Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Kenneth Bailey14 said:I have been taking Diane for about eleven months now. My skin has definitely improved—those angry, red inflammatory breakouts along my jawline have finally subsided—but it hasn't been a total transformation. I’m still dealing with daily breakouts; some clear up quickly while others seem to linger indefinitely. Even though these pills are specifically prescribed to regulate hormonal acne rather than just for contraception, I still haven't achieved perfectly clear skin. I plan to switch medications in about a month, and frankly, I can't wait to see if something else works better.🙂 😁

My complexion actually got worse since I started the pill. 😢 Before this, I didn't have any issues at all, but now I'm just covered in these rashes. To be honest, it feels more like an allergic reaction or some kind of stinging irritation than actual acne. Totally weird. And I'm definitely not a fan. 🙂
Look, I don't have some magic answer for you, but I totally get it. I’ve been dealing with this same massive hematoma for 11 days now after getting my wisdom teeth pulled. It was huge at first—honestly pretty intimidating—but now it’s shrunk down to something like a tiny little pea. You can still feel it under your finger, though, just like a weird little lump. My dentist told me to use ice and maybe massage it gently if I could. I think I went a bit overboard with the ice, though, because now my face is turning shades of blue and purple 🙄 At least it seems to be shrinking every single day. They told me to swing back by the office if things don't look better by tomorrow, but they didn't seem particularly worried about it. Not much help from me, I guess. All in all 😁

Great, thanks. Heading off to choke down my pills now 🙂

My aunts are being absolute pains and won't let me touch any Folate—and honestly, I’m not exactly itching to deal with a doctor just to get a prescription. Between the endless waiting rooms and the constant arguing, it's just not worth the headache. So, how did you guys figure out your dosage if you're taking it for HPV? Right now, I'm just popping one or two Twinlab tablets, but it feels like I'm barely doing anything. Does anyone actually know what the recommended daily amount of folic acid should be for us?

They wouldn't give me the Folate without a prescription—so I just grabbed some Twinlab Folic Acid caps instead. Honestly, there’s a dozen different brands of folic acid out there anyway.
Dealing with HPV - any advice? in Health ·
Look, everything you need to know has already been said. My results were the same—I just knew I was positive for high-risk HPV, but didn't have the specific strain identified. Your results depend entirely on which test they run—either Digene or an HPV DNA PCR test. Based on what I saw on the Quest Diagnostics website, they clearly used Digene for both of us. I'm not claiming to be some genius here 😉. But check this out—it’s straight from their site. Do yourself a favor and actually read the latest updates on these medical pages. You'll pick up a lot more that way.

The Digene hc2 (Hybrid capture 2) HPV DNA test falls under hybridization DNA testing. It’s the go-to for most diagnostic labs because it’s been around forever—it doesn't require crazy specialized lab conditions or highly trained molecular geneticists, making it the easiest and cheapest option for a lab to run. It works by grouping the test into 13 high-risk HPV types and 5 low-risk types.

Rebecca, I'm heading to see Dr. Gršić-Burić. Personally, I’m fine with it. Maybe she and her nurse come off a bit cold or overly serious at first—at least that was my impression—but it’s not actually like that. The doctor really wants to walk you through everything, and the nurse is genuinely trying, too. So far, so good.
The official name is Modus Child, Youth and Family Center. They offer both group sessions and one-on-one work—standard stuff. Give them a call at 4621 554; you can reach them anytime between 9 and 5. From what I've gathered, the counseling is free, though you should probably double-check that before you get your hopes up. They might have a website—if not their own, then maybe somewhere under the Psychological Help Society umbrella.
Look, my mom’s a psychologist, and her advice is pretty straightforward—go check out the Modus counseling center over on Broadway. They’re part of the American Psychological Association, so you’ll actually find professionals there who are ready to listen and help you work through this. If you'd rather go through a referral from your doctor, you could always see a psychiatrist or a psychologist at the Mayo Clinic, or just hit up a local Community Health Center and ask around. There are plenty of other clinics out there too.
