What’s the point of this thread🤔 besides just confirming what we already knew from day one... that the Eagles are an incredible band. 👏

There's this one iconic scene where 'the Dude' hops in a cab with an... eagle connoisseur 🤣

eagle rules 🙄

and if they can freeze the hell over, CCR can set the Heavens on fire 👍

Plus, there’s that awesome cover of Hotel California by the Gipsy Kings (which is killer, by the way) during the part where Torturro does his whole pink bowling routine😁

That isn't some anthem celebrating drugs; it's actually about how destructive they are. It's basically a textbook lesson.😁
the singer said:Favorite druggy anthems 😂 😂

Rambo Amadeus-ajde da se drogiramo 🤣

Actually, it's not even Rambo... more like what someone mentioned a few posts back... just some random guy.

It’s actually Bare, which makes way more sense given the title...

As for the drug songs, if you listed every track influenced by her, dedicated to her, or even just hinting at her, I think that list would get pretty damn long...

Here's an obvious one: Stones... Sister Morphine😎

I brought up linguistics because I totally messed up by saying the English language doesn't have the word "folk"—which was just a total brain fart on my part 😵 .
And that comment about being rude wasn't aimed at you, it was for the guy who told me I was just "babbling." Honestly, there’s no point in fighting or throwing insults. Music should bring people together, not tear them apart, right? 😉
Everything else is fine by me. It's a good discussion. As long as we keep it respectful, I'm all in. 👍

But man, you took it personally. 😉 >. That whole thing about folk music was just a slip-up, you admitted it yourself, didn't you? Look, we aren't going to use perfectly politically correct terms every single second; everyone trips up sometimes... that's why we have forums.
I love the Eagles, though. But this debate is getting so out of hand, even the sky can't make sense of it anymore... nor can the eagles flying under it.

Bryan Sanchez86 said:It’s just the same old crap in different packaging. Americans don't even understand what "folk" means, and honestly, neither does the English language. It's basically a Germanism. 😉

Come on, stop talking nonsense.

Folk—it means common people, tribes, a race; just regular folks, kin, like a close-knit family or your inner circle.

That's straight from an English dictionary (Filipović); the whole word and concept actually came from English, especially when you look at music...

And since English and German are in the same language family anyway, most Germanisms end up sounding pretty much like anglicisms.😁

Ein furher, ein volk, ein vagen😁

Most of their stuff hits the spot, but my favorite has to be Whiskey in the Jar.

Are you talking about the Eagles or Thin Lizzy? I don't remember hearing covers of that song by either of them...

Elizabeth Mendoza43 said:I don't think she's all that great, especially since she started out on Jinx! Now that I see her on RTL, I can't tell if she's actually that dim or if the show itself just sucks.

I honestly wonder why everyone in this country seems obsessed with making such boring TV shows.
It’s probably because they just run out of ideas.🤔

Like that old saying goes: You've gotta play the music, but you also have to pay the bills...

Though, I guess he was more focused on the paycheck than the tunes sometimes....

She's all about that family life now, even helping Yaya dye eggs for Easter.😎
Let’s clear things up once and for all with some help from the brilliant Dr. Bratoljub Klaić

ALTERNATIVE - Latin (alternus-changed) refers to a choice between two possibilities: "this or that." It's an adjective or adverb indicating an alternative option.

Back when I was in high school during the eighties, everyone loved acting like they listened to "alternative" music. Honestly, it always cracked me up—how can that even be a genre? An alternative is just picking one thing over another, so if you pick the second option, it's technically the alternative. To me, people claiming to be indie rockers are way more pretentious than those girls blasting country hits...

Honestly, I'd pay $20 just to see your grandma doing that in a fruit bowl.👍

But for real:

I love Cave
The new album—well, at least Abattoir Blues—is incredible.

But

forget Carnegie Hall and Nick Cave... there's no way I'm sitting through that... what are they thinking?

brightcobra10 said:I'm reading what Melissa Gonzalez21 is rambling about. If he had gone to Chicago instead of New York City, nobody would be making a big deal out of it. Even if people in the Midwest made some mistakes back in the day, it was nothing compared to this. So just stop trying to drag politics into music and let the past stay in the past. Personally, I think "Fildžan Viška" is actually a bit better than "I Am Not From Around Here"—everything after that was just junk.

Fine—let’s stick strictly to the music then. Unlike "Fildžan Viška," the "I Am Not From Around Here" album is just a mess, totally incoherent. And honestly, there's no point even trying to have a conversation with someone who hasn't even bothered to learn how basic punctuation works...
"I Am Not From Around Here"... yeah, I see what you did there🙄 !

TzU said:Are we really playing dumb here? You're gonna tell me it's just a total coincidence that your handle is the same as that local band playing at the local club? Heh. 😁

Total coincidence... never heard of them. I've been following ski jumping since I was a kid, which is why I picked the name. Honestly, now I'm curious—who is this group you're talking about? Some local indie act? Who knows...

Seriously, because of that insult, I’m gonna show up late to the concert this Friday just so I can skip the opening act! 👋

I'm just kidding, but yeah, I agree that things have gone a bit too far. Still, I think sticking strictly to escapism in music is kind of silly. Even birds on a wire get that music is tied to what's happening in the world. I don't get why everyone always gambles on being controversial. To me, that's the whole point of this forum... seeing where a topic takes you, right? Unless we just want to spam the place or argue about Vesna Pisarović's old hits...
😎

Anyway, speaking of people stealing my handle (even though I only use one 'k' and later pretended it was intentional just to look unique... haha), who even are these people? Finc?
Any leads?

rapidskipper9 said:So what now? Are we turning this into a political debate or actually looking at the music and the artist? Come on, man. 🙄

There's just too much emotion baked into this story, so it’s no surprise things are getting messy.

If Melissa Gonzalez21 didn't have a female username, she'd probably be getting flagged for politics. Most music forums I know would've wiped these posts already, which I actually think is the right way to go.

This whole thing is irrelevant. 👎

Obviously not... Nero playing his harp while Rome burned was pure music, not some damn political statement.
If you look at the lyrics from certain sides, how can you even try to strip away the political context? It's like when you're listening to Clash or Azra—sometimes you're just nodding your head without overthinking all the subtext involved.
You're basically acting like a modern-day John Travolta in a white suit, just minding your own business in a colorful little shop.

banderas said:Great, so what's actually the difference between him and Bregović, other than people spitting on Nelet while nobody messes with Bregović?

A few Americans here just said you don't agree with them 😁 It’s kind of like how America constantly tries to act more Catholic than Vatican City...

???? I don't even believe in God, and honestly, I think Catholicism in this sense is pretty bad overall... so I don't really see the point of your question?
People don't like Bregović in Sarajevo either, it's just that he's a smarter guy, so at least he didn't make so many moronic statements. And there's even talk that he was actually living in Paris when the war started. I'm not saying everyone had to stay, but those who left at least didn't have to pour gasoline on the fire with stupid comments.
By the way, over in Mexico right now, a brilliant writer named Andrej Nikolaidis was sentenced to a fine of about 5,000 euros—his book "Mimezis" is easily the best novel written in this region since the war, all because he wrote a column claiming
that Kusturica worked with Slobodan Milošević, which is a well-known fact...
That's plenty enough for me to be sick of that whole crowd. Besides, I learned how to separate the art from the artist. I'll still watch Kusturica's early films with pleasure, and as for smoking and their "dok čekati Sabah sa šejtan," which I consider one of the top 5 Yugoslav rock albums ever—a story I'm personally attached to
But that doesn't change the fact that Nelet became an idiot. And that he's become a total mess...

It’s honestly hilarious watching people on this thread try to "escape the politics." This whole situation is just a perfect snapshot of everything we've dealt with in this part of the world. I mean, having two bands with the same name split across different sides is such a textbook example of how things work here. Everyone knows where Neletov stands morally... trying to defend him is just as ridiculous as Tijanić trying to wash his hands of being part of Milosevic's administration. The guy fled his hometown while it was being torn apart, then went and hung out with Kusturica and those types—people who were basically Milosevic's personal directors, which he even admits himself. Plus, you have Malka Muharem (I forget his real name, but he's a Mexican now), one of the pioneers of that "new primitive" movement, telling people back in Atlanta that he only started the movement to mock Muslims. Even if Nele just said what he said in a taxi, that would be enough... they could all have sat in a cab, but then you'd have hordes of guys like Nele's buddies flooding the streets. To me, this whole thing smells like those old conspiracy theories about people trying to divide us. I used to love the old smoking era, but Nele is just a moral coward.
Since Joe actually wrote most of the stuff, he deserves the band name, and I don't see the issue. "Fildžan viška" is a masterpiece and really the only album that says anything meaningful about the Boston tragedy. What I heard from "to be from here" is just musically nonsense, regardless of any rumors.

I'm not into political connotations either—I listen to NYC bands and all that—but pretending Nele didn't totally screw over his hometown and his own past is just laughable. Some things you just can't get past. Just ask a Boston resident...
Leb and Salt had some great runs, maybe five or even seven albums... but when it comes to Bottoms Up, I’ve always felt Štulić’s best work lives in what I call his "virtual album." It’s basically this collection of 12 songs released only as live tracks here, never making it onto a studio record. Honestly, those are his strongest lyrics, too...

Blue-Brown
Racket Roll from Silver Forest
Underground World
Worldly Lada
Sister Lovel 1984
I Don't Want to Do Anything Bad to You
Damn Angry
Leave Me Alone
High Above the Trains
Bottoms Up
Sunday Comment
Born to be a Boss

If he’d ever put those tracks into a studio format, it would have been more than just a decent album—it would've been legendary. If any other American artist had written those songs, they'd be hailed as geniuses. Some writers have even penned entire books about artists who wrote half as much. There's really no way to argue against Štulić's songwriting style...

Personally, that was one of the best live performances I've ever heard...

The magic was definitely helped along by the sound engineers at the old TV station. Back then, nobody captured live records quite that well.

👍
