I was actually about six weeks along. Because of the spotting, I had to go on strict bed rest until week twelve to make sure everything stayed secure. Thank God, everything turned out fine—I'm currently twenty-one weeks in and having a perfectly healthy pregnancy. 🙂
Even if conception actually happened, you could—God forbid—end up having a period seven days later that wipes out the embryo without you even realizing it. That’s why doctors here in the States usually tell you not to bother with testing until you've actually missed your period. For instance, I was bleeding almost as heavily as my usual cycle for two months while I was pregnant. My OB-GYN just explained that in those early stages, there's nothing to be done but wait and see if the pregnancy sticks—it's basically just nature's way of weeding things out.
Nicholas Foster21 said:I am well aware that I should probably wait until my period is actually due, but my patience has always been somewhat limited,
My cycle typically runs about 30 to 31 days—I’m expecting my next one around January 17th—and it is usually quite predictable,
However, I simply couldn't hold off any longer and decided to take a test. It showed a faint line—definitely visible, though—and I felt an immediate surge of excitement. Now, I find myself wondering if I should truly allow myself to hope, or if I'm just getting ahead of myself.

mistyridge5, I wasn't trying to be rude—everything you said is true—but it’s specifically because of what she just shared that I think waiting for her period is the better move. She could take five more tests before then and still be left in this exact same state of nervous, frantic anticipation. It just seems counterproductive. 🤷
Ladies, I know you’re all itching for answers, but please—just wait until you've actually missed your next period! Honestly, does anyone even bother reading the fine print on these pregnancy tests? Every single one of them clearly states that your period MUST be late for the results to mean anything at all—otherwise, you're just wasting your time.😳 😉

So I ran down to the CVS yesterday and grabbed a test, then swung by a Walgreens right after to pick up another one... and I'm not even kidding, one was positive and the other was negative. How is that even possible? I have zero clue! The one from the pharmacy had a faint line, but this other one didn't show anything except the control line... 🙂😵
Honestly, I don't have a clue either. I'm not even going to stress about what's happening downstairs right now; I'm just gonna wait until my appointment with the OBGYN at the end of the month... we calculated that my period should hit in a few days anyway... even if it doesn't show up, I am done wasting money on tests.
But man, this whole phase is a total nerve shredder... seriously... uh 🤷

Look, honey, it's obviously just too early for a clear reading. When I got pregnant, I only did two tests—the first one gave me a faint line slightly after the three-minute mark, but the next day, the line was clear as day. Though, in my humble opinion, you wouldn't see any line at all if those hormones weren't there. But hey, whatever 🤷 Your best bet is to just wait for your period. 😉 Good luck!
My husband is driving me absolutely insane with his total lack of maturity. He isn’t out partying or anything—he stays home—but he’s just so incredibly childish about everything. Honestly, he’s always been this way, but I think it’s only hitting me now because I’ve actually grown up and expect him to do the same—though I’m starting to fear he hasn't even realized what's actually happening. It’s like he thinks we're getting a puppy instead of a baby. 🤷
James Cox6 said:To be honest, I didn't read the whole thing closely enough..
Let's look at the details again...

Dec 17th - Day 1
Assuming her cycles are regular at 28-29 days, ovulation would have been around New Year's. That makes today 8 DPO, or Day 23

You're right 🙂, I was just skimming... she should probably just wait until her period is due and then take a test.

Good grief, I honestly thought I had misread it the first time—so I went back to double-check. 😁
silentjackal7 said:Oh, I almost forgot... my last period started on December 17th of last year. 😁

If her last period was December 17th, then her next one should be around January 13th—assuming she’s actually regular. Since today is January 8th, if she's pregnant, she’s about a week along. 🙄 Or did I completely miss the mark here?
James Cox6 said:What do you mean by that? 🤷
You've got me a little confused... what do you mean "until she gets her period"? If she's pregnant, she won't get it at all.

Look, I took a Beta test 11 days post-ovulation—so about 3 or 4 days before my period was due—and it was 40.

Anything over 5 counts as pregnancy. And I didn't just check out of curiosity; it's critical for me. By week 5, I need a confirmed pregnancy via bloodwork AND an ultrasound to prove it's in the uterus before I can start the medication I require.

So, I still don't follow your logic. 🤷

It’s probably easier for her to just wait for her period to arrive. That’s usually the first real sign—from what I gather, her period hasn't even been late yet, which means she'd only be about two weeks along. No standard test is going to give her a reliable answer right now, other than the specific one you mentioned—but why go through the hassle of getting blood drawn and wasting money on tests when her period is due in a few days? Honestly, if she's that anxious, she can go get the bloodwork done, but once she sees her doctor, the first thing they're going to ask is whether her period has started.🤷
James Cox6 said:Why don't you just go get a beta hCG test done?
That’s the only way to be 100% sure.
No dilemma there.🙂

Honestly, there is zero point in doing anything until her period actually arrives—for heaven's sake. 🙄
silentjackal7 said:I'm heading straight to CVS first thing tomorrow morning to grab a new test, then I guess I'll just wait a few days and see what happens, damn it. It's like none of you guys have any clue either🤷.
I bought the test because I’ve been feeling nauseous every single morning... it feels like something is actually moving around in my lower abdomen... so I checked the calendar and realized we were most active right during my fertile window
.
And then I get this incredibly "precise" result that says positive-negative🤷

But honestly, I just have this gut feeling that something is actually happening...

We told you what we know (which is exactly what any OB-GYN would tell you if you asked): stop buying tests until you actually miss your period. A friend of mine had two negative tests even two weeks after her period was late—she was pregnant, but the hormone levels in her urine were just too low, i.e., it was too early. If you're feeling nauseous, it's likely not from pregnancy—even if you *are* pregnant—BECAUSE IT'S TOO EARLY. ☕ But hey, feel free to keep throwing money at tests if that's your idea of fun.
My aunt—my uncle's wife—is driving me absolutely insane. She’s constantly dropping these unsolicited, nonsensical nuggets of wisdom, but I can't exactly shut her down since she’s a nurse at a major maternity ward and I might actually need her expertise later. What really gets under my skin is the constant lecturing about my diet—and let's be clear, I don't touch junk food; I eat balanced, home-cooked meals every single day, maybe just eating a bit more now that I'm not obsessing over calories like I used to. Still, it's always, "don't overdo it on the food," or if we go to the mall, "why would you go somewhere that crowded? You should be out getting fresh air instead." Then there's the interrogation: "Have you decided how you're going to deliver? Natural, water birth, or...?" I'm only five months along and haven't even attended a prenatal class yet🙄. Honestly, it's enough to make anyone lose their mind🙂
silentjackal7 said:Man, Justin Baker3, I don't think I've ever even seen your username before, let alone met you, so it makes sense... but honestly, I just want to give you a massive hug right now. I'm seriously so glad you're here :-D

My period is usually pretty on schedule... based on how things usually go, I should be due in about six days, so that's my only real baseline right now. Then there's the OBGYN. And look, you have no idea how much I'm kicking myself for burning through three tests yesterday. I should've just saved one for the morning, obviously, and I'll definitely be testing first thing tomorrow. But I just don't get why it's giving me different results in the morning versus the afternoon...

If I'm following you correctly, your period hasn't even been late yet? Generally speaking, you shouldn't even bother with pregnancy tests until you've actually missed your period. If you're only a few days along, it's perfectly normal for tests to be inconsistent—there just might not be enough hCG in your system yet for a clear reading. Though, I'm inclined to agree with Justin Baker3; if you caught a positive result this morning, there's a 90% chance you're pregnant. Save your money and stop buying tests until you see if your period actually shows up. Not that it's a guarantee, though—I've had my period while being pregnant before. Anyway, good luck! 😉
James Cox6 said:Nah, I just skimmed it... you read it fine 🙂
elvital - just hold off until January 13th before you run the test.

😘

silentjackal7, let us know how it turns out—fingers crossed! 😉
I keep getting told I’m too thin—as if people are actually looking for my stomach—even though I’ve put on 15 pounds! 🙂
