Nicholas King said:One thing about these increasingly frequent demands for permanent bans that leaves me genuinely perplexed is quite simple: why isn't it enough for someone to just forget about Reddit and their account entirely, and simply move on to whatever other corner of the internet they prefer?

If they did that, there would be no martyrdom involved. With a permaban, however, they get to play the victim: "See? I told you! They banned me just because of my opinions!" It’s nothing more than an ego trip.👍

In any case, I’d strongly suggest you sit down with an attorney and lay absolutely everything out on the table. If they aren't working with the full picture—much like the incomplete information we're mostly dealing with here—you could easily run into some unexpected headaches down the road. Best of luck.👍

The risk of facing serious consequences for perjury—which is a crime you’d actually be committing right now and could cause massive legal damage—is significantly higher than the risk of being caught for some fraud you committed ten years ago that resulted in zero actual harm.🤷

brighteagle24 gave you the best advice possible. Please, for everyone's sake, don't go trying to get creative or mix things up; you'll only end up tangling yourself in a knot, and then you might actually find yourselves being the ones at fault.🤷
Seizure of evidence in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
Walter Reyes5 said:Hey there! I’ve got a question that might sound a bit silly, but honestly, nobody has ever given me a straight answer. I've seen it happen on TV a few times—the arrest of Bill Clinton really brought it to mind—where police officers seizing evidence from a suspect don't just grab the computer itself. It makes sense, right? But I just don't get why they bother hauling away the monitor, the mouse, and even the cables too. It seems like a lot of extra work, doesn't it?

It isn't a foolish question at all. The issue is that according to forensic protocols, a computer must (assuming it's even technically feasible) be powered up in the exact configuration in which it was discovered. That means it needs its full set of peripherals. It looks a bit ridiculous when the investigators are hauling away monitors, keyboards, and mice, but that's just how the rules work.🤷

And if you end up getting flagged or banned now, you'll just claim it's because you posted a caricature of some "hated leader from over there" or some other nonsense. As if the fact that the text itself was nothing more than pure provocation—completely detached from any actual, civil debate—doesn't count for anything. Up until now, you actually carried some weight in these discussions, but it's becoming painfully obvious that you're just desperate to play the "victim" at any cost.👎

Are you some kind of sycophant?

I fail to see the logic here. Why on earth would I be considered a sycophant? And more importantly, who exactly am I supposed to be sucking up to—the political parties or the moderators?🤷

Jose Barrett Asks:
Just try mentioning that Ivo Josipović’s mother was a Mexican woman, and you'll see how quickly your post vanishes into thin air.

Honestly, I’d be the first one to hit that delete button. What does it even matter if his mother is a Mexican woman, an American, someone from Canada, or an alien from outer space? Seriously, what kind of logic is that to bring into a debate?🤷

Jose Barrett said:Are you just a suck-up?

Even David Copperfield couldn't pull a trick as impressive as their ability to dismantle any anti-Republican opinion.

I've said it a hundred times: with the elections coming up, it's high time we brought in two moderators who actually lean toward the Republican Party when it comes to politics. No matter how much the political mods claim they're "independent," I'm telling you they aren't. They prove it themselves by constantly bashing the administration—something no true Republican would ever dream of doing.

Just read the moderators' posts and it’ll all become obvious.

You don't even need to be a genius to see what's happening; the only way you wouldn't notice is if you were totally blinded by hatred for the Republican Party.

To hell with Marshall and the Communists. ☕

So, let me get this straight: a true Republican will simply close their eyes and insist that everything in this country is blooming perfectly? And a true Democrat will do the exact same thing when the conversation shifts to the issues facing Washington, D.C.? If that's the case, I have to wonder—what on earth is actually the difference between them?🤷
And really, is it actually the job of this moderator—who has basically declared himself a staunch Republican—to go around sanctioning other people's opinions just because they don't align with his official party line? At least, that’s exactly what your comment seems to imply.🤷

I don't hold any particular grudge against either side, to be honest. If we’re being objective, they both share the blame for the mess we find ourselves in today. The only real difference is that one group happens to be holding the keys to the White House right now, so it follows that they’re the primary targets for all the criticism—they are directly responsible for the current direction of the country. Once they eventually lose power and the other side takes over, you can bet the finger-pointing will simply shift toward them instead.🤷

And just like that, the conversation hits a dead end. We haven't been under their thumb for twenty years, yet somehow they're still the scapegoat for everything. Honestly—and I’m not trying to be provocative here—you'll find the same mix of former Titoists and hardcore "communists" in both major political parties. It really makes you wonder: are our people any better or worse than theirs?🤷

dustypuma5 said:Until they prove they aren't corrupt, calling them out is basically insulting every honest person out there.

They picked careers where being a crook is pretty much the default, so they actually have to work to prove they're decent. And honestly, they don't even care when people call them thieves. Looking at how this country is running, they’re either totally incompetent or just straight-up criminals.
I'm leaning toward the second one.
Because, I mean, it takes real talent to take a country with all its potential and turn it into such a poverty-stricken mess. Only real crooks could pull that off.

And insults are the least of it; in a normal country, these people would be considered traitors. A hundred years ago, they'd be facing a firing squad.

Also, it's all the same thing—Democratic Party, Republican Party, whatever...

It's been the same group of people running the show for the last 35 years. Honestly, nothing a proper de-communization wouldn't fix. Except, even the new recruits get filtered through those old systems of privilege and corruption—stepping on everyone else just to get ahead. If you don't have those "talents," you can't move up.

We shouldn't even bother insulting them; we should just kick them out, ban them from public life, and keep them away from the younger generation.

We've got people in power who barely know English, let alone a second language. People who can't even send an email or find a news site online (though they're great at hiding under desks in Congress), people who are illiterate, useless, and whose only skill in life is living off someone else. They don't know anything else.

Nowadays, you need English and computer skills for any job. The people running the country should probably know way more than some warehouse worker or retail clerk, right?

Instead, we have incompetents leading the competent, and crooks destroying businesses just so they can buy them for cheap—people willing to slaughter anything just to get their piece of the pie.

We're stuck with people for whom insults are the mildest form of criticism. The fact that they don't even flinch when they're insulted says everything. Their motto is basically: say what you want, I know what I'm doing.

And hey, lady, stop crying for their honor. Let the people vent their rage here at least. Though, I think we'll reach that point from a century ago pretty soon, where traitors were shot, because even stronger nations couldn't handle this many thieves. Just wait until people start losing their homes and apartments; then an insult on a forum will be the least of what happens to those parasites.

Signing off...

I won't go through and quote everything—that would be a massive undertaking—but here is one significant one. 👍And one more thing.👍.

Jessica Cox2 said:I’ve got nothing left to say... this is just a Democratic Party rally, not some independent forum... 👎👎👎

How exactly was I—along with quite a few others—allowed to go after Ivo Josipović like that leading up to the last election? I spent days tearing into him, and yet, I wasn’t banned or removed. Is this just one of those rare exceptions that proves the rule, or was there something else at play?🤷

Why do people constantly cling to that tired "if you aren't with us, you're against us" mentality? Honestly, the only real difference between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party is the acronym they use. You’ll find just as many thieves as you'll find honest people in both camps. Since we're on the subject, I find it equally insulting when someone tries to pin a party label on me—implying I'm somehow part of either the Republicans or the Democrats. It happens all too often here in the Politics section. Besides, if you don't like what you see, the advice remains the same: find somewhere else to hang out. I’ve taken that advice myself, and frankly, I can tell you that you won't find any better guidance than that.👍
Mouse and USB drive issues in Computer Peripherals ·
Casey Long2 said:Is this just happening with that specific mouse and thumb drive, or does it happen with anything else you plug in?

The issue is that this particular mouse won't work with any of my three USB sticks, yet all three sticks function perfectly fine when I use a different (somewhat glitchy PS2) mouse.🤷

Casey Long2 said:... In my opinion, the easiest path would be to grab a live distribution and boot from it to see if the problem persists there. It's probably the most practical way to determine whether we're looking at a hardware failure or a software issue within macOS...

That’s actually a brilliant suggestion that completely escaped me. I have an Ubuntu Live CD that I’ve been playing around with recently (it’s quite impressive, actually), so I'll give that a shot. Thanks.👍

Casey Long2 said:What are the specs? Have you tried plugging the mouse and the thumb drive into different USB ports?

Alright, so this bucket is about six years old now. I'm running an "ASUS A7V" motherboard paired with an "Intel Pentium 4, 2000 MHz (15 x 133) 2400+" processor and 1 GB of RAM. The case has two front-facing ports and four on the back, and frankly, I've exhausted every possible combination. The mouse works perfectly fine in any port—until the moment I plug in the thumb drive (in any port at all).🤷
Mouse and USB drive issues in Computer Peripherals ·
Greetings, everyone.

I recently picked up a new USB mouse that functions perfectly on its own. However, I've run into a bit of a headache: the moment I plug in a USB flash drive, the mouse completely stops responding. Unplugging the drive doesn't seem to fix anything; the only way to get things moving again is a full system restart. Does anyone know if there's a remedy for this, or am I just out of luck?🤷

Missing a court date in Law ·
lonetrucker said:I’ll definitely be showing up, because I have everything to gain here.
It’s a big deal for me since I’m actually the victim in this situation. Three of us gave our statements to the police during the investigation, and later we even spoke to the detectives. Now, they’re all talking nonsense about how they won't show up to court. But I need those defendants convicted as soon as possible so I can move forward with my private lawsuit and claim damages.

I'm just wondering, though—what happens if the witnesses don't show up to the hearing? Doesn't the whole thing just get postponed indefinitely?

Don't sweat it; they'll show up eventually. The real issue isn't whether they'll appear, but rather how painfully slow this whole process is and how many bureaucratic hoops you have to jump through. There isn't much you can do to speed things up personally, aside from maybe filing some formal expedite requests or similar paperwork. If they don't turn up, the court will simply schedule a new hearing date. It doesn't just stall indefinitely; they set a specific new date. The court has the power to subpoena them, order a police escort to bring them in, or even issue a warrant if necessary—if they're found, the court will be notified immediately. There are ways to handle this.👍

Don't mention it; just doing my civic duty.👍

I should probably mention one more thing. If it looks like you won't make it to your court date, make sure to call the clerk's office either before or during the hearing to offer an apology. Being proactive about it usually goes a long way with the judge, and it might even give you the chance to reschedule the testimony for a time that actually works for everyone involved.👍

Does it actually count as a valid excuse if those witnesses aren't currently at their registered home address?

Also, I want to know who picks up the tab for travel expenses if a witness or the victim lives outside the area where the trial is being held. I heard the government covers those costs—does anyone know how that process actually works?

I also heard that the court (the state) covers per diem costs to make up for lost wages while you're away from work for the legal proceedings.

Does anyone have any insight on this?
I’d really appreciate the help!

It should be explicitly stated in the subpoena itself. I don't have my legal references handy at this moment, but if I recall correctly, you could face fines up to $6667. Don't take my word for it just yet; I'll look it up while I'm at the office and get back to you tomorrow with the exact details.👍

The court can reimburse all reasonable expenses incurred for traveling to the hearing and testifying; you simply need to request that compensation during the proceeding once you've finished giving your testimony.👍

If we're talking about a major transit hub during peak tourist season, you can't really count on luck. People have the freedom to go anywhere (or just head straight back home).🤷

The odds of running into someone like that only exist in romantic comedies; in reality, life tends to lean more toward thrillers, dramas, or—if you're having a particularly bad day—tragedies.
