History was made today!
We’ve never played a game quite like this, and honestly, I doubt we’ll see anything like it again for at least another decade..
It’s wild looking back at how that unfolded.. In the first half, our guys were playing so reserved, heading into the break down by 2. When those Spaniards went up by 6, I started getting seriously worried. We haven't found ourselves in a hole that deep during any other WC..
But then, the comeback started. It took us about 20 minutes of grinding just to claw back the lead, only to find ourselves up by 3 with just three minutes left on the clock! At that moment, I was absolutely convinced it was over—that we were headed straight to the finals..
Of course, it wouldn't be much of a game if it had been easy. That nine-meter shot with only 4 seconds left? It probably shaved a year off my life. When that ball hit the net, I just went numb.. I didn't say a single word until overtime. I was pretty skeptical about how we’d handle the extra period; fatigue sets in, and that last-second goal gave the Spaniards such a massive psychological edge. My heart nearly stopped during that final Spanish attack at 31:31 in the second overtime when Walter pulled off that miracle save, digging out Masipa's shot from the bottom right corner..
More overtime, more nerves, all leading up to the moment Caleb buried that shot to put us up by 2 with 20 seconds remaining. That was it. Everything inside me just exploded.. I think the entire building heard me screaming; I collapsed in front of the TV and started crying like a little kid..
I am beyond thrilled. Thank you, boys!
