The whole community is just so glad you're part of this group.*
And honestly, I am too.

* Even the moderator gave me the green light to pop in here and wish you well.

Thank you so much!
I'm just really happy to have this community (and all of you!) to hang out with. :)

rustydrifter10, you definitely owe me one now!

That’s an A+ right there, but I think we're still sitting at a C. 🙂
Permanent ban from Prestrog? in Banned Users Corner ·
Honestly, three days isn't exactly a lifetime when you're dealing with a permanent ban. Plus, it’s the weekend, so everyone's just chilling—might as well hang tight for a bit.

I love the concept, but I’m honestly not sure if it’s actually doable. If you look at the thread in the link, it’s way back from 2014 and doesn't really offer a fix—it just lists all the headaches. It basically says it's a non-starter unless Instagram decides to overhaul their API. Does anyone here know if there's any way to embed this now, or maybe some kind of add-on that makes it work?

I’m really hoping things fall into place soon—we actually have something in the works right now, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for a positive outcome. In the meantime, though, please feel free to reach out if anything urgent pops up; my inbox is always open for you guys.
[Offtopic] Constant rule-breaking, hate speech, and toxic behavior in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, the Off-Topic section is basically a giant, chaotic dumping ground for spam and random chatter. It’s just massive walls of text flying by every single day, and honestly, even if we had twenty moderators on duty, they wouldn't be able to keep up with all that noise, let alone just two of us. Please, don't let a few trolls in the chat get under your skin or ruin your mood; if you see actual hate speech, doxxing, or anything seriously bad, just report it. We do clear out the Off-Topic threads from time to time, but since deleting huge threads can sometimes trigger system errors, it feels like nobody's caught onto it in a while. But hey, let's stay focused. 🙂

Do we really need to just ban everyone, or what? 😬

Didn't Anderlon say they weren't going to moderate stuff like this?

Look, depending on how nasty the argument gets, they won't tolerate that kind of behavior here either. If you’ve got an issue, just lay it out on the table and let’s have a real discussion about it, but honestly, all I've seen so far is just people chatting away.

Well, if he decides to step in and take ownership of this thread, then hey, be my guest. But until he actually does that, this topic is still under moderation.

Posting on the forum with a burner account after getting banned in Feedback & Suggestions ·
David Richardson67 said:So why doesn't every single new user get automatically screened for being a clone as part of the official onboarding process? Honestly, I think that would clear up so many of the headaches we deal with here.

The truth is, it’s just way too much busywork for no real reason. We run checks when there's actually something suspicious to look at.

dustypilot11 said:So you're saying it's possible for a new moderator to ban someone for being straight-up abusive, but then if that exact same person keeps acting out through a burner account while following all the rules to a T, the moderator isn't allowed to just connect the dots and ban the clone too? Even if they're getting reports from multiple different threads?

Just because someone flags an account as a clone doesn't mean it actually is one. A moderator can't just hand out bans based solely on user reports without proof.

dustypilot11 said:Man, that sounds like such a headache. So what's the move now? Are we just supposed to sit tight and hope they learn how to behave eventually?

Well, some people just don't have any intention of playing nice. You definitely get all sorts of personalities on these boards.
Posting on the forum with a burner account after getting banned in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, our general rule is pretty straightforward: we don't allow anyone to jump on a burner account while their main profile is under suspension. As for whether a moderator is going to drop a warning first or just go ahead and ban the alt account immediately—well, it really depends on the specific circumstances. We look at the "why" behind the ban. There's a massive difference between someone being a bit rowdy in a casual chat room versus someone intentionally stirring up drama and tension in a serious discussion. It’s all about the context. Plus, there are those awkward moments where our newer moderators aren't quite sure how to handle a situation, so they reach out to me for guidance. But by the time I can even weigh in, the user might have already served their suspension, or they've gone off on a spree posting from their clone, or something else entirely unexpected happens.
Why is COVID talk banned in the philosophy sub? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, if you guys really want to obsess over the coronavirus, there’s an entire subforum dedicated specifically to it. You had your own thread for a while, but let's be honest—nobody was actually following the rules or sticking to the moderator guidelines. So, best of luck over on the other PDF.
Complaint about a moderator in Feedback & Suggestions ·
ruggedscout76 said:I'm just waiting for you to actually report the post, 🐔

But in all seriousness, as a moderator, I’m constantly trying to gauge how to steer the conversation—deciding whether stepping in with some bans will actually help get things back on track if they're heading toward being productive, or if it'll just blow things up into a massive flame war and petty bickering.
A huge part of that judgment call is seeing if the discussion keeps flowing naturally after a controversial comment, or if people start hitting that report button. To me, those reports are a clear signal that the participants aren't feeling comfortable anymore and that it's time for me to step in.

Since you mentioned yourself that you enjoy dropping provocative posts just to see what kind of reaction you can stir up, I’d really suggest that next time you see something that bugs you, just report it. Seriously, just hit that report icon; if you try to call people out directly within the thread, you run the risk of getting a warning or a penalty yourself.

Everything looks perfectly fine to me, and I think we’ve pretty much wrapped this discussion up. We don't share info upon request, and we definitely don't delete profiles. If anyone has an issue with that, feel free to reach out to Microsoft, who owns Reddit.

Moderation talk in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m really glad you guys got this sorted out, but just in case it helps for next time: Boo handled things exactly the way she should have. She gave you a heads-up, she issued a warning, and she kept things pretty low-key at first. If there was an actual issue with how things were being handled, the best move would have been to settle it privately via DM—either with her or with me—or even just bring it up right here on the forum. Now you know the drill for the future: if you ever find yourself disagreeing with a moderator's call or a specific guideline, regardless of what the topic is, there's a proper way to address it.

Request to delete my account per CCPA in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Eric Newman75 said:Look, a post on a message board doesn't carry any weight here; it isn't some official legal demand or formal request. No legitimate company in the world handles its business through internet forums. If you want to get something done, you need to send an actual email to the people in charge of CCPA compliance at Monitor and Forum LLC, since they’re the ones legally responsible for everything.

Exactly. We don't just go around deleting profiles because someone asks for it in a thread—you'll need to take it up with Monitor directly.
What exactly does "off-topic" mean? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Douglas Gray8 said:I actually started this thread under Natural Sciences because I have a partial interest in alternative theories, which is really where this whole topic belongs anyway.

Well, you pretty much answered your own question right there! The topic doesn't actually belong in the section where you posted it. Honestly, just because your specific area of interest happens to be listed on some PDF directory where the thread should have been placed isn't really a moderator issue at all.
