Given how massive this forum has become, things are bound to get messy without some decent pruning, and once that happens, the whole community starts losing its sense of purpose. I remember back when I was first starting out on some old message boards, I lost an entire essay because my browser crashed, so if you're planning on writing a long post, my best advice is to just hit ctrl+a and ctrl+c—it really does wonders for your peace of mind.
Not quite... honestly, the XFX 7870 is still a pretty solid card. My dad actually has one sitting in his desktop right now, though I had to retire my own Sapphire model because it ran into a manufacturing glitch early on. If you're seriously considering dropping $1,500 on a GPU just to see a marginal jump in performance, I'd suggest taking a breath. You'll likely find yourself back in this exact same position in about eighteen months, wondering why you didn't pick something else. In my opinion, it's just not worth it.
Jesse Brown90 said:If I need a rig just to run GTA 5 and The Witcher 3, I might be better off skipping the purchase entirely. It seems like a waste of money. Can someone please name just one game actually worth dropping $500 on for a graphics card? I’m writing this with a completely level head and I'm not upset at all, but honestly, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... you should fund your own hobbies!
Look, buddy, a close friend of mine recently dropped $800 on a designer bracelet just because he liked the look of it, and he paid for it himself. Why does it matter to you who can afford what or how they choose to spend their money? If I work hard and earn enough to treat myself to whatever I desire, it isn't really your business to judge my spending habits. As for whether a game is "worth it" or not, that's entirely a matter of personal taste. There are people out there who have happily spent $3,000 just to build a high-end flight simulator so they can enjoy some virtual aviation—basically turning on Boeing cruise mode 👍

I feel like I'd have to go to Jesse Brown90 to ask him to let me know when my mouse arrives $200, or if my $1,000 keyboard shows up, and so on. 😁
The reason I invest in this kind of gear is simply because I value comfort; ever since I upgraded my peripherals to higher-end models, I find I don't feel the urge to smash things against the desk like I used to. 😁
Jesse Brown90 said:actually, no—I can still run just about anything new with my GT 9800 setup, excluding absolute junk like The Witcher 3, though I can manage Crysis 3 now that they finally released a DX patch. Honestly, your parents must be incredibly wealthy to be handing you such massive amounts of money for graphics cards, while you all act like spoiled brats who have never known a day of struggle in your lives. Are you guys actually living in America? What kind of income are we talking about here, and what does a "new" PC even cost these days? I’d love for one of you geniuses to name just two decent games that my current rig wouldn't be able to push through. Sure, it’s an old machine, but it works, damn it! We aren't living in the early 2000s anymore when hardware specs were doubling every six months.
There are no parents involved here; I fund everything myself. For instance, I currently have 2x 4GB sticks, but I just ordered 3x 4GB modules, and I plan on selling these 2x 4GB ones for $67 to pick up some RAM with that cash, so what do you have to say to that, 😁 👍
Your computer won't even handle GTA 5 on high settings, let alone The Witcher 3, much less any of the new titles with cutting-edge graphics. Before you start complaining about GPUs, I should mention that I'm a bit old school myself; I find that games from the 2002-2005 era already look incredible to me, and anything older than that just looks even better ☕
If you can't afford a better rig, don't sit around whining about it; just go out there and earn 😠
He’ll probably just stick with the GTX 970 for now, mostly because he doesn't want to deal with the headache of swapping out his power supply right this second...
I hear you loud and clear... my head is actually throbbing a bit right now, so please excuse any rambling or if my thoughts seem a little scattered. ^^
On a different note, I’ve been looking at my calendar and thinking about heading out to New York City in the coming months; I should be making my way through GZA around that time too. 🙂
They’re a bit unsightly and honestly feel a little too much like social commentary 😁
I totally get where you're coming from, but I just don't think it's worth sitting around waiting for months over something like that, IMO... unless someone is planning to go all out on their build and really wants the most powerful setup possible
That is precisely why they do it—to maximize their profit margins.
In my view, any motherboard priced around $333 really ought to come with wireless connectivity enabled by default, even if you don't end up using it yourself.
"I actually ran into this exact same issue myself, and what worked was heading over to the NVIDIA Control Panel, navigating to the multi-display setup, and ensuring it's configured for more than just a single monitor.
Additionally, you might want to look for the power management mode setting and switch it over to 'Prefer maximum performance.' Just a heads-up, though—doing this will keep your graphics card running at its full clock speed constantly, so you might notice slightly higher temperatures even when you're just idling.
Another thing to try is opening up your "Config.wtf" file located within the "\ World of Warcraft\WTF" folder and manually adding the line SET gxApi "d3d11" " "
You could also try enabling triple buffering under the advanced video options, as that usually clears up the bug. I've noticed that sometimes if triple buffering is turned off while VSync is active, the game tends to lock itself at 30fps instead of hitting that smooth 60fps in DX11 mode.
"
On another note, whenever this starts happening, it might be a good idea to check on your system temperatures; I usually pull up Speccy or HWMonitor just to make sure everything is staying within a safe range.
Hey, Joshua Ramos14, you could grab a high-end graphics card for $267, some protection for $67, a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, a bit of coke, and even some roses... honestly, whether you're looking to dominate the new Madden on ultra settings or just score goals in some virtual world like 🙂
...though if you’ve got your heart set on an Nvidia card, I’d suggest waiting a few weeks for that new one this guy mentioned to actually hit the shelves 🙂
