Sanctions on Russia in War in Ukraine ·
Amy Diaz222 said:**bold and enlarged:** there is absolutely no way they would "reconcile" because—

—unlucky French pundits are just blathering away—pundits who now have to shell out $100 billion to the US Army for weaponry, plus many, many more billions for "refined gas"... 😁

Regarding this supposed "crash" on the Russian exchange (calling it the "Russian exchange" sounds ridiculous—stock markets don't have a "nationality"😵)—

—perhaps we should dial back the hysteria a bit.... 🤔

I mean, it is well known how back in 2014, following the sanctions, all those "experts" were predicting exactly how many days or weeks it would take for Russia to go bankrupt.... 😵

And yet, quite the opposite happened after 2014.... 🤔

So, one really ought to wait a little longer—

—instead of quoting the predictions of miserable French commentators, whom Washington toys with even more than they toy with those clueless Ukrainians.... 👍

Man, honestly, I don't know what else people are going to try and read on this forum, good grief.... 🤦

I mean, I suspect the folks over in China are pretty aware of this
so it’s really more about how they decide to play their hand in the end, since turning Russia into just some random pawn doesn't exactly look great for them.
And honestly, a major showdown between China and the USA feels like it could be right around the corner; I bet a lot of people hanging out on this forum are going to feel that one personally.

Back in the 60s, you had these types of armchair analysts predicting a massive clash between the USA and the USSR within this very decade.
I guess we should ask what Russia actually means to China in any real sense? Politically, they’re like a dead man who somehow crawled back to life lately thanks to aggressive moves, military muscle, and high oil prices. Economically, they basically just export hydrocarbons, minerals, and grain. Tech-wise and organizationally, they seem to be lagging behind the rest of the modern world by at least a decade. And trade-wise, their balance with Russia is like 1:10 compared to what they pull in from the USA—and that’s not even counting the West or everyone else standing with them.
If you really think China is going to side with Russia and just casually walk away from a market worth well over a trillion bucks a year just to protect maybe 60 billion they get from Russia, well, you might want to rethink that.

At this rate, even the Chinese are gonna walk all over him and snatch up his oil and gas for pennies on the dollar.

Exactly this. I feel like I've said it a few times now, but this whole mess is mostly just going to end up hurting Russia and Russians in the long run. People who think Putin actually has some kind of loyal best friend in China are seriously misreading the situation, I guess. The Chinese are playing their own game, looking out for their own interests... they're just waiting around and counting their money while everything plays out.

bluemason3 said:It isn't about having genuine concern for the small nations; it's about protecting the strategic interests and the overall survival of NATO. That sense of purpose would vanish if there weren't a clear reason to act against an attack on a member state. In other words, the idea is to respond to an assault because it serves the interests of all other members, not because they actually care about the victim.

I mean, NATO is basically just words on a page, and in reality, it's more like an alliance that works for whatever the biggest players want.
Maybe we're all just extra sensitive because this is happening right here in Europe, but honestly, there have been way worse wars scattered across the globe over the last 20 years or so that most of us barely even blinked at. And no, I don't think Putin is just going to suddenly stop in Ukraine—heaven forbid—but I guess I'm just worried that the world we're living in is undergoing some pretty deep, fundamental changes.

It’s kind of embarrassing seeing someone like Hitler in Washington, D.C. looking that foolish.

silentfalcon3 said:Berlin is quite close to the Baltic coast, and Brussels isn't much further away either...

I really just want this whole madness to stop, honestly. You've got the lives of over 200 million people indirectly caught up in this mess, but please, don't try telling me that the USA or NATO is actually going to go to war with Russia over somewhere like Latvia or America.
War is such a weird anomaly, it doesn't just happen out of nowhere, and if you look at history, the big players never, ever truly give a damn about the little guys.

Whether you call it the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation, or the Union State of Russia and Belarus—it’s really just a case of old wine in new bottles; the names change, but the behavior stays exactly the same.

That sounds like something you'd tell a toddler. If Russia ever decides to push toward the Baltic, I have a feeling NATO and the USA might just end up sitting on their hands... and staying right where they are.

No offense intended, ladies, President It’s pretty obvious he just leans towards guys, so I guess every single post from a woman on this forum is basically just an eyesore to him...
😬
I can't say I've ever seen a handball final called so unfairly; those German guys honestly deserve nothing but total respect.
Jim Gottfridsson, you absolute master and MVP, please lead the Swedish squad through one hell of an unforgettable party!

That win was just absolutely clinical, man. No shady business or playing dirty this time around—it actually went down clean.
The fact that everyone’s whining about it being rigged honestly just makes the victory taste even sweeter.
👋
It feels like Canellas spends his whole career moving in slow motion or something, but man, he always finds a way to make the big plays. I guess he’ll just be that wild card everyone keeps forgetting about for the next ten years.
😬
So, I guess after that wild Denver vs. Frankfurt rollerball showdown, we really need to start bracing ourselves for whatever tactical defensive madness Spain throws at us next.
Let's go, Sweden!!!!!
👋
I guess Mansah put up two and then just decided he was done since he was out there on his own, stopped shooting altogether.
😬
If Conan actually went out there and tried to take someone down, they wouldn't even last two minutes before it was all over.
Without Hansen, it’s basically just Denmark playing at an atomic level... I mean, if they’d actually had the sense to sub him in during that semifinal, we'd probably be looking at a gold medal match right about now, I guess.
I mean, I’d honestly be happiest if both teams just walked away with a trophy.
At least this way, you can say we were rooting for the Frenchmen.
👋
Even the refs can't save them now
😂

Go Swedes !!!!!!
Is it just me, or does it feel like the refs are being a little too friendly with the Frenchmen?
It would be a pretty beautiful story if those Swedes here actually stepped up and did something about it.
shadowcobra89 said:I mean, whoever is actually talking about letting things go like that seriously needs to get their head checked. I guess if you look at what happened in Norway just the other day, they basically did the exact same thing.

shadowcobra89 said:I mean, maybe they are a little bit. It’s not even like they were trying to help France move forward or anything, I guess... it feels more like they just let the other team through and decided to see whatever happens, whatever.

So, what took you so long to finally get your head on straight? I mean, I guess it happens to the best of us, but man, it felt like forever.
😬
Wood, just pure wood!!
👋

The Frenchmen are totally grabbing this up!
