When is this thread going to be reopened?
Let’s be clear: off-topic chatter is nothing more than noise. It’s unnecessary, it’s tedious, and frankly, it’s a waste of everyone's time. This is especially true when people start reacting to provocative posts made by those who have absolutely no business meddling in moderation duties. If you aren't part of the oversight team, stop sticking your nose where it doesn't belong.

You don't need to go off the deep end with the paranoia. I'll admit we're veering a bit toward chaos, but let's not forget this is a forum. When there aren't any substantial answers or actual topics to sink our teeth into, a little bit of breaking the monotony shouldn't be such a crime, right?🤷

Nicholas Collins68 said:Brian Edwards6, don't mess with me here... I know we haven't exactly been on the best of terms lately, but you have to admit, the subject matter was absolutely top-tier.

Why wouldn't we be on good terms? Just because we don't see eye to eye on certain points doesn't mean I don't respect you (or most of the others here). While I rarely post on the Alternative, I find myself lurking through threads quite often—including this controversial one. I actually agree that the topic was solid and shouldn't have been nuked by the mods. This is a forum, after all; if a few people want to spend their time obsessively connecting dots between random nonsense, let them. A real debate only exists when there’s disagreement on the core issues. If everyone agrees from the jump, there isn't a discussion; there's just a consensus. True discourse happens between people who disagree. It isn't necessary for those opposing views to eventually merge into one, but both sides should walk away having learned something. The real issue is that these threads frequently devolve into personal insults and knee-jerk assumptions. The moderators are certainly part of that dynamic as well. They tend to foster enough paranoia to strip the actual conversation of any meaning. This thread was starting to lean in that direction, which is why I decided to chime in—mostly to inject a little much-needed humor. As for Uber, it was my first time hearing that name; honestly, I misread it at first and thought it was Super Soldier, so I was sitting here wondering why he’d gone and changed such a great avatar.😵And then there’s that paranoid little thread of a conversation suggesting that I was actually right—at least to some degree.🤷

Nicholas Collins68 said:Let’s run through a hypothetical scenario: suppose the government passes a mandate for compulsory microchipping of the entire population, and the authorities order law enforcement to arrest anyone who resists, tossing them straight into federal prison. In a situation like that, would you just roll over and accept it? Or would you actually stand up and rebel, even if it meant losing your job or ending up behind bars yourself?

I cannot get behind the idea of neural chipping. Even if someone approaches this with the best possible intentions, history tells us that such things inevitably morph into their exact opposite. It’s a pattern we see repeated throughout human existence. I certainly agree that there is an immense amount of activity happening behind the scenes that remains completely invisible to the public eye. However, my personal take is that the topics discussed on the Alternative are merely crumbs tossed to the masses to give them something to chew on. People engage with these ideas, they debate, they hunt for data and exchange theories, all to cultivate the illusion that their efforts actually matter—that their lives have direction and that they might eventually trigger some kind of systemic change. In reality, I view these discussions as purely philosophical exercises. They won't change a thing. Even if we reached a turning point where we unmasked every player in the game and managed to overhaul the system for the better, what then? We are only human. Eventually, we would just find ourselves looking for someone to lead us. And what would that look like? We would grant that person power to establish legitimate authority, and we would find ourselves right back where we started. Humans are essentially driven by animalistic instincts, and frankly, there’s no saving us from that. If you ask me, the perfect society is the one depicted in Star Trek. A world where everyone has access to everything they need, where money, war, poverty, and hunger are obsolete, and where everything is left to free will. In that scenario, people could choose to travel and explore simply to better themselves and advance humanity as a whole. But I don't believe that is achievable for us. All our progress and expansion have been built upon conflict and warfare. We have to face the fact that we are inherently flawed; it is a limitation of our biological hardware, no matter how advanced we think our brains are. Evolution might be our only way out, but we have already reached a technological plateau where natural evolution can no longer keep pace with our own complexity.🤷

On another note regarding the whole microchipping debate. What’s the actual point? In the US, there are more smartphones floating around than there are actual people. Everyone carries at least one, and most of us have profiles on half a dozen social media platforms (this forum included), we send endless emails, order everything from Amazon, and so on. We are essentially voluntarily restricting our own privacy far more effectively than any government ever could. We are quite literally our own worst enemies, yet we seem stubbornly incapable of grasping that reality.🤷

It was a mess. For days, Morgan Hernandez5 was stuck fighting off those weird clones all by herself, with absolutely zero backup from the staff, except for maybe a little help from Noah Myers8. And now, without any explanation or real reason, she’s just gone. Meanwhile, we suddenly have moderators popping back up after being totally MIA for months. Of course, their sudden reappearance immediately triggered a wave of backlash from the community, mostly because the moderation has been so subpar lately. Interesting...🤷

hollowtrucker77, look, I don't have anything against you...😍

I can try to give you an answer, even though I don't hold a mod position. That Psychopathy thread started losing steam; aside from a few regulars, nobody was really engaging. People were lurking, sure, but they weren't posting. Why? Likely because the moderation style felt a bit too overbearing and "motherly." The thread only survived as long as it did because people were citing outside sources, which is a great way to learn, but it feels more like a blog than a forum. A forum thrives on debate, and there wasn't much of that left, thanks to both sides of the aisle. Blaming some third or fourth party doesn't really make much sense.🤷

As for Alternative, it is exactly what we, the users, make of it. Swapping out moderators won't make this place better or worse; it will simply be different. If someone is looking for something more aggressive, biting, or hardcore (in any direction), there are plenty of specialized forums out there for that. This platform is for the general public. Unless, of course, someone actually believes the 156,452 of us constitute the elite of society?🤷

It's a tough one...😉

Whether you stumbled into this moderator support role by pure accident or not, I have to say, it’s a tough gig. It’s hard for me to tell, honestly.
Things are getting a bit heavy for me lately... Honestly, any kind of support would be appreciated, even just yours.
It seems you’ve completely overlooked the "theory of engagement" and have once again lost your way by focusing your attacks on my insignificance...
A few posts back, you offered an apology for "causing offense on any level," among several other things...
You’re running in circles again, just like a hamster on a wheel.
Look, Brian Edwards6, let’s keep it civil and not derail the thread...

Do the moderators actually need help? Honestly, I’m not so sure they do.🤷
I honestly can't pinpoint exactly where I attacked you or even threatened you in that comment, but fine. If that’s how you want to see it, so be it.🤷

Alex Barnes8 said:It’s just not possible for the majority to be Catholic in real life while being atheist on this forum. At least, not by accident...

As I’ve already pointed out, participating in this forum is entirely voluntary. There aren't really any gatekeeping measures in place, and certainly no rule stating you can't be Catholic🤷.

Alex Barnes8 said:...And how is it possible that most of us don't post in the religion section? Well, one of the reasons is exactly what I'm talking about. People don't want to write in a sub where Catholics are insulted so much...

But why take offense? Why not simply explain things to those who don't understand? Isn't that part of the point?

Susan Brooks83 said:We’re living in the 21st century now—can we please stop constantly pointing the finger at the Mother Church?
It’s the same old story every single time. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop, experiencing total déjà vu whenever I open that PDF about Religion...

As I’ve already stated, I possess enough self-confidence and faith to openly discuss my own dirty laundry before I start digging through someone else's. Isn't that just common decency? And really, isn't it a mother's duty to build grand institutions, rather than turning to the newspapers to solicit funds for transporting sick children to daycare? Even in the 21st century? Just so there is no confusion here—this is merely a recent example, not an attack on my Church, since you seem so intent on invoking the 21st century. Regardless of the era we live in, we remain only human, bound by the same ancient virtues and vices. At the end of the day, the Church is simply our collective. God is present in every single individual.👍

Susan Brooks83 said:You mentioned something earlier about how American Catholics tend to "practice their faith" in local bars and pubs. It really should have been noted...
I'd consider taking another look at that post, but honestly, I just can't bring myself to do it.

It’s all just a misunderstanding, really. There are plenty of decent people out there, but I rarely find myself working alongside them.🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:Well, fine then. I suppose we’re all just blind if we choose to believe. It’s probably for the best that you finally opened your eyes so you can lead us all out of the dark.
You could argue that you're essentially pulling it from "tunnel vision," or perhaps more accurately...

You’ve completely misread my intention. Actually, you understood the words, but you're generalizing just so you can play the part of the devout martyr or victim—likely playing into certain stereotypes regarding faith and gender. I never claimed that everyone who holds faith is blind. For the record, I believe too. I've already explained the distinction several times now.😉

Susan Brooks83 said:... The alternative isn't faith; it's the exact opposite. It's just a void being filled by superstition...

But isn't faith, for instance, an alternative to science? Or at least to the current scientific consensus? By that same logic, if you traveled to a place where people primarily worship the forces of nature or follow shamans, then Roman Catholicism would be considered the "alternative." I think we need to maintain a broader perspective here.👍

Susan Brooks83 said:It’s just not clear to you—not at all. It is painfully obvious from the way you write that you don't quite grasp the inherent interconnectedness of God.
Beliefs and the Church.
You can't separate God from the Church, nor can you strip the Church away from God. If anyone tries to make that distinction... well, they're missing the point entirely.

The issue here isn't a lack of clarity on either side of this argument; it’s simply that we fundamentally disagree. The supposed connection between any church and God is an invention manufactured by the institution itself, designed primarily to serve its own interests. It functions much like a middleman in a retail transaction—just another layer added to facilitate a deal.🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:The Church is both sacred and sinful, a paradox built from the lives of ordinary believers. Within its ranks, you’ll find some who truly strive to live a holy life, while others are just passing through.
Even here on Earth, there are those who embody true holiness—individuals whose lives serve as living examples of virtue, even if they haven't been officially canonized as Saints just yet.
Just regular folks who actually made the effort to pursue a life of holiness within the embrace of the Mother Church. And they didn't just try—they actually succeeded through sheer, heroic virtue. Take this contemporary of ours, for instance; he’s a true example in the vein of Holy Father John Paul II, whose beatification we're all eagerly anticipating soon...

We’re largely in agreement here. However, we have to acknowledge that there are plenty of non-believers out there who possess more integrity than many of the faithful, even if they don't live under the umbrella of the Mother Church. For some, the Church hasn't been a sanctuary; it's been more like a stepmother. Forgive me for bringing up history again, but I don't believe forgiveness should ever be synonymous with forgetting—or at least, it shouldn't be.

Susan Brooks83 said:You simply cannot draw any meaningful comparisons between the healing power provided by the Holy Spirit and anything you might find in the world of alternative medicine. It’s not even in the same league.
Look, those of us within the Church are well aware that the alternative is trying far too hard to mimic the Holy Spirit.
The charisma of healing... It’s funny how people point to various so-called "healers" as their primary "example."
No, Brian Edwards6, we're talking about an entirely different kind of spirit than the Holy Spirit...

Isn't that exactly what we're talking about—that sense of exclusivity and the systematic stripping away of one's freedom to choose?
Why couldn't these two things be compared? In both instances, you're attempting to heal the spirit using something that requires faith. Both sides possess an equal amount of absolute proof and an equal amount of absolute charlatans. What’s actually the difference between a massive Trade Fair in Chicago and a summer Camp in rural Montana? (Those are just the ones close to home; if anyone knows about similar setups in Islamic or Orthodox traditions, please feel free to weigh in.) The goals, methods, and faith are identical; only the name of the force changes. Isn't that right?🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... No, that isn't a fair thing to say because you're generalizing. It's simply impossible for all American Catholics to be "practicing their faith in bars." I'm not going to repeat what I already wrote in my previous comment regarding your post. That is my perspective, and you are more than welcome to keep insisting that it has nothing to do with faith. That's your opinion....

I never claimed that everyone was like that. However, others often turn a blind eye to their own brothers who have lost their way. And yes, that has nothing to do with your specific faith. Blindness is a common trait among most religions—just as it is among alternative groups.👎

Susan Brooks83 said:What exactly is meant by the phrase "believing in Him rather than in the Mother Church"?
The whole point isn't just about believing in God; it’s about actually dwelling in His proximity. Otherwise, what are we even doing?
It’s truly fascinating how some people jump to conclusions, peddling theories that someone is a fanatic just because they actually bother to respect God's commandments.
There are moments when it feels like we are witnessing a profound disconnect—times when the Church truly embodies the teachings of Jesus Christ, and other times when everything else seems to take precedence.
The believers who go about doing things like that...

So, let me get this straight: if we don't believe in the Church, then we don't believe in God either? I’m struggling to follow that logic. Belief in the Church isn't actually a prerequisite for faith. The Church exists as a tangible, visible entity—complete with all its virtues and, let's be honest, all its flaws. You can observe it, study it, and witness it for what it is without needing to "believe" in it. It's right there in front of us.

Susan Brooks83 said:Life works in a very specific way: you ultimately become the architect of your own fate. God respects our freedom of choice above all else; He doesn't strip it away from anyone or force a hand. At the end of the day, whatever direction you decide to take is entirely on you.

And why, then, are we withholding it from others in the name of God?🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:It’s you versus me, 1:1. I’m telling you, I can hold my own against you when it comes to the spiritual side of things.
Sword fighting? Heh. You’d probably have a much harder time holding your own if you tried picking a fight with a woman of faith. It’s funny how you never seem to find the energy to clash with anyone else on here—you know, the guys posting about the same topics, just regular Christian men discussing the way some of these moderators handle things.
Religion...? How can you avoid calling them out for fanaticism when we’re essentially writing the exact same thing? It's a double standard. If they don't understand it either, does that make them martyrs according to your theory? Honestly, Brian Edwards6, isn't it just easier to go after a woman instead?
It all starts with aggression. For me, that's more than enough...

So, is being a man suddenly the issue here? I thought we had already established that everyone is equal.🤷
Besides, what does gender even have to do with a discussion on a forum like Reddit? I could easily be some ten-year-old kid—male or female, doesn't matter—just pulling your leg, right? Of course, the reverse is just as true.🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... However, it isn't quite right to claim that

"practice their faith in bars," nor do they vomit or spill blood in them, etc. Every individual

who is an active believer—meaning they attend Holy Mass regularly and go to confession frequently,
nourishing themselves with the Body of Christ (not just once a year, or once every decade, or
for long stretches, merely passing through the church on holidays)—would such a person come
into a bar after Holy Mass and vomit on a police officer or cause a bloody scene and call it "practicing their faith"?
I simply don't believe that happens, Brian Edwards6.
...

Not "right to say"? You don't believe it? Unfortunately, that skepticism has nothing to do with faith itself. I wish you could join us for one night. I’m sure you’d be a help to some, and perhaps even save a soul or two. But your entire perspective would shift. You have no idea how much.

Alex Barnes8 said:If Catholics are supposedly in the minority here on Reddit, then something is seriously off with this platform. In the US, Catholics make up a huge portion of the population. Because of that, there isn't really this idea of needing to "realize we're in the minority" and just accepting it as some sort of normal status quo. I’d much rather have the moderators and administrators explain how we ended up in this unbelievable situation where Catholics are treated like a minority on Reddit...

Why wouldn't it work? Anyone can register. Honestly, if there’s an issue with that, it says more about us than it does about the platform itself. We actually had a thread once where people were openly stating their religious affiliations, and from what I recall, the vast majority identified as Catholic, Christian, or similar. Yet, despite that, most of us don't bother labeling ourselves under the religion section. How is that even possible? It’s likely because we're all just trying to avoid getting on the nerves of the fanatics—regardless of whether they follow a specific faith or none at all.🤷

Alex Barnes8 said:Look, let’s be realistic: not every American who identifies as Catholic is a saint. It’s a universal truth that you’ll find good people and terrible ones in any group, regardless of their background. I personally don't have an issue with people of different faiths or ethnicities, but I absolutely draw the line at injustice and unearned privilege, no matter which religion or nationality is claiming them.

And what about the blatant favoritism shown to the majority faith? I’m talking about things like preferential access to taxpayer funding, the unhindered display of religious symbols in public institutions, or even the practice of dedicating public buildings through religious ceremonies. It raises some serious questions.🤷

Alex Barnes8 said:It seems Catholics have somehow become a tiny minority here on this forum, while atheists make up the overwhelming majority. You’ve clearly decided to align yourself with that majority, joining in on the attacks.

Attacks? Really? Isn't this supposed to be a discussion? Or is the expectation now that we should only stay on topic if we all happen to share the exact same opinion?🤷
It’s one thing to claim you have God on your lips constantly, but if a few lines written by some random stranger on a public forum like Reddit can shake the very foundation of your faith, then you clearly have much deeper issues to work through.👎

Susan Brooks83 said:... A believer practicing their faith is always seeking God's proximity. The term "invocation" isn't really

Honestly, I have much more fun in those alternative circles.👍

Susan Brooks83 said:... According to your theory, relying on God's strength more than your own is just fanaticism...

I think we misunderstood one another. My theory is that God will grant you enough self-confidence to achieve your goals on your own if you truly believe in Him. I am emphasizing belief in Him, not in the Mother Church. Fanaticism is that constant habit of invoking His name and beating your chest because you're a believer, convinced you're absolutely right and playing the martyr that nobody else understands.👎

Susan Brooks83 said:... Who's stopping you from turning the other cheek, Brian Edwards6? You're a believer too, aren't you?..

If we both turn the other cheek, then the gesture becomes entirely pointless. We can't both be humble. 🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... Maybe if they spilled mimosa and cotton wool everywhere, it would be easier to walk, wouldn't it?...

Susan Brooks83 said:... How on earth would you know how everyone else perceives this forum? Maybe that’s why you kept picking fights,
perhaps because you were too busy psychoanalyzing other users and their understanding of the site? And that's
strictly against the forum rules, Brian Edwards6. That's likely why you ended up clashing with the mods. After all,
other users reported you via the red flag icon...

The only thing we actually do in threads like this is analyze one another. Or is there some grander purpose I'm missing? I've had direct run-ins with the moderators, just like I'm having with you right now. In those instances, I was in the minority. Or perhaps the majority—honestly, I can't quite tell myself.🤔

Susan Brooks83 said:... Don't be ridiculous... You're calling it fanaticism, but what does that have to do with my faith?...

I clearly wasn't articulate enough. It's not as if a higher power is speaking through me. If you were Muslim, an atheist (or whatever), it wouldn't make a difference. A fanatic is a fanatic. It truly has nothing to do with any specific faith. Besides, every religion claims its own Truth over everyone else's, but when you strip them down to the bone, they are incredibly similar. It's laughable. And rather pathetic.👎

Susan Brooks83 said:... And what exactly do you mean by being condescending and looking down on people?... You said yourself that
you aren't a practical believer, so why do you feel looked down upon? If you're feeling that way,
then you're essentially undermining yourself, because that certainly wasn't my intention.
It suggests something else entirely—something you were so sweetly accusing me of earlier, back when you were writing
about having massive self-confidence...

I didn't say I felt condescended to; I said that *you* are condescending toward others. There is a significant distinction there. Also, didn't you claim that analyzing fellow participants was forbidden? Or have you simply lost the nerve to stand by your word?🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... kae, did you work the night shift on Christmas? Well, someone has to, you can't do everything yourself... I suppose
you'll get a little extra holiday pay for working through the festivities...
Have some mild tea, relax, get some sleep, catch up on rest... It might help you stay centered during the
holidays; in medicine, that kind of sensitivity is called holiday depression.
That sort of "mood" also lowers one's tolerance for many things, not just
"fanaticism"... Because there are plenty of different kinds of fanatics out there these days...

We clearly haven't understood one another. I’ve been doing this job for quite a few years now, so it isn't some matter of stamina. And let's be clear, it isn't a case of "holiday blues"—though it is somewhat amusing how every single state of mind nowadays requires its own specific label and a corresponding prescription. Whether you call it medical, religious, or alternative, it's all the same. My issue is simply that for a religious holiday, I have to spend the entire night patrolling the areas where American Catholics practice their faith. Between the blood and the vomit (not mine, thankfully), I had to change into a fresh uniform the following day. Honestly, I didn't even have the nerve to turn back.👎

Susan Brooks83 said:... Yes, in the end, everything falls under God's providence...

Alex Barnes8 said:Why would she, being a Catholic, even bother posting on Reddit?HR It should have been. I am fully aware that... manjiniDoes that sentence of yours still not sound ridiculous to you?

If half the comments here boil down to people claiming this is an atheist forum, then I suppose that just means we Catholics are in the minority, doesn't it? And honestly, what's so foolish about that?🤷

Alex Barnes8 said:First off, let's get one thing straight: in America, those who don't follow our traditions aren't some separate group—they are simply the minority within our broader identity as American Catholics.

In America, the real ones are always in the minority. You see people claiming they’re devout Catholics? Look, I work in law enforcement, and believe me, being an American Catholic doesn't automatically make someone a decent human being. Of course, since we happen to be the majority here, most of the idiots end up coming from our own ranks.👍

Alex Barnes8 said:Just imagine if you gave that same advice to someone else—say, a Muslim in this country. How would that even land? Imagine walking up to them and saying, "Look, just be aware that you’re a minority here, so you should probably brace yourself for attacks and insults from Catholics." It sounds absurd, doesn't it? When a Muslim deals with that kind of treatment, people cry foul and call it outrageous and punishable. But somehow, when a Catholic endures the exact same thing, we’re expected to act like it's perfectly normal. It's a massive double standard.

Let me be clear: I am a Catholic, so when it comes to our faith, I’m speaking from firsthand experience. Islam is foreign to me, and whatever little I might know about it is second-hand at best. So, logically speaking, it only makes sense that I stick to discussing what I actually understand, doesn't it?🤷

Alex Barnes8 said:And then, when you actually dare to push back and answer him that way, suddenly you’re the one being blamed? Apparently, by responding, I’ve somehow sided with the majority that was tearing him apart, and now I'm expected to join in on the jokes and laugh at him too. How convenient.

Are you seriously suggesting that I’m siding with the majority to attack an angel? You literally just wrote a moment ago that we Americans are mostly Catholic. So, if she’s also an American Catholic—which, again, constitutes the majority—how on earth am I "siding with the majority"? Am I supposed to be representing some sort of minority group here?🤔

Alex Barnes8 said:Oh, sure... That's exactly how Catholics think. Other religions are just infinitely tolerant and have absolutely never heard of the concept of punishment...
Come on, maybe try actually learning a thing or two about other faiths before you go around claiming that punishments are some Catholic invention...

Where exactly did I say that punishments were a Catholic invention? It’s perfectly normal for any organized religion to develop methods of harsh punishment at some point in its history, especially when clashing with another organized faith. And as I’ve already noted, Roman Catholicism is close to my heart, which makes it much easier for me to speak on our own affairs. I’m not out here fighting some holy war; we're just an obstacle to the blindness of one side. Whether they're the majority right now or a minority—honestly, I haven't quite figured that part out yet.🤷

I simply can't explain it anymore...

I can't help but wonder how anyone could find this environment so "pleasant." It’s just so incredibly "lovely" that we all ended up here.
A few people over at the Vatican seem to be digging in their heels, acting like they're under siege...

Susan Brooks83 said:It really comes down to a fundamental lack of respect, and...
That is an incredibly distasteful way to speak about the holy figures we believe in and strive to emulate.
Practical believers, they call us. Catholics, supposedly...

I find myself lurking in the religion threads, though I rarely actually participate. It’s because I realized quite some time ago that no matter how you frame it, these debates inevitably veer off course. It happens on both sides of the aisle, every single time. But look, if you’re walking around knowing you’re in the minority, you really ought to be prepared for the inevitable onslaught of attacks and condescension. That’s just how it works. After all, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? Or are you planning to call upon a higher power to handle that one, too?🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:I honestly envy you. I wish I had that much confidence.
To be honest, I’ve reached a point where I rely on God far more than I ever rely on myself. It’s only through Him that I feel capable of handling anything life throws my way.
And that right there is the fundamental distinction between simply being a believer and being a practical believer.

Let’s be clear: there is a massive distinction between genuine faith and mere addiction. Similarly, there is a world of difference between true belief and pure fanaticism. In my view, a Christian fanatic is just as problematic as a Muslim or Jewish fanatic—and honestly, you could even make the case that an atheist fanatic is just as bad.👎
Whatever happened to the concept of turning the other cheek? Isn't that just as vital as all those other things you seem so fond of bringing up?🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... So, I am saying I do NOT support hate speech or religious intolerance being "served" to Catholics and everyone else
who actually practices their faith...

No, you aren't saying NO to others because of their faith or convictions. Of course, that applies to most people when discussing religion. Everyone loves to invoke science and whatnot, but only when they’re talking about other faiths. As soon as their own doctrines are brought up, they start foaming at the mouth. If someone holds a different opinion, fine. But if they spit, insult, or disparage, it doesn't really matter anyway. Everything is recorded, and everyone will eventually answer for their actions, won't they? Or are we all just going to lump them together and let Him sort us out?
🤷

Susan Brooks83 said:... Because, my dear Brian Edwards6, even words can kill the spirit of a man...

So, is that why you write with such extreme caution?

Susan Brooks83 said:... The moderator in question is attempting to kill the spirit Christian on this forum through his posts because he simply doesn't know what he's doing. And it's not just him.
If he did know, he wouldn't be doing it...

First, you claim he knows exactly what he's doing and is doing it intentionally, and now you're saying he has no idea.
My take is that he probably does know. And you know it, I know it, and I'm sure the rest of us do too.
Or perhaps we're all collectively clueless—honestly, I don't even know anymore.
🤔

Susan Brooks83 said:... As for burning at the stake and heretics, I'll pass, since it clearly isn't clicking for you what this is actually about. Or maybe it is.
It's interesting how many people in these debates constantly latch onto talk of burning stakes and heretics. LOL...

Susan Brooks83 said:... I didn't start this by picking on you—not that I have much choice, given how often I read your posts starting from my own perspective...
It seems you haven't had much interest in my posts until now, but suddenly, there's all this interest, haha.
Then again, perhaps this is simply your path toward becoming a more practical believer...

Isn't that a bit condescending? A little patronizing? The moment I disagree with you, you immediately assume I'm part of some conspiracy against you or against Christians at large? That I'm out here spreading my convictions with fire and sword?🤷
I like to remind those who take themselves far too seriously that this isn't real life. It applies to every sub-forum. This is just an online forum. Discussion is implied. I’ve clashed with plenty of users and mods for that very reason. It’s nothing new. Now, you're just next in line. And this has nothing to do with your faith or your character, other than your sheer fanaticism.
Besides, I'm feeling particularly sensitive right now. It's that Christmas mood. Since I was working the night shift on Christmas, that "mood" carries a certain weight for me and leaves me with very little patience for fanaticism.
But, it doesn't matter. I know I won't get anywhere here, so I'll head out. I don't want to cause too much of a stir.😉
In the end, everything settles as it should.
Regards.👋

Susan Brooks83 said:Well, I suppose this is just who I am—far from perfect. 😁 The main issue is your attempt to categorize Catholics,
into "right" and "wrong" believers. 🙄 👍
First, you offer unsolicited advice about changing my signature, and then you seem unsure whether it even
fits the tone of the text. 😬 You haven't exactly convinced me that you have a firm grasp on what works and what doesn't. 🙂

Why is there always such a defensive posture here?🤷
I consider myself a Catholic as well, even if I’m not exactly a practicing believer. Personally, I hold my faith, and that suffices for me, while remaining respectful of others' beliefs. The difference is that I possess enough self-assurance to engage in conversation with those who don't share my views without feeling like I’m automatically destined for hell. Plus, I can generally resist the urge to immediately toss my interlocutor onto a bonfire for being a heretic.😉
Regarding the Good Pope, that was intended more as an observation than actual advice (it’s a bit late for me to edit the text now; perhaps a moderator could assist🙂).
And, as far as I am aware—though I could be mistaken—he championed dialogue and coexistence, so...🤷
In any case, we all have to start with ourselves, don't we?👍

Until then, go ahead and indulge in your arrogance and complacency: provoke as many people as possible,
belittle them, spit on their sacred things—in short, enjoy wallowing in the mud of spiritual misery
while simultaneously pretending to be all about honesty and integrity.

And the consequence will be exactly what you'd expect: woe, woe, woe, oh no, oh boy, help me. ☕

A true Catholic woman...👍
You might want to remove the Good Pope from your signature. It doesn't quite align with the sentiment expressed above it.🤷

hiddenpuma75 said:… so, were your "explanations" actually delivered in the spirit
of truth,
beauty,
and goodness
—those three fundamental values?

Which laws are actually written in the spirit of those three values? And why would anyone define them that way? You mention the Constitution of the United States. According to that, our core principles are: liberty, equality, national unity and gender equality, peacekeeping, social justice, respect for human rights, the sanctity of private property, environmental protection, the rule of law, and a democratic multi-party system. Hmm, I don't see how that quite fits your logic…

hiddenpuma75 said:… A coffee shop owner, even though it’s his private business, doesn't have the right to bar customers from entering, pick and choose who comes in, or dictate whether they can discuss politics, religion, or what kind of establishment it is…

Actually, a business owner absolutely can refuse service to a customer (especially one who’s making a mess), and they certainly have the right to set the general vibe. For instance, we all know there's a difference between what's tolerated in a local dive bar versus a high-end jazz club. Similarly, if someone isn't following the rules, the owner can call the police to have them removed or even pursue civil action privately.

hiddenpuma75 said:… you're forgetting that this is also a PUBLIC forum, not JUST a private one…

Just because a site is easily accessible and everyone can read it doesn't mean it's "public" in the sense you're implying. It is private property; it's a registered entity, and as a user, you've already agreed to its specific terms of service.

hiddenpuma75 said:… An apartment is purely private, and in an apartment, you can do whatever you want and invite whoever you want…

You definitely cannot do whatever you want in an apartment. For example, you can't assault a partner, commit murder, possess illegal drugs, counterfeit currency, and so on. You can't blast loud music, hammer away at walls during quiet hours, do renovations during a neighbor's nap time, or toss trash out the window. Essentially, you aren't allowed to commit crimes or misdemeanors.

hiddenpuma75 said:… Just because this forum is private property doesn't mean the owner or the moderators can act with total impunity. There are still boundaries and rules—both affirmative and restrictive—that apply to them just as much as they do to the users...

Look, when you register as a member, you’re essentially agreeing to the house rules. Those rules aren't supposed to conflict with established legal standards. If you truly believe they do, you're more than welcome to file a private lawsuit like any other citizen would.

hiddenpuma75 said:… we use anonymous handles here, yet the moderators constantly jump into discussions and debates instead of letting people have raw, even heated, communication since everyone is anonymous anyway

As I’m sure you’ve already been told, these are simply the rules of this community. If they don't sit well with you, feel free to find another community. Or better yet, start your own blog where you can be the sole arbiter of what is and isn't allowed.

Just so we’re clear, I occasionally find the moderators' actions quite grating myself. But so be it. They are a necessary component of the ecosystem, and if someone finds it absolutely intolerable…👋
