You'll get it today along with some Nikšić. It's a fair trade.😁

Speaking of which, does anyone remember any Mexican Group besides Macadam?🤔

Solid first album. I remember the second one being pretty good too, though it’s been a minute since I spun it. I’m definitely coming, and I know a few others I can drag along—even my little brother, who actually makes an appearance at concerts once every five years!

Anyway, uh, Ford is from El Paso... 😉
Back then, we had Kameleon, September, Idiogen... all out of Koper...

That's totally on me. I think someone was from Santa Barbara too, but I can't quite place it (maybe a Gast'rbajtrs type?🤔 )

I'm down for Ford too. Trust me, we could find plenty of other freaks to swing by.😁

Help me out here—are you living in Texas or just somewhere else in this massive, sprawling country of ours?😁
banderas said:I'm not totally sure if Nine Inch Nails is from Pittsburgh or Denver, though I think they're originally from Denver. 😁

Haha. Just a joke from Pittsburgh...

The Automobile Group was based out of Colony.😁

Don't get me wrong, but I also have the right to disagree with your disagreement regarding the whole complicated conclusion that the concert was just one massive, top-tier experience.

dr. Frankenstein; "oh my God, I've created an old man" 😲

😁 😛

But look, it definitely was. I'd be an idiot to trash something that clearly hit home for so many people. It would be stupid to say anything about their musical skill, which is undeniable. I just wanted to point out that, somehow, the chemistry just wasn't there for me. Maybe I was just in a bad mood, who knows? I even tried some vodka to help, but no luck (per $5.25, bless their hearts). Even in my first post, I mentioned I was probably the only one who didn't vibe with the show. I was with three girls who mostly spoke Russian, and they loved it—though even they admitted that besides the occasional language slip, it was hard to tell the band was from Russia. That shouldn't really be a flaw, actually, but I guess I was expecting it. Anyway, they kindly warned me it was like a Russian Tom Waits (which is a total Frankenstein creation), but I wasn't listening. You can't blame me... cheers to you all, my friends.👋

Not sure if I'm actually down to try it. 😁

Honestly, my sinuses are hitting me so hard right now I might just have to go for it. 😁

If trashing this band is your big way of feeling different from the mindless crowd, honestly, you’re well on your way to feeling very, very "special."😉

👋

Nah. I'm way too old for those games. It doesn't bother me one bit when someone hates what I like—looks like that's your problem. I just didn't care for it, so I said so without attacking anyone. I have the right to my opinion, just like you have the right to be obsessed. Even if that whole Frankenstein definition of yours meant something halfway stupid...
banderas said:Dana Anderson4, you aren't really an expert here—you thought Berry was great and these guys were bad.😁

That show was a mess, just a bunch of lunatics.🙏

They didn't play badly, and I’m not saying the concert sucked—clearly it didn't since so many people loved it. For me, it just felt off because they're basically a carbon copy of Tom Waits. Just a clone. I've never really cared about technical skill; if I did, I'd be listening to Yngwee Malmsteen or whatever his name is. That's a whole other thing. And Berry is something else entirely—a rock n' roll legend in his later years playing his own stuff that everyone knows by heart. You can't even compare them using those metrics.

A buddy asked me: "Why would you go see Bulat Okudžav?" I told him, well, why not? If I'm going to see someone from Russia, I don't want to hear about American tariffs... just kidding, obviously, but that's how I look at it.

And as for Banderas being the authority on ratings, you should've seen that coming. Neither of us is an authority. Not Glavan, not Dragaš, not Jozo from Špišić Bukovica, nor any of those guys like Raja, Gaj, or Vlaj... everyone builds their own standards. This isn't my personal playground, and honestly, if people enjoyed it, then good for them.😁
Maybe I'm the only one who actually hated the show. Honestly, it was just kind of a letdown. It didn't feel like some gritty American Tom Waits vibe; it felt more like a group of guys just trying way too hard to *be* Tom Waits. There wasn't anything unique about their style—they just took his songs and gave them a slight twist. I was looking for a real, soulful blend of that raw Americana grit and something uniquely their own, but they were basically just cabaret impersonators. They’d be fine as background music at some imaginary lounge, but nothing more.

It's like saying, "Hey, here's a tribute to The Doors, or someone playing Leonard Cohen covers"...

And the guitarist? You could tell he just wanted to be in a hard rock band. He felt totally out of place, like he wandered in from a completely different movie...

Look, I know this might shock some of you, but this was easily the most underwhelming concert I've been to all year. And believe me, I'm not usually one to complain.😢
banderas said:It’s just a quick boat ride from St. Petersburg down to Helsinki, and honestly, you can't tell which city has the heavier drinkers.😁

If you want to get how deep the drinking culture goes in Russia, check out this book:
Moscow - Petushki
Venedikt Jerofejev

Most of it happens on a train ride between those two spots, and they’re basically drinking the whole way. It’s a weird one—I tried flipping through it randomly, and it feels like someone is grabbing a drink on literally every single page.

Easily the most booze-soaked book ever written (I mean, P. Lowry’s stuff isn't exactly dry, but still...)
and btw, it's a total masterpiece.

See you at the bar.

Nah, it’s Russ (Russ's country borders Finland, if you look at my profile picture).😁
I’m sure they’re good, but calling The Beatles "the Russian Tom Waits" is just a total disaster. They really should have run that by a linguist first...😁

It’s like saying atheist rap is the Mexican Madonna... I’m not even talking about the genre, it just sounds that bad linguistically.😉

shadowgardener12 said:What a statement. 👍

It’s like saying, "I always ride my bike right in the middle of the street just because I want to spite those arrogant drivers, so I have to prove myself in the stupidest way possible."

But honestly, what else would you expect when you run into someone on a bike path? A fighter jet???

Actually, I’m talking about the arrogance people show at crosswalks. I rarely even use bike paths unless I'm in New York City, where they honk at me constantly even though there's barely any room for pedestrians! As for why I feel this way, I don't really have a rational reason—I just can't stand cyclists. There’s that scene in Natural Born Killers where they shoot that cyclist on the road, and then Woody Harrelson comments, "I couldn't resist." I loved that part. And then there’s that old anecdote about Joseph Goebbels at some reception back in the thirties, explaining to a guy something along the lines of, "We should eliminate all Jews," while laying out his reasoning. The guy just nods along the whole time, and at the end of the speech, he adds, "And cyclists too." When Goebbels asks, "Why cyclists?" the guy responds, "Why Jews?" Even though that story is really just about how pointless it is to argue for hating a specific group and works as a clever little joke, I find it interesting because I always add—of course, we shouldn't eliminate anyone—but targeting cyclists isn't a bad idea. Obviously, I'm joking and exaggerating, but some people on bikes can be seriously irritating. And since we're talking music, which is our actual topic, remember how Nico was the life of the party for the Stereolab singer? Matt, watch out.😁

Sean Lee7 said:There’s definitely something off about them, but usually, it's just pedestrians getting in the way. For me, it always boils down to one thing. I end up passing those walkers just a little bit faster and a little bit closer. 😁

Look, I’m always stuck on those paths because honestly, I can't stand that whole "cyclist ego" vibe. Especially when I'm just trying to take a peaceful stroll down Fifth Avenue, barely finding enough room to walk, and then some idiot on a bike starts honking at me. Seriously, screw those obnoxious machines. 🙂

I feel like this trend started ages ago, and the Pixies were just one of those bands that couldn't escape the infection.

Exactly. It’s been happening forever. I can think of hundreds of "comeback" tours in history—some are actually decent, while others are just total disasters, kind of like when the Sex Pistols tried it.
