If the Norwegians play anything like they did against Germany yesterday instead of how they played against France, I think we’re toast. Their ball movement is just too quick, their defense is holding firm, and their keepers are actually dialed in. They look way sharper than they did during the first round when they took us down, even if I reckon we could have played a much better game ourselves. Honestly, I'm just bummed we didn't make the final against Germany, so everything else feels kind of meaningless at this point.
Someone already mentioned how we just sort of stumbled our way into the semifinals and that we don't really have a gold-medal roster. I mean, that’s true, but France and the Danes actually have rosters built for that, which is why they crashed out. We basically blew it again, and honestly, I’m worried we won't get another shot like this anytime soon. Ever since 2004, we just haven't had a goalie who can step up in those clutch moments and rack up 10 or 15 saves, or at least turn away three or four easy ones. I remember back in Lin's era, we could make it to the semis even if the goalie only had like five or six good saves, which is kind of tragic when you think about it. When you've got a goalie in the zone, you end up playing teams like Poland, but when you have a real, elite keeper, you start seeing these kinds of games more often. And look, when you have an actual professional coaching staff, you call a timeout when you're up 2-0 in a semifinal, or you tweak things when it's 3-0. But when you're up 8-1? You just let the whole team go to hell and... well, you know. What a beautiful strategy. We need someone like Noka, or the late Kljun, to just come in and slap sense into them, because this generation just doesn't have the same depth as that 2003 squad, so you can't just sit there expecting pure talent to pull off a miracle. And seriously, enough with the excuses about being tired. Don't we have any experts left who actually know how to plan a training camp, from the basic stuff all the way to the technical and tactical side? Like, just hire some people from a Kinesiology department; I assume there are plenty of folks around there who are close to the Republican Party if that's what it takes to get the job!! The Spaniards DID NOT, they simply DID NOT deserve to win yesterday, because we practically had them on the ropes. Their keepers were having an off day, and we started the game perfectly... I don't want to be a total downer, but I am disappointed. We could have done more. Or maybe we couldn't, but we definitely didn't take what was handed to us because a few players just lost their nerve. It wasn't just one guy—you can always swap one player out—but it was several guys on the court, plus whoever was sitting on the bench. A chance like this to grab a European Championship title without France in the mix? I'm afraid we won't see another one of those for a long, long time.
I mean, you really can't go too hard on Sebetic or Maric for those mistakes... I guess we just didn't have that Duleta energy today... our defense basically just fell apart over some total nonsense...
Man, these kinds of swings in momentum are just wild. I mean, it’s crazy how much a coach can help by giving solid advice, but it also feels like they can totally mess things up with a bad tactical call, too. If you don't nail those first five minutes of each half, you're basically done.
Man, does Čupić have some kind of lifetime reservation or something? Like, is he booked out until 2099? I mean, why does he have to mess up every single play just to make sure Horvat never actually gets a shot on the floor?

I guess Kim's real issue is still qualifying. In Monaco, you're basically doomed if you have to follow someone slower. On most other tracks—aside from maybe Canada—that shouldn't be such a massive headache.
Anyway, that little clip from the official site that you shared really seems to point the finger back at Lewis, suggesting he's mostly to blame for losing that top spot. Honestly, screw-ups like that could easily cost him the whole championship.
I'm leaning towards thinking Kim's main struggle is actually getting those tires up to temperature. His race pace is pretty much right up there with Vettel's, but he just doesn't seem to have that immediate snap in the opening laps. Qualifying sessions, and especially Monaco, have really highlighted that gap.
Roger Wright94 said:Kimi was kind of a letdown, though I guess I’d probably give Ricciardo a penalty for that overtake. I mean, he did touch him, bumped him, and disrupted him regardless, so there's that.
stormybadger8 said:Looking back at the replay, I might even go as far as saying maybe Ricciardo should have taken the penalty before Alonso did... I suppose the fallout is different, and yeah, the damage in Alonso’s case with Hulkenberg was pretty significant—which is probably why they went after him—whereas what Ricciardo did to Kimi was minimal since nobody actually broke anything, but still, Alonso was alongside Hulkenberg for quite a while and eventually Hulk just had to give way, so you can't really claim he was caught off guard or forced out, whereas Ricciardo’s move was a whole different ballgame with that aggressive shove right where there just isn't any room...
So, all things considered, given how everything played out, the penalty should have at least been the same, or maybe even handed out to Ricciardo sooner than Alonso...
Penalizing Alonso feels like total nonsense to me. From what I saw, it looked like Hulkenberg was trying to dive into the corner right over Alonso while he was level with the car. Just seems silly. Kimi and Ricciardo are in completely different leagues here. Kimi was struggling with his tires and basically chasing the car down the whole track after the Safety Car, while Ricciardo was flying and just muscled his way past. If Kimi had gone off the track, Ricciardo would've almost certainly caught it.
All in all, if little Max hadn't been such an overhyped kid, I guess this whole race would've just been a total snooze fest. Having a wild, absolutely livid Hamilton on the track can only be a good thing for the rest of the season, really. A massive 👍 congrats to Button for snagging those first points for McLaren Honda. Everything else was pretty much forgettable, honestly.

I mean, why haven't they ever really gone head-to-head like this at the Monaco Grand Prix before? I guess the answer is that both the driver and the team are just missing that certain... spark, maybe.
Man, don't be such a kid about it. When your teammate is literally the only guy standing between you and the title, you can sort of let things slide. I suppose I could wrap my head around it, especially since Nico Rosberg is basically the hometown hero here. 😁
I mean, did you actually think some Spanish web designer was gonna be the one to snag the first points in this whole McLaren-Honda era? Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but honestly... ☕
cosmicridge5 said:So, come on, spill it—how exactly did you manage to mess this up for yourself? 🙏
I guess you just haven't quite caught on yet. If Kimi somehow pulls off a championship by some absolute miracle, he’d probably end up being his own biggest fan. 😬
Jason Campbell70 said:I wonder if Rajkonen was actually crossing the yellow line when he was pulling out of the pits... maybe? I can't quite tell, but it looked a little sketchy to me. 🍿
darkmarlin16 said:I mean, I guess if you look closely at the footage, it looks like Raikkonen was definitely clipping the line right as he was peeling out of the pits. It’s probably nothing, maybe just the way the camera angle catches him, but he seemed to be hugging that line way too tight during the exit.
Honestly, you cultists can hate all you want, but at this point, you guys don't even recognize what a real race car looks like anymore.
😁
I mean, honestly, I guess this guy’s just straight-up the most thorough person in the whole damn thread, if you even want to call it that. 😁
