I suppose I should probably say something about this whole situation, though my mind keeps wandering toward other things... like how much easier life would be if we could just sit down and talk without everything turning into such a massive production... but anyway, I’ve been sitting here thinking about what everyone is saying, and it feels like we're all just circling the same drain, hoping for a different result that never actually comes... it’s a bit exhausting, honestly, if you think about it too long... turns out, when you really peel back the layers of these arguments, there isn't much substance left underneath, just a lot of noise and people shouting into the void while the rest of us just try to make sense of it all... maybe it's just me, or maybe we're all just waiting for something that isn't coming... It seems like there wasn't any text provided to rewrite... if you have a specific post or message you want me to transform, just paste it here and I'll get to work on it immediately... I mean, wasn't most of that defense force made up of those paramilitary groups, you know, like the ones modeled after the old Nazi Germany units... 🤷
Wait, aren't those people veterans...?
Regarding the whole topic at hand, I honestly feel like it was just a bit foolish to offer that greeting out loud in public, especially since we all clearly remember who was the last person to ever use it...
I mean, wouldn't you say that most of those veterans were part of those quasi-military, extremist groups—sort of like the old paramilitary outfits back during the Nazi Germany era—and they would frequently use that "Blood and Soil" salute at the very end...
Anthony Perez9 It’s like what Carl Wilson10 was saying earlier... you know how things just seem to drift sometimes, without anyone really noticing the shift happening right under our noses... it makes you wonder if we're all just reacting to things that were decided long before we even showed up to the table... anyway, I was thinking about it while driving through Chicago yesterday, and it hit me that everything is connected in these strange, looping ways... turns out... No, honestly, that ball-handler knows exactly what he just said... he’s fully aware of the weight behind those words, yet he’s making a conscious choice to stay silent and refuse to clarify his position...
I wonder if we’re eventually going to reach a point where anyone who dares shout ZDS gets pinned against a wall... just held there and pressured until they finally admit whether they were actually invoking those old Nazi Germany slogans or not...
Basically, no matter how hard the far-right extremists and the communists tried to smear that greeting among Americans, it’s pretty clear they just couldn't make it stick...
Just please, for once, just accept it...
Just like you guys went ahead and accepted the dollar...
I don't want to get too deep into this, but you have to wonder about their methods, because those paramilitary groups on both sides did some pretty terrible things.
In my opinion, those specific units are a pretty negative example, haha.
That salute has been totally discredited, especially outside of the US.
hollowtrucker77 said:It isn't viewed negatively by everyone, just by people who haven't bothered to study any history prior to 1941.
Like I mentioned before, that salute is stigmatized, and usually, when someone uses it, you can tell pretty quickly if they hold radical views or if they're just being patriotic.
History is one thing, but the actual attitude of the person shouting the salute matters just as much.
No apologies for drifting slightly off-topic, but I'm going to head out now.😉
James Patel20 said:Does that include the veterans who were shouting Blood and Soil back during the war too?
And what about those hundred thousand people on Facebook who stood behind Šimunić?
Why is it so easy for you to just throw around these "diagnoses" like they don't mean anything at all...
As for the thread itself, I honestly don't mind that it's been locked, because I am just completely fed up with listening to self-proclaimed "doctors" acting like this guy above... ☕
weren't most of those veterans part of paramilitary groups similar to Nazi Germany units?🤷
Anyway, sticking to the main point, I think it was pretty foolish to use that salute in public since we all know exactly who used it last; we could try to argue it's been outdated for a hundred years, but most people see it in a negative light and it's just something that shouldn't be used, especially when the whole thing ends up being broadcast to an international audience.
I didn't actually suggest we bring in all those silly Facebook-like features like likes and whatnot, though I do think having a simple "thanks" button could be pretty handy for certain threads
The truth is, Reddit feels slow because the folks running the show are just being lazy and incompetent, and honestly, that goes for the owner too
It’s not just about aesthetics or chasing "trendy" little details, but there are real ways to level up the experience, like allowing YouTube embeds, adding spoiler tags, or even letting users rate specific topics...
I honestly don't see much point in wasting my breath arguing with people like you when you clearly have zero interest in seeing any progress, because a site like this needs to evolve over time rather than staying stuck in the past, and since new tech is always coming out, we really should be adapting to it instead of just staying frozen in time forever
mellowlynx68 said:Can we please just start closing threads like this the moment they go up? Or maybe just merge them with older ones so we don't even have to bother with a new title in the first place. And for those of you acting like you're "anti-feature" enthusiasts on this Reddit-style site, it might be worth actually using the internet and this platform properly by using a search engine to find previous discussions—there've been several of these just this year—to realize that most people here are actually against it. If you really can't stand it, feel free to head over to those "kid-friendly" forums where everyone uses massive avatars and signatures in a million different colors and shapes.
We aren't against new features; we just want to see this place move past being stuck in the mud, though it looks like that’s impossible since the management doesn't seem interested in making any changes at all. That's exactly why it stays stagnant, because there’s zero incentive for them to actually work on upgrading the site.
And let's not get into a fight about "kid forums," because honestly, serious niche forums out there have much more advanced features than this mess.
I'm just being honest, really; a forum is basically a reflection of the people living in this country, so it isn't surprising that everyone is so closed-minded, rejecting every improvement and then spitting on it too.
Instead of just trolling, maybe try pointing out how that actually hurts the Reddit community
The site looks pretty rough because of a bunch of different issues; honestly, it feels really outdated, and if you can't see that, there isn't much I can do to help you out
I honestly get a little worried about people who do nothing but talk trash and troll, especially since the site is slow and constantly throwing errors at you, so if you're some kind of masochist, I guess I'm not your guy
Just because you're resistant to change and want to stay stuck in the 90s forever doesn't mean the rest of us have to be dragged down with you
It would honestly be such a huge help if people stopped cluttering things up with pointless thank-you posts, and maybe we could dial back on all the "lol" comments and endless strings of emojis whenever something is slightly funny instead of just spamming the feed
I have a feeling nothing is actually going to change, and this site will probably look just as outdated in five years as it does now, though I really think we should take a page out of Stack Overflow's book regarding design
not to mention those constant errors that seem to pop up all the time, haha
Honestly, this whole forum feels like it’s stuck in the last century, so I can't believe you haven't stumbled upon features like that before elsewhere
And that whole thing about the Facebook reaction? It's basically just a poster at this point, especially since they haven't managed to fix it even after all these months, lol
Suggestion: we should really consider adding some quick reaction buttons to the Reddit interface, like a "thanks," a "lol," or even a "disagree"...
It would be such a nice way for people to share feedback on posts or just show some appreciation without having to clutter up everyone's feed with extra replies.
To be honest, I feel like our platform is lagging a little behind most other sites these days, so implementing something like this would honestly be a huge step in the right direction. ☕
lol honestly, the amount of storage those messages take up is practically nothing when you look at how many spam threads pop up every single day, plus there are plenty of folks who don't even have Facebook or iMessage just because they belong to a much older generation than the usual social media crowd
if people just don't want to allow it, then that’s one thing, but making excuses that we don't need the feature or saying we can just delete things constantly is honestly pretty lame😳
northernpilot2 said:Aside from just eating up some extra space on the server, I don't really think there's much else to worry about. Even then, that storage hit probably isn't going to be anything massive, but since this is such a huge forum with a ton of active members, bumping things up to 200 seems totally reasonable to me. It's basically just doubling it, which feels like a pretty fair move. 🙂
If you really sit down and look at the averages, you'll see that most members aren't exactly hitting those massive numbers, so aiming for a limit of around 500 to 1,000 messages feels like a pretty reasonable sweet spot to me. Since we're mostly just dealing with plain text, it isn't exactly a resource hog, and I'm fairly confident we could run some really efficient compression on it to keep things tidy.
rapidhawk22 said:Our server gets so overwhelmed that even just sneezing toward the monitor while the forum is open is enough to crash the whole thing. 🤣
Honestly, I’m totally on board with that, though I don't really have a strong horse in this race myself.
Honestly, 1,000 posts isn't actually that much, and I think northerncyclist2 makes a fair point since most people here probably won't even hit that theoretical limit anyway, though it would definitely be helpful for a few of us 🙂
Besides, we're just talking about text, so I really don't see how that could possibly put any significant strain on the servers
Thanks so much to everyone who's backing this suggestion 😉
Honestly, it feels a little cheap having to toggle an option just to expand your inbox, because I feel like it’s so easy to lose track of what you actually said if someone doesn't quote you, leaving you basically just guessing at your own words sometimes.
Honestly, there’s another forum out there that’s easily a thousand times better designed than this one, and even a regular user can post up to 1,000 messages without any hassle, so I really don't see why it's such a struggle to implement, because let's be real, this whole site feels pretty obsolete in its current state 😳
I honestly think it might be worth looking into bumping up the limit from 10^2 to 10^3 messages, because when you really sit down and crunch the numbers, it feels a little stingy—especially since those sent messages count toward the total too.
It shouldn't put much of a strain on the infrastructure at all, since most of what we're sending is just plain text anyway. I'd bet the mods have basically unlimited capacity so they probably aren't sweating it, but I'd love it if you guys could just give this suggestion a little thought.
