Sanctions on Russia in War in Ukraine ·

Let's see if those forum economists actually knew what they were talking about.

Hard to say. All I know is that Russia is getting rid of the Ruble in Ukraine.

China is a heavyweight player with actual credentials—they managed to climb from being one of the poorest nations on Earth to an industrial superpower in just a few decades.

And Russia? Just a massive, insecure joke.

The difference is China played it smart and stayed open; otherwise, they'd be stuck just like Russia.

The US is sending over artillery. Soon enough, they'll be hitting targets deep inside Russia.

Back in 1942, my island was under Italian occupation. Some resistance fighters were trying to recruit my 22-year-old uncle to join the movement. My grandmother heard about it and went straight to the underground commander to ask why they wanted her son fighting the Italians. The officer told her, "Ma'am, the Italians have occupied us and set up their own government, and now our kids are being taught only Italian in school."
And she just looked at him and said, "I'd much rather my son be a living Italian than a dead American."
😬

Your employer is lucky—he cuts your pay and eventually lets you go. And you just tell him, "Fine, cut my pay or fire me, at least I'm still working."

Do the fans in Russia realize that if they actually win, Ukraine gets slapped with sanctions too? It would leave a struggling Russia stuck trying to rebuild everything under even more pressure.

Europe and the USA keep sending supplies, but where are the tanks, artillery, trucks, and helicopters actually out on the ground?

"We're getting weapons in every single day," Sullivan said, "including today." On Friday, the White House announced that since the Russian invasion began, the United States has sent $1.7 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

If you've got a 220-pounder going up against a 150-pounder in the ring, how can you root for the heavy hitter—especially when he's playing dirty?🤷

Timothy Kim9 said:From what I can gather, if an S-300 doesn't have its
radar running constantly—and these things are mobile, after all—it’s a real pain for the Russians to pin them down.
So, getting these over to Ukraine actually makes sense.
Thnx

If they're that easy to take out, then what's even the point?🤷

Sarah Mitchell2 said:These sanctions are a joke. The EU is basically banning everything except gas, which just means we'll end up paying a premium for it while Russia keeps enough cash flow to sell their resources elsewhere without breaking a sweat.

But hey, if they want to play dress-up, let them.

Plus, that gas money wasn't even staying local before the war started. Now it's funding the conflict, and everyone else just takes the hit. They get the benefit of the sanctions, but not really.

How are you even going to handle Putin's sanctions? 🤷

Even the Ukrainians didn't see it coming—they had no idea the Russians would launch an invasion within just 40 days.

If the Russians had been a bit sharper back in 2014 when they grabbed those territories... They could have positioned Germany right on the borders of the new lands to act as peacekeepers. Then they’d have Nord Stream, the newly won territory, and Germany all as allies at once.

That's why they're struggling so much in Ukraine. They thought they'd roll into Kyiv in three days, but they can't even take Mariupol in 38.

Once those planes arrive, we'll see cruise missiles too. It's almost like Ukrainians are the ones attacking. They're just defending themselves from the occupiers.

Timothy Nelson5 said:I suppose I agree.

Right now, what really matters for the Ukrainian military is setting up a coordinated network of MANPADS on the battlefield. If they can cover everything up to 3+ km with Stingers and Starstreaks—paired with some decent early warning for Russian aircraft and helicopters—that changes things.

Getting those S-300 and Buk units back up to strength might just be enough to stop the Russians from flying high without worrying about much.

Since they've burned through so many precision bombs and missiles lately (and honestly, not all of them were even that accurate), the Russians might be forced to fly low for tactical strikes, using dumb bombs just to hit something.

That kind of thing would lead to losing quite a few planes and helicopters pretty quickly.
And besides, keeping their existing fleet flight-ready is becoming an uphill battle, I think.

If the Ukrainians had cruise missiles, the Russians would already be in Moscow looking for their overdue paychecks from Putin.

Christian Torres3 said:You don't have enough ammo to match what I can send—just a constant stream of BMPs packed with infantry straight into the crosshairs... classic Russian tactics.

That might have worked back in 1945, but in the age of McDonald's, it’s going to be a much harder sell.☕

Just a few days ago, they released the latest data—something they do constantly—detailing the labor market stats, employment rates, unemployment numbers, and so on.
Supposedly, there are 400 thousand fewer unemployed people compared to the exact same window last year.🤔🤔

On the flip side, I’m hearing these projections about what would happen if the supply of Russian gas to Germany were actually cut off... which could lead, both directly and indirectly, to 200 thousand unemployed workers.🤔🤔
