Republican Party - General Discussion in Political Scene ·

"Bold Plenković" is riding the coronavirus wave straight into yet another victory.
It’s hard to imagine anything hitting him that hard in the media without backfiring.

hollowmason64 said:On the flip side, all that panic over the virus basically acted like a smoke screen for them. It allowed all sorts of shady business and questionable court rulings to slip right under the radar. For instance, an administrative court just ruled that the oversight commission didn't actually have the authority to question the Republican Party leader's close ties when it comes to making appointments. Then you have the Supreme Court, which just handed down a reduced sentence to a Republican official today—even though he funneled $120,000 into his wife’s company. By cutting that penalty, they’re essentially making sure the official stays in power.

Honestly, who knows what other even bigger messes are being swept under the rug? They’re banking on the fact that everyone is too distracted to notice what they're doing now.
I'll say it again—as long as this one party keeps running things without any real accountability, nothing is ever going to change in this country.

You really think they won't jump ship to another equally profitable party the second things get shaky?
People used to believe that once the old guard was gone, everything would be pure as honey. Instead, we're drowning in it.

Hold on. They haven't even been born yet.

What could these elections actually change for the country, the people, or even just the "little guy"?

"According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the GDP per capita in the US was only about 63 percent of the global average back in 2018. That’s essentially on par with the average GDP per capita found in places like Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, French Guiana, or even Hawaii, which, when you group them all together, sat at roughly 64 percent of the global average in 2018.

He points out that other emerging economies have pulled ahead of us much faster; now, the Romanians are outpacing us in development, and the Bulgarians are catching up quickly. In fact, statistics show that certain regions in Romania, specifically those in the west, have already become more developed than our own domestic regions.

- We have a broken economic structure. We put all our eggs in the tourism basket while completely ignoring regional growth and manufacturing. If we stay on this path, we might even see Mexico overtake us in the near future, as they are growing at quite impressive rates," Novotny notes.

These political teams are still foolishly leaning on tourism. Even someone without a degree in economics can see that this strategy is either pure incompetence or outright betrayal.

Social media is currently buzzing with four different petitions aimed at forcing the US Congress to implement a tax on hospitality services. So far, just over 770 citizens have stepped up to sign.

The whole thing kicked off when a receipt surfaced from a cafe right near the Capitol building, clearly showing that no tax had been charged. Apparently, people have finally had enough of this loophole.

Only 770 people? Wow.
At this rate, we aren't going to change a damn thing. 🙏

Within that flock of self-righteous patriots, you find the hypocrites who earned 65,000 USD teaching religion for a few years, only to spend hundreds of thousands on adult websites.

In that same flock, you find those who delay prison sentences by claiming illness, yet show up instantly when it is time to throw iron bars at the LAPD.

Every flock has various birds, but most of them are scavengers.

Scavengers are actually incredibly useful. Without them, this whole world would be suffocating under the stench and the diseases left behind by carcasses.
I don't see anyone on the human side, and I'm not seeing any approximate values either.

Mark Hughes36 said:Who’s talking about what? Harmon and the Republican Party lecturing us on human rights and democracy... 🙄

We built our country to protect human rights and media freedom, but human rights primarily serve the majority of the American people. However, through this American liberty and democracy, we will naturally ensure those same rights and press freedoms for the minority as well.

A schizophrenic statement from a deeply unwell man who couldn't grasp the concept of true democracy or actual freedom. Despite trying to mask it in nationalist rhetoric, he was essentially saying this:

We, the Republicans and other nationalists, built this country for human rights and media freedom—but primarily for the rights of Republicans and nationalists. Everyone else (non-patriots, "outsiders," or those who don't meet our standards), if they aren't happy, can always leave... this land belongs solely to us, the Republicans and nationalists.

Had he lived, he wouldn't have conceded the election results, and I think we all know where that would have led. Our constant verbal civil war would almost certainly have escalated into physical violence. In that sense, Karamarko is actually Harmon's most devoted follower; his reckless campaign pushed Americans closer to physical conflict than anyone since the beginning. Constant verbal warfare keeps people just agitated enough that it's only a matter of time before insults turn into violence.

It’s obvious to anyone with eyes that they never truly intended to build a functional democracy or a working market economy. Following their usual pattern of exploiting one system to feed another, they were only ever interested in serving themselves and carving up society to fit their twisted value system.

The failed, lagging state of America today is the direct result of that sick political legacy (from the Republican Party and Harmon).

A board member at a mid-sized firm told me a few years ago, almost verbatim: "Why are you complaining now? The Republican Party has spent years ignoring victims of past atrocities, and now we're finally the majority!"

That sentiment captures the very essence and mission of the Republican Party.

As I concluded back in my college days, long before I reached full maturity:

The Republican Party is a modern curse upon the American people.

👍
Or, to put it as brilliantly as Ms. Vokić once did:
"I don't get why people are so obsessed with whether a school principal is a member of the Republican Party or not. Back in the Communist era, you couldn't be a principal unless you were a member of the party."

Only 18 out of 49 representatives actually voted in favor of the IRS proposal. A solid 31 stood their ground against it.

Walter Baker2 said:I honestly think we’re witnessing the death knell for the Republican Party as a legitimate political force. It’s reaching a breaking point where the hardliners are either going to stage a total takeover or walk out the door entirely.

What makes you say "serious"?
They’re a massive party—the biggest one, actually. Even the old Democratic Party they grew out of was a powerhouse.
But calling them a "serious" party? That's a joke. 🙏
A serious party would actually put its resources, expertise, and influence toward improving the lives of its citizens.
From where I'm sitting, they're just showing us exactly what their only true priority is.
Republican Party - General Discussion in Political Scene ·
There’s no need to make this a massive drama.
It’s all just part of the natural order.

Morgan Cook10 said:But honestly, it makes sense.

The left (and I don't mean our side, since they just mindlessly parrot whatever the party headquarters tells them to)... well, the left has been in power for decades now. They've become the establishment, which naturally makes them the enemy of the average person. The same thing happened to whoever came before them, and it's exactly what will happen to whoever comes after.

Back in the day, these cycles might have taken centuries to play out. But nowadays, thanks to technology and, more importantly, democracy, we get to watch the whole process unfold within a single generation.

For me, nothing is more satisfying than seeing an ordinary person go viral online, screaming, "Stick your fancy perks and holidays up your ass!"... It's that same everyday person who decided to take a stand against Basitlja.👍

If you're going to label those in power as "the Left" (I almost wrote "the Left" just to give it some boring, unrecognizable dimension), then at least call them the Far-Left or the radical Left.

Chris Myers said:The biggest culprit behind this mess—by far—is the left. Mostly over in the West and across Europe (and here in the States—look no further than the Democratic Party).

It isn’t just because they’re weak, or because they’ve lost every shred of their moral compass, or even because they’ve become the total antithesis of what they used to be. It’s simpler than that: they just abandoned the working class and rural folks to a pit of despair, leaving them wide open for the modern right to swoop in. They basically turned into corporate shills, chasing money that fuels the downfall of every blue-collar worker in Europe and America, and honestly, everyone else too. They've become nothing more than puppets for big corporate capital, which couldn't care less about destroying the environment, tearing apart families, or wrecking the very foundations of society...

And I say this as an atheist and a liberal-leftist at heart—though certainly not one of those pseudo-liberals the so-called "left" crawls alongside today. As it stands, there isn't a trace of a true left wing left.

So, we ended up with this paradox in the US where people like me have also thrown our support behind Trump. It’s simple: even though he's a conservative, he's a hell of a lot less of a fraud than what is perceived as the "left" in America.

I hope you tell yourself that often enough that you actually start believing it. 🙂
POLL: Online Licensing—Yes or No? in Psychology ·
Ronald Rogers27 said:After everything I’ve seen and dealt with online lately, I’ve started asking myself one big, fundamental question: should the internet be wide open to everyone, or should people have to pass some kind of psychological sanity check—maybe even a formal exam on digital etiquette—to earn what we could call an "internet permit" or a license to go online?

Think of it like getting a driver's license. Sure, anyone can walk out and buy a car or a high-end PC, but that doesn't mean they should be behind the wheel without knowing what they're doing. Not everyone gets to drive just because they own a vehicle. I'm just using that as an analogy to make my point.

Basically, if you want to get connected, you'd have to prove you passed the test and show that your "license" hasn't been suspended due to too many violations. 👍

What do you guys think? 🤷

I'm all for it. Great idea.
After all, if someone can pass a basic internet safety check, they might actually be qualified to run for President or, heaven forbid, raise a child.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough.
Just search YouTube for "angry German kid with his dad" if you really want to lose your mind.
That'll give you plenty of "examples" to choose from.
Progress or just spoiled kids? in Psychology ·
If you check YouTube, just below little Fritz, there’s a clip of his father reacting to a "disobedient" computer.
It’s the exact same lines and the same reactions, just dressed up in a suit and a bit more subtle.
The kid didn't need to travel far to learn how things work. He learned it right at home.
Chronic alcoholism in Psychology ·
If you’re actually serious about making a move, your best bet is to reach out to an Alcoholics Anonymous chapter near you. Just pull up Google, search for local meetings, and you'll find all the addresses and contact info you need.
Technically, you can only become a full member once you've completed treatment, but they’ll give you the roadmap and the practical advice you need right now. Since everyone in those rooms has been through that same hell, you'll get support from people who actually understand what you're going through without any judgment.
There are all kinds of people struggling there, so don't go thinking you're some kind of special case.

Sandra Parker3 said:The logic is a little mixed up here.

Basically, forcing yourself to eat things when you're already full isn't going to help a single hungry kid; all it's going to do is make you overweight.🙄

The mindset should be different—like, don't hoard food you know you won't finish, or maybe just eat bread that's a couple of days old instead of tossing it... though I honestly have no clue how doing that helps anyone else.

And look, I hate wasting food too; it actually makes me feel physically sick whenever I do it, but I truly don't see the connection between my trash can and feeding the hungry.🤷

Obviously, it won't help them.
It’s the same as talking about wishes; wishing isn't enough. You have to actually want something intensely, and then life sort of figures out a way to make it happen.
Total nonsense, really. But if you want something badly enough, maybe your motivation hits a level where you actually find a way to pull it off.
It’s the same deal with people who are starving. Starving yourself won't help them.
But, if you take a little from your excess—if you save money by not wasting food or by skipping that 58th shopping trip for clothes or shoes (I've always been terrible with shoes)—then you might actually be able to donate something. You could drop things off at a local food bank or the Red Cross, or give to the homeless, or perhaps even an elderly neighbor down the street..
That’s how it works.
