...well, I suppose you're right there

rowdybadger18 said:People like you are exactly why this country is such a mess. Why don't you try being proactive instead of just whining about your rights? 😉

When I consider that I'm contributing roughly $4,000 in taxes every single month, and then I see how that money actually gets spent, there are days when I feel like burning the whole system down. 👍

However, I won't bother engaging in a debate with you, as it’s quite clear you lack any real experience in these matters and are simply talking nonsense.

The logic here seems to be "fight for your rights" versus "actually feeding your family."
I have no interest in fighting for my rights because I already know what they are and I exercise them; however, if I had to choose between explaining to people which software is superior and why, or risking my ability to provide food for my newborn child... yeah, I'd choose the latter every time.

You are going beyond stupid, and honestly, it isn't even entertaining.

We've basically just spammed this guy's thread for no reason.

All things considered, OP,

you really have three ways to go about this:

1. Just buy Office and call it a day.
2. Install LibreOffice since it’s free.
3. Find a way to get Office from a shady website.

It’s all up to 👍

rowdybadger18 said:When someone starts grilling you with those kinds of aggressive questions, I find the best way to shut it down is simply to point them toward what I mentioned earlier regarding the OpenDocument format, which serves as our official American standard. Of course, your typical user doesn't really need to be an expert on standards; they just need to have Microsoft Office 2007 or a more recent version, which will handle almost anything they throw at it 99% of the time.

And just like that, you've managed to drive ten people away every single day. If you keep that up for ten days, you've lost a hundred people, who then go out and influence another three hundred... and what happens then? After six months, are you going to have to shut down your business and start begging on the street corners just to scrape together enough money to pay your bills and put food on the table for your family?

You really need to start paying attention to how the real world actually works.

rowdybadger18 As I was thinking about this earlier today while sipping my coffee, I couldn't help but reflect on what was said:
I hear you, friend, but if we look at the actual technical standards, they really do lean in favor of LibreOffice. The OpenDocument format, specifically under the designation ISO/IEC 26300:2006, was officially adopted as an American standard about two years later. This transition was formalized through an official announcement by the IRS, which you can find listed in their regulatory bulletin for normative documents, specifically number 2/2008 on page A13.

Yeap, it seems like every single government agency and major corporation out there has made the switch to LibreOffice; everyone is just using it now, blah blah blah.

Maybe you should try stepping out into the real world once in a while before you start sharing your opinions.

Look, I’m not looking to start an argument here, but my family has been feeling the squeeze for about five years now because of the sheer overhead involved in running a print shop—everything from the photocopiers and advertising to those constant price list updates. It’s a bit frustrating to read some nonsense posted by someone who clearly has zero real-world experience in this industry. It isn't like I haven't personally sunk well over $100,000 just into paper supplies, let alone the endless cycle of buying printers and ink. 🙂

When I hear someone say they only want to use LibreOffice, it immediately puts them into that specific category of people who hand you a rough sketch they made in MS Paint and then demand you print it as a ten-foot billboard with crystal-clear resolution. It’s one of those moments where you just have to smile through the absurdity of the request! 😁

Drew Allen77 said:While ODF certainly serves as the industry standard, Microsoft tends to stick to their guns by defaulting everything to .docx, and honestly, I don't see them ever changing that habit. Most people just go along with it anyway, and frankly, I think about 99% of users aren't even going to lose any sleep over it.

And that brings us right to the heart of the matter, which is really the biggest headache of all. It isn’t that I haven't personally used LibreOffice before—I certainly have—but there is one very specific reason why I tend to steer clear of it. I just can't bring myself to deal with the inevitable follow-up emails where someone asks me, "Why does this look so messy?" or "How on earth am I supposed to open this file?" or even just a confused, "What exactly am I looking at right now?" It becomes such an unnecessary chore to troubleshoot formatting issues for others when you're just trying to be helpful.

Personally, I’ve found that simply using the "Save As" or "Export" function to create a PDF is by far the most reliable method, and if you really want to see how it should be done properly, just take a look at this. 👍

And honestly, this is exactly why you’ll struggle to reach the top tier of your profession. Standards exist for a very good reason. If an OpenDocument file shifts a margin by just a centimeter—or even half a centimeter—but you’ve already produced work worth, say, $1000+ (which is quite a significant amount when you're prepping for print), then you are essentially $1000 in the hole.

I would love to engage in a proper debate with you, but it seems clear that you aren't quite ready for this level of discussion. "Free" isn't always synonymous with "better." There is a reason people pay for premium software. I actually have LibreOffice installed on all my machines, and I’ll happily use it if someone sends me a file created in that format. However, about 99% of the business world operates in Word, and if you're trying to run everything through LibreOffice, you'll spend half your day just fixing everyone else's formatting errors instead of actually working.

No offense intended, but I’d suggest being a bit more mindful of how you phrase things; otherwise, you end up coming across as uninformed, which I truly believe isn't your intention.

I’d rather give you a straight answer than let you wander aimlessly through nonsense 😉

Once you reach a point where you're printing upwards of 10,000 pages a day, and you have a constant stream of hundreds of people walking by with various PDF, DOCX, XLSX, or OpenDocument files—I believe those are for OpenOffice?—you eventually realize that relying solely on LibreOffice and a basic version of Adobe Acrobat Reader just won't cut it in a high-stakes professional environment.

No joke here,
Just list all the warranties and the appraiser from Arendelle & Co. will be right there.

Well, I can personally guarantee that everything is running perfectly. 👍
I used some high-quality thermal paste, though I can't quite recall the specific brand off the top of my head; it was silver in color.🤣

Christian Morris80 said:It isn't being rude at all to point out that Google Workspace is its own distinct software suite, much like any other standalone application, and functions independently of macOS. If someone really wants to have it on their machine, they simply need to purchase it.

Honestly, we were the ones being a bit foolish by paying over a thousand dollars,$0.00 mostly just to satisfy compliance audits since we technically bought a "laptop with macOS pre-installed." 😁

As others have suggested to you, I would recommend uninstalling the Google Workspace trial and just installing your own version of Google Workspace. 👍

If he was looking at buying a card like that, I can certainly see where his head was at, which is why he phrased it that way. You really don't go picking up a GPU at that price point unless you have a solid grasp of the fundamentals 😁

Timothy Kim60 said:I honestly wouldn't mind paying $33 a bit extra at Micro Center (because let's be real, $2,800 is basically $33 peanuts) just to have that peace of mind, especially since you get a solid two-year warranty through them. It saves me from dealing with any headaches from a third-party vendor or having to shell out an extra $30 for shipping if I need to file a claim.

That being said, I’m definitely planning on buying from him when the time comes, and I’ll make sure to pay him a little extra $33 as a thank you for being so accommodating; he actually shipped my order out on a Saturday because I was in a huge rush to get an old graphics card back in action for a 😵 WoT tournament that evening.

Bradley Lewis59 said:Online retailers around here can be a bit unpredictable, honestly. I usually don't bother looking anywhere else besides Amazon; even when you factor in an extra $25 or $30 for shipping, it still ends up being a much better deal than buying locally. I actually just spotted one there for only $390. $907It arrived right at my doorstep, delivered straight to me. 😁

Personally, I’ve always been the type who prefers having something tangible in my hands at the end of the day. There is just a certain level of satisfaction that comes with being able to walk into a local shop, pick up an item, and bring it home right then and there. If it means I can head down to the nearest Target or Best Buy and actually hold the product, I don't mind paying a bit extra to make that happen; honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to drop $200 on something if it meant avoiding the wait for a delivery.$100 I’ve been thinking quite a bit about how much more we could achieve if we simply leaned into the momentum we’ve built lately. It honestly feels like we are standing on the precipice of something truly significant, and I can't help but feel a sense of genuine excitement about where this is all heading. I remember back when I first started working in my field, everything felt so fragmented and disconnected, but seeing this level of cohesion now is just wonderful. There is so much more potential waiting to be tapped if we stay focused. 😁
Linda Young said:I just sent an inquiry over to UziShop. Thanks for the tip—hopefully they'll have 🕺

But like I mentioned, when I asked about the headphones, I was only looking for a different color. Their inventory shouldn't really change because they're the EXACT same headset, just a different shade. They carry black, but white isn't an option... they can't get their hands on white right now. Honestly, no matter how complicated their supply chain is, it shouldn't be so difficult to swap out a color; the components, price, quality, shipping, and everything else remain identical 😵

That isn't necessarily the case, though. Sometimes, even something as simple as switching from black to white can actually result in a difference in price... 👍

Good grief. How on earth did you manage to sweep all of that up so quickly?

On a different note, at least now you finally have a chance to tidy up your desktop a bit.😁
I have a feeling that Nina (Uzishop) might be able to put in a special order if they allow for customizations like that.

It wouldn't hurt for them to send over a quick email just to check; there’s really nothing lost in asking.
You should definitely take a look at UziShop. Just a little heads-up if you decide to pull the trigger on an order there: make sure you sign up through PC Expert first, because they’ll toss you an extra 3% discount on top of everything else 👍
